Amazing!! This one is a bit shorter, or just seemed that way. I love that we get to go to so many worlds in this one. The characters are wonderful, and some of my faves are in this one.
There are two things to know going into this ninth novella of the series:
1) There are almost no dinosaurs in this. Maybe one chapter? When you put a dinosaur on the cover of a book your readers are bound to expect, you know, dinosaurs!
2) Unlike some of the early novellas in this series, you will want to read all of the previous ones before this one. You might be able to skip one or two; but I wouldn’t. There are a lot of callbacks!
Mislaid is a direct sequel to the one before (Antsy is the lead character again), we have Sumi, Cora, Chris and all the others along the way again as well. Plus a larger number of worlds are entered or discussed throughout. I would hate for the magic to be lost on anyone because they hadn’t enjoyed the previous books. So, if this is your first knowledge of this series, go back to book one (Every Heart a Doorway) and read away!

It’s always fascinating with the Wayward Children if you’re going to get a story that directly follows up on the last one or a new kid’s story. This is one of the entries that follows up directly on the last book and wraps Antsy’s story. There’s also some real fascinating side strands - Cora finally finds her door home! The walking charisma vampire at the school! Not my favorite in the series but still lovely. Also - DINOSAURS. The narrator really leans hard into Antsy's vibes too, and it's really fun.

Really liked this installment in the Wayward Children series. I love how diversity is woven into each story.

Nine books later and I still love this series. While this certainly lacks the magic of the first three (maybe four) books, I find I still enjoy following these kids' lives. The audio narration is fantastic! I received an advance copy of this book for review, all opinions are my own.

Best series ever IMO. I will read, buy, and recommend them all. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher.

I love Antsy so much! I love that she got to go to Eleanor's school and meet the crew. This one did make me cry. The end set up for the next book that I need this very minute. This is one of my absolute favorite series. I will read it over and over. The narration was so so good! Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the audio arc in exchange for my honest review.

This was an emotionally tumultuous journey, the author guides us through the story, at times dramatically and at other times delicately. The narrator is phenomenal, the accent and enunciation really brings the story to life. This is a tale that begs to be told and shared, it would be a great pick for bookclubs too!

I am obsessed with this series by Seanan McGuire. I loved listening to this audiobook and can't wait for the next book.

I have enjoyed this series since the beginning, and while some of the books were a miss for me-- this one is one of my favourites out of them all.
I really enjoyed following Antsy and having everyone work together and really get to see the characters interact was the best part of the novella for me. I hope the next one is as good as this one

Antsy's story picks up from the end of book 8. So while the other books in this series could be read as a stand-alone, I would recommend not reading this one out of order.

Without spoiling too much, Antsy has come to Eleanor West's school and meets the students there who have been in other books. She spends much of the book trying to adjust to life at the school. When some students find out what Antsy's gift/talent is, Antsy has to quickly get away from the school. A few of the kids come with her to learn more about how the Doors work.

Book 8 "Lost in the Moment and Found" was one of my favorite books of last year, and I have reread it too While I loved catching up with all the characters, especially Antsy, I think the pacing threw my enjoyment off a bit. A lot of time is spent at the school prepping and adjusting with little to no action. Only the last 25% or so is more of an adventure. Due to that, I didn't get as many dinosaurs as I expected (due to the cover) and it felt in general more like the middle of a novel rather than a novella. However, like I said I appreciated learning more about the characters we already love and especially the lore and rules of the Doors. So while it wasn't a favorite of the series, it is worth picking up particularly if you like Antsy.

Getting to revisit some of the fan-favorite characters in this latest installment brought me great joy. The newest character, Antsy, was a good balance to the other characters that readers already know about from the series since she is a more lawful good nature. I loved the minor characters we got to see as well and the descriptions of all the different worlds that the children step through in order to find the right door. I also think that the message being told in this story great and emphasizes the importance of bettering yourself for your own benefit rather than anyone else's. I would definitely recommend this book for someone wanting a light whimsical read and enjoys a little bit of chaos.

Thank you to Macmillan Audio and Netgalley for allowing me to listen to this book in exchange for my honest opinion. I highly enjoyed Mislaid in Parts Half-Known by Seanan McGuire. I've loved this series since the very beginning and it only keeps getting better as it goes along.

Full of magic, whimsy and some light emotional punches, Mislaid in Parts Half-Known was a great ninth installment of the Wayward Children series. Long book series are a hit or miss for me but, the world building and character development in McGuire’s stories always leave me wanting more and still have yet to disappoint me.

This book once again follows Antsy as she navigates life after being forced out of the Shop Where the Lost Things Go. I enjoyed continuing her storyline and seeing her continue to grow as she made hard decisions and learned to accept the help of friends. As always with this series, this book had the feeling of fairytale with drops of humor and a loose poetic writing style.

I can’t wait for the next book and recommend this series to anyone who needs a little magic or has ever dreamed of escaping to a new world.

“Welcome home”

Oh Seanan you big big jerk. This was glorious and perfect. I don’t know how many more adjectives I need to say to make that more obvious. Every year I reread each new installment at least twice and every time I just wanna reread the whole series because it continues to get better. This one did feel like it was beating the message over the head a little too obviously, but it was still lovely.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Once again, a great addition to the series! I loved Ansty and her house of lost things so I was more than happy to listen about this world again. Like almost all of them, couldn't recommend more.

I liked this one and the fact that it felt like a continuation for Antsy. I do think the cover is misleading because we spend no time in the dinosaur world. Overall, I love these worlds but just wish we spent more time in them. There is always a good message though.

Thank you to the publish and NetGalley for the review copy.

I love this series, some entries more than others; however, I'm really glad that we got more of Antsy's story with this one. I also loved the inclusion of more of the other children. I cannot wait for the next one.

Rating 4.5/5

Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for a copy of this ebook.

The Wayward Children are back and all set for another adventure! Seanan McGuire’s imagination is unrivaled. This series has been so fun and I look forward to every release.

When the students at Eleanor’s dis over Antsy can find anything - including doors - Antsy flees along with some of our favourite wayward children into the first door Antsy can find. Antsy begins her journey back to her world, The Shop Where The Lost Things Go, so she can find out if the shop keepers are keeping their promise to warn the children who end up there that opening doors has a cost. Along the way we enter other worlds and learn a powerful lesson about breaking cycles of abuse. Sadly there was not much time spent with dinosaurs despite the author’s description and the cover.

I think the message in this book is beautiful and an important one but ultimately I really would have liked more magic and story telling than hearing Antsy scream about how unfair the Shop was.

This was my least favourite book in the series but I do love this series all the same and will be watching for the next one

This series by Seanan McGuire has always been very unique in it's storytelling method and this book in the series is no different. The characters are always unique and I love exploring the new perspectives on their personalities.
