Resisting My Boss by Marion De Re is a fast-paced, steamy romance that follows the evolving relationship between a confident, no-nonsense woman and her infuriatingly attractive (yet somewhat aloof) boss. The novel delves into the dynamics of workplace tension, simmering attraction, and the complexities of power struggles in the corporate world.

The protagonist, Ella, is a smart, determined professional who finds herself constantly at odds with her high-powered boss, Grant. Grant is the classic brooding, distant figure—successful but emotionally unavailable. What begins as a relationship fraught with misunderstandings and professional boundaries quickly heats up as they both find themselves drawn to one another despite their better judgment.

What makes Resisting My Boss stand out in the crowded genre of office romances is its blend of humor, chemistry, and emotional depth. De Re crafts a story that is engaging and full of witty dialogue, while also addressing the internal conflicts both characters face as they navigate their growing attraction. While the plot follows some familiar tropes, the character development adds a layer of nuance, making their eventual romance feel earned and satisfying.

For readers who enjoy a romance with a touch of tension and drama, Resisting My Boss is a fun and engaging read. The balance of lighthearted moments with more serious emotional revelations keeps the narrative compelling, making it a perfect pick for fans of contemporary romance with a workplace setting.

Overall, Marion De Re delivers a well-paced, engaging story that offers plenty of heat and heart.

Grumpy/sunshine workplace romance? Love. It was fast paced and the banter was on point. I didn’t want this story to end and I can’t wait to go back and read the first book in this series

Resisting My Boss was an entertaining read. Lina and Jude have a chemistry that flows easily off the pages and their grumpy/sunshine dynamic makes for fun banter, tension, and a romance that Hallmark wants to option for a movie.

I will say that while I do love spice, there are some books that need it, and Resisting My Boss is one of them. I don't think that the tension and angst works well if there isn't an explosive climax (pun intended) to the romantic storyline. Lina and Jude play off each other so well, so when it's a fade to black the reader is left with a feeling of "that's it?" We have all this build up and sexual tension for a simple kiss? It feels incomplete.

Many thanks to Netgalley and Marion De Re. I received this book in exchange for my honest review.

This book is so cute!! In this book we are following Lina and Jude. Lina is new to London after getting a job as assistant editor-to-chief to Amande, who is a very big deal, at a fashion magazine. One day Lina goes out with a co-worker to a bar and meets Jude. Lina kisses him and at the last minute she leaves without saying goodbye. It's a good thing she does because the very next day Lina finds out that Jude is her new boss and the CEO's son. Jude has to work at Reed Media because it is part of his grandfather's will and to get the thirty-five percent share in the company. Lina and Jude both decide that nothing can happen between them. Lina goes with Jude to fashion week in Milan, London, and Paris. Jude starts to go on dates with models he meets in order to take his mind off Lina. When Lina tries to do the same thing in Paris Jude intervenes and they kiss again. Then when they return Lina ends up with food poisoning. and Jude takes care of her. Jude and Lina decide to start living together and they slowly start to fall for each other. Lina tells Jude about being kidnapped in North Carolina as a child before her parents move to Vermont. Jude tells Lina about being taught how to bake by his grandfather who was more of a father to him than his actual father. One day they are at a meeting at Reed Media and Carson, Jude's father, tries to knock him down and says how disappointed he is and Lina is quick to defend him. Carson realizes they are seeing each other and per company policy they are not supposed to date. To save both of their jobs Jude has Lina move out that night by asking his realtor to find her a place quick. They break up and they are both heartbroken. Lina decides to quiet and get a job at another magazine so that they can be together. Unknown to Lina, Jude is doing the same thing but has decided to go to his father's competitor and gets another women to take his job. Jude announces it at a board meeting and tells his father that he doesn't want to be like him alone and power hungry. Jude announces at the magazine's Christmas party that he is stepping down and Lina decides to tell him the same thing. Ultimately Lina decides to stay at the magazine and her and Jude get back together. This was such a cute and heartworming story. Perfect for the snowy weather.

Lina and Jude met and then Lina ditched him.
Next day he is her new boss and they have many problems.

He is always grumpy and not the boss of the year.

Have fun reading!

I adored this story funny and cute all at the same time with a little bit of spice! I will for sure be purchasing this book. The FMC was relatable for me and the MMC was exactly what I look for in a love interest

This is the first book by Marion De Ré I read, and I really liked it.

It was so fun to live the environment of the fashion magazine's building. Lina and Jude are so good together, I definitely had fun reading this book! I could relate somethings with Lina, so that was a bonus.

If you are looking for a light hearted rom-com or to get out of a reading slump, this book is for you!

I loved this book! I am a sucker for "meet, hit it off, something happens, he happens to be the new boss". That's a trope right? And I am here for it! Their chemistry was off the charts and it was just a delight. It checks all the boxes and will leave you like a nice warm hug!

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this book and i am grateful to the Author for giving me a chance to dig in early!

Resisting My Boss was the first title I have personally read by this Author and I found myself wishing I would have read the first one ahead of this, only to fully grasp the full story of some of the side characters so If you have time, pick that one up ahead of this one!

This story had a slow start for me, I had trouble connecting with both main characters until about halfway through the book but once we got there I was really enjoying their relationship. I think the Author did a great job of bouncing in between scenes that faded to black vs scenes that expanded to detail, although I would have loved a longer story with more Fashion Week details. It took getting 3/4 of the way into the book to fully understand both the FMC and MMC's trauma that explained some of their quirks and backstory.

Overall, the story was a quick and fun read that I think will be enjoyed by a large audience!

This book! It was just so amazing and had my hooked from the minute I started reading

Poor Lina! Imagine hooking up with a guy then ditching him only to start your new job the next morning and finding out that he's your new boss.... eek!!

Thats bad enough but it turns out her boss Jude seems to be holding a grudge and is a bit of a grump!

Such a fun story and very entertaining, I also liked that it was closed door. Highly Recommend!

The story at a glance:

office romance
swoony British accents
off-limit tension
forced proximity
baking lessons that end in food fights
funny banter
closed door/fade to black

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC. It was a short and sweet closed door workplace romance. I likef the speed of progression however the confession took a bit too long for me, overall a 3.5/5 for me!

Lina is an American who has just moved to London to follow her dream of being a part of the fashion industry. So when she goes out for drinks after work with her co-workers and meets a handsome man, life is going perfectly. Until the next morning, when the man from the bar, happens to be her new boss, Jude. He is a workaholic and clashes with Lina constantly. So when the tension builds they realise they are somewhat perfect for each other. They are so supportive of one another and are such relatable characters.

This book is perfect for lovers of:
- workplace romance
- grumpy/sunshine
- forced proximity
- TENSION
- banter
- fades to black

Thankyou to NetGalley for this great book!

This book was so cute! It was fun to live vicariously through Lina as an American living in London and working her dream job at a premier fashion magazine. The setup gave me a little bit of Emily in Paris vibes which I loved!

Jude, having been spurned by a divorce, doesn’t do relationships but can’t help acting like an attentive boyfriend to Lina. Their chemistry and the will-they-wont-they kept me reading to find out what would happen!

ARC REVIEW

I did genuinely enjoy the book, it was quick and easy and gave me Devil Wears Prada vibes with 2 POV from both the main characters.

Only nit pick…!!
It felt as though no thought went into the friendship between the main character, Lina, and brand new ‘work best friend’ Roxy, it was inauthentic and quite forced for what felt like a 2 minute conversation and then they are going to a random party and become best friends??
However, it’s a fast-paced and light-hearted book which doesn’t intend on developing a side-character.

I’d give it a 4/5 stars
Spice rating on the lower end of the scale - 1/5

I have not read the first book in the series, so cannot comment on how that compares - however, it just shows this can be also read as a standalone cosy read.

Thank you NetGalley for the advanced copy 🌟
