This was a fun, dark read with interesting characters about a sociopathic girl meeting a sociopathic family.
Olivia and Eliza are friends until Eliza realized Olivia may not be a good person. Olivia then starts dating Eliza's brother Ezra. Olivia's abusive father goes missing and Eliza and Ezra's parents feel sorry for her and offer to be Olivia's guardians, so she won't have to go into foster care.
There are multiple POVs, but I found the pacing a little slow. The story also tends to lean more towards YA. I'm not sure how I feel about the ending, which does leave some unanswered questions.
But, it was entertaining enough.

They Are The Hunters was such an addictive, gripping, suspenseful thriller. My eyes were glued to the pages and I couldn't read fast enough. I didn't expect to love it as much as I did, but let me tell you it killed my expectations.
This family is so damn dysfunctional, messed up, creepy at times and utterly deranged, you know what I loved every single second. I liked how we got everyone's POV it made me get to know each and everyone one of them and see inside their minds. Every character added to the craziness, it was chef's kiss.
It was perfectly paced through it all, there was never a moment where you didn't feel the suspense. It was an easy, fast read even though it was dark. The originality of this book was so refreshing, I didn't expect the final outcome, it definitely took me by surprise.
Faith is truly an author to watch, this thriler was truly outstanding. I loved it so much! And have you seen that cover 😍
✨️Thank you to @netgalley, @mirrorhousepress & @faithgardner for my free ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I absolutely loved this one. It has an easy to read writing style but was dark and twisted, funny yet brutal, and just overall amazing. This author dared to take this to places others won't and also doesn't try to spell everything out for the reader without leaving unanswered questions. Each character has strong, unique traits, making them stand out in their own way and having more depth to them than the usual fast-paced book. The reader will either love or hate each and every one of them. How I have not heard of this author until now blows my mind because if this book is any indication of her past reads, she might just be a new favorite of mine. Four and a half stars.
Thank you Netgalley and Mirror House Press for this ARC.

A young girl becomes close to a family that isn't what it appears. Of course she isn't what she appears to be either. But, it took too long to get to the point. I went back to read the summary a couple times because I felt like I might be reading a different book! The story set up was stretched out too far for me and then the ending felt too rushed. I would have loved less of an intro and more of the twisty turny suspense stuff. These were great characters and there were so many possibilities that were just left undeveloped.

This was one of the best-written books I’ve read. There was at least 5 metaphors/similes / smart wording & jokes that made me realise why some people annotate their books.
I immediately signed up for her newsletter and started looking up her other books.
The characters felt very real too but I did feel like they had quite a few similarities between the children which is why I gave it 4 instead of 5.
Highly recommend!

A really unique thriller which held my attention and interest. At times dark and gruesome but this just adds to the uniqueness of the story. Brilliant xx

I’ve read 4 @faith.gardner books in the past few months and I’ve come to the conclusion that
1.) Faith NEVER MISSES (aka all her thrillers are entertaining, fast-paced and truly one of a kind)
2.) This is by far my favorite book of hers (even though they’ve all been 5⭐️s)
This book is delightfully full of an imperfectly dysfunctional wealthy family that loves to put on a perfect facade, a pseudo single white female vibe, and some questionable
parenting!!!
5.0⭐️
⭐️THIS BOOK WILL BE RELEASED JAN 11TH⭐️

Many thanks to both Mirror House Press and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review an early copy of They Are the Hunters. It has an expected publication date of January 11, 2024.
Well, THIS was different! I love the Jolvix books Ms. Gardner writes but I don't feel I was the right target audience for this book. They Are the Hunters has an intriguing premise; are these characters the hunters or the hunted? It's totally unlike anything I've ever read. I've often felt that there is no such thing as a perfect person who is not at least a bit dysfunctional but the characters in this book go so, so far beyond dysfunctional!
I was unprepared for how gruesome and dark They Are the Hunters would be. There are so many glowing reviews and I wish I could add one more to that list! My apologies to the author. This just wasn't a good fit for me.

The pacing of this book is way too slow. I also thought the multiple points of view were very confusing and hard to follow. I didn’t finish the book unfortunately due to these two things. Thank you to NetGalley and Mirror House Press for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I absolutely loved this book! I’m so glad I voted for it in the author’s newsletter!
First of all, instantly engulfed in this story from the first chapter. It was so enticing and captivating, I just had to know more. Second, any book that focuses around mental disorders, sign me up. This story focused on psychopathy of several characters and dived into their wicked ways of thinking.
Every character had a story to them and I loved that they were all keeping secrets from one another. The multiple POV helped keep the intrigue of the story.
This was one of my favorite books this year and I’m so glad I got to read it. Definitely a page turner that I read in one night!
Thank you NetGalley, Mirror House Press, and author Faith Gardner for this gifted copy in exchange for an honest review.

Being a product of your environment is sometimes not a good thing. Something is just not right with Olivia but The Hunter family embraces her as their own. That is until the real Olivia is introduced and The Hunters secrets come to light as well! This book will keep you wanting to know what’s next because there always seems to be something more. Do you ever really know someone? The answer is no! You never know the past or secrets they are keeping from you!
A huge thanks to this amazing author Faith Gardner, Mirror House Press, and Netgalley for the chance to read this pre published amazing book!

Eliza is a straight A student, dances and has a perfect family. Or at least that is what everyone thinks. But has a brother who is questioning if he is a psychopath, mother that is falling apart, a father who is trying to write a book that will probably never sell, and a best friend that has integrated herself into Elizas life that it is causing strife. When weird things start happening and a hand is discovered at the fair Eliza starts to question everything about her friend Olivia. And Olivia definitely has some secrets too.
This was a fast paced, thrill filled, exhilarating book that kept me wanting to read more and more. It reads a little like a YA book so you have to take that into consideration but it reads really well. I am about all catching me in the beginning and keeping me on that ride the entire time. The plot moved thorough in a quick manner but you knew exactly what was happening. I didnt expect the ending at all and I loved that!

First off I love this author and I will read everything she writes until the end of time - so I come with a little bias here.
This is phenomenal. I love the different perspectives.
Ezra was just so interesting. He is dealing with some stuff and I love that we get his inner thoughts.
And I love how Angela is dealing with Carson not doing chores and just kind of fluffing around. Eliza seems too sweet!
I didn't want to put this down at all.
I won't spoil anything by sharing more but absolutely read this one. So good. So creepy.

I couldn't make it past the second chapter of this book. It was just too painful to read. It read like a third graders book report.

I loved the Jolvix books, but this stand-alone wasn't the right fit for me. It was intense and suspenseful but very dark and grim. The plot was good, but all the characters had serious flaws except their daughter, Eliza. No one listens to her, and they ignore her worries.
The characters are distant, self-absorbed, creepy, and have committed crimes or are planning them. The Hunter parents have moved Olivia, Eliza's former friend, into their home against Eliza's wishes. Since Eliza has distanced herself from Olivia, the girl now establishes a relationship with Eliza's brother, Ezra. The household is in turmoil. Danger ensues.
There is tension, shocking twists, secrets, and alarming reveals. It is best to go into the story while knowing very little about the plot. There is an extra chapter to download when one finishes the book. Many readers will enjoy this story and should not be deterred by my misgivings.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the early copy of the book. The publication date is January 11. The conclusion leaves room for a sequel.

I have read almost all of Faith Gardner's books and for some reason this one felt different. The multiple narrators combined with the storyline created a well crafted tale that had me hooked from the first chapter. This is a book I will be choosing for my book club in 2024!

Before I delve into my review, I urge you not to read the blurb or any other information about the book. It's better to approach it blindly. (Be mindful of the trigger warnings, including SA.) With that said, this book was truly enjoyable. Initially, I doubted I'd like it and almost put it down after the first chapter (admittedly). Yet, I'm delighted I impulsively returned to it.
Initially, the entire family seems perfect, but gradually, the characters began to unravel page by page. Particularly in the last 30% of the book, things became incredibly intense—I found the book impossible to put down. Although the ending felt a bit flat, Eliza and Olivia linger in my thoughts, leaving me pondering where their stories might lead. I did struggle with the some of the story; At times, the characters seemed remarkably oblivious, making certain parts of the story frustrating. Nevertheless, the book stands on solid ground and elicits moments of anxiety. I rate it a solid 4.5/5. A wonderful read!

4 stars for They Are the Hunters. #afamilythatslaystogetherstaystogether. Immerse yourself into a multi-narrative story with a picture perfect family. When Eliza finds a new best friend she quickly realizes how wrong she was about her, but then again Eliza seems to be wrong about many other things as well including who her family really is.
I enjoyed this book overall and loved how the story unfolded. The beginning was slow until about 40% through. Since it was a multi-narrative it was hard to catch on right away but by the end I was attached to the characters and realize this book would not have been as good without the multi-narrative. I appreciate the writing style, it never lingered longer than needed. I enjoyed the ending of the book that had twist after twist.

Wow, the premise of the book is like no other I've recently read. It's obvious from the summary that it will be dark, but admittedly, I wasn't aware of how dark it would go. Early on, some of the characters' inner monologues were much heavier than I expected. I'm sure there are people who will be down for the ride (and I'm sure they'll love this book!), but it just wasn't for me.

The story sounded intriguing overall but the characters felt very typecasted to me (aloof mom, dorky dad, etc.) and I wanted some of the reveals to go more in depth.
I mostly liked the ending and if you sign up for the author's newsletter you get a bonus epilogue chapter (though that doesn't really wrap everything up either, maybe there's going to be a sequel) but it's a nice little glimpse into the future.
