Loved It! From the first page to the last you will spellbound by The Promised Heart. Paula Quinn's stories are always interesting with characters with diversity of personalities who manage to grow and yet retain their individualities which captivates you from the beginning until the very end. It's emotional ride that keeps you turning the pages, passion, intrigue and a journey for both Lady Tanon and Prince Gareth as they learn to trust and believe in one another.

Could Love Withstand the Test of Time and Treachery?
Tanon fell in love with Gareth when she was six. He was her champion from the beginning. However, betrothals and treacheries would separate them. When Gareth made it back to her, Tanon was not sure she wanted to wed a barbarian, but was her champion truly savage? He did rescue her from a betrothal to a man she despised. The two would marry, but they would have challenges ahead. There would be treachery that would make Tanon question her new life.
Could childhood awe and infatuation turn into enduring love? Would love and loyalty win over treachery and deceit? Could Tanon forgive being used as a pawn? I enjoyed this book and the entire series.
This is my first Paula Quinn novel and I very much enjoyed her writing style and the unique setting for the story. It was a journey for the HEA but ultimately I was happy at the end.
The daughter of one of King William's knights becomes the pawn in a game of peace with the Welsh. One summer at six years old, she bonds with one of the Welsh prince's nephews who is ten. Thirteen years later, the nephew is a prince himself and a powerful warrior. He returns to Winchester to take her as his wife. What follows is a woman caught in a fight for war or peace and finding love. Mild descriptive sex.

The characters were well-developed and I really liked Talon's character who was a so headstrong and willful. The story has a nice combination of romance, drama, danger, and intrigue and it was a very entertaining and enjoyable story. The characters were great and I really enjoyed seeing them together. The author did a nice job of creating intrigue and interest with the characters and I enjoyed following their story. Another noteworthy addition to the series!

The Promised Heart by Paula Quinn starts off when Lady Tanon Risdale is six years old and the target for a bully and his comrades until one day when an older boy, Gareth, comes to her rescue. She would never tattle on the boys to William (the Conquerer) the king, but Gareth sure did. Gareth’s uncle, Prince Rhys ap Tewdwr, had appeared at the castle for peace talks. The way of bonding the treaty was through a betrothal, so Tanon found herself betrothed to Gareth’s older brother, Cedric, who appeared to be as unkind as the bully, Roger deCourtney. But she was six. She didn’t worry for long. Then, years later, Cedric was banished from his uncle’s kingdom, so the betrothal was over. Instead, her father and William betrothed her to the dreaded Roger. At least he lived close by. Then, one day a troop of wild looking soldiers appeared. It was lead by a god of a man who turned out to be her childhood protector, Gareth, who was not dead as they had heard. He wanted the peace treaty and he wanted her. He was willing to fight deCourtney who didn’t really want her but did want her dowry. She was not all that happy about going to Wales, but she was obedient and did what was necessary.
This was truly a love story that took years to come to fruition. As she spent time with Gareth, she fell in love but was really surprised when she arrived at his home and found it was not a castle, but a cottage, much like those of his people. That they loved him was obvious. She was insecure. There were women here who smiled at him. Could he ever love her? Gareth was smart. He always anticipated. He usually anticipated correctly. His closest friend was Madoc and when he appeared to turn on Gareth she was beyond angry. She could not allow this. She would warn him. Gareth loved her but he could not order her about. She would not allow it. This was a warm and somewhat accurate account of what Wales was like in medieval times. The reader didn’t know what Gareth was thinking much of the time so many of his actions came as surprises, although they shouldn’t have. What a fabulous book!

A rollercoaster of emotions. I’ve never read just an action filled historical romance. I’m trying to get more into historical romances and I think the action helped me enjoy this a lot more than I was expecting to. This is part of a series but can be read as a standalone.
There is something about reading about the men from the past. They are so tough and rugged but they all have a different side to them, a softer side that makes you really want to be apart of their world. Gareth is no different, loving one for many years. His patience with Tanon is hilarious. She is such a spitfire but also so naive in the ways of marriage. Gareth with his battling skills that are amazing, they way he moves and his tenderness is lucky to have Tanon and vice versa.
Being the most treasured goddaughter of William the Conqueror usually means Tannon can do what she likes. Unfortunately it also means she has a high political value in marriage.
The Welsh people are fiercely independent, especially the various Princes. One has lived with war most of his life and only wants one thing more than peace.
This is an all action historical romance. The characters are fabulous and very easy to fall in love with. You might have met a few of them in previous books, but that won't interfere with enjoying this one. There are a few steamy scenes and some brutal fight scenes. This book is very hard to put down and I can't wait for the next one in the series.
I loved it.
A Highly Emotional Romance:
We first meet Tanon as a child along with a small glimpse of Garth.
Many years later their friendship becomes much more involved and a beautiful totally engrossing romance story takes hold and will not let go until the dramatic, exciting and rewarding HEA ending.
I loved the characters especially the charismatic Gareth. Tanon who sometimes I thought was childish but overall, another captivating character.
There are many characters that made this story compelling and interesting. There are so many back stabbings and betrayals it's hard to imagine a love story right smack in the middle of such conflicts, but there is an emotional, passionately desirous romance that has the pages smoking. Many swoon worthy situations kept my attention glued to each of those pages.
An enjoyable part of the book was some of the old Saxton and Norman customs that were presented throughout the story.
Special Mention: Madoc's character. He added a lot to this story and the ending for him was brilliantly written.
I truly enjoyed this story and hope Madoc will soon be heard from again.
✔Cover: Beautiful. A small glimpse of the handsome warrior Garth in the shadows.
✔Cover: 1 con. Tanon in the story has raven curly hair not strait. (A pet peeve of mine)
✔Mature Advisory
A powerful story set within Welsh history. Garth and Taron must find their way through the political landmines that encompass them. Garth is a powerful character who is determined to gain the love of Taron, someone he has loved since childhood. Taron realizing she is being used as a political pawn in a powerful chess game must decide how to venture forward and retain the love she desires. I loved the detail related to Welsh history and both the dialogue/banter that took place. Very well written, moved at a good constant pace and a page turner from beginning to end.
Pushed around like a chess piece on a board, Lady Tanon is firstly betrothed to one barbaric suitor, then another that is even worse, until Prince Gareth stakes his claim after winning a tournament against the man she despises. He may be barbaric, but Gareth has loved Tanon ever since he knew her as a small girl who answered the call of his heart. Tanon loved Gareth, even though she was only a child when he first rescued her, but the barbarian that stands before her on her wedding day is another matter altogether. Returning to the wilds of Wales with the Prince brings danger and possible treason against the Crown, but Gareth not only wins her trust but her heart as well. Unfortunately in a period of time when the jockeying for power brings about unexpected retribution, Tanon finds herself caught up in the plans of men who have ulterior motives. However, the one thing Tanon is sure of is that Gareth has had her heart ever since the day he rescued her from the meanspirited Roger deCourtenay. Discovering that she is a pawn in the strategies being played out angers Tanon, but ultimately she comes to understand just how important her role is in the quest for peace. I found the author's take on William the Conqueror interesting because she portrays him as a generous and kind man, which resulted in me Googling the uncompromising king. What both shocked me and made me laugh was his death and the aftermath. The novel comes to a beautiful and warmhearted conclusion. I received a copy of this romance as a gift through Dragonblde Publishing and NetGalley and this is my honest and voluntary review.
A light and easy read with a perfect perfect MMC in Gareth. Oh swoon. If only we could all find our own Gareth in our lives.
Loved It!
Wow this author portrays passionate compelling characters throughout this storyline! From the first page I was hooked.
Ooh! Gareth is such a hero with his swoon-worthy actions, it makes your heart beat fast and sigh at the romance of it all!
As with every great story there is action, betrayal, sizzling chemistry with steamy and witty moments and this hits them all.
Highly recommended read!
