Thank you very much to @prhaudio for the #ALC of this book. The book is published by @berkleypub @berkleyromance #berkleypartner #berkleyromance #berkleybookstagram and is releasing TOMORROW in the USA. UK friends - it was released on June 20th! đź©·
I was super excited to get approved for this audiobook because it has been on my list of upcoming reads this summer and I was looking forward to it. This book defied my expectations and as much as I thought I was going to enjoy this book, I actually enjoyed it even moreso! Compared to some romances, I didn’t think that this book was predictable either, and the ending kind of left me speechless! I thought that Sofia Oxenham had a bright and cheerful (and soothing!) voice and was a wonderful choice to narrate this book. I am definitely going to look for more books narrated by her in the future!
I am also definitely going to look out for more books by Kirsty Greenwood in the future!
Thank you again to #PRHAudio for the ALC! đź©· I hope to work with you again in the future! #PRHAudioInfluencer #partner
This book kept a smile on my face. I thought it was so unique and fun.
I found all of the characters charming and fun.
I can't express how much fun I had reading this.
I just loved it!
The Love of My Afterlife by Kirsty Greenwood is a whimsical and heartwarming story that combines romance with elements of magical realism. The plot follows Delphie, who finds herself in the afterlife after an unexpected accident and is given a chance to return to earth to find her soulmate, a journey that leads her to confront her past and open herself up to new experiences. The novel is rich with quirky side characters that contribute to a delightful found-family dynamic, while Delphie's growth from isolation to connection offers both humor and depth. Greenwood’s engaging prose makes this a charming read that resonates with themes of love and self-discovery.
Magical romance is such a fun sub genre that I have really come to enjoy, especially when it is done well! Love of My Afterlife is unique spin on magical romance that is full of humor and heart. It is one of those books that really gets you thinking about life in general and how you might do things differently if you were given a fresh start. I really loved the FMC Delphie. She is full of quickwit and has a huge heart, but it takes her getting a second chance to realize that she hasn't really been LIVING her life and that she has so much more to offer the world than she ever thought. Getting to follow along as she is basically sent on a quest to find her soulmate that she mistakenly met in the afterlife was such a way to tell this story.

Review will post on Forever Young Adult's blog on 10/22/24:
First Impressions: Lazy
This cover is kind of twee and bland. I guess the clouds are supposed to represent that she goes to Heaven for her afterlife, wink-wink, nudge-nudge, but honestly, it feel so lazy. The book deserves a better cover (maybe Merritt’s brightly-colored laundromat). Luckily I already knew this author, because nothing about this cover made me want to pick up this book. (ALSO I just realized after grabbing a larger image of the cover that COLLEEN HOOVER has a quote on there praising the book and I have never read a word CoHo has written AND I NEVER WILL, and if I hadn’t known this author and saw that quote I really may have steered clear because I am a petty bitch. But I guess a broken clock is right twice a day. /endhaterade)

Delphie has a case of arrested development. She was bullied by her former friend in high school, and, coupled with a narcissistic mother, she let these setbacks control her life to the point where she closed herself off to all new or uncomfortable experiences. She’s a little prickly and goofy, but she secretly craves human connection even if she will tell you she doesn’t.
Meet Cute: Match Made In Heaven
After Delphie chokes to death on a microwave burger, she ends up in the afterlife—and she cannot accept it. As she tries to “escape”, she runs into the most charming, recently deceased man she’s ever met, and the chemistry is off the charts. Except there’s one little snag: he’s not actually dead, it was just a mix-up with some anesthesia. Before they can really explore this thing any further, he gets whisked back to the real world.
The Lean: Something Familiar
There’s banter and hijinks and moments that made me laugh. The chemistry reminded me of something you’d see in an early-2000s rom-com.
Dirty Talk
This book is fairly light on the spice—you wouldn’t get a hardcore graphic sex scene in said rom-com above—but that doesn’t mean nothing happens!
Ms. Perky’s Prize for Purplest Prose
Greenwood’s writing is conversational and casual, and I don’t think it’ll work for everyone. Delphie can be a bit immature and over-the-top and things sometimes just fell into place in a way you just kind of have to shrug about and move on. But it toed the line the right amount between silly and still entertaining, at least for me. I think my favorite parts were the side characters and found family that Delphie either meets or realizes she’s always had and how they all pull together for her.
We Need To Talk: Whimsical
I’ve read two other books by Kirsty Greenwood, and the first book was HILARIOUS (for some reason they changed the name of this book, The Vintage Guide to Love and Romance, to Jessica Beam Is a Hot Mess, which seems like a downgrade). Like, I remember reading it in the middle of the night on vacation and trying desperately to stifle my giggle-tears so I didn’t wake up my husband kinda funny. This book wasn’t quite as funny as that one was, but Greenwood has such a classic-rom-com, breezy but heartfelt writing style and a Bridget-Jones-esque dry British humor, that I couldn’t help but be charmed by the whimsy of the story. I think I actually did shed a few tears near the end, but more-so because I was just so in love with the characters and rooting for their happy endings.
Was It Good For You? Yes
This won’t be a book I’ll probably think about long-term, but it was fun to read while we were together!
FTC Full Disclosure: I received my free review copy from Berkley Books. I received neither money nor peanut butter cups in exchange for this review. The Love of My Afterlife is available now.
I’m definitely going to seek out more of this author’s works after reading this book. I loved this! It was hilarious from the outset and then surprisingly, also got a bit emotional without losing the wit it started with. The cast of characters were so lovable minus the ones who were there to cause conflict, and even though I’m a frequent reader of romance novels and can see what’s coming a mile away, the twist of this one was a shocker to me. Fans of rom-coms pick this book up now!!!
A witty paranormal romcom. I have been needing more books to make me feel hopeful and this one hit the spot.
This was such a fun and silly read, and I enjoyed every moment of it! I've been struggling with reading with my eyes, so I grabbed the audio, which worked really well for me. While Delphie did come off immature, it all worked for me in this one. I didn't seem to mind it at all, it was thoroughly entertaining.
Really liked this one and looking forward to the next Kirsty Greenwood book.
Thanks to PRH Audio for a free audiobook and to Berkley Pub and NetGalley for an eARC.
This was a cute little Rom Com with some magical realism. It did touch on serious topics for sure.
I found the narrator was great and brought the story to life.
Interested to see that Wayfarer has optioned this one.
This was cute, heartwarming, and very funny at times, but also got me right in the feels story, dealing with grief. I thought this would be a more romance driven story which is why I request but I found myself presently happy by getting something different.
Mmmmm, I’m not fully ready to review this because my thoughts are still bouncing around a lot, but I wanted to submit this to have ~ something. I’ll edit and improve my review before posting to sites, I just need to get my thoughts out of my head right now. :)
I listened to the audiobook and LOVED the narrator. I thought she was amazing! She had the perfect amount of spunk.
I really loved the plot and the idea of the afterlife waiting room. It reminded me of an adult version of Layoverland by Gabby Noone and the ABCFamily movie Teen Spirit. I thought it was fun and outlandish and imaginative.
Honestly the only thing I didn’t love was how whiny Delphi was. Like girl you’re alone because you choose to be alone, please stop.

Thank you to Berkley Romance and NetGalley for the advanced copies in exchange for my honest opinion.
The Love of My Afterlife was a delightful and heartwarming read. I’ll admit, this book was hyped up quite a bit for me, so it did fall slightly below my expectations. However, it’s still an excellent read that embraces the delightful weirdness I love about magical realism. It’s quirky, warm, and if you’re a fan of The Good Place, you’ll feel right at home with its vibes.
Delphie, dear sweet Delphie, was so pitiful in the beginning (for lack of a better word), and I found myself cringing at her early on. But as she began to grow and flourish, I was incredibly proud of her for finding her people and embracing the joys of life and human connection. The last third of the book captured my heart as the characters came together, and I really enjoyed the romance element, which added a touching layer of depth.
What I absolutely adored was how this book tackled grief and life after loss. The found family elements were just perfect, and I loved Delphie’s relationship with Mr. Yoon and how deeply she cared for him.
Overall, I highly recommend this one and look forward to reading more from Kristy Greenwood!
This was such a unique story and I couldn’t put it down.
Delphine dies by choking on nothing other than a microwave hamburger. Now she’s in the afterlife, in her night gown, and she just met the most gorgeous man she’s ever seen. The only problem is he’s not dead, but she is. He gets to wake up, she doesn’t. When she’s offered a deal she can’t turn down, she gets to return to earth for ten days she immediately says yes. The twist is that she has to find the mystery man, and she must persuade him to kiss her. If Delphie succeeds she will stay alive! She has no clues other than his first name and large city he lives in.
With the help of her strange neighbour Cooper , she finds herself jogging through the park, at a nude art class and podium dancing to just name but a few in her quest to find him. The story continues at a great pace with a cast of amazing supporting characters. Not only funny there is also sadness and dealing with loss, and a twist I just didn’t see coming. Delphie is going to have to listen to her heart, learn to ask for help, and perhaps even see the magic in the life she’s leaving behind…
Thank you so much to Berkley Romance, Netgalley, & PRH Audio for the advanced copies! All thoughts and opinion are still my own.
I love stories that play with time & timelines, so I was really excited going into this one! And while it wasn't quite what I was expecting, it was still a very sweet and lovely contemporary story!
For me, I was I hoping for a more romance focused story (since this is classified as a romance) but it leans far more contemporary in my opinion.
There is definitely a romance and an HEA, but the main focus of the story is on the heroine's self discovery journey. With the romance as a side plot.
Overall I thought it was well done! The heroine is a relatable hot mess, the hero is a classic pining grump, and the story has an overall hopeful/happy vibe. If you're looking for something sweet & heartwarming with a hefty dash of
Genuinely such a fun book. It was so cute and sweet! I can't wait to read more from this author. Highly recommend!
ARC provided in exchange for an honest review.
I’m a little behind with my ARC’s but working diligently to get caught up. I really enjoyed the plot of this romantic comedy! It was original and funny and even threw in a twist towards the end that was super sweet! The characters and setting were well developed and the story held my attention the entire time. I would highly recommend to anyone who likes romantic comedies with supernatural elements!
Romcom is not a literary genre that I reach for often. However, in this case, the description of the book was so intriguing that I was tempted.
The premise of the book seemed excellent to me, but later it got a bit worse. The idea of the main character, irritating at times, in a fruitless pursuit of her soulmate and the kiss that saves her life, became a little irritating to me.
When Delphie finally met Jonah halfway through the book, I felt embarrassed by her behavior. However, I really liked Cooper and started rooting for this romance.
As a sporadic reader of romcoms, I cannot objectively evaluate all the qualities of the book, but would like to say that I had a nice time with it.
Thank you to the Author, Publisher and NeGalley for the copy.
Title: The Love of My After Life
Author: Kirsty Greenwood
Publisher: Berkley Romance
Format: Paperback, read e-book
Set In: London
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Imagine choking on a microwavable hamburger and waking up in an afterlife laundromat. That’s precisely what happens to Delphie Bookham.
According to Merritt, her Afterlife Therapist, she died, and the laundromat is a calming environment for the recently deceased in Evermore.
Delphie is led into Merritt’s office to proceed with her enrollment. She sees her life flash before her eyes on a TV/DVR player. Here, she’s reminded of her bad high school experiences, her broken family, and that she’s never had a romantic relationship. She runs into Jonah in the waiting room in Heaven and learns he’s one of her soulmates. The problem is, he’s been sent back to Earth.
Merritt informs Delphie that she has ten days to get Jonah to kiss her. If she’s not successful, she’s coming right back to Evermore, and she’ll be a guinea pig for the new dating service. Merritt loves romance novels, and she thinks this will be a great challenge for Delphie, but she’s breaking the rules.
Before she knows it, Delphie is transported back home. She sees no evidence in her apartment that she even died, so she goes about her routine schedule of caring for her mute elderly neighbor and off to the library before Merritt texts her, informing her that her experience wasn’t a dream and that the best thing she could do is ask for help.
Help comes from her neighbor, Cooper, whom she initially doesn’t get along with. They learn of possible Jonahs and try to track them down, which leads to some humorous situations, a new friend, and Delphie remembering being bullied in the past. Those memories still haunt her.
As the days pass and her time on Earth gets shorter, Cooper helps Delphie find the real Jonah. In repayment, Cooper asks Delphie to go to his parents’ house with him, which she actually enjoyed. In time, we learn of Cooper’s loss and how it impacted his life. Delphie gets more involved with him when he asks her to visit the Aquarium to meet his visiting aunt. Something happens that makes her realize the truth about who she really loves. It’s a difficult lesson to learn. We also learn that Cooper is a crime writer.
I really loved this book because it follows its own path. Imagine meeting someone in a laundromat in Heaven, and you are assigned a timed challenge. I know we’ve seen Heaven interact with mortals in a few movies in the past, but not like this. The book also explores the idea of more than one soulmate on Earth. The Love of My After Life was funny because of what Delphie had to go through, but I can’t imagine what it was like for her to realize what would happen if she wasn’t successful. She was under a lot of pressure.

I was given an e-book for an honest review.
“Fate has ac way of giving you exactly what you need when you need it”
Man, I loved this book, much more than I thought I would. Delphie just died and gets a second chance at life if she can get her “soulmate” to kiss her in the next ten days. What sounds like a regular romcom is a heartwarming love story about two characters who are relatable and grow as the story goes on. Definitely recommend checking it by out!
Wow, where do I even start with The Love of My Afterlife by Kirsty Greenwood? This book is a total treasure! I was immediately drawn into Greenwood’s enchanting world where the afterlife is anything but ordinary. Her storytelling is fresh, witty, and filled with so much heart. The story follows the protagonist as she navigates her new existence after death, offering a refreshing and original take on the afterlife. The characters are well-developed and the narrative is both engaging and thought-provoking. Greenwood’s witty writing style brings lightness to what could be a heavy subject, making the book not only entertaining but also deeply resonant.
What really makes this book shine is its perfect balance of humor and depth. I found myself laughing out loud at the quirky situations, pop-culture references, and clever dialogue, and then suddenly feeling all the feels in the more touching moments. Greenwood has a knack for making the afterlife feel both whimsical and profoundly meaningful.
I couldn’t put this book down, and when I finished, I felt a bit wistful and left me reflecting on life, love, and the things that truly matter.
Overall, The Love of My Afterlife is a must-read for anyone who enjoys a unique blend of comedy and heartfelt storytelling. Kirsty Greenwood has created something truly special with this book, and it undoubtedly deserves all five stars.
