When a young girl goes missing, and a body is found in a nearby pond, Detective Billie Anne Wild is placed on the case.
Above lays the basic plot of Willow Rose’s latest effort, which marks the beginning of a new series. It’s titled Don’t Let Her Go.
This is your run of the mill thriller, with twists and turns that you may see coming. As you read, you’ll be transported from the main timeline to the past, when another girl was kidnapped. It’s pretty easy to keep track of things, for the most part.
Our new heroine is somewhat interesting. She’s coming to terms with her sexuality, and is dealing with familial troubles as a result. These are intertwined throughout the narrative. There are also things from her past that are coming up.
For the most part, the writing is solid, but it’s kind of wooden. Don’t go into this book expecting great prose. You won’t find it. The writing serves the book though, and is definitely serviceable.
In the end, Don’t Let Her Go by Willow Rose is a solid, but unspectacular, novel. It’s not a very original thriller, but it’s entertaining and makes you think a bit, even though parts are a bit predictable.
This review is based on a copy of the book we were provided by NetGalley and the publisher. Receiving a free copy did not sway our opinion.
This is book 1 in a new series featuring Detective Billie Ann Wilde. I really enjoyed it. It sucked me in and I was kept guessing with twists and turns. The chapters from the past were heartbreaking and the hunt for the killer and missing child had me hooked. The end was so tense. I loved Billie Ann’s character and the coming out later in life representation. It showed how hard it can be to hurt your family in order to be yourself. The end with her mum was cute and I look forward to hopefully seeing them grow more as a family.
I received a copy of the ebook via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review
Murder, mystery, coming out, family issues! Excellent all of them! Great new series by an amazing author that just did many of these things with great honesty and love for herself and others.
Willow Rose is a prolific author who manages to keep her readers interested and following to make sure they don't miss a book. She often crosses genre to keep the stories interesting. I've read many of her titles and have yet to find a bad one.
DONT LET HER GO adds a new character/series to her catalog of outstanding characters. Detective Billie Ann Wilde will make some surprising connections as she investigates the disappearance of a young girl. The mother's statements and the clues don't match so she must dig into the family's history, searching for anything that can help. What she finds will set her back into her own history, setting the scene for Det Wilde's renewed commitment to solving this crime before history has a chance to repeat.
A great book to introduce the new Detective Billie Ann Wilde series! The short chapters, the hidden mystery, and the suspense had me flying through the pages. I was completely mesmerized by the storyline, not knowing who to trust and was blindsided by the ending!
The only problem I had with this book was that it mentioned child rape and that’s one of my biggest triggers in books. It’s not described, thank goodness, but it’s implied and I was put off by it. I wish there were trigger warnings stated at the beginning for those of us that cannot read certain subjects.
I enjoyed the characters, and really loved Detective Billy Anne Wilde. I’m hoping the second book, Then She’s Gone, gives us more depth into what will happen to her family.
What a brilliant start to a new series from an absolutely amazing author! Loved this wonderful book. Full of twists that keep you glued to the page. Five worthy stars.
This was a quick and pretty fast paced book. I don't generally enjoy detective-oriented books, but the premise of this was to good to pass up. There were a lot of elements to this book, and I was impressed with how everything tied together at the end. I do think having so many POV's took away from the book. I think it could have done completely without Ashley's and Marissa's (at least until the end). Hopefully we won't have to wait to long for the next book!
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC.
Don't Let Her Go is the first book in Willow Rose's brand new Detective Billie Anne Wilde series. It's the kind of fast paced suspense, with plenty of heart, that I've come to expect and love from this author.
Detective Billie Ann Wilde has caught the case of a young girl who's missing. But when she gets to her home there's no sign that a little girl ever lived there. Billie wants to know what her mother is hiding. The clock is ticking. Will she be able to put all the pieces together before it's too late?
TW for child abuse (not greatly detailed but could turn you away). With that being said, one of the best mysteries I’ve read! I was so intrigued by all the questions my mind had that I couldn’t put the book down. The plot and characters were very developed. I couldn’t even take a guess at the next twist until the end. Multiple POVs. Highly recommend!
Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for the chance to read Don't let her go, book 1 of Detective Billie Ann Wilde by Willow Rose. This was a great introduction to a new series, with a strong female main character. The chapters are fairly short, with two timelines. This was my introduction for this author, and I will definitely look forward to the next book.
This is the first book I’ve read by this author but it’s so good it definitely won’t be the last.
The case was twisty, dark, disturbing and really heartbreaking.
I loved how the story was split between the case and Billie’s personal life and I was so surprised when they both intertwined near the end!.
My heart really felt for Billie and Marisa the most in this story, they’re both dealing with life changing events but they keep going on fighting back.
The small town vibe really appeals to me in these kind of books and I’m so excited to see what’s next in this new series
This book kept my attention the entire time!! I had a hard time putting it down! I really enjoyed reading it
What a great start to a new series.
Detective Billie Ann Wilde, head of the Cocoa Beach homicide division, is tasked with finding four year old Emma, who had disappeared from her family home, but there was no trace of Emma ever existing. Billie Ann was given one week by her boss to find the child that he thought was a figment of her mother's imagination, but Billie Ann's gut was telling her otherwise.
When the murdered body of a young girl was found Billie Ann quickly found a link between her and the missing child, what was the mother hiding ? who was she afraid of ?
This story is told over two timelines that are melded together at the end
Billie Ann is like no other detective that I have ever read about and this being the first book in the series the author has taken a great deal of time giving a background to her explosive homelife and the devastation that she is about to bring on her family, having said that, Billie Ann is also fanatical about her job, she will uphold the law whatever the cost, and the cost is high.
I enjoyed this book but it does have a few disturbing triggers to be aware of, I did guess the outcome but there were still some surprises and I look forward to reading more about feisty, courageous but troubled Billie Ann.
I received a free copy of this book and my review is voluntary.
Don't Let Her Go is the first book in the Billia Anne Wilde series. It's a good foundation story, Billie is an interesting character and she has a good backstory. This can easily be developed further in the series.
Willow Rose has put her heart and personal thoughts into this story. Billie Ann has come out as gay after being married with kids for years. Which is something that Willow herself has done.
Billie's chapters are told from a first person point of view, we see the story unfolding through her eyes. This way we get a deeper connection to her, as we get to experience her thoughts and feelings.
We are drip fed information throughout making this a good mystery. The Then narrative plays perfectly into this concept as we try to piece together everything.
The pacing of the story was good. A slow start, building up the story and the characters. And as the story comes together the pace quickens up.
I really enjoyed being left on cliffhangers at the end of chapters, only to then chop to another point of view and having to wait to find out what the outcomes will be.
A great start to the series and I can't wait to find out what happens next.
I enjoyed this fast paced, twisted and harrowing police mystery. I flew through the short chapters. I thought it was intriguing, mysterious, dark, and sad but also hopeful.
I really appreciated when the author wrote at the end of the book that her personal love life helped inspire the main character’s in this book. It helped put things into perspective. She also mentioned that the infamous true crime story of Jaycee Lee Dugard and her life in captivity helped inspire the storyline, which I found very interesting.
Overall, I enjoyed my first book by this author and look forward to reading more of her work.
I can’t imagine the fright and anguish a parent endured when their child is lost or missing.
I thought. Marissa was very proactive but couldn’t put the pieces together until way late in the story.
The flashbacks to Kitty were disturbing and sometime hard to read.
I didn’t agree with Billie Ann’s decision about her husband and something he confesses to doing.
I wrestled with the main character a lot in this book.
The series is off to a strong beginning.
Was so happy to get a new character from Willow Rose. Book was an easy read and kept your interest. The twists were good and kept you guessing
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookcouture for the eARC.
Unfortunately, this one just wasn't for me. It was slow to start, but did eventually pick up. For me I found almost all characters unlikeable. Just not one I really loved.
Don’t Let Her Go by Willow Rose is the first book in her new series, Detective Billie Ann Wilde.
Detective Billie Ann is trying to find a killer and a kidnapper all while dealing with her own drama at home.
The beginning of this book, I felt jumped around so much it was hard to keep up. But at about 40% through it clicked and I knew every twist and turn. It was pretty predictable and a lot of stuff going on every where.
There are many trigger warnings as well
**** trigger warning***
Child abuse
Sexual abuse
Cancer
Over all I would give it a 3.5 and I would probably try the second in the series to see how it goes.
Thanks to NetGalley for an advance copy for an honest review.
I enjoyed Don’t Let Her Go a lot. I liked the fact the chapters move between the current case and the past when a teenager called Kitty goes missing and is used as a baby farm for her twisted captors. The chapters set in the past are quite hard to read at times as at first Kitty loves the man who rapes her and sees him and his wife almost as her family. There were some chilling moments. This is the kind of thriller I love, full of twists and turns and with more questions than answers. The pacing is spot on. I flicked the pages desperate to know the link between the past and present and how everything would come together. I also liked Billie, she’s very real and human and comes to life on the page. I’d recommend Don’t Let Her Go.
