A Kilt for Christmas is a holiday romance about small-town Scottish woman Maisie and California professor West, who decides to rent a cottage in Scotland to work on his book. After a wish on the standing stones creates the biggest snowstorm of the century, Maisie and West work together to help the town. I think this is my third Tricia O'Malley book that I have read and my first of this series, but the description of a ghost Highland cow and a book sale made me want to read it!

I had a good time with this book! It wasn't really anything super new, but I enjoyed the setting, characters, and general small-town shenanigans. The supernatural aspects were also fun. This book made me really want to rent a cottage with a hot tub in Scotland in the winter! I will have a locate a winter hot tub experience a bit closer to home in the mean time.

This book was a bit more fluffy than I usually like to read. I knew that going in, so I sat back and tried to go with it. That worked well for me and I had a fun romp! I listened to the audiobook and enjoyed the narration. Definitely recommend that version!

If you're a big romance fan and are looking for a holiday story, give this one a try! 2.65 stars rounded up to 3 from me. Thank you to Dreamscape Select for the electronic advanced reader's copy of this book, my thoughts are my own!

This was my first Trisha O’Malley story, and I had a hard time getting into the characters and the magical element of the story. It was meant to be a lighthearted modern day fantasy like romance in the Highlands and I found it just a bit confusing.

Focussed around an American professor, taking a holiday vacation to his friends, estate, the remote Highlands, where he meets a crusty local, and immediately falls for her. The local refuses to get into a relationship with tourists, but all the forces seem to keep pushing them together. And my forces, I mean the small town, the weather, and the magical curse on said small town.

As for the narration, this book had dual narration for the female and male roles done by Amy, Landon and Watt. I found Will Watts male performance fit the heroin very well, and his use of accent and different voices. For the rest of the characters during his chapters worked very well. I had a different experience with Aimee, Landon narration, where her accent was so strong that it permeated, all of her voices, and it made it difficult to listen to the book at the same speed during the dual narration chapters. Her Scottish accent was so thick that I wanted to slow down the narration during her parts, because it was difficult to catch her reading, where we watch narration was very clear, even with the accent for the auxiliary characters and I could listen to it out, more standard, listening pace. The extreme difference in these two narrations was offputting and did at one point make me want to not continue with the story.

Overall, the story in the narration just wasn’t my cup of tea. But I appreciated the opportunity to listen to this new author and experience these different narrators.

Thanks to Dreamscape Select and NetGalley for the audio review copy.

A delightful and enchanting tale, perfect for embracing the holiday season. The dual narration magically brings the story vividly to life, effectively immersing readers into the world.

I particularly enjoyed the witty banter and entertaining antics of the elderly book club members, which only added charm to the story. Definitely add this one to your holiday TBR, especially the audio if possible.

This one was just okay for me. It was almost too cute and too sweet. I needed more conflict to keep me listening. I just struggled to want to hit play. I had to DNF at 50%. Huge thanks to Netgalley and the audiobook publisher for allowing me to listen and review this book.

This ARC was so enjoyable I bought the first two in the series! It is everything cozy romance lovers are looking for: A Scottish-American MC combo, a bit of magic, a small town, and The Book Bitches! I laughed, I got that sweet fluttery feeling, and I just had so much fun reading this.

- It is perfect for reading/listening in front of the fire with hot cocoa.
- It was short and easy.
- Low spice with only 1 sex scene and 3 kisses.
- There is some cursing, but I didn't find it offensive.

Best book ever? No. Does it give many things a reader might want for this genre? 100%. Would recommend.

Weston Smith is a professor in California who decides to take a vacation in Loren Brae, Scotland before Christmas. The town is hosting the Christmas Book Festival, which West is excited to help out with. He meets Maisie Barron, a girl from the town who dreams of being an author. West instantly knows she’s the woman of his dreams. Maisie makes a wish at the standing stones outside the town, which causes a catastrophic snow storm that snows in Maisie and West together. They can’t help but succumb to their attraction while they’re stuck in the storm of the century.

This was a short Christmas read. It’s part of a series, which I haven’t read, and I think that put me at a disadvantage. I wasn’t familiar with the town or characters, who may have been introduced more thoroughly in previous books. Maisie and West fell in love at first sight. I’m not a fan of the instant love trope, because it doesn’t feel genuine or long lasting.

Unfortunately, A Kilt for Christmas didn’t work for me.

Thank you Dreamscape Select for providing a copy of this audiobook.

This was so cute! I knew I would love it because I've loved the whole series but this was so so cute! I love the setting so much. I read along physically and it was the person reading!

“I fell for this girl the first time I saw her and I would do anything to make her mine. Even accept the help of an unhinged group of lover reader.”

I really enjoyed this audiobook but I didn’t fell in love with the story or the characters, that’s the only reason I only rated it 3 stars and not more. Maybe if I had read the book, I would have rate it better but we will never know.

It’s a real simple love story : an American boy meets a Scottish girl, he falls in love and wants her. And there’s a snowstorm so they basically are stranded and alone for days… For me, it was almost too simple. There aren’t many actions, except the book bitches (I think that’s what they were called, it was hard to remember the names with the audiobook…) They were overbearing and hilarious, and they tried to make Maisy and West closer (even though they didn’t need their help….)

I liked both the narrators, but as a non native English speaker, Maisy’s POV was pretty hard to follow sometimes ! I wasn’t that familiar with the Scottish accent, but after a few chapters, it was easier and in the end, it didn’t bother me at all !
West’s was just *chef’s kiss*

3.25 ⭐️ An American literature professor falls in love with a Scottish aspiring writer.

Sounds fun enough, except there's actual magic and literal ghosts are hunting the village and... idk. It always trips me up when all of a sudden there are real magical creatures in what otherwise would be a cute small-town romcom. I didn't really like that, but the rest (the non-magical things) were amazing and I loved the Book Bitches!

The audiobook was fun and I liked the narrators a lot! I've heard a couple of Will Watt's audiobooks now and I really like him! I know... Who am I? Liking a man's work when it comes to books and literature? I'm shocked too!

This was not for me. It seemed to drag on and I just could not get into it. The supporting characters were probably my favorite part of the book. The small town book club kept me laughing throughout. They were really fun.

Cute Christmas story with sprinkles of Scottish lore. In my opinion it was slightly too short and lacking plot but very fun and lighthearted. Definitely gave Hallmark vibes.

Didn't know it was a series, but still was a fine stand alone listen. Loved the audio.

Maisie is frustrated and makes a wish while at the standing stones outside Loren Brae. Weston is burnt out and needs a break. He takes a trip to Scotland to recharge.

Their paths cross and they are thrown together with the help of bad weather and some elderly book club members.

A cute fun read.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Dreamscape Select for an ALC in exchange for my honest review.

Special thanks to NetGalley, Lovewrite Publishing, and Tricia O'Malley for providing me with the ALC of this book in exchange for my honest opinion. All opinions are my own.

Basic info:
- Contemporary MF romance (romcom) with magical realism, a little bigger than a novella.
- 1st person, double POV, single timeline.
- Part of a series of standalone books

Tropes/hooks:
- Romcom
- Scottish small town
- Snowed in/forced proximity
- He falls first
- Intalove (especially on his part)
- Magical realism
- Scottish myths and lores

What is the book about?
This book follows Weston, an American literature professor, who escaped into a Scorrish small town to get a break. Here enters Maisie, an aspiring author who lives in this small town. There sparks between them fly almost instantly. So we follow them as they get to know each other by doing Christmas activities (gingerbread house competition and ugly sweaters included) and the tension just gets too much when they get snowed in in the storm of a century.

My thoughts on the book
- It was a cute, wholesome Christmas read. The writing was easy to follow and understand.
- The magical element (Maisie wishing for the extremely snowy Christmas and getting it and the Highland cow spirit) gave the book even more coziness, but I understand this kind of plot device may not be for everyone. And just in general I liked how the Scottish myths and lores were interwoven into the plot.
- I loved Maisie as a character, she was so feisty and competitive. I find it extremely relatable that Maisey started to fall for Weston because of his sexy brain and knowledge.
- I loved Weston as a character too. He was respectful towards Maises' wishes. I wasn't a too huge fan of him calling her the woman of his dreams after seeing her just once, but at least he had to work to convince her to give him a chance. The highlight of his trying to conquer her was him involving the elderly ladies' book club to help him with that.
- Talking about the said elderly ladies' book club, they were hilarious (especially them trying to get Maisey and Weston together using book tropes) and I loved them. Special mention to their bookish Christmas sweaters, I need them all.
- I also loved Weston and Maisey together. They were very cute, and especially their witty banter was great.
- The ending was a little bit hard to believe because it's not that easy to move a country with all the bureaucracy it involves but I can let it slide for the sake of a HEA.
- There was only one slightly descriptive spicy scene and first of all it delivered and second of all I don't feel like the book needed more spice.

My thoughts on the audiobook:
I enjoyed the audiobook narration. Both male and female narrator did a great job playing out the book and changing their accents. The technical quality of the audio was also great.

Side note: I'm in love with the cover.

</b>Description:</b>
Legend has it that wishes made at the standing stones during Christmas come true. As if. Maisie Barron is over it. A small-town girl with big dreams, her frustrations lead her to make a silly wish at the standing stones outside Loren Brae. Little does she know, the magick found there will transform her wish into a catastrophic event that threatens the upcoming Christmas Book Festival. Weston Smith needs a break. Burnt out from his tenure-track professorship, he decides that a holiday in little Loren Brae, Scotland, will be the perfect escape he needs to recharge his batteries. The last thing he expects is to find the woman he’s been waiting his whole life for. With the over-zealous help of a gaggle of elderly book club members, West finds himself on a real-life mission to woo the woman of his dreams. There’s more than magic at play when sparks ignite. Snowed in, with an undeniable attraction brewing, only West and Maisie can save Loren Brae from the snowstorm of the century. Author’s note: a handsome American takes on a lonely Scotswoman in this stand-alone, small-town, Scottish romance. Wicked banter, a highland ghost coo, and dogs dressed in kilts make this magical Christmas story the perfect happily-ever-after.

Even though there was sex in this Christmas book, I gave it 4 stars because there was so much I loved about it. A ghost coo, a kitchen witch, dual point of views, a kitchen elf, a blizzard, a book fair, meddling old ladies, called the Book Bitches. They were a hoot!! My only complaint about this was the narrators. She was terrible, and he was only a little better. I highly recommend it, but read book and skip the audiobook.

Thank you to NetGalley, Dreamscape Select, and Lovewrite publishing for the chance to listen and review this book. All thoughts are my own.

This was a cute and quick holiday story. There was a lot going on in the periphery (ghosts, Unicorns, meddling townspeople) which was fun and distracting.

I listened to thr audiobook and overall it was good. The accents sometimes made it difficult but did keep my mind rooted in Scotland.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the ALC of this book. All opinions are my own.

So sweet and full of christmas spirit. I loved the setting and how snowy it was. The book bitches have my heart! I really really enjoyed this book as a whole and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a lighthearted easy to read christmas book.

Tricia O’Malley has penned a charming holiday story. No shade to Maisie and West, but the ghost coo was my favorite character.

I was a bit disappointed in the audiobook of this third installment of the “Wild Scottish” series. I love Will Watt and his accents, but his main character American accent didn’t work. I feel the same way about Amy Landon’s Scottish accent. I understand that it’s preferable to stick to the same narrators in a series but it’s a good idea to consider the best fits when you’ve got a variety of main characters with different backgrounds from book to book. That being said, I’ve enjoyed each book in this this series and will most likely listen to the next one- especially if we’re back to a Will Watt Scottish voice!
