What’s not to love about a grumpy sunshine, forced proximity and only one tent story about college students hiking a portion of the Appalachian Trail in hopes of winning a scholarship? Natalie and Finn are randomly paired up together as partners in the reality hiking/adventure show and it’s clear from the get go that they are two different people. But once they get past their initial impressions and learn that they actually share something in common their attraction towards each other doesn’t seem so taboo anymore and something they can explore.

This is a fun easy to read story that also handles some difficult topics with ease. The topic of grief is something both of them have experienced in different ways and I think once they had that conversation together it created a more solid foundation for their partnership and relationship. I think Natalie and Finn both brought out the best in each other through their own unique ways and made a great team. If YA romance is your jam then definitely add this to your tbr.

Thank you publishers and @netgalley for this eARC in exchange for my honest feedback.

This was such a cute little cozy romance story, which was a complete 180 from the YA horror that I reviewed earlier today. Wild About You is a fun love story about two people falling for each other after being paired up for a survivor-like reality TV show. The main character, Natalie, is 19 years old and in college, so I would probably classify this as a new-adult novel. There are no sex scenes, so it’s also a clean romance.

As someone who reads all ages, there were times where I felt like certain plot lines lended themselves towards spicier scenes, but I also understand that spice while on reality TV wouldn’t really make sense. Additionally, I know that it can be difficult for readers to find spice-free romances amongst all of the popular titles that are thrown around, particularly those on TikTok, so this would be a great option for them. I’m pretty sure the other novel from Kaitlyn Hill that I’ve read (Love From Scratch) is also clean.

The book itself is very lighthearted, with most of the drama coming from miscommunications and the main character’s struggle with her anxiety disorder. The male love interest, while a bit prickly in the beginning, is a huge cinnamon roll at heart, so watching these two confront their feelings for each other was innocently heartwarming. It was a very quick read (finished in one seating) and is the perfect cozy book for you to escape to when you’re feeling the stress of the outside world.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC of this novel. 4.5/5 stars.

Slightly late getting this read, but OH MY GOD. I loved the last romcom I read by this author and this was no different. I really liked this one because it, quite literally, also called out all the tropes and romance reads and just like....her and Finn? SWOON. Also, the premise is perfect for summer. I loved how it turned from grumpy-sunshine into adorable banter and finally the moment where I was like OMGGGGGG.

And besides being a cute, adorable, witty romcom, it also deals with grief and has fantastic anxiety rep...including HOW TO BE A PARTNER for someone with anxiety.

Also, just...IYKYK...FINN'S LETTER. **cries**

Anyways, this was adorable and so cute and the banter and the jokes and the premise? ugh, so good. TBH I only deducted 1/2 a star because sometimes the game element was a bit underdeveloped and also...yes, every now and then the FMC was a TAD annoying...but also she was playing a trope and acknowledged herself doing that so....

This was such a sweet way to close out the month! I loved this YA romance more than I thought I would, instantly falling head over heels for Natalie and Finn.

Natalie is hilarious and outgoing, a must when you’re a theatre girlie. She joins this adventure for the prize money, not realizing she’s going to gain a lot more from the experience. She remains tough in the face of challenges, both in her mind and on the trail. Pushing on, she shows she’s more than just a pretty face.

Finn is the adorable grump who is misunderstood from the start. He may not put his best foot forward with Natalie, but his grief overshadows his compassionate side. Once he realizes she’s a soft place to land, his sweet and funny personality shines. He’s the encouraging romantic partner everyone strives to find!

While I normally love dual POV, this was a great case where single POV worked better. The build up we get of Natalie developing a crush was just so adorable and reminded me of being that age, and the anticipation of Finn revealing his feelings was perfect.

Things I loved: the nature puns, the genuine anxiety and grief, cute nicknames, mini golf, the pop culture monologue (iykyk), and so much more.

I’d love to explore the side characters too, I feel like they had interesting stories to share. I already know I’ll be grabbing anything else by Kaitlyn!

This book was so fun and the perfect summer read!

Not sure if it is technically categorized as YA, but our main characters are in college and are embarking on a Survivor meets Amazing Race style reality series set in the Appalachian mountains to earn scholarship money, and it was such a unique storyline and I am obsessed.

I'm a sucker for camping romances or even ones set in National Parks (I have very unique trope interests apparently) so when I read the synopsis, I had to read it. Wild About You absolutely delivered on everything I could want in an outdoorsy romance: just-one-tent, omg-you-almost-died, long-conversations-on-the-trail, and your-pheromones-drive-me-wild.

Natalie and Finn could not be more opposite, yet they work well together in the most extreme of circumstances and watching them both open up to each other, while bonding over similar traumas, was beautiful. Watching them navigate the odd world of outdoor adventure filming for a reality show was so fun, and getting to see the secondary characters compete made it feel like you were truly immersed in this reality show.

The audio was also incredible, so if you are into that, I highly recommend. The narration was wonderful and the voice acting was so easy to listen to.

This was a cute and easy romance to read. Finn was a great grump that ended up not really being a grump. Natalie and him were great together and I enjoyed the outdoor/adventure aspect to it. I loved the very real mental health representation.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy.

This book took a while to get going but was worth the wait. We know from the beginning that Natalie and Finn will fall for each other the question is HOW they will go from a seemingly incompatible mismatch to lovers- which is every romance writer's challenge. Their eventual "hook up cute" on the closed mini-golf course was unique, great fun and hella hot. Occasionally I got frustrated with the pacing and Natalie's anxiety-addled erroneous conclusions, but anxiety can be just that - frustrating. I liked that the lovers has loss in common, and the way they opened up to each other was touching and believable.

I LOVED this book! I was in the mood for a romance book with some twists and this was perfect! I love the reality tv aspect, as well as the obvious grumpy-sunshine trope, but the author did such an amazing job tying this all together while still also focusing on deeper issues like Natalie's anxiety and learning to accept things and cope. The Appalachian Trail is close to where I live and I grew up hiking it all the time (I requested the book as soon as I saw McAfee Knob) and reading such a cute idea for a show on the trail while falling in love really made some dream of mine a reality! This book was great!

Cute summer romance featuring a teen wilderness challenge. I liked the pairing of Natalie and Finn, they're a grump/sunshine couple forced to work together and overcome obstacles to win scholarship money. The story is well paced and jumps right into the woods and the friendships Natalie made throughout were super cute.

Another hit YA romance from Hill!

I voluntarily read and reviewed this book. All opinions are my own. Thank you to Delacorte Press and NetGalley for the copy.

(rating based on vibes and my feelings!!)

Y’all. This book has probably altered the trajectory of my life, if I’m being real with you. I have so many feelings (in a good way… I think).

WILD ABOUT YOU follows Natalie in the summer after her freshman year of college after she is chosen to compete in a reality TV competition in the Great Outdoors. She has been dealing with tough stuff and really needs to win the competition so she can pay her tuition, but she’s… not very athletic. Enter Finn, her grouchy new partner who is very outdoorsy but not very friendly. Natalie has more than enough sunshine to counteract his grumpy for the cameras, and she knows this is perhaps the performance of her life. But can she stave off her anxiety and be the badass she knows she can be… and maybe even embrace the romance that waits around the corner?

Easy stuff first: the plot is absolutely SO fun! The grumpy-sunshine comes in a little heavy at first, but the dynamic works SO well here. Watching the reality show plot by being in the eyes of the participants was fun, and Hill plays on the realities behind “reality” TV, which I loved. This book is fast-paced and dives deeply into the characters in a way that is so sweet and lovely, GAH. And again, the ROMANCE is so sweet and precious and there are so many squeal-worthy moments.

The hard stuff: the anxiety representation is so strong. That is NOT a criticism, but maybe a trigger warning?? It was beautiful and really impactful for me, to the point that I cried way more than I expected to. Look, this may just be a me-thing, as someone who is exploring the possibilities of her own mental health. Regardless, Natalie’s character development pierced me in a way that hurt but that I knew was GOOD.

So I recommend this contemporary romance to my anxious girlies who want to find love as they fight to love themselves. This story is wonderful, and I’m so so glad I read it.

I couldn't connect to the FMC at all. The premise of the story was intriguing but the way it was composed didn't come together. There were some sweet moments but overall it needed to be less cliche and more depth.

Wild About You is a grumpy/sunshine, forced proximity, only one tent kind of a romance. I really enjoyed that it wasn't insta-love, which can happen in YA novels a bit.
Natalie is the black sheep of her family struggling with the loss of her grandmother and worried about paying for college. Finn is an avid outdoorsman struggling with the loss of his father. The two are teamed up in an Outdoors/Camping reality show and have to figure out how to work together.
What I really enjoyed about the novel is it's a great start for my summer reading with hiking, camping, and outdoors activities. The emotional range of both the book and characters was a bit unexpected but so good overall. I found this book sweet and a fast read and just the breath of warm summer air after a gloomy winter. Great Job!

Just finished reading Wild About You! This book was so fun and I loved the characters.

Natalie is fantastic. She’s funny, warm, and trying to figure out life at 19 . I loved that the story captured the challenges of navigating young adulthood, especially when you might not have the strongest family support. She was FUNNY! I laughed so much.

And, Finn. He’s this gruff-but-sweet guy who adds a great dynamic to the story. Their banter is hilarious, and the way they communicate and work through issues feels realistic and refreshing. No unnecessary drama here!

The setting on the Appalachian Trail was really cool. The author did a great job bringing it to life, and while the reality show element played a role, it never took away from the characters themselves. It just added another layer of interest!

Overall, this book is a great pick-me-up. It’s a sweet romance with relatable characters facing real-life challenges. Plus, it definitely fed my wanderlust for the Appalachian Trail (which I also dream of hiking someday!).

If you’re looking for a fun read with great characters and a touch of adventure, check out Wild About You.

Wild About You was a fun, very easy to read young adult adventure style novel with two completely likable main characters. Kaitlynn Hill did a very good job at contrasting her easy breezy style of writing with some real-life problems such as anxiety, panic attacks, and parental issues. The game show format made it easy for the reader to connect to all of the cast of characters while at the same time rooting for our favorite main character duo.

There were several things I liked about Wild About You. These young characters had real-life issues that a reader could easily identify with, the growth of Natalie and Finn’s relationship was steady and sweet, and the competition. Actually that last thing was probably my favorite because I’m a reality show competition fan. All of these things made this story interesting, light, but with a bit of depth- adding character to the right parts of the story. I thought it was very well done!

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. It was so entertaining, full of many laugh out loud moments, making new friends, learning new skills, and falling hard for each other along the way. Their adventures and competitions are taxing from day to day but as they grow more dependent upon each other their feelings for each other grow. There is so much more to this sunshine/ grumpy trope than I thought there would be going in on my first book by Kaitlyn Hill and I fell hard for these two opposites.

This is Natalie and Finn’s story

Natalie and Finn are paired up together by finding the same color backpacks on the first day of the Wild Co-EdVentures reality show. They will have to make their way along a 170 mile stretch of the Appalachian Trail, competing each day for a chance to win $100,000 in scholarship money for each partner of the winning pair.

I could totally relate to Natalie and her lack of any experience in the great outdoors. But I felt that to be 19 years old and to be trying to help her situation by going on this competition was so brave, especially with anxiety and without any support system at home except for her friends. Meeting handsome, grumpy, Finn is her savior in this competition. He had it going on with most of the challenges and his outdoor experience saved them for sure. But it was the banter between them and their communication that really made me swoon for Finn.

“It’s a kiss that shows everyone else what we already knew—that we won long before we got to the finish line.”

There was no room for anything but good vibes inside me, while I read this story. It was so full of happiness, desire, attraction, relief, all bubbling together. From them climbing trees, coming face to face with a black bear, crossing a string bridge, it was their ability to bring out the best in each other. If you are a fan of camping or not, you will love this fabulous adventure!

Wild About You by Kaitlyn Hill is a contemporary young adult romance novel with engaging storyline and relatable characters. The book follows two college students, Natalie Hart and Finn Markum, as they compete on a wilderness survival competition show set on the Appalachian Trail. Here's a brief review and the top 5 reasons to read the book:

Book Review:
The novel has been described as a grumpy-sunshine teen romance where the trail to true love doesn't always come with a map. It features endearing relationship-building between the main characters, charming readers with their dynamic. Also, we have such amazing supporting characters and I loved the group they formed.

Some humor in the book may feel a bit corny, but the themes of overcoming grief, understanding mental health challenges, and believing in one's self-worth propel the story forward.

Top 5 Reasons to Read 'Wild About You':
1. Relatable Protagonist: Natalie Hart is loud, unfiltered, and unapologetically herself, making her a character many readers can resonate with.

2. Dynamic Relationship: The friction and flirtation between Natalie and Finn provide an entertaining read as they navigate their partnership in the wilderness.

3. Important Themes: The book touches on significant issues such as anxiety, grief, and self-worth, offering depth beyond the romance.

4. Adventure and Competition: The wilderness survival competition provides an exciting backdrop for the story, adding an element of adventure.

5. Humor and Heart: Despite some corny jokes, the novel is filled with moments that will make you laugh and tug at your heartstrings.

Overall, Wild About You is a heartwarming read that combines romance, personal growth, and adventure, making it a compelling addition to the young adult genre.

This is one I was excited to read, I had wanted to read another book by this author, and this was perfect with some of the other “survivor” type of books I’d been reading at this same time. When I started, at first I was unsure if I would be able to connect to Natalie as she talked about bringing all her makeup with her. However her insecurities and the way she kind of babbled when she was nervous at times did remind me so much of myself that I quickly connected with the rest of her. Also Finn at first seemed like someone I might not be able to get to like as his dislike of her seemed a little over the top at first.

The author turned it all around though as the two of them had such hilarious banter and we were soon given a new enemy named Alli, or Enemi as Natalie called her in her head. As the adventure progressed along the Appalachian Trail, we got to know more and more about both Natalie and Finn, and the enemies to lovers romance trope was completely perfectly done. The different tasks they had to compete in were so much fun, so original at times, and some so hard I know I could not have done them! The other contestants also either grew on me as I read, or the enemy status was cemented again and again.

I love how the author showed the growth of Natalie through the trip, and how her growth not only affected Finn, but how he was a big part of her learning more about herself and being able to accept things she’d panicked over before. The relationship between the two and how it developed was so realistic in my opinion. Not just perfect all of a sudden everything is okay. So many more awkward moments, I mean they’re hiking in the wilderness for goodness sake. But also a lot of sweet moments that totally won me completely over to Finn by the end. I mean at one point he had one of the best lines: “I accept your lack of apology.” He knew how to deal with Natalie’s dramatic personality, and give the sarcasm and snark right back, in a good way!

The ending of the competition was so satisfying, even with its ups and downs. And I like that while some problems may have been solved or at least figured out how to deal with, it wasn’t like all of a sudden Natalie’s whole life was perfect. Her anxiety was still there, she’d just learned that she had to deal with it and ask for help. She still didn’t have the perfect parents. And she had to figure out a long distance relationship. But hey, she did figure out how to handle a black bear, and oh my gosh, that was one of my favorite parts of the story!

I hope to read more by this author in the future, and really hope I get a chance to go back and at least read the one I wanted to before, Love From Scratch.
