The Cat in the Hat has returned, and brings more mischief in this stunning graphic novel. The fish isn’t thrilled to see them and has a feeling they only want to cause trouble. Things take an interesting turn though when the Cat promises to do something nice for them, and delivers on this promise. Just when things are reaching peak fun, it must come to an end. Fans of the Cat in the Hat will want to give this graphic novel a read.

I was interested at the premise of the expansion of the Dr. Seuss universe. This graphic captures the essence of the tricky feline, although it skips along at a faster, slightly frenetic pace. Doesn't really add much to the world beyond adapting the characters for graphic readers. Will appeal to fans of Pizza and Taco, Elephant and Piggie, etc.

This was such a cute graphic novel of a cat in the hat story and exactly what I would think Dr. Seuss would have written. The Cat in the Hat gets up to mischief as usual this time making the house into a giant pool for the fish to be able to play with everyone and while he promised not to make a mess again he for sure did. The illustrations were great and this was a fun fast read.

Thanks to Random House Graphic and Netgalley for the complimentary copy of this book. All opinions in this review are my own.

Sally and her brother are enduring a normal afternoon of chores when the Cat in the Hat comes for a visit! The Fish (Sally’s pet) is less than enthusiastic to welcome the Cat. Of course, the Cat decides that Thing 1 and Thing 2 are the perfect companions to help with the boring tasks. Can they manage to clean the house before their parents return? Or, will the Cat finally manage to cause an irreversible catastrophe?

A simple graphic novel with clear panels that is perfect for readers who are ready to move to chapter books and graphic novels. The familiar characters and antics will appeal to young readers. 4 stars, Grades 1-3.

I received an electronic ARC from Random House Children's through NetGalley.
Some will appreciate this restyled Cat in the Hat more than I did. The artwork felt clunky, and, yes, that is a deliberate style. The storyline was rough but younger readers will appreciate the humor. Baltazar is an incredibly talented writer/artist but this felt like a poor mesh with Dr. Seuss's iconic character.

This is a Children's Graphic Novel. This book is cute and fun to read. This book is fast paced with a ton of fun and cute things. I really loved the fish character. The pictures are bright and make the story come to life. I received an ARC of this book. This review is my own honest opinion about the book like all my reviews are.

I'm sure it will appeal to children and would be a good early reader with illustrations that could encourage reluctant readers. It just seemed like a blatant attempt to hit the graphic novel market with The Cat In the Hat. It wasn't anything original or new, just The Cat In the Hat in graphic novel form instead of as an early reader picture book. It just didn't seem necessary and it wasn't a book I thought my kids would want to read over and over again.

Oh man this was not very good. I should acknowledge that I've never been a huge Dr. Seuss fan -- I didn't grow up really loving his books, and it's hard for me to catch that same fervor as an adult. All of that aside, this graphic novel felt like it was almost based more on the (very bad) movie than the original book. I also felt like it should have rhymed? Art Baltazar did a good job bringing some energy to the panels, and I'm glad that he stuck with his style rather than imitating Seuss, but that was my only highlight.
But listen, this book will be popular, so I'll still buy for my library.

I couldn't finish this, but read enough to warrant a review. I am shocked that the estate of Dr. Seuss allowed you to use his name on this and the idea of Cat in a Hat. It didn't feel like the Cat at all in appearance or in text structure. The lack of rhyming was the final straw.
