This is the sequel to ‘2034’. It’s a strange book to review as it is so different to the first book. The story centres around the huge changes in political life caused by the nuclear war in the US. Technology has advanced so far it is likely to take over the whole of humanity. Who is manipulating this new world and why? This book wasn’t as fast paced as the first, it’s more reflective and therefore slower. We move from US to China to Brazil as all the main characters move around. I didn’t enjoy it as much as the first . Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for an ARC.
I really enjoyed 2034 so was excited to get my hands on this one set a further twenty years into the future.
This was such a thought provoking and rather chilling view offering a speculative view into how the geopolitical landscape, 30 years from now. The authors paint an almost uncomfortably realistic portrayal of how the world may look.
This is the perfect blend of dystopian, literary suspense, action and commentary and a very entertaining read. I would urge potential readers to read 2034 first, while this book could work as a standalone, reading 2034 first will add to the reading experience.
I am not sure if I enjoyed it as much as I did 2034 it was maybe lacking the tension of the first book nonetheless I really liked revisiting the world as painted by these authors. If technology advances as they forsee it, best I read about it now as it will leave behind , 30 years from now!
Recommend.
I enjoyed the first novel by the authors, 2034 and this sequel moves the story on 20 years with some of the same characters, with the addition of their progeny. Authentic writing, this is a frightening though exciting glimpse into the future. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the arc.
