Where do I even begin with this book?! I thought the Happy Place would stay my favorite Emily Henry book for a while, but then along comes "Funny Story." Emily's books just keep getting better and better! I loved everything about this book. The romance and main characters were so well done. I loved that the female main character was a librarian. Yay! I really enjoyed reading about all the different library patrons and that all of those scenarios absolutely do happen! I also really enjoyed the found family aspect of this books as well. They way Emily described the setting and all of the different places that the characters visited, I could absolutely picture it all in my mind, and totally made me want to visit this town! This is a must read for romance fans, and it's even a great book for those just getting into romance. I can't wait to recommend this book to patrons!

The Queen deserves her crown. My favorite EH so far by far. So, so heartfelt and tapped into a lot of feelings that will likely be familiar to millennials/ those trying to start over in their 30s.

Emily Henry never misses! This one is one of my favorites of hers. It’s funny, light hearted but with the depth we’ve come to expect from her books. Highly recommend!

I worship the ground this woman walks on. Emily Henry just keeps writing banger after banger.

Funny Story follows Daphne, who after moving halfway across the country to start her new life is ruthlessly dumped by her fiancé (Peter) for his childhood best friend (Petra). With no friends and nowhere else to stay, Daphne finds herself having no other choice than to cohabitate with Miles, Petra’s ex-boyfriend (whom she dumped for Daphne’s fiancé).

I laughed, I cried, I blushed. Emily Henry writes books that are so deeply human that you cannot help but find yourself in her character’s core wounds. Her books hold a certain comforting quality to them that makes you feel like you are returning to a favourite read or movie every time you pick up a new one.

Undeniably funny and cinematic, Funny Story is the romcom of 2024. As a book lover/seller myself, I could not help but feel like this one was plucked out just for me. Thank you, a million times over, for an arc of what may already be my favourite book of the year.

One million stars!! To no ones surprise i absolutely loved this book. I truly believe Emily Henry can do no wrong and everything she writes is golden. Every book i have read of hers has always been a stand out, and in some way shape or form has impacted me. Her writing is flawless and her characters are some of the most relatable & raw personalities i have ever read. It is no secret that Beach Read is one of my favorites books of all time and January Andrews is a soul character, but i have to say Funny Story and Daphne Vincent are right next to them fighting for that #1 spot.

Funny Story made me giggle, kick my feet, ugly cry and reflect on who i am as a person. If at any point you felt personally victimized by this book raise your hand??? i will definitely be mailing my therapy bill to EmHen. But in all seriousness this book is perfect. It made me feel every. single. emotion. and i loved every second of the journey.

Daphne: wow. what a character. Daphne was created for the Archer girls. Those who have always felt taken advantage, underappreciated and like they have never been enough. While reading this book it felt as tho somehow Emily Henry opened my brain and my heart, took parts of my essence and my soul and created Daphne. Her character is so relatable in so many ways. The way she fears people leaving her, how much she overthinks, and wholeheartedly believes it is just a matter of time before someone leaves. How deeply she feels, how caring and kind she is to her core, and how above all she just wants to be loved and chosen. Her character development was phenomenal. Her inner dialogue was so vulnerable. Daphne is a complex character and i was so proud of her strength and growth.

Miles was the perfect MMC. He was sweet, caring, adventurous, full of love, selfless and desperately wanted to feel valued and seen. His character was so well done, i was completely swooned by him and his dialogue made me melt. The way he made sure Daphne felt secure, safe and at peace. They way he reminded her how beautiful and amazing she is. The way he was absolutely obsessed with her but so terrified of the future and the unknown. EVERYTHING about him was stunning. Emily Henry is known for how incredibly she writes MMC's and Miles was no exception.

This book is everything you need. It is romantic while having depth and complexity, it's funny, spicy, messy, the banter is SO good, their chemistry is electric, the tension is to die for and their relationship is so beautiful. I can't wait for people to fall in love with Daphne & Miles, the world needs to know them!

Read if you love: roommates, friends to lovers, fake relationship, opposites attract, forced proximity, small town, she's a librarian, making their exes jealous, complicated family relationships

I have a theory: Emily Henry sold her soul to the Devil in exchange for supernatural literary prowess. In no other context does her ability to bring a story full circle by shredding and then mending your heart make sense.

Daphne Vincent’s picture-perfect life with her fiancé, Peter, is shattered when he returns from his bachelor party and announces that he is in love with Petra, his practically perfect childhood best friend. With only a week to vacate Peter’s house before the new lovebirds return, Daphne moves in with Miles Nowak, Petra’s ex-boyfriend who’s also reeling from the breakup. A couple of months later, their shared misery and anger at receiving Peter & Petra’s wedding invitation leads to the terrible, drunken decision to RSVP. From this fertile ground a fake relationship is born.

Funny Story reads breezily despite tackling complicated relationships and big emotions. Both leads are genuinely nice—ignore what Daphne says about being a pessimistic asshole—so even the Big Misunderstanding in the final part of the book doesn’t require a grovel of epic proportions. After the emotional gauntlet of Happy Place (which I loved but left me feeling wrung out), Funny Story felt just right. I rank it as my second favorite EH title after Book Lovers.

I read this in one day and I could not put it down. Emily Henry has quickly become one of my favorite Authors and I was so excited to be approved to read this book early. I can hardly wait until April to get this book for my library!

Every new Emily Henry release is like a beautiful little gift. She manages to make even the most convoluted stakes (fake relationship, dating your ex’s new girl’s ex) seem somehow grounded and believable. I had a blast reading this. It was the perfect way to start my year! Would give 4.5 stars if I could.

This is Emily Henry at her absolute best. Lovely, lovely characters and plot. I read this so quickly and didn't want it to end. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. I wish I could read it again for the first time. Thanks to NetGalley for an early copy.

Emily Henry has done it again! She doesn't miss and I am just thankful to be living in a world where she is writing books.

This book follows the aftermath of a broken engagement where our main character takes up residence with the ex-boyfriend of the girl her fiance left her for (drama, I know). However, despite these absurd circumstances in which our main characters build their relationship, this love story felt so organic and believable from the get-go. Both our main characters have their issues regarding relationships that we see them tackle in this book, and I don't think anyone will have trouble rooting for their personal growth as well as their growth together.

It's no secret that Emily Henry KNOWS how to write a male lead - but this one felt a bit different from her previous ones. He was not the shy introverted writer that we all know and love from her some of her previous works. Instead, he was charming and charismatic and felt so tangible (in the best way possible). I think part of the reason I enjoyed this book as much as I did was because it felt like a love story that could have happened to me.

All in all, this book gives us a swoon-worthy romance with the banter we know and love, but it also tackles familial relationship issues that personally hit close to home. Emily Henry knows how to weave both of these plot lines so seamlessly together and I'm just so thankful for the opportunity to have read this early!

I really enjoyed this - the main character is a librarian, and finds herself rooming with her ex-fiance's ex fiancé. Daphne and Miles concoct a fake dating scenario to try to get back at their ex's, and of course, fall in love. Emily Henry is the queen of banter, and Funny Story does not disappoint. I love how Henry incorporates her own love or reading, librarians, and books in this novel. I still think my favorite Emily Henry book is "Book Lovers" by this one is a close second! Thank you to NetGalley for the Advanced reader copy.

Daphne has moved her entire life for fiancée Peter and the wedding is imminent until he dumps her for his life long platonic friend Petra. With no where to go Daphne moves in with Petra’s ex Miles. You know from the plot line she and Miles will fall for each other but when we first meet him he’s a sad mess pothead, and I almost stopped reading then. But the real Miles grows on the reader as he does on Daphne. The two together discover truths about themselves, as they become better people with each other.

I don't read much romance, but Emily Henry is my favorite. She plays with tropes that we all know from rom-coms, but then goes so much deeper. We see the characters and their quirks and flaws. Plus she sprinkles in amazing, nerdy references that had me smiling from page to page. She is almost always an auto-buy for me, and this is not an exception!

4.5 stars

I just love spending a day or two in Emily Henry’s worlds. Daphne moved to a small Michigan town with her fiancé Peter who ends up dumping Daphne so he could be with his childhood bff Petra. Daphne ends up moving in with Miles, Petra’s dumped ex.

Wonderful book as Daphne and Miles work through their hurt and learn a lot about themselves. I loved both of them! You will smile throughout the book.

This is without a doubt my favorite Emily Henry book yet! I was a bit disappointed in her previous novel, so I didn't go into this with high expectations, and boy, was I in for a treat! The story between Daphne and Miles was just so sweet and I was rooting for them the entire book!

This book was SO good! I love all Emily Henry books, but this one tugs on my heart slightly differently. I devoured this book in a couple of days and felt so connected to both Daphne and Miles. Daphne was the most relatable character. I could relate to her love of books and being part of the library community. I also could understand her trust issues and how skeptical she was about letting people entirely into her life. Daphne and Miles's romantic relationship felt real, and they dealt with real-life experiences and challenges. I loved that their relationship felt organically from the start, especially when they were unexpectedly roommates and, more shockingly, their exes’ exes. Henry’s writing was phenomenical and this book should be on everyone’s rom con to read list this year!

Thank you to Netgallery and to Berkley Publishing for giving me a copy of the book

In Funny Story, Emily Henry continues her streak of relatable main characters in feel good stories. In the midst of a messy break-up with her fiance, Daphne moves in Miles. Miles is the former boyfriend of her ex-fiance's new girlfriend. This is a well-written love story with Emily Henry's signature banter. 4/5 stars

I actually don’t know how it’s even possible for a book to be comparable to Happy Place, but unfathomably, Emily Henry has done it again, and even better. This book is more real, more raw, more close, and more relatable than ever, in addition to being funny and cute.

I absolutely love the characters, who don’t so much have fatal flaws, but human flaws. These characters are so loveable and believable, and all tension or problems are realistic. Many parts of this book had me looking at myself and going “oh wait, I do that.” So I what I’m actually saying is it was like therapy.

The “ex’s new love’s ex” trope was so so fun, and even though I initially wasn’t looking forward to it because I thought it would be cringe, I clearly forgot that Emily Henry does everything well, and this isn’t an exception. Please please read this book because it is just so fantastic and you will cry so hard (if you feel everything like me and Daphne)
Miles is the best book boyfriend, hands down! Sorry to all other Emily Henry book boyfriends I’ve let down to say this.
I honestly don’t know how I know what’s going to happen every time, but it still manages to gut punch me.

Thank you to Net Galley for the advanced reader copy! :)

I don’t read much romance, but Emily Henry always proves the exception. In Funny Story, Daphne, a straitlaced children’s librarian, moves to small-town Michigan for her fiancé Peter — only for him to dump her months before the wedding for his lifelong best friend Petra. Isolated and reeling, Daphne temporarily takes Petra’s newly-vacated room in her now-ex Miles’ apartment. What follows is a New Girl-esque story featuring (in my opinion) one of Emily Henry’s most likeable love interests and a healthy dose of some light family trauma that bonds the very different Daphne and Miles along the way.

As a librarian, I especially loved Daphne’s dedication to her job. Seeing her at work made her a more full realized character and provided a lovely glimpse into how libraries can foster community among longtime and new residents. I also loved the witty dialogue, which is vital to any Emily Henry novel. Any of her fans will clamber to read her latest, and I’m sure they’ll like it.

4.5/5: The roommates-to-lovers trope with a lot of heart at the center and a delightful Michigan summer setting.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
