A nicely twisty dual time line, dual POV thriller. Who killed Maddy? No spoilers from me but this love triangle veers all over the place. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.
It didn't take me long to know this was going to be a five star read. I stayed up past my bedtime because I wanted to know more. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. I did not see the ending coming, I thought I had it figured out.....nope 🤯 Who do I need to contact about making this into a movie!!!

This book started with a bang and never let up till the end. I binged it in a few hours and was still thinking about it afterward, which is a sign of a well written novel.
The story mainly focuses on the characters Benjamin Rebecca, Gwyn, and Madeline .
Written in a duel narrative with a duel timeline, the story is filled with jealousy, lies and deceit, and revenge. There are also plenty of red herrings and red flags.. Who killed Maddy? Was Gwyn plotting behind Maddy's back to steal Benjamin? Were they both in on it?
Then, just when I thought I had it figured out, a twist from left field knocked me off my sofa. Addictictive and binge worthy, this is a book you won't want to miss out on.
I can't wait to see what Jessica comes up with for her next book, as she has quickly become an auto buy author for me.
Thank you, Netgally, Bookature, and the author for the advanced copy. This review was voluntary, and all opinions are my own.
Thank you to NetGalley, Jessica Payne, and Bookouture for an ARC copy of "Never Trust the Husband".
"Never Trust the Husband" is a riveting psychological thriller that will keep you guessing until the very end. With its captivating plot, well-drawn characters, and expertly executed twists, it's a must-read for fans of the genre. I couldn't put it down and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a gripping and immersive read.
Thank you @thrillerbookloverspromotions and @bookouture for including me on this tour and introducing me to @jessicapayne.writer !
Thriller fans, you need to clear your calendars before opening Never Trust the Husband because once you start reading, you won’t be able to stop!
I read multiple thrillers a month and not to brag, but I’m pretty good at unravelling plot twists. Jessica Payne totally tricked me and I loved every minute of it. The plot is so clever - every time I thought I had things figured out, Payne through in the perfect twist that left me 🤯😱
Never Trust the Husband is a thriller with emotional substance. Between all the OMG moments, there is heart and I was fully invested in what happened to Madeline and the present day lives of Rebecca, Gwyn and even the husband…
No exaggeration- I literally couldn’t put the book down - I read it while cooking, stretching, doing my skincare routine…. . My husband can vouch for my obsession, if you can trust him …. ; )
This book follows Madeline, who falls off a cliff while backpacking with friends and her new husband of only three days.
We go back and forth dual timelines from Madeline when she meets her new husband, and to four years later when someone who is so determined to figure out what happened, comes back to the town to try to get to know the same people to find any clues. This is after Botox, plastic surgery, contacts, so many changes she isn’t even recognized anymore.
I love the flipping back between timelines, I love the fun in trying to figure out who this person used to be while reading the past stories.
I wasn’t overall surprised with some of the twists, but a couple did get me for sure. I love when a book keeps you guessing throughout who you can trust, and this did just that. I also loved the writing style, short chapters, and the overall want to keep reading. I stayed up late to finish! There is a lot of stalking and following done in this book.
I would recommend for anyone who loves a good domestic thriller, such as the perfect marriage or You.
Thank you so much to NetGalley and Bookouture for this advanced copy in exchanged for my honest review!
Pleased to report that throughout most of the book I couldn’t quite grasp what was going on and who to trust. It was very much as though the truth was just out of my grasp, no matter how hard I strained to reach it.
A great premise and lots of characters who it was easy to see could have ulterior motives and trust issues all round. Lots of very complicated relationships and people following people who equally were following them, all desperately looking for the truth. In essence a young woman goes missing during her honeymoon with our knowledge that someone pushed her over a cliff, presumed dead. Later her husband is suddenly in a relationship with her best friend and engaged to be married to her seemingly in a hurry to declare his first wife presumed dead by absence.
Fairly relieved to say that I moved through most of the main characters, suspecting them each in turn, as I fear I was directed to. I did come up with the right answer, just a hair breadth before it was revealed but there were still some surprises I didn’t see coming. The sense of threat and foreboding that built up nicely throughout was sublime and definitely edge of the seat material. Definitely recommend.
This was a fun and fast paced thriller. I was questioning the characters and what was going on the whole time - who could I trust, who was lying, who was telling the truth?
I definitely would like to look at what else this author has written - I don't know that this will be a super memorable book but it was a great popcorn thriller and entertaining in the moment!
Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for this copy.
This is the first book I’ve read from this author. It took me a minute to get into it but then I couldn’t put it down. I was sucked in. Was this story any way believable, absolutely not. Did it entertain and I never knew who did it until the very end, absolutely yes!
Looking forward to reading her other books.
This was a solid thriller where I wasn’t able to put the ending together, so it kept me wanting to know who was the culprit.
I enjoyed the unreliable characters and how you weren’t able to fully understand their true motive.
I was rooting for Maddy, it sounded like a nice but too good to be true love story. I will say the second person writing for the present tense confused me slightly but didn’t take away from enjoyment.
I am interested in checking out more for this author.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC.
Are you looking for an addictive thriller? I just finished reading one that I highly recommend. If you're into domestic drama and murder, you can't miss this book. Order food, clear your schedule, and settle in for this twisted psychological thriller. Once you start, you won't be able to put it down!
The story follows Madeline, who falls head over heels in love with Benjamin, a man whose business faces financial problems. But Madeline has the means to help him out financially after they get married. However, her best friend Gwyn is envious of her seemingly perfect life and would love to take over Madeline's place.
When Madeline and Benjamin go camping with a group of friends instead of a honeymoon, things take a dark turn. One night, Madeline goes missing while photographing the stars.
Do you like revenge thrillers and devious characters? This is the book!!
Jessica Payne has truly outdone herself with this novel. I can't wait to get my hands on all of her other works!!

This book had me asking myself, why do I not read more of Jessica Payne’s books? They are so twisty, fast paced and captivating. I loved the beginning of this and how you are drawn in right away with the death of newlywed, Madeline while on her honeymoon camping with friends. You are caught up three years later, trying to figure out who killed her and what their motive was. I enjoyed the dual POVs with Rebecca in the present and Madeline in the past as she meets and falls in love with her husband, Benji. I was sure I could figure this one out, but i was so wrong! There were some cleverly placed red herrings, but even so, I was left shocked twist after twist! And when you think the twists are finally done, there’s one more around the corner! As Rebecca fights for justice for Madeline’s murder, you are on the edge of your seat hoping she finds it before she’s found out. Everyone is hiding something and nobody can be trusted! This psychological thriller is not one to be missed!
Wow! Definitely crazy, and a little over-the-top, but this was a really fun and exciting read! 4.5 stars. Madeline was murdered, but who did it? The husband? The best friend? There is always some new tidbit being introduced, and the reader has no idea who she can trust. Sometimes, these people are super nice, and other times, they are horrible to each other. It's full of surprises and hard to guess what's coming next. What a great soap opera of a book! There's friendship, love, jealousy, betrayal, lies, deceit, and so much more! I had a hard time putting it down. Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the eARC.
Took me longer than usual to get into the storyline but overall it was a good read.
The characters were interesting and after about 25% I was thoroughly engaged in the book.
Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for this ARC which I have no hesitation in recommending.
Three years ago, Madeline disappeared just two days after marrying her husband, Benjamin. That's what everyone thinks, but one person knows the truth. Madeline was killed by Benjamin and his new fiance Gwyn. Now, Rebecca is lurking in the shadows, collecting evidence, biding her time to prove what she knows and avenge Madeline's death.
Never Trust The Husband is a psychological thriller that gets its grip on you from the very beginning. There's so many twists and turns in this one that you don't know where you're going. This is a deceitful story, too. Once you think you've figured things out, it turns out you're just wrong. I couldn't put this one down because I had to find out all the answers immediately! This is one crazy thrill ride, and I loved every second of it!
Look, I requested this because of the blurb which itself was so intriguing but I had no idea I'd love this book so much. I can't remember the last time a book made me this anxious. Although I saw the plot twist coming, I still enjoyed the build-up!
Never trust the husband has two narrators. Madeline and Rebecca. Madeline was murdered during a camping trip with her new husband and best friends. Rebecca, seeing how Madeline's husband and best friend got engaged and declared Madeline officially dead, decided to investigate. She KNOWS one of them killed her. They've got motive, after all
I won't spoil too much. All I'll say is: excellent plot that will have you biting your nails and yelling at people who interrupt you. the writing is great too!
The characters are all well written and have depth.
I enjoyed this book immensely. I binged it in three days
Definitely recommended!
I can't wait to check out this author's other books because I surely adored this one.
Madeline meet Benjamin North and the stars collided. The love story was the making of the romance novels. Rich girl. Handsome man. Next thing they are walking down the aisle. Everything seemed to be going to plan until the news of hurricanes in the Caymans put paid to their dream honeymoon.
So instead of a romantic break for two they are on a hiking trip with friends. Out on one of the trails Madeline disappears. Never to be seen again. A tragic accident or something more sinister.
Years later, after being declared dead Madeline is back. She has a new name and a new face. She watches as Benjamin is about to tie the know with her previous best friend Gwyn. A woman always jealous of her. She's back for revenge and to get the person who killed her.
This is a great who dunnit. Although a little far fetched that someone could have so much plastic surgery still look good and no one recognise her. But that's the beauty of fiction
Many thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for the opportunity to see an DRC

Buckle up for a wild ride! NEVER TRUST THE HUSBAND, though a tad unbelievable, delivers an adrenaline-fueled rollercoaster that's impossible to resist. From the get-go, it grabs you by the collar & doesn't let go until the final page. Sure, some twists might be predictable, but they're executed with such finesse that they still manage to shock & awe.
It's a quick read, perfect for those craving a binge-worthy escapade into the world of secrets & deception. Not everyone is who they appear to be, & the gasp-worthy plot turns keep you on the edge of your seat. I gave it 4 ✨ for sheer entertainment value.
Highly recommended for anyone looking to devour a gripping thriller in one sitting!

This is the second book I've read by Payne. The first was THE GOOD DOCTOR. I enjoyed both of these books. I love the way she writes. This one was exciting, suspenseful, and TWISTY!! Thriller lovers need to pick this up! Madeline and her husband Benjamin are on their honeymoon with a bunch of friends when Madeline tragically disappears. Now, a few years later, her BFF Gwyn and her husband are engaged. But Rebecca, someone from Madeline’s past, is determined to find out who harmed Madeline and make them pay. She knows Madeline’s husband and BFF both had their own reasons to get rid of her.
This was such an entertaining read! I'll be sure to pick up anything Payne writes in the future!
Out March 5.
Thank you to the publisher and netgalley for the gifted copy in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. My review will be posted on Instagram, Bookbub, Goodreads, and Amazon once it publishes.
I've read a couple of this authors other books and enjoyed them but I really struggled with this one. I found it quite repetitive and boring. I also struggled to like or relate to any of the main characters.
