I was so excited for this book because of all the hype. I wanted to love it but unfortunately it wasn’t for me. I felt like the storyline was all over the place-there was TOO MUCH background that it was just overkill. The audio did not hold my attention and made it hard for me to enjoy.

Absolutely brilliant! I enjoyed every moment of this novel. It takes real talent to include the reader. This one has tons of twists and turns and perspectives written in a different way that really brings this together.

As I loved his first book and was shocked that I did not love his sophomore piece, I was Oh, So, eager to read this new, third book. From book one to book three is a gap of unenjoyable readiing which craters out in The Fury. I don't enjoy a narrator who is irritating in character and narration, and Alex told us how to feel about each character and gave us no 'imagination' of our own. What is a mystery and a suspense when you are told how to feel about what you hear?

“A masterfully paced thriller about a reclusive ex-movie star and her famous friends whose spontaneous trip to a private Greek island is upended by a murder.”

Nothing is as it seems. Expect an unreliable narrator and lots of twists! The story is told by Elliot, a friend of the ex-movie star. The type of storytelling was a little too slow for me and I found myself bored until 70%. After this, I was enthralled and couldn’t stop listening. The book also mentions Nova Scotia, where I live, so that was cool!

I was obsessed with The Silent Patient, but this one just wasn’t for me.

Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for this Advance Reader Copy. All opinions are my own.

⭐️⭐️⭐️✨
3.5/5 STARS

Genre: Thriller/Mystery

I listened to this on audio and enjoyed the narrator, his voice was perfect for the vibe of the book!
This was not my favorite book by this author. I think if not for the audiobook, it would have taken me a while to finish it. It is a very slow paced thriller. If you read The Silent Patient, it is the same writing style, an unreliable narrator with a twist at the end (but not as good). For me, the plot was a little underwhelming. The premise sounds great… a murder while vacationing on a Greek island. It did pick up towards the middle and I of course liked the twist just fell a little short for me.
I recommend listening to it!

Thank you to Macmillan Audio/Celadon Books Audio for the audiobook!

"The Fury" by Alex Michaelidis, narrated by the incredibly talented Alex Jennings, is an audiobook that's like a decadent Greek holiday with a side of murder mystery. Imagine Agatha Christie decided to throw a party on a private Greek island, and you're halfway there. Jennings, with his extensive theatrical background, brings the characters to life with such finesse that you'll feel like you're sunbathing on the beach, overhearing gossip from the next umbrella over.

The story centers around Lana Farrar, a reclusive ex-movie star, and her glamorous Easter getaway with friends on a private Greek island. Sounds like a dream, right? Well, hold onto your sunhats, because this dream vacation turns into a nightmare when one of the guests ends up dead. The narrative, delivered masterfully by Jennings, is a delightful mix of celebrity glitz, suspenseful twists, and a dash of old-school whodunit charm.

The way Michaelidis weaves this tale is nothing short of brilliant. It's a gripping story that plays out like a high-stakes game of Clue under the Mediterranean sun. The narrator, Elliot Chase, promises a story unlike any you've heard, and boy, does he deliver! Jennings' portrayal of Elliot is so captivating, you'll hang on to his every word as he guides you through a labyrinth of secrets, betrayals, and old grudges.

What sets "The Fury" apart is its ability to be both a gripping thriller and a fascinating character study. The characters are as vivid as the picturesque Greek setting, each with their own complexities and motives. And just when you think you've got it all figured out, Michaelidis throws in a twist that will have you gasping in surprise.

In conclusion, "The Fury" is an audiobook that's as thrilling as it is entertaining. It's perfect for fans of suspenseful narratives and character-driven stories. Alex Jennings' narration is the cherry on top, making this an audiobook you won't want to pause. So grab your headphones, pour yourself a glass of ouzo, and prepare for a journey to a sun-drenched island where secrets run as deep as the blue Aegean Sea.

I loved The Silent Patient, it’s one of the books that got me back into reading. The Maidens was a letdown after that, and I would say this book falls somewhere in between.

This was a slooooow burn. I was intrigued by a murder on a desolate island, very And Then There Were None-esque. Unfortunately we kept waiting for something to happen. The narrator insisted that we needed to know all of this information to understand what happened.

The ending had a lot of twists, and I was very surprised by it. It didn’t blow my mind but it was an entertaining end to what otherwise was tooo slow of a book.

I both read and listened to the audiobook, I thought the narrator was a good choice for this character.

Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.

My last read of 2023 and a much hyped one by the author of The Silent Patient.

The Fury is the story of a group of friends, including a famous actress and our narrator the writer, on an island when one is murdered.

This was not the book for me. It started slow so I pushed through thinking I’d like the second part better, which it did pick up and hold more twists.

I found the narrator intolerable, which was somewhat the point, but it can make for a difficult read when you don’t connect with the characters or the story.

Thankfully the audio kept me engaged and I enjoyed the narrator. If I hadn’t had the audio, I wouldn’t have finished the book, but I was able to listen to this one better than reading it.

Thank you to #netgalley and the publisher for making advance copies available.

This audiobook flew by, but I really wish that hadn’t been the case. I wanted to know more and hear more, but it all went by so quickly. Loved the format of a “play” with an omniscient narrator! All in all, I really liked this and wanted more.

Ugh, what can I say. I hated the narrator of this book. I was bored listening to him.

As for the story. I have to say this is my least favorite book from Alex Michaelides. The plot and placing were all over the place and I felt the story was extremely slow.

Character is destiny. ~ Heraclitus

Take a trip to a Greek isle. Get away from the rainy, cold days in London. What could go wrong? Everything if there is a murderer in your midst. Or, is there?

I absolutely loved this one on audio. The narration has a conversational tone, as if you and he are sitting in a pub together as he relates his tale. With Michaelides you can expect Greek myth undertones like Agamemnon and the Furies. There were classic quotes from Agatha Christie, Ernest Hemingway, Edward Albee, and (one of my faves) Tennessee Williams. Watch for crossover with the prior two novels and even a line about Whittington (a book I read with my grandson a couple of months ago). The twists may give you whiplash. Some have labelled this as a slow read. I found it to be riveting. Zipped through it as quickly as I could.

A big thank you to Macmillan Audio and Celadon Books for both an audio and digital ARCS in exchange for an honest review. Release date is January 16, 2024.

Alex Michaelides is back with The Fury, a novel full of surprises.

"A reclusive former actress invites some friends to her private Greek island to escape the English weather. A storm blows in and a person is found murdered. Now the group must discover who the killer is."

The story is narrated by Elliot, a quintessential unreliable narrator. Elliot will tell you part of the story - or what you think is the story - and then tell you that's what he wanted to happen but something else did. You never know what the real story is.
There are plenty of unlikable characters here. It's hard to find someone to pull for.

The narrator, Alex Jennings, is perfect for this character. I believed I was listening to Elliot the whole time.

There are lots of surprises and twists. The ending was unexpected. I liked seeing Theo pop up again.

Fans of his first two books should enjoy this one

Alex Michaelides, you have managed to pull the wool over my eyes again! The Silent Patient was one of my first reads of 2023 so it seems fitting that this one be my last. I swear, He weaves such a lovely story and then pulls twists out of the blue that, even though I predict 100 different ways it could end, it's never one of them! Really, really liked this book. Thanks for the ARC Net Galley and Celadon Books. Solid 4.5 stars

This was an incredibly bizarre book, but that is certainly not to say that it was a bad book. I enjoyed it thoroughly for all of its bizarreness. I need to sit at think about it for a while after I finished it before I could put my thoughts into a review.

We have an admittedly unreliable narrator telling us the tale of a group of friends on a remote Greek island for a weekend. He tells of his past with all of the members of the group and the tale of the murder that takes place before the weekend is over.

A good portion of this book is devoted to the narrators past history and during these portions I frequently found myself a bit bored and wondering how any of it tied into the murder mystery on a remote Greek island that I had been promised. It did ultimately tie in and I was genuinely shocked by the ending of this book, but getting there felt a bit tedious.

Rating this book was incredibly difficult because I loved how floored I was by the ending, however I struggled to get through some of the slower portions of the book. Ultimately, I rated this book 3.5 stars (rounded to 4 for the 5 star rating system). I would still highly recommend this book because even though it has some slow sections the ending is absolutely worth it.

I listened to this audio ARC of this book and the narration is spectacularly done, so if you are an audiobook person, this is definitely one worth listening to on audio.

I was very excited to get an advanced copy of this audiobook because I loved the Silent Patient. The narrator was perfect, and I enjoyed the narrator’s interactions with the listener. I don’t think I would’ve enjoyed that aspect quite as much if I had been reading the book. The many twists and turns were unexpected. I enjoyed the story, the Greek mythology references and the psychological aspects of the story, much like the author’s other books.

I’ll admit that I was not a fan of The Silent Patient (don’t attack me 😅) and I was prepared to DNF when I started reading the first chapter.

I wasn’t a fan of how it was written by an omniscient third and it kind of annoyed me so I put it down. I had the audiobook though and I had a reading goal to meet so I gave it another chance.

I AM SO GLAD I DID!

With the way the story was written, the audiobook was key. It allowed me to really get immersed in the story and it was a good one!

Part 1, backstory. Part two things get good. Then part 3, 4, 5, AND THAT EPILOGUE?! Whew. The twists were twisting.

My advice is to definitely read this but listen to the audiobook if you can!

Alex Michaelides has done it again with The Fury! This slow burn pulls you into the life of the elite. The lifestyles of the rich and the famous can bring so many amazing opportunities. But when you're that famous it seems like everyone wants something from you. It muddies the waters. Do we really know the people closest to us? Alex weaves the tale so effortlessly that you are pulled in immediately and can't stop reading. I was lucky enough to receive an audiobook version of this novel and I'm so glad that I did. The narrator brought the story to life with perfection. 5 huge stars for this one!

Author Alex Michaelides is known for his wicked twists and turns. With a unique narrator perspective and voice, readers are brought right into the story.

Rich, famous and reclusive on her island, Lana composes a group of friends for an experience they'll never forget.

Similar to his other reads, but in a new locale, Michaelides does what he does best.

For fans of The Silent Patient, Alex Michaelides is back with a riveting story about love, lust, betrayal and the theatre. This intricate psychological thriller takes you down a very twisty road that will leave you shocked and in the dark until the end.

The story was a slow burn in the beginning but paid off in the end. The way the story tied together was a perfect blend of suspense and mystery. I also love the title and how the author wrote the story around it. Clever! A solid 4 stars, well written with plenty of suspense!

The narrator Alex Jennings, gave depth to this story. His narration of the main character was fitting brought life to Elliot. I did find his pace to be a bit fast but even on 1.3x speed, I was able to enjoy the story. Alex did a great job setting up and moving through the chapters. I highly recommend the audiobook of The Fury.

“That’s the tricky thing about honesty. It cuts both ways, that sword; which is why I am so wary of wielding it.”

“That’s where all creativity is born, I believe—in the desire to escape.”

3.5 stars! I enjoyed this one but I read every one of his books searching for the brilliance that was The Silent Patient and this one didn’t have that. The pacing was very slow to start and then switched to so fast paced it gave me whiplash.

The characters are, for the most part, unlikable and I never felt like I really got to know any of them therefor I was unable to really like or care for them. I didn’t even get a full sense of the beauty that I am certain this private Greek island has.

I did enjoy Elliot’s narration, though. It was quite a nice change to be read a story, in a sense, as apposed to watching it unfold. He keeps you guessing on his reliability throughout.

The narrator did a great job with the audio of his one, keeping the suspense up and the emotions high!

Thank you so much to Netgalley, Celadon Books, Macmillan Audio, and the author for the ARC and ALC in exchange for an honest review.
