This is book 2 in the trilogy and it starts where book 1 ends. I found this book kind of pointless. It’s slow going and nothing really happens until the last couple of chapters. Then we get another cliffhanger where the book just stops abruptly. I found this one a bit boring and I had to force myself to finish it. As with book 1 I did enjoy the flashback chapters and getting to know more about Gilly. Hollie got more annoying and I questioned so many of her actions, especially in her personal life. We do get the addition of a couple more suspects though.
I received a copy of the ebook via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review
You start reading and don't stop. When it comes to the end, it's not the end! So you desperately start reading the book The Fifth Girl. I'm trying to reach the end... Help
You have to read book 1 of the trilogy first for this to make any sense.
Picking up from the exact moment the first book dumped us in an anguish of suspense the investigation continues, with a surprise confession that seems too good to be true.
Gilly comes to the forefront in this segment and is very helpful to the police- at times it seems a little too helpful.
With plenty of peril and action this too ends on a cliff hanger, although it felt a little like the story was being deliberately spun out to fulfill the trilogy brief and could have been concluded in two books.
Part 2 of this fabulous trilogy and the action starts exactly where book 1 finished. DI Hollie Turner is still chasing the person who killed the nun from book 1. In this book, getting to know the team better who are working so hard with Hollie.
Again, its fast paced and story of past and present fits well together and quite interesting. Page Turner with massive twists
Another cliffhanger - can’t wait to read book 3
Thank you to Netgalley, Paul Teague and Storm Publising
Having read the first book in this series The Fallen Girls I was so pleased to get this the second as I wanted to continue the story and find out what happened next.
Another good book with a few twists and turns, my favourite parts are where it goes back in time as that gives clues as to why things were happening and possibly who.
The book leaves you on a cliffhanger but I also have the third book so intrigued to find out how it all.plays out in the end.
Not long into starting the book I realised that this was part of a series. This meant I was unable to understand how two of the main characters knew each other.
However, some gaps were filled in during the course of the story. I liked the way the author brought Gillys story of her time in a mother and baby home to life. The lead Detective Hollie was also an interesting character. I found I was becoming more and more invested in the story. However, boom it’s the end of the book and we are left on a major cliffhanger.
This book would be a solid 4 stars but I’m giving it a 3 due to the ending being up in the air!
Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to see an ARC
The next installment in this trilogy and it did not disappoint.
A great read, will we know find out who killed the nun?
4 stars
Thanks to net gallet and the publishers for this arc
Part 2 of this fabulous trilogy and the action starts exactly where book 1 finished. DI Hollie Turner and her team are still trying to solve the horrific murder of Sister Brennan. The back story in this novel centres on the story of young mum to be Gilly who was sent to the mother and baby unit where Sister Brennan tormented the young girls in her care.
This story becomes more personal to Hollie in this novel as the killer gets too close.
The book is fast paced with lots of action. I'm loving the series
I was delighted to be able to read part 2 in this trilogy. Thoroughly enjoyed the continuation of the stories of the girls and their lives and the investigation into the previously unsolved murder. Recommend you have parts 1,2 and 3 as just like the first one you'll be left with a cliffhanger! Thanks to the author, netgalley and publisher for an advance copy.
This is part 2 of a 3 part Series. It picks up where the first book ends but be prepared for another cliffhanger!
DI Hollie Turner is still the lead investigator for the murder of Sister Sophia Brennan who worked at a home for unwed teen mothers. As she begins to question a new suspect, our mystery grows deeper.
Again, this story jumps back and forth between the 1970s and present day with DI Turner. Although the story in the 70s is Gilly's. We met an adult Gilly, who is now a city councillor in Hull, in the first book during DI Hollie's investigation after Sister Brennan's murder. This gives us another perspective of the home for unwed mothers where Sister Brennan worked years before she was murdered.
As the case continues on, suspects begin to come to the front. While some are excluded, some cannot be tracked down easily. They were able to finally locate a few people who worked at the home for unwed teen mothers as well as a few girls that were there when Gilly and Mandy were. We have yet to discover who the mysterious fifth girl is but DI Turner is getting closer.
This book's pace was so much slower than The Fallen Girls. It was hard at times to push through but being part of a 3 book series, I had a feeling there would be one slow paced book. Thankfully, it started to pick up speed in the last 1/4 of the book... which also means you'll be scrambling to read the final book of the series, The Fifth Girl.
A brilliant fast pace thriller that I felt completely enthralled in. Brilliant story, brilliant characters and and tons of surprises. Loved it xx
Picking up right where book one left off, this book is nonstop action, suspense, and surprises. I really enjoy the chapters featuring the past. It adds depth to the characters and the mystery. And that ending! Left me running for book three.
Second book of a trilogy. I have enjoyed both books so far but you would have to read all three to get the full story. . Plenty of suspense to keep me guessing. Well rounded characters. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to review it.
This is book 2 in the Hollie Turner series and equally as good as the first. It's set in Hull and a great follow up to The Fallen Girls, which I would recommend reading first. The characters are developing nicely, as is the plot, and I am beginning to like Hollie. Some of her actions are a bit dubious but she now seems to be fitting in to her new team. Roll on book 3 in the trilogy until I find out what happens next for Hollie! Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.
Thank you to NetGalley and Storm Publishing for my advance copy of The Fallen Girls by Paul J Teague
The most important thing to note is this is not a book in itself, you also have to purchase the previous book and the following book.
I subscribe to Kindle Unlimited and these books come with that so it’s fine, but I do think details like this should be clear from the outset.
Now to the book Detective Hollie Turner has been investigating after a nun is found dead in horrific circumstances.
This all seems to link back to a mother and baby home in the 70’s but with no records available and no one talking the investigation is hard going. Add to Hollie is in a battle with her estranged husband over the children.
Can’t wait for the next instalment.
A great read.
As with Paul J. League's other books I was hooked immediately and didn't want to put it down until I had finished.
Hard to review this one, I did enjoy parts of it. It’s a trilogy which I didn’t know and this is book Two so I was a little confused but I want to read book Three so the author obviously got me there.
I really enjoyed when it was going back to the 1970’s and the stories of what the girls got up to. It was actually very sad what they had to go through.
Thank you for an advanced copy of this book
Her Last Cry is the 2nd book of this trilogy, the story picks up right where the previous book ended. While I dislike the character Hollie, I did get through this book quickly. The suspense of the plot is not mind blowing nor original but did keep me turning the pages past my bedtime. Many of the main characters actions make the plot come across as farfetched and ridiculous. The book ends on a cliffhanger and I may pick up the third in the trilogy if it comes across my desk but I certainly won't be searching for it.
Thanks to Netgalley and Storm Publishing for the eARC!
This book was just alright in my opinion , I would recommend it to others because the plot was pretty good I just didn't like way everything played out. I found myself slightly bored half way through wanted to DNF. i did like the characters though. i did enjoy Hollie.
2nd book of this trilogy, it should be read in order as this book starts right off where the first one ends. This book does end on a cliffhanger. It was a great read, uncovering even more secrets from the past. It was a fast and enjoyable read !
Thanks to Netgalley and Storm Publishing for access to this arc in exchange for my honest review.
