This book was an absolute delight. I picked it up because I heard amazing things about it. And those high expectations were definitely met! I was invested from start to finish, and not only was it emotional it was also super funny? I laughed a lot while reading, which made the book even more appealing. Can definitely recommend you pick this up!
The Love of My Afterlife was such a joy to read. The premise was unique, the characters were fun, and the way Kirsty Greenwood tied everything together was incredibly well done. She took such a hard premise of death and grief, and turned it around to be something beautiful and hopeful. I devoured this beautiful story and it easily has become one of my favorites of the summer.
I highly recommend checking out The Love of My Afterlife.

Cute. A lot slow!!! Took forever looking for Jonah and she didn’t even end up with him!!! I know it’s a slow burn but I predicted it when he woke her up from her hamburger death
After choking on a burger, Delphie finds herself in a strange afterlife waiting room where she meets Jonah, a man she thinks is her soulmate. However, Jonah is there by mistake and sent back to Earth. Delphie is given the chance to get her life back if she can find Jonah and make a connection in ten days. Trouble is she doesn’t know his last name and London is a big place!
Before dying Delphie led purposefully closed off life after suffering from bullying in high school and abandonment by her father and then mother. You can’t be hurt if you don’t let anyone in, but in her mission to find Jonah she must ask for help and open herself up once again. In her quest she finds new wonderful friends, quirky and fun! She also gets some closure on the past. I rooted for Delphine every step of the way!
The Love of My Afterlife was a unique setup and the story pulled me in right away! It had some heartbreaking moments, but was tempered with fun, clever humor, and a surprisingly sexy romance, enemies-to-lovers variety. I absolutely loved it! I voluntarily read an advanced readers copy courtesy of the publisher. My thoughts and opinions are my own.

I had a feeling I would enjoy this book, as it was described as being similar to The Good Place and Dead Romantics, I loved that tv series and the book, but I was honestly stunned by how much I loved it.
The Love of My Afterlife was absolutely hilarious, like sitcom laugh out loud funny, but also deeply moving. If you’re looking for something to make you laugh, and then also cry, this is for you.
I loved Delphie, absolute mess that she was, from the very beginning. I’m not going to give any of the plot away because it’s absolutely full of surprises! I never could have guessed how it would end and a lot of the fun of this one is in the discovery. A total joy to read!
Delphie is dying of embarrassment, literally. She just chocked on a microwave burger. Of course she is in a sexy nightie & is now standing in front of the most gorgeous guy she has ever seen & he is talking to her. Then, of course, he is startled & is sent back to earth. When she is given the choice to go back to earth and try again with him and a new life, she jumps at the chance. Now, can she pull it off?
This was too cute. It felt like an Ashley Poston book! The ending did fall flat for me, with the beginning being soo strong.
“And human will? That’s even more powerful than anything we can conjure up here.” 💙
This book was everything! Thank you to @berkleypub for the #gifted ARC to read and review - I absolutely adored it! LOVE OF MY AFTERLIFE by Kirsty Greenwood was quirky and fun and so heartwarming.
Delphie is a bit of a recluse - working a job that makes ends meet, not really engaging in community or romantic relationships, and really unsure of her goals to even try to work towards them. And then she dies choking on a cheeseburger. Whoops.
During her reception to the afterlife, she makes a deal with an eccentric, romance book lover, afterlife therapist that if she can find her soulmate and get a kiss within ten days, she can return to living her life.
In those ten days, Delphie creates a fun, loving and supportive community of found family, falls in loves, and generally starts just living her life.
This book has so many references to other romance novels, a whole set of tropes - only to discovery another set of tropes in pursuit of true love, a touch of magical realism, and a bit of a lonely, anxious woman finding herself and her confidence.
This book just tickled my brain in the best way. When I wasn’t reading it, I was literally thinking about it and itching to pick it up in my free time. It just truly warmed my heart to have this curmudgeon of a character find love, community and joy.
And the romance? Everything. Everything about this book was just simply delightful.
LOVE OF MY AFTERLIFE is out now! (And anyone who enjoyed MY DEAD ROMANTICS will probably enjoy this one too!)

The Love of My Afterlife by Kirsty Greenwood
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Magical realism
Romantic comedy
Forced proximity
Opposites attract
Quirky characters
This is a such a cute story. I loved all the quirky characters. Mr Yoon is wonderful and Merritt was hilarious.
The storyline has a depth to it that you don't get with most romcoms. It also made me laugh several times which is rare with a book.
If you are looking for an easy but captivating read that is full of fun and laughs. This is the perfect book.
Thank you to Berkeley and Netgalley
This was a charming debut novel by Kirsty Greenwood. I loved the growth of Delphie throughout the book and the found family she made along the way. This book also had a nice balance or tender and funny moments as well which I enjoyed! Sofia Oxenham is a new to me narrator and she had me in stitches during the dinner scene when Delphie performed her poem to everyone. 🤣😩😭
I was so excited about this one, and it started out so clever and fun! It sort of faded into class rom-com trope, and I couldn't quite understand why the main character didn't have any sort of urgency throughout most of the book, but it was a really cute and easy read.
I loved this book so much! I found myself falling in love with ever character in Kirsty Greenwood's The Love of my Afterlife, but none more than our FMC Delphie. I was rooting for her so hard to live her life to the fullest, and oh I was not disappointed. The character growth was beautiful, the twists unexpected, and then ending more than earned. Thank you so much Berkley and NetGalley for my copy of this beautiful story. I cannot wait to tell everyone I know to read it!

“You make me laugh and you infuriate me. You make me want to be completely myself and to learn how to do that from you. You make it fun to be me.”
Thanks so much to @berkleyromance for the free book! #BerkleyPartner #Berkley
This book was incredibly absurd. It has been all over my Instagram feed lately.
In this book, Delphie chokes on a hamburger, and goes to the afterlife, but then is given a challenge that would allow her to remain on Earth.
Delphie must reconnect with a man she met for half a second in the afterlife. When she’s back on Earth he doesn’t know who she is.
THIS GIRL LITERALLY STALKS HIM. HE NEEDS TO FILE A RESTRAINING ORDER. IT’S CREEPY.
Also, I could not stand her. She was so annoying and wildly immature for her age.
I was really bored by like 60% but I was in too far to DNF.
The ending made me so angry too. I had an “are you kidding me” moment.
Now for things I liked. This book is wacky. It definitely makes it super entertaining and WTF funny at times. I also loved the character Mr. Yoon, his character was my favorite!
In my opinion, it’s perfect for fans of Katherine Center and the TV show “The Good Place”. I wanted to love this, but it just was not my cup of tea. I’ve seen plenty of positive reviews for it though, so there’s a chance you will adore it!

I love reading unique books!! Even as the book was nearing the end, I felt like there was no way all the loose ends could get tied up without rushing everything — I was so wrong!
Such a cute cliche written in such a unique way. There are so many possibilities for a happy ending, that the end is hard to anticipate and then there’s a huge curveball thrown in there that leaves your jaw on the ground. Anytime a book is based around a deadline, I’m always anxious about it until the goal or deadline is met, this book is no exception.
The romance is so sweet and their chemistry is wonderful.
It was fun seeing bookish things in here like romance tropes clearly described and relating the characters love stories to actual tropes. Overall, enjoyed this so much and couldn’t stop turning the page. A must read!

Content warning that stood out: person in a coma
I am calling it now, The Love of My Afterlife may end up being one of my very favorite books of 2024! I have not laughed as much as I did while reading this book and could not put it down!
Delphie is dead. As in, she finds herself in a waiting room (of sorts) in the afterlife, trying to figure out how she ended up there. By accident, she bumps into Jonah, the man of her dreams, who ends up in the afterlife waiting room by mistake. When Jonah is sent back to earth, Delphie strikes a bargain with her afterlife counselor, Merritt: if Delphie can find Jonah and get him to willingly kiss her in 10 days, she can return to the land of the living permanently. The catch? Delphie has no idea what his last name is or where in London he lives. As Delphie scours the city to find Jonah, she starts to learn that the “man of her dreams” may be a lot closer than she expected.
This book was everything! I have never read anything from Kirsty Greenwood, but you better believe I am going to read my way through her backlog! In fact, I loved this book so much, I already have a copy of it in print for my bookshelf.
The character development of Delphie was so beautifully done and the antics she got up to had me in stitches laughing. But the banter between her and her neighbor, Cooper, was my favorite part of the whole book! And Merritt! What a quirky character you couldn’t help but fall in love with.
If you love Sophie Cousens, Sarah Adler, Ashley Poston (specifically The Dead Romantics), and The Good Place (tv show), then this is the perfect book for you!
A HUGE thank you to Netgalley and Berkeley for the ARC!
At first I thought this was written by a man - the comedy was all Three Stooges stuff where we're supposed to laugh when someone gets hurt or lots of gross raunchy stuff like:
SWEAT - Why is she sweating all the time - while taking books home from the library, when she wakes up, when she's sitting to get her picture taken with Cooper - and then why does it need to be described in detail. And then just to make sure we get the joke, Mr Yoon is also sweaty to the point of fowl-smelling BO. Why?!
URINE + POOP - Why do we need to hear about the pee stain rolling its way down the sidewalk or the poop being picked up.
But then, I realized the author for some reason considers feces and bodily fluids as humorous because those are the only jokes she makes.
So it's possible, I'm not the right target audience for this since it's mostly toilet humor. And that's just not something I find appealing.
But aside from that, the book started out really strong for the first 10% and then it just went really south.
The main character is super unlikeable. She has no friends and then she treats everyone like garbage. And she complains about how much she hates London. And then when she does meet a nice person in the park, she tells her there is no way they are going to be friends and that they can only walk into an art class together and that's it.
The premise was so great - it had such promise.
I’m CRYING.
I’m a girl that reads for fun & escapism & fluffy romances. So it’s not often that i put myself in a position to really be touched by a book - but this one did. And i think it’s a book that all twenty-something’s need to read. Especially the introverted girlies like myself.
Delphies situation was extreme but i think a lot of us can relate to her story. Being unsure about what you want out of life. Being afraid of putting yourself out there. Making not choices because it’s what you want, but because it’s the safer option.
This book is a lovely reminder that life is beautiful even when it’s hard.
I loved this book.
I don't want to say too much because I don't want to spoil anything about this world or give anything away, but I will just speak on how this story made me feel. I think that Delphie is a great character who I relate to very much. She is stuck in her head and complicit in her mundane every day life and her life (or lackthere of) gives her a second chance to start being bold and having experiences. I liked how the afterlife was drawn in this story and the cast of supporting characters were wonderful. The found family aspect of this story really made me emotional, and while this book did have romance, it was not the only thing happening- but what I really enjoyed about the romance portion of this story is that it was very organic feeling and I think the chemistry between our love interests was very entertaining and delightful. It had the squee-factor. I think this novel is a feel-good and comforting read, and it will also give you some introspective feels. It definitely made me run the gamut with my emotions- I laughed out loud, cried, and smiled. I did not want it to end.
"The Love of My Afterlife" by Kirsty Greenwood is an absolute delight from start to finish. The premise itself hooked me—Delphie, our quirky protagonist, finds herself dead after an unfortunate microwaveable burger incident. Right off the bat, Greenwood sets a humorous and light-hearted tone throughout the book.
Delphie's post-mortem adventures are filled with charm and whimsy. Meeting a handsome stranger in her 'Shine Like a Star' nightie was hilarious and endearing. The chemistry between Delphie and this mysterious man is palpable, making their interactions a joy to read. Greenwood has a knack for creating accurate and relatable characters, even in extraordinary circumstances.
What I loved most about this book was Delphie's journey of self-discovery. Given the chance to return to earth and find her possible soulmate, she navigates the bustling city with a renewed sense of purpose. Her determination and vulnerability make her a character you can't help but root for. The story beautifully balances romance and personal growth as Delphie learns to listen to her heart and seek help when needed.
Greenwood's writing is witty and engaging, with plenty of laugh-out-loud moments. Yet, she also weaves in poignant themes about love, life, and the magic that often goes unnoticed daily. This blend of humour and heart makes for a truly captivating read.
Overall, "The Love of My Afterlife" is heartwarming and enjoyable. It's a reminder that love and second chances are worth pursuing, even in the afterlife. If you're looking for a feel-good read with a unique twist, this book should be at the top of your list.

The Love of My After Life by Kirsty Greenwood
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ / Pages: 380 / Genre: Romcom
Bullied in high school and practically abandoned by her mother, Delphie keeps to herself and avoids interacting with people. Until the day she chokes on a burger, dies, and wakes up in Nevermore, where she meets Merritt, her afterlife therapist and romcom aficionado. Delphie also runs into another newly dead person—Jonah, who Merritt says is one of Delphie’s five designated soulmates. So when Jonah is suddenly recalled back to the living, Merritt makes a deal with Delphie that if she can get Jonah to kiss her in ten days, then she can resume living. While trying to find Jonah and get him to kiss her, she realizes she can’t do it without some help and ends up actually talking and socializing with her neighbors and co-workers, and even makes friends out of total strangers.
I thoroughly enjoyed this fun, sweet romcom. I loved watching Delphie break out of her shell, make friends, and enjoy living. I especially liked that one particularly hot, grumpy neighbor, the fake dating game night, and the forced proximity incident at the inn with one bed. This romcom has it all.
Thank you, @NetGalley, @BerkleyRomance, and @Kristy_Greenwood for my gifted copy. I loved it!
