The Love of My Afterlife by Kirsty Greenwood is a confident and hilarious story that captivated me from start to finish. I was completely engrossed in the book, losing track of time as I delved into its pages. I have no regrets about spending an entire day immersed in this entertaining and engaging tale.

The Love of My Afterlife was such a fun read! I enjoyed the afterlife plotline and Greenwood's humor. Delphie was a sincere and hilarious FMC. I found her character development arc satisfying to read. I thought Delphie was a great match for Cooper. I liked how Delphie and Cooper's relationship progressed. It was cute watching their "hatred" turn into something more. Cooper was satisfactory book boyfriend. I liked that he had some depth to him. I adored the way Greenwood used the romance tropes. I thought the cast of side characters were charming and important to the storyline. Greenwood did a great job with the found family trope. The ending tied everything up nicely. Overall, this was a great rom-com! Thank you to Berkley for the ARC.

This was a bit too cute for my taste. But more importantly, I’m not sure why anyone would want to help or befriend Delphie considering what a giant asshole she was. She really needed some boundaries.

This was a fun and delightful read full of lovely characters and a slow burn romance that hit all of the right feelings at the right time. I did have a few minor issues with the story, but they certainly didn’t interfere with my overall impression of the book. This is the first book I have read by this author, but I won’t hesitate to give her another chance.

Delphie is a very relatable character. She is a loner and an introvert, totally afraid to get close to anyone. She was horribly tormented and bullied in high school, which scarred her and made her not want to form any kind of relationship with anyone. She thought she was fine with this, until she died. Her death and meet cute were hilarious and set up the rest of the story perfectly. What follows is Delphie finding herself making friends and having the time of her life in just 10 days. Delphie just blooms in this book and it was a lot of fun to watch. She was a bit annoying at times, and totally clueless about social interactions, but I could overlook most of these foibles because she had such a good heart.

There is a cast of characters that support Delphie in her quest to meet her soul mate. They all become her friends and I really enjoyed all of them. Mr. Yoon is her elderly neighbor that she takes care of. I loved their relationship and how Delphie was worried about what would happen to him when she died. Aled, the librarian, and Frida the dog walker, were perhaps my favorite of her new friends. They both just totally took Delphie for who she was and were happy and willing to be her friend. Cooper, her downstairs neighbor, was also a great character. I loved watching their relationship grow and I loved how willing Cooper was to help her find her soulmate.

The story was a very quick read and one that I found hard to put down. This was a well thought out plot that used so many of the usual romcom tropes that I found myself laughing a lot throughout the story. Some of the antics that Delphie got up to in order to meet Mr. Right were unfortunately a bit over the top which was a little annoying. There were also a few times where I felt like Delphie was being extremely childish and naive and making horrible decisions. I also thought that the resolution of the bullying in high school, could have been handled a bit better. But overall it was a good story that I found myself enjoying and had a hard time putting down.

This was a very enjoyable romance that I would recommend, especially if you are looking for a light vacation read. It will make you smile and you will rejoice as Delphie comes out of her shell and learns about the importance of having connections with others.

The Love of My Afterlife begins with our main character, Delphie who is enjoying lunch in her apartment. Since she lives alone, she starts choking and dies. Yes, she dies within the first few chapters of the book. She goes up to the equivalent of a waiting room for those who died and ends up, meeting the love of her life.

The only catch is that Jonah isn’t dead but Delphie is. Delphie ends up begging her angel to send her back so she can get a chance at true love. Of course, the angel reads romance and loves love so she agrees. Delphie has 10 days to meet up with Jonah, convince him they’re soulmates and get a kiss from him.

While the idea seems farfetched, Delphie goes along with it. She’s aided by the help of some unlikely allies in the form of her neighbors and coworkers. In particular, she ends up befriending her neighbor: Cooper. It’s truly a race against the clock for Delphie to find her true love and save herself. Along the way though, Delphie starts to realize that maybe things aren’t as they seem.

Since I went into this book, not knowing much, I don’t want to tell you anymore. All in all, The Love of My Afterlife ended up surprising me in the best way. This book was an absolute delight while also being slightly morbid and downright bonkers at times. Either way, I can see readers loving and enjoying this one as a summer read or even, close to Halloween as it does have a magical realism twist to it.

Whether you’re new to Kristy Greenwood’s books or not, this is one heck of an introduction and I can’t wait to see what Greenwood does next.

Thank you to NetGalley and Berkley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review

I would recommend if you're looking for (SPOILERS)

-m/f speculative romance
-The Little Mermaid vibes
-found family
-only one bed
-fake dating

This is a hard book to review because I don't want to give anything away. But I also recommend just going in blind and enjoying the ride. This was cozy despite dealing with death, about living your life, taking your chances and just a sweetness to it. I could really visualize it, the writing had such an ease to it.

I haven't really been in the romance book mood lately, but the synopsis of The Love of My Afterlife sounded like so much fun I decided to try it. I'm so glad I did, because this was a laugh out loud funny story that gave off the best kind of rom-com vibes, and I loved it. Delphie, who has led a very solitary life (by choice) dies and goes to the afterlife where she meets her soulmate, only to find out that he's actually in a coma on Earth and was sent to the afterlife by mistake, which is when he gets yanked back to the land of the living, and all she was able to learn about him was his first name. Delphie is offered the chance to go back to Earth to see if she can find him, but she only has 10 days, and if she doesn't find him in that time AND get him to kiss her, she will be returned to the afterlife for good. Easy-peasy, right? Well, where's the fun in that!

Delphie was a fun character, even when she's a bit grumpy and manic, which is understandable given her mission. She ends up enlisting the help of her downstairs neighbor, who is also a bit grumpy, on her adventures, and the merriment begins. They end up in a lot of awkward situations, which is where the laugh out loud parts happen.

All in all, this was a very fun book and I highly recommend it.

5/5 stars.

*** I would like to thank NetGalley, Berkley Publishing Group, and Kirsty Greenwood for the opportunity to read and review The Love of My Afterlife.

Delphie dies, THEN she meets one of her soulmates, so her afterlife coach cuts her a deal and gives her 10 days back on earth and a single shot to stay alive. ☠️

I’m really torn on this one! The first chapter made me laugh and then I was completely annoyed until about the 60% mark. 😬 Our FMC, Delphie, irritated the crap out of me. She was written as an extremely sheltered character - almost 30 with literally zero friends, she’d never dated and hadn’t even been to a restaurant since she was a kid. This seemed to be carte blanche for her to act like an actual child in the most cringe and idiotic ways for most of the book. The scenarios she got into while looking for her soulmate were so unnecessary and obnoxious they almost made me throw in the towel. Around 60% in, she switched gears and the book was actually enjoyable. Here we had real stories about maximizing her time left on earth, choosing happiness, making friends and really living. With more of that and less of the nonsense, I would have liked this one a lot more. It was a solid 2 stars for me, but I liked the final 40% enough to raise it to a 3.

My thanks to NetGalley and Berkley for a complimentary advance copy of this eBook, out 7/2/2024.

I devoured this book! Kristy Greenwood's books are funny, sweet and unique - The Love of My Afterlife even more the others. Delphie gets a second chance at life and love, after dying and meeting, then quickly losing, the one in her afterlife. She doesn't have much time to find him back on earth, but if she does she'll get her life back. Hilarious and engaging, you can't help but root for Delphie!

I really loved this one. It was cute, funny, and even a little emotional. Delphie learned so much during her second chance at life that it gave the book a deeper meaning.

This felt a lot like Drop Dead Diva meets The Good Place. Those were two of my favorite shows once upon a time.

Merritt was so funny. I loved her obsession with romance novels and all the mentions of some of my favorite books or authors. Not to mention the book tropes. I sort of predicted the end and twist with Merritt. I'm glad it ended like it did.

Some of the British phrases or words threw me off a bit and broke me out of the story. As I'm very American, I sometimes had a hard time understanding what certain things meant.

4.5 🌟 stars! Highly recommend. Thanks to Netgalley for this arc.

4.5⭐️

This was such a unique love story that not only focuses on the HEA, but finding your joys and happiness with new life long friends and making new memories and living life to the fullest. I guess it’s also a big motivation since Delphie literally died and is sent back to earth to find her soulmate after meeting him in the afterlife and only has 10 days to find him before she’s sent back permanently.

Along her journey, her grumpy neighbor helps Delphie find her soulmate and the banter between them is witty and the tension is thick and and they’re bathe grumpy and I loved every second of it. I even loved all the side characters we meet throughout the story and want to be their friend. The story is quick paced and I found myself not able to put it down! There were moments where I wish I had more details with certain characters or in some chapters, it felt like you had the surface level of information that you needed, but I wanted a little bit more.

Highly recommend this one! Thank you Berkley and NetGalley for the arc in exchange of my honest review!

Some tropes:
-grumpy x grumpy
-fake dating
-one bed / one room left at the inn
-fast pace with witty banter
-Beetlejuice meets The Good Place vibes

This was such a cute book! I really loved the MFC Delphie. I loved watching her grow and come into herself through out this book. I laughed out loud so many times in this story I was actually nervous to go to bed, I was scared I would wake my husband up while reading. I can't always get into Rom-coms. Sometimes they are just to much over the top for me. Kristy Greenwood did a wonderful job with this book. I laughed more than I have in ages while reading a book and never got that annoyed feeling of thinking, if one more overly crazy thing happens to this character I will need to pause reading for a minute. She was so good at keeping the hilarious scenes believable and not so many that you feel too sorry for the character to enjoy them. That is talent in my opinion. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is looking for some laughs with a very entertaining book.

4.5 🌟
this was such a heartwarming read. i love a romance book that not only has a sweet romance with a lot of the tropes i like (fake dating, found family, grumpyxgrumpy), but also one that conveys such a beautiful message about life and this did just that.

i felt so many different emotions while reading. so many messages about life and community and finding your way were executed in such a comforting way. the romance was adorable, but what i really ate up was the found family that gets established and it made me so happy to read.

without giving too much away, this was a really great read for me and something that i think has great potential to be adapted.

thank you NetGalley, Berkeley and Kirsty Greenwood for this arc in exchange for an honest review!!

I absolutely loved this book! It's a mix between The Good Place and a chick flick. I read this while we were on vacation in one afternoon of sitting out by the pool deck. I laughed, I cried, I loved the found family aspect in the book as well and all the sides characters are special and endearing in their own ways.

Thank you NetGalley and Berkley for the ARC! The Love of My Afterlife by Kristy Greenwood follows Delphi who after adolescent betrayal and trauma, has closed herself off from most close relationships with others. But faced with sudden death and a sad look back on her life, Delphi meets a wonderful, handsome man in the afterlife (Jonas), but quickly loses him when they discover his time isn't up. To make up for her rough luck in life (and the afterlife), Delphie is given the chance to go back and if she can get Jonas to kiss her of his own free will but she will only have 10 days back on earth to find him, woo him, and get that kiss. Upon her return to life, Delphie enlists the help of her neighbor (and enemy) and as they seek out Jonas, Delphie begins to realize that living (and forming bonds with others) might not be as bad as she feared. Quirky, sweet and fun with a great cast of supporting characters, The Love of My Afterlife is sure to win over the hearts of readers and have them rooting for Delphie!

This was so so good! Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the arc!!

This story made me laugh and cry so much. Delphie was such a fun fmc to follow. I loved the change she went through and that what happened made her realize that she has to change something in her life to actually live it. Loved the side characters so much and the role they played in Delphies life.

I loved the addition of romance novel tropes and the mentioning of popular authors.
This was so so fun and I actually laughed out loud a couple times.

Cooper and Delphie were so good together and their banter was amazing!

I loved the little twists and maybe I should have but I didn’t see them coming. I also really enjoyed the message this portrayed and how this book got deep whilst still being fun and lighthearted.

Definitely a win for me because I found a new favorite 5 star book! Highly recommend!!

Delphie dies while eating a hamburger. A HAMBURGER? Yes. What a sad way to die, but the thing is nobody will probably even notice because she has isolated herself from people, besides her neighbor, Mr. Yoon. Delphie wakes up in the Afterlife, which creepily looks like a laundromat. After talking to Merritt, her Afterlife Therapist, a man shows up. Not just any man, but Delphie's soulmate. But Merritt sends him back to the living because he wasn't supposed to actually be dead. Delphie and Merrit end up striking a deal that allows Delphie the chance to find her soulmate, amongst the living. If she can find him and get him to kiss her within 10 days, she gets to stay alive. Will Delphie be able to find her soulmate, by only knowing his first name and his looks?

OMG what a cute book! This book had me laughing out LOUD on so many different occasions! The comedy in this was hilarious and I really enjoyed it. The story as a whole was super cute and an interesting concept. The author did a great job of wrapping things up with a nice bow to end the story. If you want a book with [almost] all the romance tropes and want a good laugh, then I think you'd really enjoy this one!

Such a sweet and funny book. I loved the cast of characters, and how Delphie gradually grew out of her shell and went for it making friends and going out of her comfort zone!

Thanks to the publisher for providing me with a digital review copy via NetGalley!

For me, this was a slow start. But also just quirky enough to catch my interest and keep me turning pages. I am so glad that I did. When Delphie gets a second chance to find her soulmate (or she dies), life is flipped upside down. She is forced to engage in life and with people in ways that she never has before.

What I loved most is the surprises that the author pulled off. In rom coms, the cadence and pattern is usually so expected that we don't get truly unexpected moments. But I found myself surprised and delighted more than once. I loved watching growth in all the characters, but particularly in Delphie and in Cooper. The ending resolved well. The romance was so good. I am here for it.

What makes you belly over laughing?

For me it’s people farting or falling.

I know, I’m awful.

We’re supposed to ask if they are ok, or just politely walk away if someone farts but I mean come on man, I can’t do it. It’s hilarious.

If I fart or fall I promise, you can laugh.

Do you want to know what else had me bellied over laughing?

The Love of My Afterlife

I was late to the gate when it came to the Kirsty Greenwood, craze but once I got my hands on The Love of My Afterlife, and my fate was sealed…

(I also just binge read the entire backlog and hung on her every word)

Greenwood, instantly became auto buy...

If she writes it, I’ll read it.

This jazzy little number right here will have your heart swelling and giggling out loud.

I get it now, Kirsty Greenwood is “lit”.

Five Stars

Check out this teaser :

A recently deceased woman meets “the one” in the afterlife waiting room, scoring a second chance at life (and love!) if she can find him on earth before ten days are up…

If she wasn’t dead already, Delphie would be dying of embarrassment. Not only did she just die by choking on a microwaveable burger, but now she’s standing in her ‘shine like a star’ nightie in front of the hottest man she’s ever seen. And he’s smiling at her.

As they start to chat, everything else becomes background noise. That is until someone comes running out of a door, yelling something about a huge mistake, and sends the dreamy stranger back down to earth. And here Delphie was thinking her luck might be different in the afterlife.

When Delphie is offered a deal in which she can return to earth and reconnect with the mysterious man, she jumps at the opportunity to find her possible soulmate and a fresh start. But in a city of millions, Delphie is going to have to listen to her heart, learn to ask for help, and perhaps even see the magic in the life she’s leaving behind…
