It's a sweet, sad story filled with hope and a little tragedy.
The element of mystery definitely kept me hooked on. And it all seemed more chill than what was actually revealed.
Olympia and Spencer's story was touching, especially the way they reconnected regardless of the past or the present unfortunate circumstances. And Spencer's parents' acceptance of Olympia this time around made me feel glad for her.

A favorite author! Excellent character development, settings and plot. Strong , caring women and irresistible male characters. Highly recommend!!
This book brought me comfort with its simplicity and wishfulness. The promise of tomorrow spoke to my wanderlust heart and had me dreaming of soaking up all the sunshine on the vast field.
As a longtime reader of Mary Ellen Taylor, I began this book knowing I was about to embark on an emotional journey. Though the format of this novel is slightly different from her other novels, in know way did it disappoint. Weโre taken through past family tragedies while new and future challenges come up that are all Mary Ellen Taylorโs specialty. Lost loves, family history, unthinkable tragedies all await in this fantastically-written novel.
Iโd like to thank Mary Ellen Taylor, Montlake Publishing, and NetGalley for affording me the wonderful opportunity to read and review this novel.
The book contained some very heavy subjects that involved families and relationships. It was written in alternating chapters between the two main characters who were going through a divorce. The main female character was strong and resilient on the outside but also had a caring heart, which sometimes was almost the demise of her and her relationships. The male character was caught up in his own familyโs health problems and spent more time dealing with that than trying to put his marriage back together. The book had tough, subjects and showed the many sides of grief and how everyone responds to the steps of going through grief different. There was some small sparkles of hope that glimmered throughout the book and a slight bit of a mystery that kept this book moving quickly. Even though the book was sad, it was a fantastic read and I thought it was nice to finally read a book that showed that everything in life doesnโt always have to be sunshine and rainbows. I was given an advance copy of the book in exchange for an honest opinion of the book. Thank you to the author, Montlake and NetGalley for allowing me to read this beautiful, compelling story of family, love and grief.
I absolutely flew through this book.
It was a VERY sad read, but a lot of the depressing subjects are revealed in stages as you read so you do not feel so dejected that you don't want to keep going.
There were a couple things that really bugged me about the book, like characters taking choices away from each other and a couple miscommunication tropes. Other than that, I really enjoyed this book.
I found the main character, Olympia, to be very likeable but the people around her definitely take advantage of her. Her growth in the story was clear, and I loved her progression from severely grieving to finally learning how to cope.
The romance honestly was not what intrigued me about this book, but I was pleasantly surprised even though their story moved very fast.
My favorite part about this story was the mystery. This aspect is what kept me engaged for the whole book. The author is able to describe parts of the story so beautifully, and you learn little facts and clues as you go on that allows your brain to put things together (which is really fun). Beautiful is the word I would use to describe this book overall. The writing is masterful, and there are some quotes and tidbits that I highlighted in the book to go back to. The emotional themes that are most prominent in the book are grief, marital and family relationships, and dream chasing/fulfillment.
Another much loved book by this author. I loved the setting, the characters. and the story line. The main character (Olympia) returns to her home town In Virginia to deal with unresolved events that she left behind after a lost child and failed marriage. Readers will love this latest novel by this popular author.

Thank you to NetGalley and Montake for the ARC! I really hope this book gets the recognition it deserves. Really enjoyed reading this book. The main character could be a little irritating at times but it made the book. Loved all the characters and will defiantly read more by this author. The story will also give you all the feelings a book can give a reader (well it did for this reader).
Will recommend!
The Promise of Tomorrow by Mary Ellen Taylor is a story about the many dimensions of love: parents and children, siblings, spouses, loves lost, loves found. Written in alternating chapters about a couple on the verge of divorce Ms. Taylorโs descriptive prose takes the reader through the highs and lows of their bittersweet journey. There also is a little mystery included that will keep readers totally engaged in discovery. This reviewer loved this book! I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy from NetGalley. Most highly recommend.
Another well-written, emotional tale by Taylor that tugged at my heart. This book was extremely sad yet empowering and endearing at the same time. Everyone's journey through grief is different, but this story felt so real to me. The author did a great job capturing that hopeless desperation and letting it hang over you through the pages. My heart just broke for Olympia. I was hoping for a little more at the end. After all of the dread and despair that I felt while reading, I wanted to feel more happiness. But I guess that's life and it isn't always sunshine and rainbows. Overall, a good read and I would definitely recommend!
