I love these books. Andy Carpenter keeps me entertained. We get to know all his thoughts and some are quite humorous. What a team he has put together! I would definitely go to him if I had a situation that would call for that action. I would love to have Marcus for a friend. I can’t wait to see what Andy and friends get involved in next. I received this book from NetGalley, but my opinion is my own.

I absolutely love David Rosenfelt's Andy Carpenter series and his newest book was no exception. I love how snarky Andy's character always is and how far he and his team go to prove his client is innocent. I really wasn't sure how this one would all tie together and did not predict the twist at the end. There were a lot of players in this story but the author did a great job of making sure to keep everything straight. Marcus is also one of my favorite characters so I'm glad we got more from him in this one. And of course, the dogs are always some of the best characters! If you haven't read any books in this series, I definitely recommend them, especially as they don't need to be read in order. Dog Day Afternoon comes out July 2!!! Thank you @stmartinspress and @netgalley for my copy!

Mysteries!! I never read them and then when I do I’m the surprised pikachu face when I enjoy them. This one was cute, and of course there’s a dog on the cover so duh. I liked how everything unraveled. I was on my toes the whole time trying to figure out what was happening, and I liked Andy’s relationships with the people (and dogs) around him.

Dog Day Afternoon (Andy Carpenter Mystery #29) by David Rosenfelt
Publisher: St. Martin's Press, Minotaur Books
Genre: General Fiction (Adult), Mystery & Thrillers
Expected Publication Date: July 2, 2024

Dog Day Afternoon is the 29th book in the Andy Carpenter Mystery series by David Rosenfelt. Don’t let the 29 scare you away, you can easily jump into this series at any point and each book is a standalone mystery.

This quick read was so good! I love the characters and found myself laughing out loud throughout the book! I am a huge fan of sarcasm, mysteries and dogs! I loved seeing how everything comes together.

Andy Carpenter is a want-to-be-retired attorney, who can't help himself when faced with the right case! He is a great sleuth, loves dogs, and is so funny! I actually laughed out loud as some of the things he said! The crime solving was great and I loved how it all comes together!

This book was so much fun! I absolutely loved it! I definitely recommend reading this book!!! Sarcasm, quick wit, and dogs! I can't wait to start reading the other books in the series!

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Andy's next case comes to him via Marcus Clark. Marcus is a scary, competent investigator who has saved Andy's life too often to count. He is also a mentor for young men in need of a boost. Now he comes to Andy to ask him to defend one of his mentees Nick Williams who has been accused of mass murder when he walked into the office where he worked and shot and killed six people.

Nick claims to have been kidnapped the morning of the massacre and released at a rest stop three days later.

Andy and his team spring into action and soon discover some insurance fraud going on at the law firm where Nick worked as a gofer, but fraud doesn't mean he couldn't have murdered his co-workers. And those five murders aren't the only ones that happen while Andy and team are trying to find the answers.

Filled with Andy's snark and his co-workers' idiosyncrasies including Sam's desire to emulate Sam Spade rather than confine himself to his accounting business and computer hacking, the story has all the elements of books in the series.

This was another engaging story in a long-running series.

Thanks to Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Reluctant criminal defense attorney Andy Carpenter finds himself taking on yet another case. This time the evidence is overwhelming against Nick Williams who is accused of a mass shooting in the law office where he was employed as a courier, but Andy's loyal bodyguard Marcus, who has been mentoring Nick, assures Andy that Nick isn't guilty and asks Andy to represent him. Through the investigation Andy starts to realize there may have been shady things going on at the law firm where Nick worked.

I have always liked this series, the cast of characters, the inclusion of dogs, Andy's wit, but this one was a step above the normal for me. I found this mystery to be particularly interesting and I really wanted to know what was going on. I thoroughly enjoyed it and read it in one day. I looke forward to the next installment.

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's/Minotaur for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book.

Another Andy Carpenter story that had me chuckling all the way through it. I love his dry, deadpan humor, and the court scenes are my favorites. The trial in this one ended differently than his usual cases, but as usual, Andy wrapped up the mystery succinctly at the very end. I never try to figure out the who or why ahead of time - I read them strictly for the entertainment value, and they never disappoint. I don't know how Rosenfelt manages to come up with these ideas, enough for two books per year, but please keep it up!

Those of us who have read all or most of the Andy Carpenter series are very familiar with Marcus and the lack of communication between Andy and Marcus. While it’s been gradually thawing over the last few books, in this one, Marcus takes a much larger role. Turns out, he sponsors young men in trouble. And now, one of his young men is in trouble and needs a lawyer.
Despite this being the 29th in the series, this book remains as fresh as the first. I love the characters, the humor and the intelligence of the plots. Yes, Rosenfelt relies on a formula. There’s always a dog, Andy is always reluctant to take the case, it always comes down to Andy having to figure out the actual criminal(s) while simultaneously having to juggle the actual court case. But he also has the ability to come up with unique situations every time. This time, there’s been a mass murder at a law firm. Six people are dead, but two people survive. And they both finger another employee, the young man mentioned above.
The book would work fine as a stand-alone. I’ve read several of the books out of order with no issues.
My thanks to Netgalley and St. Martin’s Press for an advance copy of this book

Dog Day Afternoon
David Rosenfelt

4 stars

This is the 29th book in the Andy Carpenter series, and David Rosenfelt nailed it again. Dog Day Afternoon did not wrap up at all how I expected, but it was so much better! I am usually able to figure out the who/what of the mystery, but not this time. I was completely shocked with who the real killer turned out to be. Plus, I love the quirky characters such as Sam, Hilda and Marcus who make the book so much more fun.
An absolute nail biter that I had a very hard time putting down. This series is easily read as a stand alone, however it is part of a long series. I truly hope it goes on for another 29 books because Rosenfelt has proven himself as a masterful storyteller.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and Netgalley.

Another doggoned good Andy Carpenter case
When Marcus Clark asks reluctant lawyer Andy Carpenter to defend a young friend who is accused of invading the law office where he is employed and shooting six people to death, there is no way that Andy is going to turn down a request from Marcus, who is his employee, good buddy, and, by the way, savior of Andy’s life on several occasions. It also doesn’t hurt that the accused was in the process of adopting an injured dog from the dog rescue operation that Andy founded. Things do not look good for the defendant, though, since he was positively identified by a surviving employee of the firm based on a distinctive tattoo and tennis shoes, although the murderer was wearing a mask. Of course, as Andy looks into the case, things are not as straightforward as they might seem, nor are these the last murders that will occur.
The plot was interesting and sneaky, and Andy’s personality shone as always, but there were a few points that seemed a LITTLE unlikely to me. I also am not sure how I felt about the clever ending, which gave me a big smile and an equally big frown in the space of the last two pages.
But Andy Carpenter’s personality (and the dogs) is, I believe, the reason this series is so popular. Narrator Andy is up to his usual form, giving me my first chuckle in paragraph three. Despite Andy’s sassy humor, his team, which includes his wife Laurie, a former cop, is composed of people who care, and another hallmark feature of the series is the warmth and humanity of the characters. Other team members include Eddie Dowd, who, Andy says ,”is a calming influence on me, which is surprising when you consider that in his previous life he was a tight end for the New York Giants, ” ex-cop Corey Booker, and Marcus. Andy also gets up to his usual courtroom antics.
You can enjoy this book even if you have not read anything else in the series, but I highly recommend you begin with the first, Open and Shut, so you get the context and a proper introduction to the characters (and they ARE characters!). After that, you can enjoy them in any order.
I received an advance review copy of this book from NetGalley and Minotaur Books.

Andy Carpenter book # 29

This mystery has a lot of legal aspect to it and a bit of court shenanigans but mostly is my preferred: the subdued humour that slips from time to time to make me smile. This author knows how to talk to us and tells stories in the first person narrative. Yes Andy whispered everything; he is totally in my head.....

Although this novel is part of a series it stands well on its two feet and can be read as a standalone with no trouble.

Although retired Andy carpenter runs a dog rescue organization for years his calling is representing clients in court. His long-time friend Marcus Clark is his sidekick who keeps his personal life to himself. Marcus takes disadvantage young men under his wings. So when Marcus needs Andy’s help no doubt he has it. Marcus friend Rick William is the prime suspect in the murder of 6 of his colleagues at work and needs all the help he can get...Springs into action, his our debonair lawyer....and we are into a very engaging mystery.

This mystery is witty, well-paced and filled with snappy one liner and to top it all amazing characters. The court room scenes are at a minimum but give the needed punch with all the legal verbalism...

“Dog day Afternoon”, makes it at the top of my best read list so far this year.

Excellent read I enjoyed passing time with.

Dog Day Afternoon is book 29 in the Andy Carpenter Mystery series by David Rosenfelt. It works well as a standalone.

I am a huge fan of this series! the mysteries are always well thought out with interesting characters. The stories all have a new character who is accused of a crime they say they did not commit. While Andy has been trying to retire for quite some time, he manages to get caught up in these cases all the time.

With an astonishingly talented team to help him that includes his wife who was a police officer, an accountant who doubles as a computer hacker, and a man who can take down the biggest, meanest people sent to hurt Andy and stop his investigation, the cases are neatly unraveled, and the good guys win.

This would make a good television show. 5 stars!

Reading a new book by David Rosenfelt feels like a chance to visit with old friends and, of course, catch up with Tara and the pups. This is the 28th book in the Andy Carpenter series and it is a very good addition to the series.. The case was interesting. Everyone got involved and there is a good mystery to be solved. If you haven't read any books in the series you have a huge treat in store. Start at the beginning and get ready to be entertained.

How does Mr. Rosenfelt do this? Every Andy Carpenter mystery is just completely amazing. I'm riveted from page one and the series never gets old. Andy is just Andy, and he never disappoints, between his snarky and witty banter, and his intelligence to solve crimes to save his clients..The reader is always on the edge of their seat.

A horrific mass murder places a friend of the indestructible Marcus in jail. Marcus is Andys protector and member of his crew. The clock is ticking to solve this and prevent a great miscarriage of justice. The whole gang is working hard, along with his competent ex police officer wife Laurie.

Andy comes across some dangerous and scary players as he peels back layer after layer of what motivated these murders.

The story was well written and the plot fresh despite how many of these books I have read. An excellent visit with New Jerseys finest defense lawyer that I highly recommend.

Special thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of this book for my reading pleasure.

In Dog Day Afternoon, Marcus asks Andy to represent a young man he has been mentoring when he is accused of a mass shooting. The young man has no alibi, but Marcus believes he is innocent. The further Andy and his crew dig into the shooting, the more complicated the story becomes and Andy, too, becomes convinced of the young man’s innocence.
As always, the wit and sarcasm makes this a fun read and the mystery is intriguing. Tara, the greatest dog in the world, continues to be Andy’s muse.
Thanks to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for the ARC.

This is a Legal Mystery, and this is the 28th book in the Andy Carpenter series. I have read the other books in this series before picking up this book. I love this series. I love all the characters in this series, but Marcus has become one of my favorites. This book has a lot of Marcus, and I love that we get to see more of Marcus. I really love the mystery in this book, and there was so much that unfolded to figure out this mystery. I really loved reading this book. I received an ARC of this book. This review is my own honest opinion about the book like all my reviews are.

Dog Day Afternoon is David Rosenfelt’s newest mystery novel and it takes place in his hometown of Paterson at a local law office where six people are killed and a friend of Marcus’s works and is blamed for the murder. Andy and his gang of legal warriors are on the case because Marcus says Nick is innocent. I enjoy reading this series because I love the way David Rosenfelt writes this series, he makes murder comforting and familiar. I know what to expect and the characters are so well written and there is a lot of humour in the books. I love the way he plans the story and lets me escape into another world for awhile. I love how he talks to Tara on the dog walks and asks her opinion. Thank you David for another wonderful read and I look forward to your next book and thank you to Minotaur Books for an early e-book copy .I will read David Rosenfelt’s books anytime.🙋‍♀️🙏🇨🇦❤️👏📚

Andy’s new case involves a friend of Marcus, Nick. Someone has shot up a law office in Andy’s hometown, and Nick is accused of the deed. Nick has a bizarre excuse involving being kidnapped and held captive in some unknown location for several days while the mass murder was committed. When Andy takes the case, thing do not look too promising for Nick, but, with the investigation by Anddy’s team, they manage to ferret out several incidents and persons who may also be involved or responsible. Andy then has to go to court with Nick to convince the jury of his suspicions so Nick can be freed. Along the way, he naturally involves his dogs, especially Tara, against whom he bounces ideas and thoughts.

I enjoyed this book as much as I have the others. Naturally, the dog over in e would love more involvement by the dogs, but they at least have some place in the story. I liked the way the author managed to have the team search for and find clues and answers in such a seemingly complicated situation. Andy and his crew always come through while providing solid entertainment for the reader. I will keep on reading the series’ books as they never get old or stale for me. I received this from NetGalley to read and review.
