Jessica Payne strikes again . Pretty fast paced . Hard to put down .maddy and benji get married on their honeymoon camping trip Maddy disappears. Now 3 years later Benho is engaged to Maddy bestfriend. Who killed Maddy . A perfect thriller twists and a jaw dropping ending
Who doesn’t love a good revenge, cat & mouse thriller?! This one was super addictive with so many unbelievable twists that I sure as hell didn’t see coming. I was hooked from page one until literally the very end! So it’s safe to say the writing and plot are superb👌🏼
The characters are all well written and of course are all flawed in their in own way which I think makes for an interesting thriller as the flaws bring depth to the story.
Overall, this was a very gripping novel that had be absorbed from the very beginning and making me wonder who can you really trust 🤔 you’re definitely going to want to pick this up when it hits shelves early next month my thriller friends!
I am a huge fan of Jessica Payne’s books and this one did not disappoint, it was quite the twisty little doozy! You’ve sworn off marriage, but then you meet the perfect guy, you marry him, maybe there were some red flags, but whatevs, and now you are dead. Oopsie. But wait, there’s more! Your BFF is now engaged to him! Umm, what?!
I’m telling you, this was a doozy! I was hooked from the beginning, we flash back to the past when Madeline was alive to present day when someone has decided to follow the new couple and figure out exactly what happened to Madeline. I was questioning everything and everyone the entire time, and THIS is why I love Payne and her books so much!
Suspenseful and a bit anxiety inducing haha, I really enjoyed this one and have one more of her backlist to read. This one is out March 5, and you do NOT want to sleep on this, I definitely recommend it.
Thank you to Thriller Book Lovers Promotions and Bookouture for the ARC to review.
NEVER TRUST THE HUSBAND is a psychological thriller by Jessica Payne. Having read and liked her previous three novels, I was anxious to start this novel.
Her Novels Include:
Make Me Disappear (2022)
The Lucky One (2022)
The Good Doctor (2023)
Never Trust the Husband (2024)
This is my review of Never Trust The Husband.
Madeline Hughes would now be thirty-one and worth $12 million due to her family’s fortune…but she disappeared three years ago, and had recently married Benjamin North, owner of a winery in Seattle. Maddy went missing while backpacking with her husband and friends.
Benjamin, the perfect husband, hid many secrets from Maddy.
Maddy died a few days after their wedding. She died after being pushed off a mountain cliff. She was murdered…and to date the body was never found.
Soon after her death, Benjamin is engaged to Maddy’s best friend, Gwyn. So much for the grieving husband!
The narrative alternates between Madeline (Then) and Rebecca (Now), a voyeur who knew Maddy, and is trying to collect as much information about what happened to Maddy. She works undercover as a travel nurse, and has mixed feelings about what happened to Maddy. She feels her death was no accident and has taken it upon herself to bring those who did wrong to justice.
Every night Rebecca watches Benjamin and Gwyn in their Seattle home.
But will Rebecca be able to discover the truth?
This novel will have you glued to the pages late into the night! Loved it!
Many thanks to the author, Bookouture and NetGalley for my digital copy.
This was an amazing, fast paced thriller. I didn’t want to put it down. Maddy mysteriously went over a cliff just days after her wedding. It was ruled an accident but Rebecca doesn’t think so. She believes someone close to Maddy pushed her. And she’s determined to get revenge. But who is Rebecca? How did she know Maddy?
This would have been an easy 5 star for me but I was paying very close attention to how Rebecca’s thoughts were worded to figure out who she was. I had a couple guesses that should have been disproven by Rebecca’s private thoughts. However, it was my first guess in the end. While I loved that twist, I don’t like that the inner thoughts of Rebecca made that seem impossible. Otherwise, this was an amazing book full of great twists. Thank you to NetGalley for my copy!
I picked this one for the title. It reads like a soap opera. People are assuming new identities and getting cosmetic surgery to be the new person, there was maybe a murder on a honeymoon, A man is marrying his dead wife's best friend, and everyone is rich.
Love that for me.
I love the ending!
I’d like to thank Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘Never Trust The Husband’ written by Jessica Payne in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
Four years ago Madeline is back-packing with her new husband Benji and their close friends. She leaves the tent at night to stop at a mountain cliff top and get a special photo when she hears footsteps approaching then feels a hand push her over the cliff. Now, Benji is living with Madeline’s best-friend Gwyn in the house he would have shared with Madeline but someone doesn’t believe it was an accident and is plotting revenge on whoever was responsible by changing her appearance so that she can’t be recognised and watching.
‘Never Trust The Husband’ is told in two timelines by Madeline and the person watching who calls herself Rebecca. I’m disappointed that the story fell flat for me, I didn’t like the characters and was unable to empathise with them. It’s obvious that it appeals to a lot of readers who’ve given it five stars but I’m afraid I’m not one of them and struggled to get into the story. I’ve no doubt it’s well-written and am sorry my comments are so negative but this is purely my own opinion and unfortunately this is one of those books that I couldn’t finish which is a rare occurrence for me.
Never Trust the Husband is another nail biter by Jessica Payne. The story took me on a wild ride and I didn't hate it. If you, enjoy a thriller that will keep you guessing until the very end, I can highly recommend this book.
Many thanks to Net Galley and Bookouture for my gifted ARC.

I absolutely LOVED this book, for me it had everything, thrills, twists, secrets, betrayals! Everything I love!
Madeline is backpacking, a honeymoon trip with her new husband and some friends, one night something horrific happens, Madeline is pushed off a cliff! Who could have done this and why?
The story kept me guessing, it is engaging and well paced, a great thriller

This book was written for the long game and man is it so good. The betrayal of someone who is suppose to be your lover or your best friend or even worse both of them. Fast forward three years and you are declared dead since your body is missing and your best friend is engaged to your husband. Who can you trust, who can you believe?
The story is told in two voices Madeline then and Rebecca now. Rebecca returns to Seattle to see what happened to her friends life and help get closer for her. There was already a hint of cheating and deceit when Madeline was dating Benji and then marries him. This deceit continues when Rebecca returns, She finds Madeline's missing items and people. The crazy twist in this story makes you realize you need to be very careful who you believe.
The end of this book is so very chilling when you get to it. Like didn't see that coming and how screwed up it was, like dang. I am glad that after the long game played out the truth was found and it was bad but maybe not as bad as she thought or was it? I highly recommend running not walking to get your hands on this book on March 5th!! It's a fast paced thriller that you will devour.
Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture & Jessica Rayne for the ARC in return for my honest opinion.
Keep Reading and finding your next adventure in black and white.
This is one of the best thrillers I have read in quite some time. Madeline and Benjamin have a beautiful wedding but the honeymoon was cancelled because of a hurricaine. One of their friends, Kip, suggests they all go backpacking for a few days to celebrate. Madeline ends of being pushed off a cliff as she is trying to photograph the night skies for a picture for their new home. Who pushed her??? This story is told in a then and now format which makes for a very interesting read with lots of twists, turns and surprises.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC of this phenomenal thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat until the very end.
4.5 stars
I loved the two POVs & timelines and how untrustworthy all the characters were. I had suspicions on how things would play out but mostly I was surprised!
Thanks to NetGalley & Boukouture for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review
Who pushed Madeline? Jessica Payne pulled the wool over my eyes until the very end. Well done! The story is told utilizing two 1st person POVs -- one past and one present. The two threads kept things moving. I devoured this in one day and was caught by complete surprise more than once. This is my first read from Jessica Payne and I will try to find time for more. The ARC I read very kindly included inserts from all her other books. What a great way to hook me into another one. Good thinking, Bookouture. In the Acknowledgements, Jessica Payne mentions her appreciation for her cat Lilst Kitty. For a cat-lover like me, that is worth an entire star. Meow! 🐈

Madeline is on a backpacking trip for her honeymoon with her new husband and a few friends, when one night while photographing the night sky, she is pushed off a cliff.
This story definitely kept me interested. I did guess the ending pretty early on, but for me that doesn’t affect my reading experience.
This is a pretty solid domestic thriller. Especially for newish thriller readers.
This was a good, fast paced, well written story, but very predictable. The story contains a dual time line that wasn't horrible, but I wasn't a fan...especially once you figure out the ending. Overall, it's worth a read, but I can't say that it will be a memorable one.
I love the cover!
First book I’ve read by this author…and won’t be the last. Always kept me on my toes and loved the plot!
I would recommend this author to others.
Thanks NetGalley for letting me read and review
First book I’ve read by this author…and won’t be the last. Definitely keeps you guessing the whole way through from beginning to end. Thought I had it figured out…..but no, I wasn’t even close. Nice, short chapters. Not too many characters to confuse you. I would absolutely recommend this book to others.
This book has it all It had all. You’ll be drawn in, lied to, pushed into thrills so much so that you’ll wonder how the ending can shock you so much.
This was a great book! Even though I was able to figure out the twist it was still really good. There were times I was nervous for the main character as she was doing her investigating. This was a good plot that kept me engaged.

Didn't work for me.
Madeline wasn’t looking for love but when she saw Benjamin on her thirtieth birthday she could not let him go without meeting him. After spending time with him that night he convinces her to go out with him. From the beginning she knew he was different. He made her feel what no man had been successful at in the past. Soon they were planning their wedding. Three days after the wedding, Maddy disappears. Was it accisdent, was it the new husband with the business that was in trouble or was it the best friend who wanted her life? Rebecca is determined to find out who killed Maddy. She is convinced it wasn’t an accident and she has gone to great lenghts to determine the killer.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for giving me an advance copy.
