A proper page turner, that's hard to write too much about without giving anything away. A solid thriller, with a great ending.
This book is very suspenseful and it sure is a page turner!
🔥 family drama
🔥 domestic suspense
🔥 odd neighbors
I was questioning everyone and everything until the very end! Very good book!
This was a wild ride of a book. I was slightly confused in the beginning and there was a lot of information given in the very beginning that was a tad overwhelming. it also starts of very slow but then eventually picks up. I do recommend because i know some will very much enjoy this one! There are some trigger warnings, DV, child abuse.
This book was full of secrets. Its told by multiple perspectives. The point of view is told by the grandma, and the mother of Tom. What I loved most about this book was the ending. It made the book for me.
The Child at My Door is my first read from the author and absolutely not become the last. Following powerful POVs, readers will dive deep into alot background and under layer facts about mysterious boy who coming to Clarissa's door.
The writing is captive with slower pace at beginning. The author explores fragile themes about motherhood, family's secret, domestic violence and twisted friendship. The premise was intriguing but the plot come dramatic unpredictable with twists and turns.
This book was addictive, brimming with dramas and unique mysteries.

Slightly dark story full of twists and turns. Can’t say too much without giving it away, but it is definitely a page turner.

Sam Vickery is an author who just gets better and better. This is a phenomenal read and definitely the best by this author to date. This is a book I was pulled into and completely unwilling to put down.
This has been everything I had hoped for and so much more. Addictive and completely captivating, Vickery has had me gasping out loud as I’ve read this one.
There is so much to unravel in this complete gem. Vickery has explored the pain and power of motherhood. There are plenty of twists and turns in the pages of this one. The reveals are brilliant and come at all the right places.
This is chilling and definitely my favourite read by Vickery. This is brilliant. I absolutely recommend this book.
I don’t read thriller books a lot but this one is special, it's so good I couldn't put it down I really recommend it to everyone who loves thriller or want to get into it

Despite her running away from her mother at the tender age of 15, she remembers the love and care she was brought up with and wants the same for her son. She ran away after doing something so terrible she could barely live with herself anymore, let alone continue to look her mother in the eye. However desperate times call for desperate measures and Chloe will do anything for Tommy and that includes putting him first, so she packs a small bag of Tommy’s things and sends him to Clarissa, her mother. For Tommy to turn up on Clarissa’s doorstep feels like a miracle to Clarissa and is over the moon to find out that, not only does she have a grandson, but that there is the possibility her daughter will come back to her after years of being estranged. However, once Chloe has managed to get away from Scott and set herself up in another flat to make a proper home with Tommy, Clarissa isn’t keen on handing Tommy back to her citing what happened when Chloe was 15 as an example as to why Tommy isn’t safe with Chloe. One day Chloe sees a man who is unmistakenly her brother and she feels she may be seeing things as she knows for a fact that her brother Rod??? is dead….. or is he? Can she believe everything she has been told and remembered about that horrible time in her life? And is it time for all the secrets and lies to come out into the open?!
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for giving me an advance copy.
Thank you to Netgalley and the Publisher for this ARC in return for an honest review.
The Child at my Door by Sam Vickery starts when a young boy shows up on Clarissa's doorstep claiming to be her grandson, but her daughter died 15 years ago! The book alternated between two different perspectives and is so well written that you cannot tell who is the good guy and who is the bad guy. It definitely kept me guessing until the end and even then I was shocked.
Loved this book!
Can a mother show love towards one child and hatred towards other, based on the gender?
Believe it or not, that's the life of two kids of the same biological mother deals with in this story. Absolute goosebumps!
It was a thriller and psychological mystery between mother and the kids, the one who psychopathy tendency is not exactly that, the one who shows care doesn't really care. Loved the slow and suspense pace of the book. There is suspense, hidden history, brain-wash, lots of unexpected twists.
Dark, gloomy troubled main character finally gets a clarity and finds a light at the end of the dark path. Loved it, would definitely recommend others too.
This is a pov told from the grandna and mother of Tommy.. The story itself starts off quite slow with lots of background as we skirt around thecoast and its secrets.as the story develops the action steps up secrets are revealed. All the characters are flawed. I loved the twists and turns.
However the secret of the past is revealed in a very unconvincing way just to progress the story that spoilt it. This deals with some many tough issuses child abuse domestic abuse and drugs.
This was a compelling read the ending blew me away. I woukd throughly recommended this to anyone who enjoys a good domestic thriller. The characters are flawed and therecare past of the past that are ott and not tealistic. This is the only thing hhat makes it a 4.
Thank you to netgallery and publisher and author.
Amazing book! Suspenseful and has a great twist!!!! I really liked this one. The plot didn't drag at all.
I'm still thinking about this book weeks after reading it! So many sinister characters that you never even truly know who the most devious was. This was both an abhorrent nightmare and a chilling reminder as to how far someone will go for what they believe. I think readers will be slightly mortified to learn the truth.
It took me a while to read this book. There was not one good quality to any of these characters. I was frustrated at first. What I got was a total surprise at the end. It took a 360 turn and I was here for it. This follows chloe who is in a very dangerous situation a women who wants to protect her child so she sends him off with her mother who she hasn't seen in a while. What happens next kept me hooked. Definitely a recommend.
Sam Vickery was completely new to me until I received this ARC through NetGalley. This book is so good that I have added her to my auto-read list without hesitation.
Clarissa is greeted by a young boy standing at her door, sent to her in a taxi. He says his name is Tommy, his mummy is Chloe, and she is his grandma. It had been fifteen years since Clarissa last saw her daughter. Believing she was dead, Chloe must find a secure place for Tommy while she gets her life in order, and there's no safer option than her mother's.
This book was incredibly captivating, alternating between two perspectives with surprises in every chapter. Furthermore, the characters are so intricately crafted that you will experience a whirlwind of emotions. Packed with hidden truths and falsehoods, this book will leave you musing long after you've put it down. Brace yourself for a gripping and disturbing domestic thriller filled with shocking revelations that will keep you hooked until the end! I really think you should give it a try!
Many thanks to Bookouture, NetGalley & Sam Vickery for a chance to review it.
To the world, Clarissa's son and daughter are dead but then, a boy arrives on her doorstep, claiming to be her Grandson and that his mother, Chloe, is alive. This story focuses on how much a mother will do for her child. Told from the perspectives of Clarissa and Chloe., two very different stories emerge, and the reader must chose who to believe. Although the story started well, some of the events defied belief. Without giving too much of the plot away, the way people behave in the story is very implausible and the final twist even more so.
A troubled young lady who has blamed herself for her brother’s death many years earlier sends her young son to her mother’s home whom she has not seen in 15 years. Her mother is more than happy to take care of the young boy while his mom puts her life back together. Letters stating “I know what you did” start turning up. Read this well written thriller to find the answer. Loved this one.
