Too similar to the original Cupcake Diaries books to be interesting for an original fan. A good option for younger readers who aren’t ready for the interpersonal friend drama and who haven’t read the original books yet.
So, so, so cute!!
It's so perfect for every single kid out there!!
I read it with my nephews and both of them loved it!!
I read this book with my 9-year old daughter who really enjoys the Cupcake Diaries graphic novels. She loves this series because, cupcakes, and I love that it is a wholesome, sweet reading option for her. While I still read most books before she does or with her, this series is always a comfortable reading choice, and Emily’s Cupcake Magic! was no different.
These books deliver characters with relatable conflict to the young audience, and they don’t display behavior that I wouldn’t want my child emulating (in contrast to many of the chapter books and middle grade novels I’ve read).
If you’re looking for a wholesome and entertaining book for your second-fourth grader, I highly recommend this. It’s stands alone well, even if your child hasn’t read the rest of the series.
"Emily's Cupcake Magic!" by Coco Simon is a delightful chapter book that introduces readers to Emily Green, a girl facing the challenges of switching schools and feeling isolated from her friends. When a baking contest is announced at her new school, Emily must navigate her passion for baking while grappling with living in the shadow of her stepsister, Katie Brown, a famous baker.
Coco Simon's storytelling is engaging and relatable, with Emily's journey of self-discovery and embracing her unique baking style resonating authentically. The book incorporates charming black and white illustrations that enhance the narrative, along with a glittery cover that adds visual appeal.
Despite following familiar themes, "Emily's Cupcake Magic!" stands out for its endearing characters and positive messages about friendship and individuality. This chapter book is a delightful read for young audiences interested in stories about baking, friendship, and personal growth. Overall, it sets a promising tone for the Cupcake Diaries: The New Batch series, making it a delightful addition to children's literature.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the e-ARC of this book.
This book is to the Cupcake Diaries what the Little Sister series is to the Baby Sitters Club. It's a perfect book for early chapter book fans and little bakers. I think this will be a great series addition for this age group.
Akin to the Babysitters Little Sister books, this new series is perfect for younger readers who really want to read the Cupcake Diaries books but aren't quite ready. In this series opener, we follow Katie's little sister, Emily as she starts at a new school and finds friends with the help of some baked goods, all while figuring out how to get out of her loving stepsister's shadow. I loved the warm blended family dynamics and the support between the older members of the Cupcake Club and Emily's crew. Such a fun series starter that kids as young as the second grade can enjoy.
