Ryan Garahan is one of the Duke of Wyndmere's Guards. The man in black is a protector of the duke, his extended family and close friends. He puts his life on the line. The rescue of the local squire's twin sons and their governess, Prudence Barstow, is becoming a regular job, not that he's complaining. Treated with cruelty by the squire and his wife, they refuse to acknowledge Prudence is really their niece. The more Garahan learns of their mistreatment, the more he realizes that he loves the lass and there is only one way to keep her safe, but there is more danger ahead.
These books are always fast paced and a little complicated with all the guard's, their connected relatives and the Duke and his family. Start with the first book in the series to learn more about them. Of course, there's always a great love story. Mild descriptive sex.

The Duke's Saber that brings the family together again with humorous situations and witty banter and their dictation to The Duke of Wyndmere and his family. C.H. Admirand has written written a romance that brims with remarkable emotions, characters that come off the pages and pull you into their emotional ride that keeps you involved until the very end, passion, those who are out to destroy the dukes family with slander, and with an enjoyable plot that leaves you eagerly anticipating the next in the series.

I received a free ARC from NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.

This is the seventh installment of the series The Duke's Guard. Ryan is very serious about his duties to the Duke of Wyndmere, and has dedicated his life to his duty. But a chance meeting with Prudence, in the most unconventional yet hilarious way, has his life taking another path. Prudence is a bit too tall for society standards, and to prevent her oddity from detracting suitors for her sisters, her mother sends her to be governess to her young twin cousins. Though she adores her cousins, she is not treated well by her aunt. Because of the treatment she receives by people who should love her, she has low self-esteem and just accepts the treatment she is given. But Ryan comes into her life and changes all that and shows her she deserves to be well-treated and loved, and she is turn changes his life. Ryan continues to rescue her from one situation or another, even a kidnapping, but more importantly, he helps her build her confidence in herself.
These two characters were absolutely wonderful and I really enjoyed seeing them together and watching them their relationship grow. The story was well-written and entertaining and I look forward to continuing the series.

The Governess and the Duke’s Guard

When Ryan rescues Prudence, he has no idea that she will steal his heart and change his life. Ryan is one of the duke’s guards, and he has vowed to protect the duke and his family. It turns out that he must protect Prudence, too. She is a governess, but she is related to her charges. The squire and his wife are unkind to her. Then, there is gossip that is spreading in the village. The lies are smearing Ryan’s and the reputation of several women in the village. Ryan and prudence must contend with malicious gossip and danger. Can Ryan discover the culprit and clear his name? Will he be able to fulfill his duty to the duke and protect Prudence at the same time? I enjoyed this story and would recommend it to those who like historical romance.

The seventh book in the Duke’s Guard, this is a new Author to me and after reading this story I want to read the rest of the series. Ryan Garahan and Prudence Barstow's story kept me turning pages. I found the story to be well written and at first a little hard to understand until I had read for a wile then it went very smoothly. There is kidnapping, drama, suspense, villains and romance with a happy ending. I received a copy of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Ryan Garahan is part of a private security team working for the Duke of Wyndmere. The men are big Irish cousins and rotate between all of the members of the Duke's extended family.

Prudence Barstow has been made to feel ashamed of her appearance for years. Now working as an unpaid governess for a viscous aunt, she has found joy in her young charges. Unfortunately that doesn't save her from abuse.

There is a lot of adventure for our characters and plenty of amusing action for us.

Although this is part of a series you can read each book on its own. If you want to read the series it's best read in order.

Good fun.

Moving on to the cousins on the Barons estate is exciting to see the possibilities of what can happen. There is a curvy girl who needs assistance getting herself and her charges down from a tree. And that's how it is started. One mishap after another which is quite common when there are twins involved. Keeping the twins and herself our of trouble is a full time job, literally. I have enjoyed this whole series and this book is no less entertaining and compelling than the rest. Its amazing how author can come up with so many twist and turns for different characters. There are steamy scenes once they are married.

Rating 4.5
A great addition to the Duke’s Guard series. It is well written, full of action and very entertaining. Prudence has had to deal with untrustworthy family and relatives and this has left her questioning her self worth as a woman. I loved Garahan and the love he has for Prudence and his ability to finally make her realize her value especially to him. As usual, danger from unknown sources takes various shapes with no way to know when or how they will make their presence known. I enjoyed the book and would highly recommend it.

Ryan's extended family have been employed to watch over the Duke of Wyndemere's loved ones as they face one threat after another. Prudence Barstow does not fit the expected norm for a society maiden as her height and build make her stand out and not in a good way either. Relegated to taking care of her cousins as a governess, the twins lead her from one escapade to another and it is fortunate that Ryan arrives each time they need help. However, determined to destroy Prudence a plot is put in place, and unfortunately, she is not the only victim. Rescuing Prudence once again leads Ryan and his cousins to the source of their problems. The novel has the wit and humor one can expect from this writer, and the story comes to a happy conclusion. I received a copy of this romance as a gift through Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley and this is my honest and voluntary review.

The Duke’s Saber by CH Admirand is another story about a member of the duke’s guard. This time it is Ryan Garahan who is guarding Baron Summerfield and his wife, Phoebe. There seems to be a whisper campaign about them in the village disparaging the baroness and later on, Garahan, a member of the duke’s guard. The guards are here with the Summfields since the baroness is the duke’s sister. Garahan is returning from his rounds one day when he hears some noises and sees a small boy at the base of a tree, speaking up into it. It turns out his brother and his governess are stuck in the tree: she had gone up after him. Now she is trapped as somehow her hair has wound around a branch and she can’t get it free. As Garahan was once a small boy, he climbs the tree with ease and frees both the governess and the boy. It turns out the boys are the sons of the local squire, Percy and Phineas, and the governess is their cousin, Miss Barstow, although that is not to be made common knowledge. Her parents, and now her aunt and uncle, were embarrassed by her as she was very tall and very voluptuous, not at all the norm for an English maiden.

Ryan Garahan falls in love as he helps the lady from the tree, although he doesn’t realized it at the time. The baron’s enemies in the village become his and Miss Prudence Barstow is locked in her room as punishment. In a vain attempt to control her curves she is relegated to bread and water which nearly proves fatal when one of the boys falls into the pond. She is the perfect march for Garahan once she recovers the self-esteem that her family has been chipping away at over the years. The road to a happy life is not an easy one for these two but they manage to get past all the people that wish them ill. Another fun chapter in this series for Admirand. A book well worth the read.

Ryan Garahan is one of the Duke of Wyndmere’s guards. Whilst patrolling the area he hears a cry for help & Ryan reacts instantly. He races to the ancient oak at the edge of the village, glances up and notices two things at once: a pair of scuffed half boots and shapely stocking clad legs dangling directly above him. Prudence Barstow has been sent to the Borderlands as governess to her young twin cousins, who are a handful but also very protective of Prudence.
Ryan is immediately smitten with Prudence & after rescuing her from a near drowning knows she’s the woman for him. Prudence has had a horrid childhood but still has a positive outlook, she can’t believe a man like Ryan could want her. A slow burn romance set against the backdrop of vicious rumours, harsh treatment & someone out to ruin the reputations of the Summerfields & their guards. I loved Ryan & Prudence & loved how he gave her confidence & made her realise she was loved. The villain was horrid & I would have loved to have seen them suffer more than they did. The twins were a delight & I hope they feature in future books.

The continued series of the Duke's Guards. I love this series of Irish brothers and cousins. Each is terrific in their own manner. It's Ryan's turn and with his highly developed sense of honor, loyalty and duty he runs to the rescue of a scream. There he finds Prudence stuck up in a tree. Prudence has been shifted around in the family, feels unloved, ugly and now is almost a servant being assigned as an unpaid governess to two boys. There is drama, mystery, fun, romance and of course horrible relatives to deal with. This isn't a quick fall in love and have a happy ending, it's a slow awakening fraught with hurdles galore. Captured my attention from the first page to the very last. A fantastic series in every case.

Honor, Rescues, Romance
Duty calls and Ryan to the rescue. This is where he meets Prudence in an awkward situation, and she desperately needs help.
This is a slow growing romance story that is filled with more than one rescue, gossip shows it ugly head, twin boys that are quite a
handful, along with Prudence being overworked and under paid (Oh, not being paid at all) for being her aunt and uncle's governess.
When shocking accusations are brandied about things really get tough for Ryan. The romance seems to be growing and we follow them through many situations that brings them closer together.
Needless to say, things get cleared up and the story leads the couple into a HEA.

This is another terrific entry into the Duke's Guard series. In this book, we move to the home of Baron Summerfield and his wife. The Baron is the Duke's cousin, and his wife is the Duke's sister. This puts them firmly under the Duke of Wyndmere's umbrella of protection and is why members of the Duke's Guard are stationed at their estate.

Ryan Garahan is one of those Guards, and as the story opens, he hears calls for help while on patrol. There, he finds Prudence stuck in a tree and is overcome by the sight that greets him. I loved the vision of Prudence in his life that immediately came to him. Like his brothers and cousins in earlier books, Fate has shown him his future, and there is no denying it.

Prudence is no meek and petite Society flower. Unusually tall and statuesque, Prudence's horrible mother sent her away so she wouldn't detract from her more conventionally pretty sisters. Prudence is now the unpaid and cruelly treated governess for her twin cousins, Percy and Phineas. She adores the boys, and they can be found outdoors whenever possible. But Prudence's aunt is even worse than her mother, and her treatment is abusive at best.

Ryan being who he is, his chivalrous treatment of Prudence is no surprise. I also loved how he connected with the two boys, who reminded him of his cousins, Thomas and Eamon, at the same age. Ryan can't get Prudence out of his mind, but he also worries about neglecting his duties at the same time. Matters become more complicated when Ryan comes to their rescue again, saving Prudence and Percy from drowning. Expedience has him taking them to the Baroness, who is closer, instead of to their home.

I loved the quick connection between Phoebe and Prudence and Prudence's surprise at how kindly she is treated. This is something she is unaccustomed to and not sure how to deal with. I ached for Prudence and the love that has been denied to her for so long. Her aunt and uncle's treatment of her at this point was criminal. After overhearing their parents' plans for Prudence, I cheered as Percy and Phineas took matters into their own hands to save their beloved cousin. I adored the following chapters, as Ryan's protectiveness is fully aroused.

I loved Prudence. The cruel treatment she has received from those who should love her has impacted the way she sees herself. It hurt to see how she accepted how she was treated. But once Ryan comes into her life, things begin to change. His obvious appreciation for her looks, kindness, and intelligence helped her see herself in a new light. However, Ryan still has a hard time convincing her they belong together. I loved seeing him finally overcome the fears that kept them apart. But Fate isn't quite finished with them.

At the same time Ryan is handling his unexpected love life, the Duke's Guard has a mystery to solve. The horrifying rumors that circulated about Lady Phoebe in The Duke's Hammer and were thought to be resolved have resurfaced in their village. The men of the Guard have a great deal of trouble uncovering the source of the problem. Complicating matters, there are also rumors about Ryan that go against everything he stands for. I had a good idea of the problem's origins, but getting the proof was the issue.

I was glued to the pages as new trouble for Prudence coincided with further information on the source of the rumors. I loved how Prudence's newfound self-confidence helped her until Ryan arrived. At the same time, the resolution of the rumor scheme had me on the edge of my seat as Phoebe rushed off to confront the one responsible. I laughed, cheered, gasped, and cried at the twists during the final confrontation.

I can't end the review without commenting on Phineas and Percy. I was amazed that they had such good hearts with the poor examples they had in their parents. I was thrilled to see how close they were to Prudence. I enjoyed their intelligence, enthusiasm, and joy in their activities with her. I laughed out loud at their awestruck reaction to meeting Ryan and the other Guards. And I was very impressed by their determination to help Prudence.

The epilogue was a terrific wrap-up to the book. I liked seeing what the future held for Ryan and Prudence. I can't wait to see who is next to fall.

I always love a good regency romance but this had so much more. A short but very sweet tale of two opposites souls finally finding their true love in each other. Everything tied up nice and neat with a cherry on top. Predictable happy ending.

The Duke’s Guard—Swoon for the Men in Black!

Another title in the Duke’s Guard series. I really should give them up. They’re not offering much new. A variation on the same theme. Bad (well good) Boy meets lovely girl who’s threatened in some way. Falls head over heels for her but has to convince her to want him as much as he wants her (or a variation on that theme). All happening as he’s trying to protect the Duke of Wyndmere and his family.
There’s always some sort of threat to the girl, and the Duke’s extended family.
The many Irish/Scottish cousins who make up the cohort that are the Guards are helping, or hindering. This tale is set at Summerfield Chase, home of the Baron and Baroness Summerfield, distant cousins to the Duke of Wyndmere. All are under the protection of the Duke’s Guards.
In the Duke’s Sabre, Prudence Barstow is the niece to a local squire. Prudence is treated like an unpaid governess, being starved because her mother and aunt feel she’s too tall and voluptuous (as they say slatternly) to marry, and is treated worse than a maid. Her physical appearance offends them.
Ryan Garahan rescues her from a tree, and later from drowning. Of course he’s enamoured of her at first sight. There’s twins involved. Precocious and precious. A lively pair.
Ryan, and as it turns out the Baroness, are both having shocking slander spread about them in the village. Ryan is accused of molesting two shy maidens. No one can get to the bottom of who’s fanning the gossip.
Add to this the kidnapping of Prudence and those maidens, and all the story hooks are in full flight.
So back to giving up on the series? I just can’t! Despite knowing the fairly predictable plot twists involved, despite me being aware of how the stories will turn out, even the fairly ordinary ones have me hooked!
Ah! Guilty pleasures!
