I love this series. Eve Dallas is an ass-kicking main character. The rest of the characters are wonderful as well. This story was fascinating. I enjoy how J D Robb (aka Nora Roberts) writes these characters and storylines in this series. Susan Ericksen does a wonderful job as the narrator. She gives life to all the characters from Eve's grit to Roake's Irish lit. You can always tell who is talking.
Thanks to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for a copy of this excellent book for review. LT Dallas is back at it, solving murders and taking down the baddie in this newest installment of the In Death series from JD Robb. I have read many of these novels, and many through audiobook, so it was like listening to a story from an old friend. I loved it! Susan Ericksen does an excellent job with the narration, and I appreciate that the pacing, as well as expressiveness, kept me engaged.
What is a struggle for Eve Dallas and team with this case is that the victim seems to be random, thus the title Random in Death. However, with a shoestrings length of evidence and a passion for the victim, Eve puts her everything into taking what she has and solving this case. I loved this one. The familiar characters. The familiar voice. It was a great way to spend some of the snow days we've had, and the ending is as satisfying as the other cases in the In Death series. If you love, Eve Dallas, JD Robb, Susan Ericksen, and the In Death Audiobooks as much as I do, I suggest you run to pick this one up and dive right in! The readings fine!
Random In Death is the 58th novel in J.D. Robb's "Eve Dallas" series.
I just couldn't stop listening!
The author's fast paced story-telling always has me addicted from beginning to end.
This novel has Lt. Eve Dallas and her team rushing to find a killer that picks teenage victims randomly.
I love being in Eve and Roark's world and revisiting all of the characters I have come to love.
Susan Ericksen's narration is always superb!
Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for an arc of this audiobook in exchange for my honest review.
Haven’t read one of these for a while…not sure why?
Lt. Eve Dallas is on the case, and boy does she have her hands full!
She’s called to the scene of a death, where a young girl has died. Initially it was thought to be a wasp sting that caused it, but upon looking a bit closer, they realize, that was not the case.
As more girls are dying , Lt. Dallas needs to figure out who is doing this…and why?? Before another body is found!!
Crazy as I wonder how she comes up with these ideas! Even crazier to think that something like this could really happen…
Thanks to #NetGalley and #MacmillanAudio for an ARC of the audiobook which released on 1/23/24.
#RandomInDeath by #JDRobb and beautifully narrated by #SusanEricksen

As always, thanks for reading with me!! 📚📖⭐️
I haven't read an 'In Death' novel in years. This audio was so good. I could jump back into Dallas' life and figure out things I had missed and didn't feel lost on the personal side of her life.
The storyline... had me in tears!!! The narrator did a great job at portraying the emotions of the teenage girls, the rockstar, their parents, and all who were involved in the deaths.
Listening to this made me miss Dallas & Roark and all the characters and I plan on jumping back into the series... maybe start at book 1.
There is something to be said for J.D. Robb / Nora Roberts having written over 50 In Death novels that they can still catch your attention and don't feel repetitive.
As always this author delivers. The unique lingo used is a bit to get used to but the danger and intensity of the storyline is well paced and well written. This was a devious and vicious killer and the twists and turns were a surprise all the way to the end. I do find it a bit hard to fathom a teenager could be this vicious but it does tie up in the end.
Another In Death indulgence.
Eve and her crew are racing to identify a killer whose victims seem very random. Her team really jump in working all leads and angles before another teenage girl becomes the next victim. Anytime Eve interacts with the Mira's it’s special, and this time we get more Rourke time, which is extra special. Peabody also entertains with the ongoing house project that has been woven into the storyline of several books.
I was a little late to the In Death series, so I was able listened my way through a majority of the series without the wait. These are narrated by Susan Ericksen, and she does a fantastic job in bringing this series to life. JD Robb (NR) is an absolute writing machine and enjoy most everything I've read. With over 50 crime books in this series, there are still new twists and turns for Lt Eve Dallas and her team to solve.
Eve’s support has grown over the series with Peabody and techies McNabb, and Feeney, Her friendships with Nadine, Mavis, Leonardo and sweet Bella. Morris, Mira’s psychology profiling and Rio gathering warrants to put killers away. Her guys antics in the bullpen and banter are always a treat. I especially enjoyed the interaction between Roarke and Summerset in their care and concern for Eve, and their cat. There are so many layers and levels of character development at the core that keeps this series going.
Thank you to JD Robb, #netgalley and #macmillanaudio for this audiobook ARC. Publication date is currently set for January 23, 2024. All opinions expressed in this review are own. #randomindeath #jdrobb
Sadly I did not find the story interesting enough to see it through. I made it 40% and decided to put it down.
I did not realize going into it this was deep into a long series, but I do not find that was a problem. It was written as if it was a stand alone novel and don't feel I was missing anything from not reading th prior books.
The bigger issue I had was it is advertised as a futuristic crime novel, this is what intrigued me to this story. Unfortunately. I did not find that it pulled this off well. It references years that are in the future and creates new slang terms But there is nothing that truely gives me futuristic atmosphere to this story it could just as easily be set in the present. Without the futuristic aspect the rest of the story was not enough to hold my interest.
Thank you to NetGalley and MacMillan Audio for an advanced audiobook for review.
Random in Death is the 58th book in the In Death series and was an engrossing tale I couldn't put down.
Death, suspense, mystery and action are what we can expect in this series and this book was no exception.
The story was fast-paced and action packed and I loved seeing how Eve's mind worked to solve the crime. Along with her partner Peabody, her husband Roarke and her fellow cops at the precinct, it was a race against time to catch this killer before he strikes again.
In the midst of all this I love Roarke's continued support of Eve and I love how the author continues to blend their life and relationship in the story.
If you've been following the series from the start you will love the appearance of old friends and catching up with them.
This was a fantastic read and I would definitely recommend it to lovers of crime/mystery story.
🎧 I listened to the audiobook version of this novel which was narrated by Susan Erickson. She did a fantastic job with the naration, giving each character their own distinct voice and adding the right emotion where needed. Her voice was clear and understandable and it was indeed a pleasure listening to her narrate this novel.
Justice for Jenna. That is what Lieutenant Eve Dallas and her loving and yummy husband Roarke want. The teen was at a concert and received a deadly injection. Eve is determined to find Jenna's killer, especially once it is discovered what was in the concoction that killed Jenna. Other victims just might be in danger, so Eve is in a race against time.
Susan Erickson narrated this wonderful novel. I am thinking that she just be among my top favorites of narrators. I love how she manages the voices of all of the characters, especially when humor is threaded through the pages of this book.
The In Death series is top of the line, and it would be to anyone's advantage to read or listen to the books in order. Never fear, most libraries have this series, as will as Audible and multiple other formats. Put this book, Abandon in Death, and the entire series in your TBR. I promise that you will not be disappointed.
Many thanks to St. Martin's Press and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
Terrific! Such praise won't be surprising to any long-time fans of J.D. Robb or her alter-ego, Nora Roberts, but it is merited, nonetheless. I have not read all fifty-eight (?) J.D. Robb titles (though I know and envy several people who have), so I'm qualified to say you can jump in here without feeling lost. (Some familiarity with the major characters would probably help, but you catch on quickly to the fact that Lieutenant Eve Dallas is a top-notch police officer working in the late 21st century, her husband, Roarke, is rich, devoted, and fabulous, and she has a great group of friends.) Random in Death is the story of a villain wreaking havoc throughout New York City with his seemingly random and cruel killings of young women. Dallas has to catch him before more families are destroyed. As always, the details of both the crime and the detective work are precise and captivating, the rich array of secondary characters adds depth and a fuller sense of immersion, and the relationship between Dallas and Roarke is why we keep coming back for more, Life is bleak, crime is ubiquitous, but J.D. Robb continues to provide hope for a vibrant tomorrow.
My favorite series both in audio and in print. Narrator is so consistent voicing each character that each is easily identifiable. The story her moved at a good pace and the evidence gathering was excellent. Looking forward to the 59th book, which can’t come too soon.
Eve Dallas is back at it again. After a teenager is pricked with a needle inside a club, she stumbles outside and dies in the arms of lead guitarist - and Nadine First's boyfriend - Jake. The jab was filled with a particularly nasty cocktail, meant to kill within minutes. The longer Eve and Peabody look at the crime, it appears that Jenna, the victim, was just a random choice made by the killer. Which means anyone could be his next victim...
I have read a lot of the In Death series...like 53 of the 58. There is a formula, but it works. Obviously. Someone is murdered, in comes Eve and Peabody, usually with Roarke and McNabb. Feeney gets involved, Nadine annoys about interviews, Mira pops in for a consult. Always the same, but always entertaining. It's nice to be able to slip back in their world.
I'll be waiting for the next!
Someone is killing women and it appears to be random. It starts with a teen at a club where Jake and his band Avenue A are playing and the teen, Jenna, steps outside and dies in Jake's arms. It is learned that she has died of an overdose of chemicals delivered through a needle dipped in a nasty virus so even if she had gotten attention quickly she was going to die. Soon another drops and then another is attacked in a theater but survives. The hunt is on for the killer. I binged this in audio and I have to tell you I love this narrator! She gets the "voice" of Eve so perfect. Her sarcasm, impatience, and dry wit. Her bouncy Peabody is spot on! I can picture them both and her Roarke makes me swoon. It is hard to believe we are up to #58 and please do not stop this series. More, more, MORE!
Random in Death is a entertaining action packed fast paced easy to follow storyline with a well rounded interesting cast of recurring characters and a hook that will draw you in as Dallas and Peabody unravel the clues and get justice for the victims I look forward to each new book in this series even though it's a murder mystery each book is unique and cleverly written with just a little twist or turn to make it better than the last instalment.
I received a advance reader's copy of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review
A twisted tale involving the murders and attempted murders of teen girls through lethal injections concocted by a twisted individual. Eve Dallas and her team will bring this atrocity to an end using determination that they are well known for.
Another installment in the long-running "in death" series from J.D. Robb. While this follows the same type of pattern as the books previous, there is a certain comfort in the formula to the storyline. There are a host of characters that intertwine and bounce ideas off of each other, which adds a nice layer. The writing is smooth and pulls you along nicely. The subject matter here was interesting, albeit dark (as usual) but I enjoyed the science/tech aspects here. I will always go back to this series, and recommend jumping in anywhere as you'll get caught up very quickly! I did listen to this on audio, and had to speed up the narration as it was a little slow paced for my ears. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to provide my honest review.
A murder mystery with some twists.
Having read and listened to all 58 books in the series, I can honestly say the author keeps coming up with a new angle for the characters to investigate and puzzle out.
Eve and Roarke are fascinating and live life big. Their love for each other is evident throughout the book.
The book can be read alone but one of the intriguing parts is all the players as they age and grow into each others lives, it is like having multiple stories in one book.
The narrator does an excellent job of reading the story and gives distinctive voices to each character.
I enjoyed the mystery aspect of this book but that’s really it. I haven’t read any other books in this series and I don’t feel like that was necessary. I simply didn’t like any of the characters in this book.
Thank you so much Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for the opportunity to listen to this audiobook.
Wow. Wow. Wow. I enjoyed this book so much. TBH I only read the first book in this series, so I was leary to read this release in the series. IT WAS AMAZING! every character was amazing and not annoyingly repetitive. The mystery and solving it was the chefs kiss. I cannot wait to recommend this to my patrons.
