For a Lifetime by Gabrielle Meyer

Another fantastic installation of the Timeless series.

If you are new to the Timeless series, each book has a person (or persons) that are living in different timelines. When they go to sleep in one they wake up in another. Once they reach a certain age they must choose which life to keep and which to forfeit.

The timelines in this novel 1692, Salem Witch Trials, and 1912, beginning of aviation and the Titanic 😱.

I absolutely adore this series and loved this book as much as the others. I’d find myself holding my breath and biting my nails wondering how things would turn out. There are strong themes of faith and hope woven throughout.

The romance is sweet and swoony and played out exactly how I wanted. I’ve already gone back and read a few of my favorite scenes 😏.

I would suggest reading these in order. Each book is worth it and they build so well on each other.

What a ride!! This book was full of ups and downs and so many twists I didn’t see coming. I loved the characters and loved the different timelines. I was so stressed but knew it would work out. Absolutely loved this historical fiction.

Gabrielle Meyer’s Timeless series is perfect if you, like me, are interested in too many different eras of history and can’t find time to read about them all! For a Lifetime, the third book in the series, follows twin sisters Grace and Hope as they navigate life in 1692 Salem and 1912 New York. I went through a phase where I was obsessed with the Salem Witch Trials, and this novel really made me realize how truly awful it would have been to have lived back then — I’m glad I can just read about it! But, this story is also full of hope and understanding, and shows you how to see good where it seems like there’s only evil.

I found the romance element in this book to be slightly lacking, as so much of the story was focused on the twins’ adventures in two different worlds. The romance is still there, but its arc is not the focus of the story.

I’m super excited for book four, which is all about pirates and gangsters! 4/5 stars

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

I loved the other two books in this series and this one was no different! For a Lifetime was one of my most anticipated reads of the year and it was amazing!

I absolutely loved getting to know Maggie’s twins! (Maggie is the MC in book 2 in this series, In This Moment).
I loved Grace and Hope! They were so wonderfully different from each other in their personalities as well as their goals and dreams. I did relate to Grace the most and I felt like she was a kindred spirit.
I loved the sister-relationship dynamics in this story so, so much!

While this story focuses on the sisters, there was romance as well and it was so beautifully written. I loved Luc and Isaac though Luc was probably my favorite. I won’t say much because I don’t want to spoil it so you’ll have read the book to find out who ends up with who. I was very happy with how everything ended up.🥰

This book was an emotional journey for sure. I didn’t know how it was going to end. There were so many twists and turns which I loved. I really couldn’t put the book down!
This story was emotional and inspiring. I loved the faith content throughout. It brought so much light and hope to this story, especially since this story is set during some really dark times for those who lived in Salem, Massachusetts during the late 1600s. While I found this history disturbing to read about, the faith in God these characters had really brought light to the story.

In conclusion, I loved this book! I love historical fiction that has faith and a unique plot so I have loved the Timeless series so much. I loved getting glimpses of characters from the previous books in this one! It was so much fun to see them again.❤️
While I would highly recommend reading the first two books in this series before reading this one, this book could definitely be read as a stand-alone.
If you’re looking for an unputdownable historical fiction read that includes time-travel, faith, and sister-relationship dynamics, I think you will really like this book!

*Thank you to the publisher for sending me a complimentary copy! All opinions are my own.

This one had me HOOKED and it was i wasn’t expecting to get hit in the feels.

First, the Salem Witch Trial representation felt so HEARTWRENCHING. Gabrielle Meyer captured this feeling of being stuck in a horrible cycle with no way out in sight. Where the ones who saw through the lies were silenced by fear. It was hard to read!

The 1912 NYC setting was fantastic, I loved the airplanes and female pilot storylines. It had my heart pounding and was definitely my favorite chapters to read!

Hope was a fiery, reckless FMC who lived life for herself, chasing the highs and adventure.

Grace was the opposite. Her quiet strength and protectiveness instantly drew me to her! And her romance was my absolute FAVORITE! I loved it so so much.

If I had to critique anything, I wanted a touch more romance/chemistry.

I adore this series and was so excited to read the third book. I think the time traveling world Meyer has created is just so unique and fun to read about. The twins traveling in this novel, Grace and Hope, go between 1692 and 1912, which gave lots of interesting plot points. I found the Salem Witch Trials plot to be so sad and heavy - which these events were and the author captured this well. I was fascinated with the women pilot line of the 1912 plot. I did find this story to take some time to get going, but once I got to the halfway mark, things started to pick up for me. Like the other books, the characters question their romantic interests, faith, and familial ties when trying to decide what time to stay in. I was invested in this story, and I can't wait for the next one that's coming out this fall.

EXCEEDED MY EXPECTATIONS!!!!

I was so excited to read this book from Gabrielle Meyer. She has been on my TBR for her Timeless book series for a while but I never got around to it. But this book? When I read the blurb I was instantly hooked and even though I expected it to be good, I was still blown away with how good it was. This should be a book review but it’s really just a book appreciation, book adoration, book obsession post 😍😍😍

Gabrielle Meyer has written a Christian fiction novel with such creativity and class! It was such a good read - from the building romances, to the drama with the Salem witch trials and the excitement of the cross-country airplane flight? It was incredible. I loved the little peaks into previous books from the series which I still plan to read.

When people say that Christian fiction is corny or boring, these are the kind of books I pull for proof that when it’s written for the glory of God, books are better than their secular (even clean) counterparts. The premise of this book is so creative and the twists and turns mean that it’s not cliche or predictable in the LEAST. I’m not the hugest fan of historical fiction, but even I couldn’t tear myself away from this captivating story.

Can't wait to read more!!!

In a Nutshell: The third book of the wonderful ‘Timeless’ series. Historical fiction with excellent research and intriguing timeslip elements that make you feel like you are reading two stories at once! Christian without feeling preachy. Strongly recommended! Though it can be read as a standalone, better to go in the right order and experience the brilliance of the entire series.

Plot Preview:
Grace and Hope are identical twin sisters who have inherited their mother Maggie’s timecrossing abilities. The twins thus switch between 1692 Salem, Massachusetts and 1912 New York City. (If you’ve read the earlier books, you know how they timecross. I won’t repeat the same info!) Their twenty-fifth birthday is just a few months away, and by then, they need to decide which life they want to continue in. With the Salem Witch trials and the drudgery of their existence in 1692, and with 1912 offering opportunities of a lifetime for Hope’s dreams of becoming an aviatrix and Grace’s journalistic aspirations, their choice is clear – they want to live in 1912. But is life ever that easy?
The story comes to us in the first-person perspective of both twins, alternating between the timelines.

The first book of this series, ‘When the Day Comes”, entered my life in May 2022 and blew me away with its innovative premise and intelligent plotting. A year later came the second book, “In This Moment”, which was also fabulous but had a little too much romance and politics for my liking. This third book, a May 2024 release, takes the series back to the original high!

After two books about a timecrossing central character, I honestly believed that this third volume wouldn’t have much to surprise me with. After all, in how many ways can an author write about one person living two lives in two separate time periods? I openly declare: I was wrong!

Bookish Yays:
🥳 Again beginning by doffing a hat to the creativity of the series in terms of how its main characters get multiple simultaneous lives. Love this innovative premise!
🥳 A wonderful combo of historical fiction, timeslip, romance, and Christian fiction, but historical fiction is clearly the dominant genre.
🥳 The fresh feel of the plot despite being the third entry of the series. This book doesn't waste much time in introductions about the timecrossing, but jumps directly to the action.
🥳 The novelty of knowing right at the start which timeline the lead characters prefer. So the central conflict this time isn’t their decision over which life to choose but the challenges in their Salem lives until they can bid that era goodbye.
🥳 Grace and Hope are deserving main characters. As twins with contrasting personalities but with a strong bond, their interplay impacts the story as much as the external events do.
🥳 This series always has first-person writing, but for the first time, the first-person perspective is from two distinct characters. Each narration is well handled, as the twins’ individual personality comes out strongly through their voice.
🥳 Unlike in Book Two, the circumstances in the twins’ two lives are contrary to each other in almost every way. This makes each timeline feel distinct. The timelines aren’t politically intensive, so thankfully, I wasn’t affected by my limited knowledge of American politics.
🥳 The historical research is impeccable, further explained by the historical note at the end, detailing the author’s writing choices and the factual elements intermingled in the fictional content. Don’t miss reading her parting note as well.
🥳 The Salem timeline left me so uncomfortable! I’ve never seen this side of the witch trials portrayed, so reading that timeline felt quite claustrophobic at times, which is an indicator of how visceral the writing is. (Note that this timeline gets quite dark, so you better pick the book up when you are in a strong headspace.)
🥳 The aviation details in the 1912 timeline are equally stunning.
🥳 There is a romantic entanglement in both timelines (which is fine because this is marketed as a Christian historical romance), but this is focussed on only to the extent necessary. The love stories never overpower the core plot.
🥳 The Christian elements are exactly as I like them – focussing on Christian actions than on spouting biblical verses. The two timelines are quite opposites in faith, with dogmatism and rigidity being the hallmark of the Puritan era. The true test of faith is in times of trouble, and both the twins’ lives depict this well.
(Note: Conservative believers might not be happy with some of the content in this book. But as a liberal believer, I didn’t find anything offensive or awkward.)
🥳 The ending – practically perfect in how it ties all the arcs together, with a special guest appearance as well.

Bookish Mixed Bags:
😐 As there is only one way this story could end, there is a greater element of predictability this time. I still love how the plot proceeded, but I wish there had been some suspense about the final resolution.
😐 The tempo is slightly on the slower side, especially in the first half, but I don’t mind this much. The story merits a gentle-paced development because of how intricate the subplots were, and it still progresses steadily enough without dawdling or rambling.
😐 There are many interesting secondary characters, but because the two leads get so much coverage, the rest don’t get that much page space. Maggie and Graydon, the twins’ parents, also have a relatively limited role in the story they are barely there in the first half! Of the two romantic partners, Luc was good but Isaac was too goody-goody. I am not sure if his portrayal stands accurate to the era he lived in. (On an aside, I am also not sure how there was no eyebrow raised in either timeline about the girls interacting with men without any chaperone around. I thought this was a prerequisite in both those eras; I could be wrong about this.)

All in all, this series has mostly been a delight! The three books I’ve read so far have offered plenty of insights, introspection, and joy. As a historical fiction lover, I find it delightful that each book offers me more than one historical timeline to indulge in.
This time, the climax offers no direct clue about where the next book will go and whom it will focus on! But I know that it is already in the works, and set for a November 2024 release. Only a six-month wait this time – woohoo!!! (There is an excerpt of Book Four, “Across the Ages”, provided at the end of this one, but I never read excerpts. I’d rather experience the whole story fresh and at one go.)
Heartily recommending this to all historical fiction lovers who don’t mind mild Christian content in the writing. With its intricate plotting and exceptional historical research, ‘Timeless’ is one of my favourite series. While each book functions as a standalone, I’d recommend reading the series in order so as to avoid spoilers about the earlier novels.

4.5 stars.

My thanks to Bethany House and NetGalley for the DRC of “For a Lifetime”. This review is voluntary and contains my honest opinion about the book.

For a Lifetime
Timeless #3
By Gabrielle Meyer

Grace and Hope are twin sisters who have inherited their mother's ability to live in two different time periods. But living in 1692 Salem, Massachusetts, is dangerous for anyone accused of witchcraft While living in 1912 is full of freedoms and experiences that can't be found in 1692.

Every night Grace and Hope time-cross, rather than dreaming they live a day in one of their "times". In 1692, they're treated like servants in their father's tavern. While in 1912, Hope is a pilot, and Grace is a newspaper reporter. With months until their 25th birthday, they know where they want to live their futures. But some choices aren't ours to make, as they discover when something changes everything.

For a Lifetime offers a few twists that previous books in the Timeless series didn't, including a mystery that they may only be able to solve because of their time-crossing gift. I can't imagine having to make a choice like this, a choice to never see a family member ever again, and that is exactly what Grace and Hope face. How does one weigh which life is more meaningful? Does one have regrets once the decision is made? I realize that this decision is the same that each MC faces in this series, but this one seems more difficult and emotional.

This is the third book in the series, but it can be read as a stand-alone title. Yes, there are characters from the previous book but they are secondary characters in this one. This book is engaging as the story progresses in alternating times and viewpoints. Overall this is an excellent read that I have no qualms recommending.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion. All thoughts expressed are my own.

Happy Publication Day - May 7th!!!! 📖

This is book #3 in the Timeless series, and it is now available!!! If you loved the romance, time-travel, historical immersion, and fast moving plot from When the Day Comes & In This Moment, be sure to snatch up a copy of For A Lifetime 😉

📚About the Book… (from the publisher)
Grace and Hope are identical twin sisters born with the ability to time-cross together between 1692 Salem, Massachusetts, and 1912 New York City. As their twenty-fifth birthday approaches, they will have to choose one life to keep and one to leave behind forever—no matter the cost.

💭 My Thoughts…
I absolutely loved the 1912 timeline where Hope dreams of becoming one of the first female pilots in America, and Grace works as an investigative journalist. It was a fascinating and monumental time for women and Gabrielle captures this period beautifully.

I struggled with story back drop for the 1692 timeline with the Salem witch trials. It was incredibly challenging to comprehend the suffering and turmoil of the time, and these chapters often felt quite dark and heavy.

Having said this, when the story is read in it’s entirety, it is one that powerfully directs the reader towards acceptance of God’s ultimate sovereignty, His goodness and faithfulness in the midst of evil, and overall the joy of a surrendered life - especially one that looks entirely different from what we had imagined.

Content Warning (includes very minor spoilers):
Enslaved and oppressed people (1692 minor characters prejudice/distrust towards quakers, Indians and women - all with main character commentary of disapproval), mention of Massachusetts massacres, Maternal death, unwed pregnant mother in crisis, Superstitious white magic and unnerving mentions of witches/devil worship etc in context of the witch trials, domestic abuse (mild - merely mentioned), hangings and accusations of innocence women and children.

Thank you @netgalley, @gabriellemeyer and @bethanyhousefiction #bhpfiction for this ARC

Another absolutely incredible time-travel book by this author.
After I finished the previous book in the series and saw her next book would feature twin daughters, I was so excited to see how this would play out. The times featured here are 1692 and 1912. Now the girls are able to go to sleep-in one-time period and wake up in the other time period without any time having passed.
In 1692 they live and work in their father's tavern. It is the time of the Salem Witch trials, mass hysteria, afflicted citizens. Who can you trust? I found the information about the Salem witch trials informative and fascinating and as coincidence may have it, I was just in Salem this past October and found out a lot of fascinating historical information about this time period.
In 1912 as times are more progressive one of the twins is a journalist and the other aspires to become the first female pilot in America.
I loved seeing the growth the girls go through, each has a love interest in a different time period and has established such an important bond with people and events in this time period.
The girls have promised each other to be together forever but when an unimaginable tragedy happens how will this affect their future? The pacing of the story felt right, the characters kept my attention with excitement. I enjoyed reading the alternating viewpoints of the girls and seeing how they came to the conclusions they have.

I was given a complimentary copy of this book.

So good! I love the timeless series by Gabrielle Meyer and this was is an excellent addition! I love that it was about sisters and just the historical aspect to this book is so fun! What category do we put these in though? Romance, sci-fi historical fiction! I love them!

In Meyer’s inspirational time-slip story, we meet twenty-four-year-old twins, Grace and Hope Eaton, who are time-crossers living in Salem in 1692. Their consciousness leaps centuries when they fall asleep―and wake in 1912. When they sleep in 1912, they are awake in 1692. Life is becoming more dangerous for the sisters, who cook and serve tables in their father’s ordinary. Accused witches await interrogation in the upper rooms, and given their foreknowledge of events, the sisters offer comfort as and when they can. The mundanity of life in Salem is frustrating for Hope, but she spreads her wings in 1912, and learns to fly a Blériot aeroplane. She lives life to the fullest and revels in her freedom. Grace, more subdued and as graceful as her name, is a journalist in 1912, and writes about her sister’s exploits for the New York Globe. On their 25th birthday they must decide which of their paths to follow, and for both women it has become an increasingly easy choice. But hopes and dreams sometimes turn out to be just that. In Salem, Grace loves family friend, Isaac. In 1912, Hope loves flying instructor, Luc. As the horrifying events of history come to a head, their decision becomes all the more critical, even as love becomes all the more complex.

The premise for this engaging time-slip novel might seem a little far-fetched to some readers, but Meyer’s firm grasp of both timeframes moves the plot seamlessly from one century to the other with plenty of action, and events are told in a realistic and believable way. Meyer is mindful that her inspirational themes do not overwhelm the narrative, even as her protagonists must trust that they are on the road God intended.

#BookRevew : FOR A LIFETIME by Gabrielle Meyer

I became a huge fan of the author the moment I finished "When the Day Comes." That book was amazing! "In This Moment" was fantastic too, and the ending left me eagerly awaiting the next installment.

In For A Lifetime, I enjoyed the dual perspective of Grace and Hope in both 1692 and 1912. I love their names too. The author’s writing and pacing of the story were great, as usual. Like Hope, I enjoyed their life in 1912 more. While the witch trials in the 1692 setting weren't necessarily my cup of tea, it was still interesting to learn about it through Grace and Hope's experiences. The time travel plot kept me guessing, with a mix of surprising twists and turns alongside some I could anticipate.

The romance part of the book was sweet. Luc and Isaac were great men and truly loved the twins. However, the most powerful relationship in the book, for me, was the one between the twins themselves. Their bond transcended time and personality differences. Their unwavering love and willingness to sacrifice for each other was truly heartwarming. The book's ending satisfied me, but it also sparked my curiosity about where this series will take us next.

Book 3 in the Timeless series. I highly recommend reading the series in order.

For a Lifetime is about twins Grace and Hope
who live simultaneously in 1692 colonial Massachusetts during the height of the Salem Witch Trials and 1912 New York at the start of aviation. But, they have to choose one path to stay in on their 25th birthday.

Having twins as main characters gave the story a different dynamic from the others that came before, since this posed a different dilemma in choosing their paths - will they stay together or not? Although it seemed like they'd already chosen, a shocking series of twists, turns and unfortunate events challenge the future they'd planned for themselves.

I loved how this story was told - one twin narrating one timeline. It lured me into making conclusions for myself, but I couldn't have predicted how everything turned out (although I did predict some).

The plot and story-telling was brilliant! Everything tied together perfectly, even the mysteries and seeming plotholes that were introduced early on. My jaw dropped in shock multiple times. I was hooked and kept turning the pages (even sneaking a look at the end 👀 sorry, my heart couldn't take the suspense 😭).

I loved the growth that Grace and Hope went through. Grace was so selfless and risk-averse, but learned to open herself to the world and how to stand up for herself. Hope started out self-centered but learned to think of others and love sacrificially. Their love for each other, through everything they've been through together, shone throughout the book.

I really thought things would turn out differently but I'm happy that they ultimately ended up at the time that helped them become the best versions of themselves and with people who see the best in them and love them for who they are.

In a time when I feel uncertain, the certainty and sovereignty of God as portrayed in this book gave me great comfort.

Other Thoughts:
- Learned a lot about the historical events that were portrayed
- Loved that Isaac's character was used to reflect God's love for us
- Loved the creative use of their names in one-liners

So many quotes I want to highlight and tab! Cannot wait to have a finished copy in my hands 🥹 Thank you @bethanyhousepublishers for an advance copy.

This is the third book in the Timeless series and when I tell you I love this series, I mean I LOVE THIS SERIES! There is something in these books that make them near impossible to put down and I have to force myself to set one aside when I need to go to sleep!

The Timeless series is time traveling historical fiction and they cover really fascinating points in history. I was a bit nervous about this one as one of the timelines takes place during the Salem witch trials, which is a topic I find disturbing and had very little desire to read about. But Meyer’s storytelling made even this interesting to me.

These books have romance, light faith elements, interesting historical events, and are major page turners! I highly recommend this series, but I would urge you to please read them in order!! Although each book is its own story, there are some spoilers for the previous books in each.

This is my absolute favorite ongoing series right now. I have adored the first two books in the series even though I typically do not like dual time period books. But these are not typically dual time. I think that in those books it is hard to keep up with where the the characters are living but it was never hard in this series. Gabrielle Meyer does and outstanding job of writing a truly unique series and writing so it's all easily understood.
But saying that, I found this book a little hard to keep the characters straight at times. I was about a quarter way into the book before I had them easily figured out.
And the Salem witch trials have always given me the chills. So I found this the hardest book to read.
This was not a favorite in the series but I am definitely looking forward to the next book.
Thanks you to Net Galley for allowing me to read this book. The opinions are entirely my own.

“Life is full of twists and turns. We can’t always predict which way it will go, but it’s a magnificent journey when we let it take us where it wants.”

Historical fiction with a time-travel twist - sign me up!
Hope and Grace Cooper are identical twin sisters traveling between the witch trial hysteria of 1692 and the dawn of aviation in 1912. One their 25th birthday each must decide the live and love they will choose and which they will forfeit forever. That is unless fate intervenes beforehand. Which path will they choose and will they remain together or live separate lives from then on?

As with the other books in the series, I couldn’t put this one down. There were a few twists I saw coming and a few that I didn’t. I particularly enjoyed the 1692 timeline revolving around the Salem Witch Trials though both were well-done and held my interest. What I loved most though was watching the sister’s grow as individuals, overcoming fears and growing in their faith.

I’m very much looking foward to the next book in the series. I will say that the books will need to be read in order otherwise there will be spoilers.

Thank you Austen Prose PR and Bethany House Fiction for providing me with an advance copy of For a Lifetime. All thoughts expressed in this review reflect my honest opinion.

Gabrielle Meyer's Timeless series is my favorite currently in-progress book series right now, and I've been looking forward to the upcoming release of its third installment, For a Lifetime. I was so excited to be given an opportunity to read an advance copy of it, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it! If the idea of a historical fiction novel centering on time travel, the Salem Witch Trials, and female pioneers in aviation sounds fascinating to you, you'll want to add For a Lifetime to your TBR!

For a Lifetime differs from its predecessors in that it features twin protagonists, so in addition to having a dual timeline, it also has two narrators. Meyer skillfully managed to tell their stories in such a way that readers can easily follow along despite the shifts in both setting and narration. I really loved that Hope"s voice and personality were so distinct from the other protagonists in this series thus far, although her impulsivity sometimes exasperated me. She grows so much in this story, though, and her journey was satisfying to read. Her twin sister, Grace, in contrast, was easier for me to relate to, and I really loved following her story as well, which centers on self discovery.

In comparison to the other books in the Timeless series, I found For a Lifetime to be more predictable. I knew from about 2 chapters in which timeline and which love interests Grace and Hope would ultimately choose, but there were many exciting plot twists to get to those points. Gabrielle Meyer is a master at taking her readers by surprise! I also felt that Luc and especially Isaac could have been a little more fully developed, and that the girls' friendships with each of them merited a bit more focus.

For a Lifetime completely captured my attention over the last few days and I loved reading it!
