The blueprint of finesse and determination underlies the idea of the driving force within this framework of mystery.
Who killed Lisa DuVal and who gets the diner? Most of Lisa’s family and some of her employees have a reason to want her dead. Lots of secrets will be revealed. Family feuds, gambling debts, moonshine, hidden money, affairs, tax evasion. There is a lot of animosity between many of the characters, especially some of the family members. The story will keep you guessing.
Thank you to NetGalley for this amazing ARC!
Set in Indiana, Lisa, who is pretty much loved by the whole town, is found dead after an Easter Egg Hunt the town hosted in her own catering van. After the will is read, everyone in the family is surprised to hear who gets what, most of all, her own kids! Her daughter, Aubrey, thought she would inherit her mother’s diner, not her mom’s best friend.
As Sheriff Laurent launches into this investigation, she discovers secrets from Lisa’s family’s past that could contribute to her murder. She is even more startled whenever they find another dead body in the midst of already one murder investigation.
What a twisted murder mystery. Laurent is investigating Lisa's death, and, of course, the family must be ruled out first. This family is made up of the very dregs of the town. There is no one in this family that is above suspicion - and they all feel entitled to what was hers. Although Lisa was a fixture in the town and was almost universally liked, everyone has a motive in her death - for most, it is greed. What a sad lot of whiners and money grubbers. But it sure makes the case interesting as they all scramble for a piece of the estate. The characters are so well written that I physically yearned to smack them upside their heads! The twists and the back-stabbing are top-notch and make this a very thrilling read!
Thank you to NetGalley for the advanced copy of Cracks Beneath the Surface. This is my first read by Mary Ann Miller. Great twist and turns in murder of the small town's favorite diner owner. Very enjoyable read.
Good book! This book had a bit of everything! It had suspense, Action packed, intrigue, mystery, murder, revenge, a great who done it, great plot twist, great police work, and some crazy twists and turns! The storyline was very interesting and kept me glued to my Kindle!! I definitely recommend reading this book as it was well worth reading! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
This was such a good book. 4/5 stars was slight sad we didn’t get much out of her reconnecting with her daughter or if her daughter accepts her. I found the mystery really good and got me hooked. Loved how it got deeper and deeper into the mystery more unraveled. Also like it was not just the sheirff point of view but I feel like when it changes point of view there needs to be more indications and. It just left up to the reader to find out. The writing was really good and the plot was had a nice glow to it.
