This was so adorably cute and lovely that I read it twice in one sitting!

Is this a unique concept? No, it isn’t. The concept of a main female lead with an unusual quirk attracting the instant love and attention of some ruthless male lead is quite common. It’s the execution through the characters, the art and the dialogue that made this a wonderful read.

Our story follows Melphiera Marchalrayd who has a bad reputation due to her love for eating monster meat. Melphiera is sent to a social event, however when a sudden monster attacks she garners the attention of the Blood-Mad Duke of Galbraith.

I absolutely enjoyed this story. So far it’s not complicated or information heavy. There are a range of characters introduced in the first volume aside from our main lead and none so far have any ill intent. There are a lot of comedic moments between characters. The story also does a good job in introducing the characters by giving just enough details while also keeping some unknowns between the main leads. There’s also the foundation building of the monster meat cuisine which was interesting and balanced out the romance.

The artwork is simply gorgeous and cute! The character designs are lovely and match their personalities as well as I love how the clothing style changes throughout. Melphiera had such beautiful dresses of varying styles. Additionally the volume has a good balance of scenic backgrounds versus mood/emotion backgrounds which complimented the flow of the dialogue. Also, shout out to the cute monster, Skatzbitt. You were adorable and I’d keep you instead of eating you.

Overall, I loved this volume and am looking forward to the next one, quite eagerly. I hope it’s just as interesting and the secrets and slight miscommunication is resolved.

I thought this manga was pretty cute. The two main leads are such weirdos but perfect for each over. Both really adorable and shy because they’ve been treated poorly by most in society. I’m curious to know more about her research and why she does it, how her mom started it. I would like to see more romance between the two main leads in future books in the series. More backstory on the ML would be nice too.

Thank you to netgalley, the publishers, and the author for the ARC I read.

Ok, I was so unsure going into this one. When it comes down to it, it CHARMED ME SO MUCH!!! I did not expect to find this so adorably charming. This comedy of manners has the second prince falling in love with a lowly noble. He's obsessed with killing monsters, and she is obsessed with cooking and eating them. THE CLIFFHANGER OF THIS ONE HAS ME IN A CHOKE HOLD THOUGH!!! I very much need volume 2 right away!!

First of all, I want to thank Netgalley for providing arc copy of this book.
Japanese manga is quite new book style for me but I really enjoy reading it. What should you do this defeated monster? Right- eat it’s unusual meat with all the pleasure.
It is funny, little bit romantic and easygoing story and I hope we will see what happens next.

I accidentally found this manga while browsing books and it sounded fun so I have decided to check it out. It gave cozy vibes and I'm always in the mood for a sweet fantasy romance.

And I was not wrong! Pass the Monster Meat, Milady is a story about a young noblewoman known for her passion for eating monster meat. She is sent to find a fiance at an event but gets attacked by a monster and saved by a duke who doesn't seem to mind her weird hobby the way others do.

The artstyle in this manga is very pretty, not very distinct from other shojo stories but cute enough to catch an eye. The MC is lovely and I love that she wore so many cute dresses in just one volume. The hero is handsome and very expressive, which makes him immediately likable. The characters, including a few of the side ones that we meet, have nice, pleasant to the eye, and distinct designs.

The premise is fun and made me think of titles such as Dungeon Meshi and Toriko. I'm always weak for mangas about food so this one immediately caught my attention. I'm very eager to see how it develops.

The characters are likable and I love how they connect over their interests. That's always a big plus for me when the main couple has something to talk about. It may feel a bit insta-lovey for some but it was fun and I enjoyed the dynamic between the main couple as well as the dynamics they had with the side characters.

All in all this is a very promising first volume and I can't wait to see how it's continued.

This was a very nice surprise read. I love love love the main characters and how they appreciate each others qualities that others find odd. I am also very interested in following where this mystery surrounding the mother and her experiments goes. Really nice 1st volume to set up this story.

I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.

It’s adorable! Meet a lively female protagonist, often misunderstood as the villainess due to her passion for cooking and savoring monster meat. Paired with a socially awkward male lead skilled in monster-slaying, he provides her with the ingredients she needs for her culinary adventures.

While I acknowledge its good, I’ve given it three stars as it leans towards a more juvenile tone that doesn’t quite resonate with my personal preferences. It seems tailored for a younger audience, making it not quite my cup of tea, but still a worthwhile read. In fact, I believe it would have made a fantastic Christmas gift for my 12-year-old younger sister.

A fantasy romance where the characters have unique reputations! A lady known for her delight in monster cuisine and a duke known for being mad-blooded.

Melphiera Marchalrayd has a unique interest for cuisine that involve the preparation of monsters—specifically, plants and magical beasts. If these creatures were to be consumed without proper preparation, it can cause sickness. However, Melphiera has acquired the knowledge and skill to transform the meat into extravagant and safe-to-eat dishes. Despite her knowledge and experience, society continues to hold a negative opinion of her dishes due to the bad reputation associated with monsters.

Moreover, she has debuted in society and is in the need for match. That changes when she meets the Duke! The Duke is genuine interested in Melphiera's thoughts on monster meat, which surprised her because she never received good responses from sharing about it. He even asked her to cook some for him to try and states he will hunt down anything she wants to cook. I think that is sweet of him.

Overall, this was a cute and fun read. I'm looking forward to more progress and what future dishes she has in mind to create!

A bit of a spoiler alert, but I very much enjoyed this manga, I thought it was a very sweet and unique premise. I am also a sucker for a manga that features food, even in this case it would be monster meat, but I always love how in detail mangas give when preparing and cooking the meat. Melphiera is also just super sweet and so very socially awkward to the point of it being endearing, it sucks that she gets ostracized for her love of food. I loved seeing her get so excited when she talked about food. The Duke of Galbraith was also so very sweet to her while being absolutely badass. Seeing them being so awkward together just pulls at my heartstrings. I can't wait to see how the story develops.

Overall, a sweet, fun, and fresh manga.

I'm not sure exactly what I was expecting when I went into this, but what I got was an adorable, funny, captivating little read that has me absolutely hooked. Our FL is so precious, and the ML had me at first slice. And if he didn't have me then, he certainly did when he decided he wanted to make sure our girl never feels like an outsider ever again. I do wish we could have gotten into the meal prep a bit instead of just talking about it so much, but that's just a small gripe. I'm so excited to read the rest of this series!

Pass the Monster Meat, Milady! Volume 1 by Chika Mizube is a fantasy romance about Melphiera who is an eligible noble on the marriage market who has an affinity for preparing and eating monster meat, a taboo in this world. Melphiera is determined to show the world how exquisite monster meat tastes if prepared properly, but due to her reputation, she is an outcast in society. That is, until she meets Duke Galbraith, who saves her from a monster attack, and is curious about trying her monster cuisine, and curious about learning more about Melphiera.

This graphic novel was really cute. I was drawn in by the beautiful artwork and my interest was sustained by how cute Duke Galbraith is who is a little bit of a tsundere but falls quite quickly for Melphiera. The graphic novel has some slight pacing issues, the first few chapters are all the meet-cute and after that it jumps ahead to a week but also a lot happens in that week that happens off page!

The manga itself was easy to follow and read. The language was accessible to modern day readers and while there are times where matters of decorum need to be addressed, the manga draws attention to these times and makes them humorous, so background knowledge of historically appropriate behavior is not required.

I will say that as a vegetarian, reading about eating meat made me a little squeemish, but the cute story kept me interested enough to overcome this uncomfortable feeling.

I will definitely be continuing the series and look forward to the next volume!

Thanks Netgalley and publisher for giving me this cute manga. FL is just so friggin adorable like the art of her close ups are so friggin pretty. Although I do wish they could create dishes with the monsters she hunts instead of flexing that she and ML got the meat they need to eat but that was it. I felt it was sorta half the story, still again it’s very cute ngl!

5 out of 5 stars

Beautiful story, art, plot, and characters all wrapped into one. The main female character especially is just so adorable and the little closet page showcasing her full outfit at the end was such a good way to show off her design! I cannot wait to get back into this world and would love to add this to my physical collection as soon as possible. I have definitely been in a historical/ fantasy romance kick lately and this is just perfect for that.

What a cute and funny story! The two main characters in this manga are known as "outcasts" by the rest of society, but they both have a common interest...MONSTERS! Melphiera Marchalrayd is a girl after my own heart; she loves meat, and monster meat at that. She is a true food connoisseur and often spends her time thinking of ways she can turn these monsters into a delicious dish. The "Blood-Mad Duke" of Galbraith loves to hunt monsters, so of course they are just the perfect match.

This manga is on the lighthearted side, but I did enjoy the fun story! I do feel like the romance element happened a little too fast and was kind of underdeveloped, but hopefully we get more depth into the character's relationship in the next volume.

*Thank you to Netgalley and Kodansha Comics for providing me with an eARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.*

I read this in 1 hour straight. I loved the regal but fantasy feel of the manga with an undertone of romantic suspense too, I am intrigued to see where this manga would go as I do wonder if the duke has another plan up his sleeve or if he genuinely likes the lady. Very well written and drawn.

tl;dr
A cute fantasy romance that's right at home for fans of mobile comics and beautiful art.

Thoughts
I love a good food manga, so I went in expecting the focus of the series to be cooking techniques, ingredients, and dishes. And while all of those are definitely here, the core of this story is the romance between Melphiera and Galbraith. The cuisine acts more as a backdrop while we see two people that society considers strange, bond over their shared enthusiasm. It's cute, and somewhat quickly-paced, with very little friction or drama (so far). The world building is fairly light, but it uses easy to recognize building blocks, so following along should be no problem. The designs have the same flavor (ha!) as a lot of modern "I got reincarnated as a villainess" type stories popular in manga and mobile comics, and the whole thing is very very pretty to look at. If you're looking for manga the focuses mainly on the food, there are probably other options you'd want to try first. But if you want that as a side to a big helping of cute romance, dig in!

Pass the Monster Meat, Milay!
-volume 1: released
-#2: est. Release Feb. 13
- looks like up to volume 5 has an estimated release date (Aug 2024)

So I am just going to start off by saying when I requested to read this I was on the fence. The description seemed interesting and I was curious, but glad I did. As I’m writing this, I think out of my recent new reads it would be ranked one of the higher ones on the list. The beginning did feel like it just jumped right into it, but then it came back to set up the story for us. Honestly, I fell in love with it from the story to their character designs. We have a fun, strong, and unique FL and a ML who accepts and is interested in her hobby. Both are seen as outcasts in their society but after one quick interaction it changed the way they see each other a bit.
If I had to point out something that I'm not a huge fan of… it would probably be the names since they are quite a bit different than what we usually see and are a bit of a mouth full (although really not an issue).

We see so.many different expressions from Galbraith 💕

Melphiera likes to eat monster meat and will help with the processing of it, which resulted in her getting a strangle nickname. Due to this she has been more interested in her hobby than romantic relationships. Although her father loves her a bunch and doesn't mind who she marries, her step mother gives her to the end of the year to find a fiance. Melphiera attends a social gathering not knowing that she was going to be meeting Galbraith (the Blood Mad Duke). This surprising encounter intrigued Galbraith and he sent a letter to her father.

Will definitely be picking up this series as it releases!

The first thing I'm going to say about this manga is that I don't recommend it to vegetarians or vegans. I'm not one, but there were parts that seemed a little strong to me, because of the way they talk about meat.

I found this story very funny, easy to read and I clearly want to know how it continues. We meet two characters who are little understood, both for different reasons and for reasons of destiny they meet and they "click." I really liked this because it is not love at first sight but rather I believe that a very nice friendship will be forged that will later develop further.

I'll be looking forward to the sequel!

Thank you Kodansha Comics for the ARC I read on NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Sweet little story about accepting who you are and what you love. Not really for vegetarian/vegan/animal-loving people, because some parts of eating the animals (well monsters) are described in some detail. Bit ignoring that it's sweet and the artstyle is cute.
