This was the PERFECT follow up to crown of earth and sky.
A little enemies to lovers, political intrigue…I can’t wait for book 3!

"Throne of Air and Darkness" by Emberly Ash continues the gripping tale from the Secrets of the Faerie Crown series, picking up right where the first book left off with Veyka's mysterious disappearance. This installment delves even deeper into the struggles of fighting for love amidst adversity. Themes of redemption, fate, and healing from past trauma are explored with a darker tone and mature content, so be sure to check the content warnings. The story features a fierce, protective female lead, intense court politics, a found family dynamic, and representation of mental health, all wrapped up with a compelling romance and a plus-size heroine.

I undoubtedly love the characters and their intricate relationships. The author crafts these characters so vividly that you can’t help but become deeply invested in their journeys and connections. The romance between the main characters is beautifully complex, filled with angst and raw emotion that makes it feel genuine and impactful. Cyara, in particular, has captured my heart—trust me, you’ll understand why if you read it.

While character development is at the forefront, it's also worth noting the story is also driven by a gripping and mysterious plot. The unfolding events surrounding Arthur’s death and the prophecy keep you guessing and engaged. The pacing is dynamic, with plenty of twists to keep you hooked. Be prepared for a cliffhanger ending that will leave you reeling— I was left emotionally overwhelmed, knowing it would be a tough finish but still completely caught off guard.

*Thank you to the author and NetGalley for the ARC.

I requested this book before finishing the first. This series was not for me and I won't be continuing with it. I enjoyed the writing and overall plot, but the romance did not do it for me!

I loved book one in this series and was so excited to continue the journey in book 2.
I love a good romantasy with some strong character and relationship development - and especially some spice

Love love loved this spicy fantasy romance! With that cliffhanger I cannot wait to read book 2.

Who can say no to a 7 foot tall rock solid muscle far prince?? Not me. This book does a great job of being spicy but also allowing the FMC to feel her feels in grief and shape her character.

I would like to thank NetGalley for sending me an ebook copy of this to read and review. I would say I enjoyed this book very much. The world building, characters, dialogue, romance, and plot were enjoyable and fun the read about. I really enjoyed Vekya's journey from being a selfish princess to a formidable queen. I enjoyed her chemistry very much with Arran as well as the banter between them. I really liked how we got to know more characters and that plot twist at the end was incredible.

The continuation of the relationship between the characters took a path I was enthralled to continue reading. The character development of Veyka specifically was so good and exactly what I look for in a fantasy main character. She’s bad ass, flawed, but has a huge heart for her people. The relationship between Veyka and Arran is also unmatched!

I received this book from Netgalley.com and I was expecting to enjoy this book. But sadly I just could not get into it and DF'd and it just felt like it dragged on.

I read book one and it was a 5 stars for me, so naturally I had to read this one!
Overall this one was likely a 4 stars for me, I enjoyed it so much & there were also some slower parts but I am so invested in the story and the ending really caught my attention.

First off, I love our two main characters, Veyka and Arran, and their story together. I loved their character arcs in the first book and I enjoyed seeing further development here as rulers. They really start to come into their roles as rulers! I do tend to get lost in these characters and their story and overall really enjoy how they are written and the overall writing in these books so far!

The world opened up more in this book as we traveled throughout the human realm and it was fun to see different pockets of the world and its behaviors. I will say that we did tend to stay a while in certain areas, and that felt like the story slowed down for me, I would have preferred a faster pace but also really enjoyed the new areas of travel.

The plot in the second book was a bit slower as we stayed in different places and met different characters. It was fun to meet new faces but I do wish we had a bit of the same faster pace as the first novel. The end is difficult and I need to drive into the 3rd one ASAP!

I am having so much fun reading this series, and recommend it to anyone that wants to try a fun new romantasy series!

Really liked learning a bit about Veyka's powers and her round table. I felt that it did drag a bit but there was world building and relationship building that helped with timeline. Leads to a lot more questions and not as many answers. Romance/spice, action, found family, looking forward to book 3.

This was an intense read that left me with more questions. I'm intrigued to see what happens in the next book, which I thankfully have on my eBook shelf. The nods to Arthurian legend were a nice touch and as always Arran and Veyka provided a lot of entertainment!

"Throne of Air and Darkness" by Emberly Ash is the second installment in the "Secrets of the Faerie Crown" series. The novel continues the story of Veyka Pendragon, who finds herself thrust into the role of High Queen of Annwyn, navigating the complexities of faerie politics and dark prophecies.

The book excels in its portrayal of Veyka's character development. From a self-centered individual to a leader willing to protect her realm and allies, her transformation is commendable. The romantic tension between Veyka and Arran Earthborn adds depth to the narrative, exploring themes of love and loyalty amidst chaos.

Ash's world-building is intricate, painting a vivid picture of the faerie realm and its inhabitants. The political intrigue and the looming threat from the human realm keep the reader engaged. The action sequences are well-crafted, providing a good balance of suspense and excitement.

However, the novel falls short in delivering a fresh perspective within the genre. The plot occasionally feels predictable, and the pacing can be uneven, with some sections dragging on unnecessarily. The narrative sometimes gets lost in the details, which can detract from the overall momentum of the story.

-I was back to not liking Veyka for the first part of this book. She was stubborn and annoying and tiresome. I just struggle to connect with her character at times. Again, she got better as the book went on though.
-This book focused a bit more on politics and action than the first book, which I appreciated. It helped to balance out the spice. I enjoyed the prophecy and quest elements. I also enjoyed the expansion of the world-building.
-Multiple POV was a good storytelling choice.
-There was still plenty of steam in this one, but this book had a better balance of spice, romance, and plot. That said, the constant lustful thoughts and comments were a bit distracting from the story/plot even if the level of spice was more balanced in this book.
-I appreciated that the romance was more about developing trust and comfort with vulnerability and allowing themselves to be fully seen and loved for who they are (compared to the first book where it was pretty much all lust)
-There was still some repetitiveness in the writing (ie: mentioning over and over that they are mates), but it didn’t annoy me as much in this one as it did in the first book. I still cringe at the frequent use of “p*ssy”, it’s just not my preferred word choice lol. 🥴
-I did notice that there were numerous typos and grammatical errors throughout the ARC, but they didn’t impact my enjoyment of the book overall. I could see how it might annoy some people though. I’m hoping those were fixed by the release of the final version.

Overall, this was a good read! I think the world-building is really interesting and am enjoying that the plot is getting more complex as well. I enjoyed this book more than the first book and am interested to see where things will go in the next book.

Thank you to Emberly Ash, Victory Editing, and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

At the end of book one, (2.75⭐️ 4🌶️) I was intrigued by the premise of the story. The reimagining of Arthur and Roundtable is always exciting for me. This book definitely encompasses the journeying aspect of the Arthurian legend.

The story picking up immediately after the end of book one. A lot of the lingering questions from book 1 were approached in this book, but so much foreshadowing happened that the twists and turns were expected.

It came to point about 60% through where I just started skimming because I was tired of all of the Spice that didn’t move the plot forward. It was exhausting having every other plot beat be a bedroom/tent spicy scene. I was ready for the plot to move forward and it seems like every time that things started moving, It got stalled out because of this.

I think part of the faded meat trope that makes it harder to do well is that there isn’t enough establishment of one’s self before the trope is included in the plot. I feel like with their meeting bond being foreshadowed so early in the series, it feels like they have been an official couple for quite some time. And so all of the grappling back-and-forth with accepting their mating bond was exhausting and made we want to DNF the book.

The characters are decently flushed out. I love the badass FMC. She was so solid in the first book that I found her wishy-washy in this book. It felt like all the character building and personal growth became completely undone.

The addition of the two new Pov is were fine… But not necessary. I found that it seemed to just be a way to make us not forget about the characters who were left at home. By the time they were introduced, I was already fatigued by the whole story and found myself not invested.

I will not be continuing this series.

Thank you’re NetGalley and Victory Editing NetGalley Co-Op for an arc copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

This book is a significant improvement from book one. The pacing is smoother and more natural, making it easy to get lost in the story. Plus, there's a lot more character development this time around, which adds a new level of depth. The characters really shine as they grow and evolve throughout the book. However, like the first book, this one also packs a big pinch of spice, which might not be everyone's cup of tea. But for those who enjoy a bit of heat in their stories, this aspect will likely be a hit! Overall, "Throne of Air and Darkness" leaves readers eagerly anticipating the next installment. It's a compelling read with smoother pacing and deeper characters to keep you hooked until the very end.

The second book followed the cliffhanger in the first book beautifully and even though I read this book while I was in a reading slump, it did not disappoint and I couldn't put the book down towards the end. Again, it was beautifully written by the author Emberly Ash! The character development of the main characters in this book was spectacular, from Veyka growing to being selfless and a true strong Queen and from Arran showing his soft and caring side for his mate, they balance each other very well! I love the chemistry between these two strong characters! My favourite lines from Arran are "I will find you, Veyka. I will tear apart this world, realm after realm until I find you. I will follow the bond, dig my own heart out of my chest to find that golden thread that connects us, and then I will use it to find you. I will never let you go. Not now, not in a thousand years. I am the greatest power Annwyn has ever seen. No one and nothing can keep you from me. Not even the void." And "I would have waited a thousand years for you to realize what was right in front of you."!! My heart just melts from his words to his mate!! 😭❤️ It was also great to read Parys' and Gwyn's pov in this book, I was just a little thrown off as it was written in a third person pov instead of first like Veyka's and Arran's but it was still refreshing to hear the other character's pov in the book. Also, the loyalty of the characters such as Cyara, Lyrena, Osheen, Maisuri, Parys, and Gwyn to their high queen and king is outstanding! There were a lot of unexpected scenes in the book that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I cannot wait to read the third book! I have received this book from Netgalley. Thank you to Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op for giving me this ARC and Thank you to the amazing author, Emberly Ash for writing this amazing fantasy series!

After finishing Crown of Earth & Sky last week, I needed to dive straight into Throne of Air & Darkness. I needed answers, which I got, but I also ended up with loads more questions & will be reading the next book, Court of Vines & Vipers, next month, because I need more.

As I said in my last review, I love this magic system & the new elements & characters introduced in this instalment really added to the tale. I also loved the additional viewpoints in this book as it opened up more knowledge for the reader.

With several elements, & lives, hanging in the balance, I can't wait to move onto the third book.

I cannot wait for book three! The suspense is real and I need to know what will happen next with Veyka and Arran. The set of supporting characters are just as intriguing to me as the main characters.
