This is a deeply heartbreaking coming of age story. It tell how the loss of a loved on can completely reshape the person you used to be. It shows that it is okay to live again after you say goodbye.
Wow, wow, wow!
This was a fantastic book. I have found myself another new author to follow in the future.
Silent Sister is an intriguing, gripping mystery that carries the reader deep into a sister’s love. Grace, the protagonist, frantically tries to recall how her sister, Maddy, disappeared. The way the characters and motives are developed in this story is very complex and detailed; no child’s whys or wherefores seem stable.
The story is wonderfully structured, with Grace’s amnesia adding suspense. This lack of memory adds another element to the mystery. We, just like Grace, are trying with her every step to reconstruct what happened in the affairs surrounding Maddy’s death. The author uses this to create suspense and thicken the plot, holding readers on tenterhooks.
The deeper we go into the story, the more everything we thought was Maddy and her disappearance is questioned. The author skillfully implants in our minds seeds of self-doubt so that we begin to doubt ourselves until the last page.
The prose is tense and attractive as the mystery deepens with each new clue. With skillful prose and imagery, the author draws an intense picture of a story that readers are swept headlong into.
This plot has more twists and turns than a mountain road, keeping you reading until dawn. Its surprise ending will leave you stunned. I loved this book, and I believe you will, too!

needles to say, one of the best YA thrillers i’ve ever read. especially if you’re a sister, this book will strike a deep chord with you. i loved how interior and emotional it was, im a huge fan of such character focused thrillers, and it balanced plot and emotion so well! had me on the edge of my seat. writing was very smooth and the characters very believable and grounded
Wow! I feel like I have been struck by lightning! After turning the last page, tears streaming down my face, I found myself sitting on the couch, staring at the wall, immersed in thoughts about this extraordinary book and its captivating protagonists, Grace and Maddy. Their story not only touched my heart but left an indelible emotional scar that lingers.
Some books go beyond the conventional five-star rating; they deserve a grading system that denotes their exceptional nature. This book unequivocally falls into the category of plus 5 stars—truly remarkable and deserving of extra praises, applause, adoration, and high recommendations. The two words that come to mind to describe it are intelligent and poignant.
As I delved into the last third of the book, I was both shocked, as if the rug had been pulled out from under me, and moved to tears, with my emotions flowing like a torrent that threatened to blur the words on the page. It felt like driving in a car on a rainy day when the windshield wipers suddenly cease to work.
The plot centers around a significant mystery: during a class trip, two sisters go missing. While Grace is found injured, her sister Maddy remains lost. The narrative explores the events of that fateful night when the sisters ventured down to the lakeside far from their accommodation. What transpired that night, driving them to leave their rooms?
Grace, grappling with amnesia concerning the incident, confronts the possibility that she might be responsible for her sister's plight. She, the popular girl and star volleyball player, holds a scholarship in a prestigious college, while Maddy, the silent sister and poet, lives in the shadow of her more extroverted sibling. Maddy struggles with feelings of being unseen, unloved, and overlooked, like a second-hand, invisible sister.
Both sisters harbor secrets, conforming to societal expectations dictated by their high school roles. As Grace becomes a person of interest, she must unravel the truth, digging into her sister's life to understand her own role and prove she's not the one who harmed Maddy. But what if she did? What if the harm inflicted is irreparable?
This book transcends the realm of merely being good—it is excellent and utterly fascinating! I applaud Megan Davidhizar until my palms ache. She has secured a spot on my auto-approved author list. Don't miss the chance to read this fantastic book; it deserves a prominent place on your TBR list and an immediate read.
Many thanks to Random House Children’s/Delacorte Press for generously sharing this fantastic book's digital reviewer copy with me in exchange for my honest opinions.

5 ⭐ would give it 10 if I could
First, I want to comment on the cover of SILENT SISTER. There's something about the cover that drew me in before I even knew what SILENT SISTER was about. This book spoke to me. I understand some of what Maddy and Grace were going through---minus the being attacked and possibly murdered---same grade as my sister, look like twins but she's eleven months older, her being the one who easily made friends, etc.. I related to this in that way. But off of the sappy stuff: SILENT SISTER was...I don't know how to describe it...suspenseful, powerful, and heartbreaking. I was immersed in the story, picturing everything in my head as it happened. That's how good the detail and writing was in the debut from Megan Davidhizer. I was pulled into this gripping read from the beginning from the dual pov timeline to the thoughts and feelings of the characters. SILENT SISTER is what one would call nail-biting, thrilling, and an edge-of-your-seat read. I absolutely loved this book. SILENT SISTER was an emotional roller coaster. My heart broke for both Maddy and Grace in the beginning and the again in the end when that plot twist occurred (I didn't see that coming). Definitely an instant buy author in the future.
What I Liked About It:
*the ending plot twist
*the writing
*the overall story
Thank you to net galley for providing an ARC for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this title. It was a fast read and I couldn't wait to see what would happen next. Told in dual perspectives, the book never feels bogged down when switching back and forth between Grace and Maddy.
Although you may see the ending coming (there are clues along the way), I felt satisfied with the conclusion.
Highly recommend for those who like mystery with some sibling rivalry thrown in.
This is a wonderfully gripping, grounded thriller. The characters are so relatable and alive, and the twists are unexpected and will keep readers turning pages, unable to put the book down. Fans of Karen McManus will love this one!!
This book is AMAZING. It's one of my new favorite thrillers because it's gripping and suspenseful, which is exactly what you want in a thriller, but it's also full of heart!!! The dual timeline keeps the pace tight, the characters are relatable, and the unfolding mystery is absolutely gripping. I loved every twist and turn in this story, and the ending blew me away! You will NOT see that coming!
A great YA read. I loved the dual perspective and alternating timelines. The story definitely unfolded in a way that I did not see coming!
