Absolutely adorable! The MMC is a favorite type of mine, bookish, gentlemanly and an absolute cinnamon roll.

A Kilt for Christmas is a really fun, cozy fantasy romance with a grumpy/sunshine feel and a wonderful Scottish setting. There’s a small town book festival, a Scottish castle, and the couple that ends up snowed in together. This is the third book in the series and while it can be read as a standalone, it definitely made me want to go back and read the others!

The narrators were good, although I found it took me awhile to get used to their different reading speeds. I thought the male narrator was a bit slow for my preference, but the female narrator was a bit fast, so I had trouble adjusting the overall playback speed. I got used to it after a few chapters though and thoroughly enjoyed the story.

Thank you to NetGalley for the audiobook ARC. This is my honest review.

A cute story perfect for the holidays, taking place in the heart of Scotland.
American professor West Smith needs a break and heads to the small Scottish village of Loren Brae, recommended by a friend. The picturesque holiday is made complete with his remote cottage…and elderly book club members who decide to play matchmaker. Meanwhile hometown girl Maisie has big dreams but a secret wish at the standing stones could put the little village and its book fest at risk of a winter disaster. It’s up to West and Maisie to unite and save the village…much to the joy of the meddling, beloved book club.
The audiobook was perfect with the narrators seamlessly transitioning between the fast paced Scottish accents and West’s American accent.

When I saw this story described as – ‘a Scottish romance between a handsome American and a lovely Scotswoman, some wicked banter, a highland ghost, and dogs dressed in kilts make this magical Christmas story the perfect happily-ever-after’.~ It sounded like a perfect read a week before Christmas.

Weston Smith is a professor at a California University who is burnt out with the pressure of trying to get tenure and just needs a break and decides he should visit his friend in Loren Brae, Scotland. However, he certainly didn’t expect to find the woman of his dreams.

Maisie Barron is a small-town girl with big dreams. However isn’t interested in a romance; luckily Wes finds help from a local women’s book club in order to woo Maisie.
As the romance blooms a few days before Christmas there is a snow storm coming that will close down little Loren Brae,
Maisie tells West that there is a Legend that wishes made at the standing stones during Christmas come true; this legend/ritual that can change the course of the storm. The ritual is just a tad racy. West is game before he even knows what it is.

I loved this! A fun magic twist on your winter romances. I love the book club; they are a great example of how lovable and quirky these characters are. I'm typically not an insta-love kind of girl, but Hallmark has trained me to gush about it when it snows. I love all the little Christmas activities and the moments that make you fall in love with the characters.

A sweet, funny, lighthearted holiday story that is a truly fun listen. Weston needs a respite from his very hectic life so heads out to Scotland for some R&R and to recharge. Some quiet time is exactly what he needs. The last thing he is looking for is romance or any major life changes. Well, that’s not what happens when he gets to a lovely town and meets Maisie and the chemistry os off the charts. She is a riot as are most of the towns people he meets. Its a truly funny, witty, wonderful listen with great narration.

This was such a fun and whimsical audio book. I really enjoyed the story and all of the Scottish lore that went a long with the story as well.

What a fantastic book! I love the touches of magic and wonder and joy in the book, and how West and Maisie embrace the craziness of the Christmas season. I laughed out loud at points. :)

This made me want to find the other books in the series and see how the other characters respond to the magic of Loren Brae.

I also liked having a dual-narrator audiobook, as it helps to bring the perspectives of the two main characters to life a little better.

Thank you Netgalley and Dreamscape Select for this ALC!

- This one was missing the plot and the urgency created by the Order, and I didn't feel like the characters or the love story were enough to make up for it.
- When making your MMC a feminist, you can't also have him try to "I'm a big man so I should do this" his way through a situation. This was even more frustrating because, as the FMC points out, he knows nothing about blizards and she does!
- The romance was very instalove-y and I didn't feel much chemistry between the two MCs.
- I did love being back in Loren Brae, and it was fun to see characters from the first two books! I would definitely recommend reading the first two before reading this one.

A Kilt for Christmas, by Tricia O’Malley, is a standalone story featuring many of the characters found in the Enchanted Highlands series. American scholar and college professor Weston Smith has decided to spend his Christmas holidays in Loren Brae, Scotland, at the encouragement of a friend, Matthew, who had spent time there on an archaeological site.

With a small but comfortable cottage rented, Weston settles in and finds his way to the local pub in search of a meal and a pint. It is here he makes the acquaintance of Maisie Barron, a young lady determined to win in the pub’s trivia game. Being one person down on the team, Weston is drafted to play. When the team succeeds and wins a special sleigh ride, Maisie walks to the stones and makes a wish for snowfall, even though she doesn’t believe in the magic of a Christmas wish at the stones. That all changes when the storm of the century moves in.

This is a delightful story complete with a ghost coo, a kitchen Brunie, spells, and the magic of Christmas. I very much enjoyed this book and I do recommend it!

What a cute romance with a splash of magic! This might be my favorite holiday romance of the season so far. While I'm not a big fan of insta love this book really balanced it with the he falls first trope. It was sweet and honestly adorable. It definitely had Hallmark vibes from start to finish. I loved the use of magical Christmas wishes and ghosts. The older women scheming to get the main character together was so much fun. I highly recommend for anyone looking for clean holiday romance.

I didn't realize from the summary that the magic was actual magic and not the magic of love if you will, since this is book 3.5 of a series, it was a bit jarring and was thrown at readers without any warning. It starts like a regular holiday romance then suddenly ghosts and kelpies and honestly not in a good way. I love a paranormal but this just didn't vibe with me

DNF at 25%. Sorry it was too Insta lovey for me! I do like the concept and it seemed sweet! The setting was nice and there was not really any issues with the writing. I just couldn’t buy in enough with the way the MMC fell for her and decided challenge was on to woo her. Others may have better luck!

I was really hoping for a light and cheerful Christmas romance, but unfortunatley, this wasn't quite what I'd looked for. I struggled to connect with the main characters - Maisie in particular came across as annoying, and her competitive streak was irritating, and I didn't feel the attraction between the two main protagonists.

Magical realism is usually something I enjoy. In this novella, the magical elements come from appearences of a ghost coo, a kitchen brownie and kelpies adding a light touch of the supernatural. However, the whole storyline, matchmaking efforts and all felt somewhat over the top.

The narration made it tricky for me to get into the story. The Scottish accent of the female narrator didn't quite sound right. I persevered, hoping I'd warm to the story more, but sadly I arrived at the end without feeling particularly invested.

Story Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ (0-5)

What I’m Starry-Eyed Over:
🤩 First person dual POV and two narrators. The accents are fun.
🤩 Part of a series but works totally fine as a standalone.
🤩 Cute, light-hearted and charming.
🤩 He falls first.
🤩 Opposites attract.
🤩 “You have this quiet self-assurance. Like you can handle whatever life throws at you. I admire it. It also makes me want to muck you up a bit.”
🤩 Bookish MCs—an author and an English/literature professor.
🤩 West is witty, sweetly honest, and hotly attentive.
🤩 The magical elements of The Christmas Wish, highland coo, unicorns, and hot tubs.

What I’m Wishing/Dizzy About:
💫 I didn’t really feel the feels of love, longing, lusty goodness, and laughs as strongly as I’d hoped.
💫 I was not fully immersed in the setting which is what I usually love about Scottish highlands books.

I could not get into this one. The audio was kinda annoying and kept pulling me out of it. Might have to try it in paper format

A short story from the Enchanted Highlands series that is perfect for your Christmas loving soul! This is the 3rd of the series and I do recommend that you read or listen to the series in order as each book builds upon the last and will not only make more sense in order, but give you hours more of enjoyment and entertainment! The narration of this audio book series is outstanding as the dual narration really brings the characters to life as you have a sexy male voice to bring the man's side of the story to life while the female voice is perfect for bringing the female side of the story to life. Each book brings a couple together as they work to protect the town. In this book, the Christmas lovers are more tangentially related to the protection of the town as they are more sidekick characters that have been brought to the forefront to be the lovers in this story and oh what fun it is to follow them to the path of accepting their love. Ghost coo, kitchen elf antics and a gang of elderly book clubbers all join in to help the lovers find their way to each other causing much laughter! Those of us who like spice, never fear, there is enough spice to make you warm and happy! I can't wait for the next audiobook in the series to be available!

Clyde and the Book B*tches are hands down some of my favorite characters of the year! A holiday rom-com with a Scottish lilt was enough to have me hooked but a fun plot and lovable characters made this the perfect holiday romp!

I hadn't read the first two in this series, which inititally threw me off when some unexpected plot elements ocurred, but ultimately this was a fun, warm, ridiculous romp that was perfect for light holiday reading! I will definitely be going back to read the others in this series. I'd recommend this to any fans of cozy romance, folklore buffs, and anyone looking for a comfort read.

I did the audiobook version and loved both the narrators, who executed the Scots with perfection!

Thanks to NetGalley and Lovewrite Publishing for an ARC of this audiobook!

Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to listen to this book in exchange for my honest review.

I love books that I can imagine the entire story in my head. It’s very visual and descriptive with a wonderfully strong sense of place. That aspect is what made the book enjoyable for me.
I felt conflicting reading this, because I’ve always said it’s good if I can imagine it inside my head. That’s how I know I really like a book. However, it felt rushed. I think the character development in the beginning was shallow for lack of a better word, and everything fit too neatly in, too conveniently even for a cozy romance novel where all of those things are supposed to happen.
Don’t mistake that sentence for wishing there was more drama. I actually appreciate that this book didn’t have a love triangle, or complex drama. It felt relatable the way it was written, I just feel like maybe a strict word count limited the author on what could have been more drawn out.
For me this is a 3.5 book but I’m rounding up to a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A Kilt for Christmas was such a quick and fun read, perfect for anyone looking for a Christmas romance. I loved the magical element of this book, and the Book Bitches were hilarious. Although I am not a huge fan of the "love at first sight" I did enjoy the romance between West and Maisie. This is the third book in the Enchanted Highlands series, but you can read this book as a standalone. I am planning on reading book 1 and 2 since I enjoyed this book so much.

I loved listening to the audiobook. The two narrators were fantastic and kept me listening. If you are planning on reading A Kilt for Christmas, I highly recommend buying the audiobook.

The audiobook for A Kilt for Christmas comes out December 24th.
