This was adorable! It was a quick read and the characters were very relatable! Their story was so cute and sweet. The writing style was super easy to read! Natalie was hilarious and I loved watching her relationship with Finn grow. Finn is your classic grumpy mmc but it was done well! I loved watching his character develop as well.
Thank you netgalley for the eARC!
Okay, wow! This book totally took me by surprise and I absolutely loved it! I'll admit that in the beginning the FMC, Natalie, was a little much for me. But I clearly misjudged her, as do most of the people in her life. I was not expecting this story to be so funny and adorable and yet also touch so graciously on heavier topics such as anxiety and losing loved ones. I really enjoyed the AT setting, the grumpy/sunshine trope, and all of the challenges that Natalie and Finn must overcome. This was such a fun romcom and I would love to see this as a movie. Highly recommend!
Thank you to Random House Children's, Delacorte Press, Netgalley, and Kaitlyn Hill for the digital ARC.
This book was a cute, quick summer read. I loved how positive the main character was and how optimistic she was, even when things didn’t go her way. This is the kind feel good story I needed while on vacation!!
The tension & banter between Finn & Natalie was so good & this was such a cute, fun & emotional story. The book touches on subjects like anxiety & grief and I though the author did a great job representing that in the story. Finn & Natalie are the complete opposite of each other & didn’t have the best start but it was so fun to see that change & their relationship flourish with each obstacle they faced.
The only thing I wish this book had was his POV, since it’s told entirely from Natalie’s POV. I would’ve loved to know what was going on through Finn’s mind during certain scenes but other than that I really enjoyed this!
Thank you Kaitlyn Hill & NetGalley for the ARC!
This was a super cute YA romance with a unique twist on reality shows and forced proximity. I'm also a sucker for a grumpy/sunshine romance, and this definitely delivered! And though this was YA it dealt with some heavier topics like grief and anxiety.
Feeling like an outcast in her own family, Natalie decides to risk it all and apply for a spot on the reality television show Wild Adventures. Even though she prefers skin care to dirt smeared cheeks, and her idea of roughing it is a hotel with an unstable wifi connection. After being accepted on the show, she is paired with Finn, who is struggling with his own family issues. Though the two dislike each other, eventually the forced partnership for the show, becomes something a little more real.
Wild About You is set to be published on May 21, 2024. Thank you to Random House Children's, Delacorte Romance, NetGalley and the author for the digital advanced copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I loved this book with all of my heart! I was already talking about with all my romance reading coworkers, before I had even finished it, telling them that they need to pick it up as soon as it comes out!
From the beginning, I could immediately connect with Natalie and her anxieties, as someone who has struggled with having an anxious disorder since I was young. I just hope that I am lucky enough to have a wonderful partner in my life, like Finn.
The love that they have for each other warms my heart, just thinking about it. Getting to see them grow together and bring out the absolute best in each other.
This is the perfect book for anyone that wants to dip their toe into the romance category and the will find themselves loving it fir ever, I wood bet money on it!
This book was so much fun! My 2nd book in a row about a reality show - who knew??
Natalie & Finn are the exact people you'd want to see on a reality show like in the book. They're hilarious, smart, and flawed, like only the best people are.
If you like "The Amazing Race" and any dating reality show then you should love this book. I definitely recommend it!
Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
College is not what Natalie expected and she is really struggling. Her battles with anxiety have affected her grades and her scholarships. Desperate to find a way to pay for college, she auditions for a reality show about hiking the Appalachian Trail. It's the college student version, with a $100,000 scholarship as the prize. She is paired with the very grumpy Finn. Fortunately Finn is an experienced hiker and backpacker. As they make their way through the challenges, they learn to work together, opening up to each other, and eventually becoming friends. This is a fun romance/survival book with a lot of sweet moments. It is a great summer romance. For grades 9 & up.
This one took me a little bit to get into, but overall I thought it was a cute book! I definitely think I would’ve enjoyed it a little more if it was dual pov.
Thank you NetGalley for the arc!
I liked this book just not as much as I'd hoped that I would. I loved the wilderness setting, but wanted more tension and sparks between the two main chracters.
This is a sweet, fun story. It’s filled with adventure, emotions, and fun.
Natalie and Finn are grouped together as partners on a wild adventure reality tv show. They seem to be opposites and have quite the rocky start. It is so much fun watching them navigate the challenges, get to really know each other, and form such a sincere bond.
This story touches on self-doubt, anxiety, and loss and is infused with wit and humor and great emotions. It’s a cute, sweet story with great characters and a beautiful setting.
Calling all reality TV fans and camping enthusiasts, pick this up!! Kaitlyn Hill writes the most fun YA rom-coms, and this is no exception! Following Natalie and Finn as they partner up to take on the Appalachian Trail for a reality TV show, the book is fast-paced, filled with wilderness adventures, and will make you chuckle for sure. Kaitlyn Hill gives her characters an absolute magical sense of humor, and I love seeing them interact with each other; honestly it's the best part of her books, and her books have so much to enjoy! I loved seeing them hike the AT, especially because Natalie isn't a camping enthusiast to begin with, so it was fun to see her get started. Their relationship started out a little rocky, just a hint of enemies-to-lovers, but I didn't think it was necessarily justified? The animosity just felt a little weak in terms of development, but it's not long before they're getting along and falling in looooove aweeeeee. There's also discussion of deceased family members, anxiety, and difficult relationships with parents, all of which were handled well. This was a great time overall!
Wild About You is a cute story about a girl with no business being on a reality TV show about roughing it while hiking the Appellation Trail. But Natalie is so desperate for the $100,000 scholarship money she'll do just about anything including roughing it in the wild.
Hopeful for a good experience, things don't start out well when she runs into Finn who looks at her like she's as out of place as she is. Add in another contestant, Alli (codename Enemi), who looks at Natalie like she's worse than the gum on the bottom of her shoe, and Natalie's new anxiety starts to spike.
During the first challenge, Natalie ends up teamed with Finn for the remainder of the competition - joy. Neither is thrilled to be partnered, but Natalie is ever the optimist and tries to wear her partner down while remaining optimistic, friendly, and cheerful.
The pair proceed on the most awkward partnership in history with Finn barely speaking more than 3 words to her at any given time until about 35% into the book. It was a lot of Natalie stuck in her head.
Listen, this book was cute. It almost makes me want to go hiking the rough trails myself. (Keyword, ALMOST.) And I enjoyed it. But for me, the pacing was off. It took too long for Natalie Finn to have any sort of relationship. The key moment that threatens their new relationship happens WAY too quickly after said relationship even came into existence. And then it ended.
If you can look past the pacing issues with the romance that I had, this is an enjoyable book that's less of a traditional romance and more of a girl on an adventure dealing with her personal baggage in a really uncomfortable situation. And the ending was super enjoyable.
I’ve always enjoyed the one bed trope but one tent? Throw in some grumpy sunshine and forced proximity. Finn and Natalie are so stinking cute. I love the slow burn between them throughout the competition. I’m definitely going to be reading more Kaitlyn Hill ASAP
I enjoyed this well written and entertaining novel. It was quick paced and lighthearted, but also explored deeper topics including managing grief, anxiety, and today's social media-driven environment. The depictions of Natalie's and Finn's experiences with these issues were accurate and approachable.
I liked the secondary characters as well and would have liked to see a little more development of those relationships. I think I felt that way because the plot and storyline flew, I wish it could have lasted just a little bit longer :)
I enjoyed this quick read and will be checking out the author's prior titles.
Thanks to Random House and Netgalley who provided this eARC in exchange for an honest review.
Natalie Hart may just be out of her mind. She's never really been super outdoorsy, but after freshman year of college when she needs extra money to cover tuition, she decides to apply for Wild Adventures, a reality show based on hiking and surviving in the wilderness. To her amazement, she's chosen, and one step closer to the prize money she desperately needs to make her acting dreams come true. However, this season has a new twist: She'll be paired with another competitor and they'll need to work together to win. No big deal, Nat's a girl's girl and gets along with almost everyone. Except, apparently, her new partner, the gruff-but-knowedgeable Finn Markum, who doesn't take her seriously. After a rough start, Natalie and Finn learn to trust each other as they work through the challenges on the Appalachian Trail, managing day after day to avoid the chopping block. Not only do they realize they make a good team, they might just win this thing.
This is the second book I've read by Kaitlyn Hill, the other being Love From Scratch. I've LOVED both of them! Her stories are just so dang cute, and very teen appropriate. There were a few small, surprise crossover characters from Love From Scratch, which was fun. I just loved the grumpy/sunshine trope, and this was a relatively light, sweet, cozy romance. Teen girls will love it!
I received this ARC courtesy of NetGalley, in return for my honest opinion and review.
Such a cute read! Being from the south, and not far from the foothills of the Appalachian mountains, I loved the setting! The characters were so nicely written. Natalie was funny and very relatable. I loved how everything played out. Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Children's for this e-book ARC!
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC. However, at about 7% in I basically DNF as I wasn’t attracted to the characters or the plot. The writing style isn’t for me and it wasn’t captivating to continue on.
This is my first book by Kaitlyn Hill and I must say, YES PLEASE! I absolutely loved this young romance about a high-maintenance college freshman who gets teamed up with an outdoorsy, quiet-type guy as a partner in a reality show to brave the wilderness on the Application Trail. She is totally out of her element and both are dealing with past baggage and anxiety but they overcome and face their fears and fall head over heels for each other and become more than partners. Being a fan of these types of reality shows, the author got it right on everything from the challenges and excitement of the competition. I am a middle school librarian, and while the romance is relatively tame, I'd recommend this book for the romance fan in high school. It's just a little too subjective and the characters are too old for middle school.
A great ya romance! The concept of participating in a reality show was super fun. Natalie and Finn had great character development between the two of them. The anxiety representation was also great to see. It was done very well.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC!
