I feel like someone who is not using social media that much might find all the information found in this book useful or maybe I had higher expectations than I should have had from the book.
I found this book to be a competent guide for people who are thinking of living as a nomad.
It is well organized by different topics and situations that people may find themselves in, and gives valuable information on what things to prepare for.
To be transparent, I don't think there was enough reflection on what this lifestyle may or may not mean to people of color who are traveling to some of these cities in the hopes of living there permanently or temporarily.
In addition to local customs, there needs to be more information on understanding local laws.
After reading it I felt better prepared and more informed on what steps I need to take and the information I need to investigate to transition to this lifestyle.
I struggled to get into this a little. I like the underlying theories and ideas, but it isn't something that I found could be too applicable to my life.
A practical manual for anyone considering ditching their worldly possessions and creature comforts to pursue the dream of traveling the globe and working as a digital nomad. The lifestyle isn't always the glamorous, highly edited reels you see on your social media every day, but it can prove to be a deeply profound experience that otherwise would've felt out of reach.
Working as a Digital Nomad since 2017, the author paints a pragmatic picture of both realities.
The author strikes a great balance between inspiring you to believe you can pursue digital nomadism (positioning herself as your friend who has already done it), and giving you straight talk about the challenges one can encounter in such a life.
The book is well structured, sharing a variety of options open to you, alongside practical considerations. The author offers useful exercises to try and questions to ask yourself to help you choose your path.
Even if you are not going to go down this road yourself, this book will help you see why and how others do it.
My thanks to the publisher and Net Galley for the chance to read this book in exchange for my feedback.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for an advance copy in return for an honest review.
This is a really interesting read for anyone considering the digital nomad lifestyle. It's full of practical and useful tips. It doesn't mythologise the digital nomad lifestyle or talk down to the reader but rather sets out all the things to consider, including whether this lifestyle might be right for you, and how long for.
Definitely worth a read before making the leap!
With 35 million (!) digital nomads who are living, working and exploring to the world it is apparent that you don't need to sacrifice your career to travel the world.
How to Be a Digital Nomad sets out strategies, and shares tips and advise on how to build build a successful career without having to be in a traditional office 9 to 5.
Ihrig has created a fab handbook where she freely shares her own as well as other travellers' experience of a nomad lifestyle.
The triangle of freedom: achieve freedom with regards to location, time and finances.
Even if you're not planning on becoming a digital nomad, the book includes many great pointers on how to get the most out of any working life - office based or nomadic. It challenges the 'normal' we are used to, although what is 'normal' has definitely changed following COVID.
‘No one regrets travelling’
Ihring also include practical check lists, e.g. back up your work, pack a vomit bag, don't impulse buy things, always carry US Dollars, etc. etc.
I really enjoyed the practical tips and step by step guide to actually becoming a digital nomad. I was expecting this to be more like a memoir, but this was far more like a handbook. Really enjoyable. Thank you to NetGalley, the publishers and the author for an advanced copy.
First I would like to thank to NetGalley, the publisher and author for offering me an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I thought it was a good book, easy to read with very interesting facts and advice if you ever want to take this road of being a digital nomad.
As nice as it sounds and exciting to be in a different country and still working, after reading the book I reached the point where I can see that digital nomadism requires a lot of planning and just to be happy to get out of your comfort zone at any moment.
Some of the advice in the book I feel can be applied to normal life as well so overall I enjoyed the book.
With a mix of practical tips, historical examples, and personal anecdotes, Ihrig provides a balanced guide into digital nomadism and travelling.
What an incredible book. Really thorough and a pleasure to read. Excellently thought through from the context to the structure, how the chapters are laid out etc. A mix of advice and stories from their or others experience.
I'm intrigued by digital nomadism and this book has ignited something, I'm just not sure what... Yet!
Thank you Netgalley and the publishers, this was an excellent read.
So there isn't much here at all about actually finding work but this book is a good place to start for someone who is considering becoming a digital nomad. It's organized logically into sections explaining the kinds of things you need to consider and decide on before starting, with advice on everything from accomodations to travel to long-term goals.
There's a lot to think about here, and it's definitely made me more hopeful that maybe this is something I could do.
Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this
How to Be a Digital Nomad : Build a Successful Career While Travelling the World. Many people have a dream of making a living while travelling the world so this short book is the perfect introduction to how it might be possible. It is limited as everyone's circumstances are different, but this is a good starting point. Other peoples' experiences are included as well as the authors', and although I would guess it is more for the US market it does provide a lot of information and questions that you will need to consider before jumping in. A good starting point.
I've been a nomad for most of the XXI century (IT consultant) and was curious to read this book to learn something new.
It was interesting and there's plenty information as it's not easy to work as a travelling freelance
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this ARC, all opinions are mine
While this read is shorter and quicker than expected, it’s a good read and contains precise information without letting paragraphs fold into waffle. It can’t answer some exact questions, like how much money you’ll need, because everyone’s circumstances differ, what you start with and where you’re going, but the various options to answer this question are very helpful. If you want a practical guide, then this is the book. You can expand upon each area suggested as you have your own experiences and information to hand. I would perhaps have enjoyed some more suggestion on how to make money to live while travelling, but I guess this book provides the starting positions. I do like the way the writer includes not just their own thoughts, but expands on the experiences of others. It does feel a little USA centric, so others will need to adjust for this. Overall, this is very useful and I hope to be able to expand on the many suggestions for my own purposes and to use the book as a springboard to my own reality. This book have saved me a lot of the initial thinking.
I thought that this would be an interesting book given the premise of how to be a digital nomad and it certainly didn't disappoint. There is certainly a lot of aspects to consider if you wish to embark on this sort of career adventure and Ihrig handles it with care. I think what also added to the book is not only does she talk about her experiences, she also weaves in experiences of other seasoned digital nomads.
Really informative and a great resource for the new norm that more and more people will be switching to in the future
How to be a Digital Nomad is an interesting read with a lot to think about and useful tips. I enjoyed it. Thank. you for the advanced copy
Genuinely useful and wide ranging book covering the hows (and whys in some cases) of being a digital nomad. Found it did not cover the downsides enough / needed a few examples of those that struggled, but does have some gems of advice. Recommended
Would recommend to anyone interested in becoming a digital nomad
Thank you to Kayla Ihrig, NetGalley and the publisher for the arc of this book.
