Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher!
At its heart, this is the tale of three women, all at different turning points in their lives. Cecilia starts the action when she decides to disappear and escape her seventieth birthday party. Her daughter, Kristen, dealing with dissatisfaction in her marriage and the recent death of her father, continues the story. Wrapping up this trio is aspiring artist Lily, who is just trying to find her way in the world after fleeing medical school. Their connections make this such a good read!
I read this book at the perfect time -it was just what I needed. Happiness, a beach, a love story, a little mystery. Sarah Morgan is an excellent writer and I'm now inclined to binge every book she's written!
The Summer Swap was my first Sarah Morgan and not my last!
The story followed three interconnected women. The characters had depth in a wide range of emotions and human experiences. The setting was a cozy coastal town. The writing style was comforting and warm.
Highly recommend for a touching, sweet story.
I hate to say it but it was a DNF. I was very bored. I gave it about 30% and just couldn’t get into it.
Sarah’s stories are always a delight. They focus on relations and relatable struggles. So, I always enjoy to where Sarah takes me.
This time to the Cape, where Cecilia is facing her past and where Lily is trying to hide. with all the storylines of Cecilia’s family intertwining, it is wonderful to see the story unfold from everyone’s point of view.
And although I already suspected the ending and the revelation of the mystery of the painting, I still really enjoyed the story. Believeable characters, relatable struggles and a dosis of romance and heartbreak. what’s not to love? Four out of five stars from me and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc
This was so cute and joyful! Thank you so much for the opportunity to read the ARC! I look forward to read more from the author!
I thought this was very good and I will have to add this to the shop shelves. Thank you for the chance for us to review.
What a treat this was! This book offered doses of joy, bits of grief, and a whole lot of love wrapped up into a few hundred pages. I deeply enjoyed Sarah Morgan's writing and prose in delivering a beautiful tale along the beach. So gentle and captivating that I could practically feel the salty water slinking up and down the shore.
Lily, oh Lily! It was a breath of fresh air to read about a character following their heart, especially when the path 'of least resistance' (Is medical school truly the path of least resistance?!) is in many ways the better option. It was refreshing to follow someone who stood so firmly in her beliefs in that regard. This book does something lovely. It takes three lives and braids them together beautifully. The women in this story were relatable, heartfelt, and had me grinning into the pages as though I, too, were on the shores of Cape Cod instead of landlocked in rural Nebraska. This was my very first Sarah Morgan, who until now, I knew by reputation only. Another one of my favorite things, is intertwining generations, that is to say - taking an older generation and meshing them with the younger folk. It always leads to amusing and heartwarming situations, and The Summer Swap was no exception to this!

ARC - Pub Date May 7
This was a NetGalley ARC approval that I started and put aside then missed the pub date 🤦🏻♀️
This was my first Sarah Morgan read and I don’t know what my problem was the first time but when I picked it back up I LOVED IT 😍
You quickly get drawn into the story and can’t help but get invested in the characters. This book will not disappoint!
5 minutes after finishing this one I started my approved ARC of The Holiday Cottage. I am sure that review will be coming shortly!!!
I was so excited, but ended up very disappointed. It seemed like this would be a great summer read. Instead I felt like very little happened and I only continued reading to say it was finished. Lots of hints dropped trying to draw readers in, but again it really wasn’t working for me. Maybe this just wasn’t the book for me.
Thank you NetGalley and publisher for the eARC.
Unfortunately I couldn’t get into this one, I tried two different times the story just didn’t hook me
2.50/3 It shouldn’t have taken me as long as it did to finish. It was quite predictable and an easy ready but I did struggle with it a bit.
While it did hit on some heavy topics I just didn’t like how slow paced it was and how there wasn’t really much of a plot going on here. All the drama that went on for nothing and then bam happy ending. I don’t know I feel like there was so much more that could have been included. Possibly more past and present timelines in the mix?
The name also felt like it was going to be more of a rom com type but not sure where the summer swap was? I don’t know the name didn’t really seem to fit the story. Swap because Ethel swapped one life for another? It was okay just not for me.
Thank you Netgalley & Harlequin Trade publishing for the eARC
The Summer Swap by Sarah Morgan takes us through the POV of three different women- Cecelia, Kristen & Lily. All at a pivotal point in their lives.
When we meet Cecelia she is on the cusp of a breakdown after another argument with her daughter, Kristen & quietly exits the birthday party turned memorial for her late husband, famous artist Cameron Lapthorne, & heads off to the last place anyone would go looking for her, Dune Cottage. Dune Cottage, the abandoned family home on the Cape, that holds so many memories for Cecelia.
Lily, the caretaker for Dune Cottage, has recently made a change in her life & hopes to one day pursue her dream of being an artist. She’s been squatting in the cottage as it’s been abandoned for so long. When Cecelia, who also happens to be the grandmother of her estranged best friend as well as the engaged (to someone else) man she loves returns, things become more complicated for her.
Kristen, Cecelia’s daughter, has always been the devoted daughter of her late father. In his death she continues to keep his public legacy alive. She’s also dealing with personal struggles within her marriage & if it can be saved.
This was my first book by Sarah Morgan. While I enjoyed it- the characters were well developed & as a New Englander I loved the location (I love a summer read set in a coastal NE town), I think the ending wrapped up a little quicker than I expected.
Thank you to NetGalley, Canary Street Press & Sarah Morgan for the advanced copy of this fun summer read out May 7, 2024!
The Summer Swap is my second book by Sarah Morgan, and she has quickly become a must-read author for me.
The Summer Swap is a multigenerational story of three women at a crossroads. I love that women are at the forefront of her stories and are often on a journey of self-discovery. These types of books tend to work well for me. I am a sucker for friendships between an elderly character and a younger one. The setting was also superb. I felt like I was spending the summer in Cape Cod.
I found this to be sweet and emotional, with a touch of romance that was perfectly balanced.

So glad I squeezed this one in before summer ended. I love the vibe of Sarah Morgan's books. This one in particular the setting was so perfect for summer and just quaint. The story focused on a lot of harder, real life topics, but was still light and well done. I loved seeing so many women of all different ages with different life issues going on support and lean on each other. The journey was beautiful. The romance included added a great element also. I loved seeing the healing along the way. 🫶🏻
Cecelia and Lily find themselves at Dune Cottage for very different reasons. Cecilia feels so overwhelmed at her 70th birthday party, she feels she needs to escape, and the first place she thinks of is Dune Cottage - the property she thought her late husband sold until very recently. Lily is an aspiring artist who dropped out of medical school and is cleaning vacation homes while she figures out what to do next. She figures it can’t hurt to stay at Dune Cottage after she’s told it’s never occupied. When Cecilia arrives, Lily expects to be kicked out - not asked to stay. And when Cecilia’s grandson Todd shows up things get more complicated because he and Lily have history. Kristen, who is Cecelia’s daughter and Todd’s mother, eventually makes her way to the cottage as well, in a crisis of her own. With so many things going on at once, Dune Cottage turns out to be the respite no one knew they needed.
I really enjoyed this story. It was a great read to squeeze in just before summer ends, but could really be read at any time of year. It focuses more on family drama and a bit of romance and just happens to take place largely at a beach vacation home - so it might be a great one to read this fall or winter when you’re feeling chilly! It’s told during a singular timeline but from multiple points of view, which of course added depth to all of the characters. I found myself rooting for them all by the end - and happily satisfied with how things turned out. This is my second book by this author and I look forward to reading more!
I loved this book! It was a story of relationships and communication. The characters were likable as they were dealing with love and loss and life. I enjoyed that there were characters of a variety of ages going through life together. This is a story of having the courage to figure out that makes you happy and find a way to live it. I highly recommend this book
"The Summer Swap” takes you to a charming Cape Cod cottage packed with secrets and heartwarming connections. Cecilia, a widow dealing with past regrets, returns to the cottage, unexpectedly encountering Lily, a young artist yearning for a fresh start. Their unlikely cohabitation blossoms into a supportive friendship, each woman finding comfort and strength in the other.
The novel beautifully portrays the power of female bonds and the courage to pursue one's dreams. The arrival of Cecilia's grandson adds a touch of romance, while the exploration of past family dynamics adds emotional depth. The idyllic summer setting provides a perfect backdrop for personal growth and self-discovery.
While the plot unfolds predictably at times, the characters' journeys are engaging, and the heartwarming message of forgiveness and second chances resonates.
A fun summer read with more depth than anticipated! These characters were lovable and relatable and I will never knock a book with women supporting women. That gets my vote every time.
I've enjoyed each Sarah Morgan book I have read and this one was no different. A sweet story of new found love from multiple viewpoints. Quick, easy read.
