This was a sweet and heartwarming novel. However, I found most of it to be a bit boring, cheesy, and predictable.
Thank you Harper Muse for my gifted ALC
No Reservations follows a group of women - best friends since childhood - through various crossroads in life. Once a fearsome foursome, this group of BFFS are down to a trio when their beloved Yvette passes away of cancer. The remaining three; Diane, Rochelle, and Joy; grapple with the loss of their friend, and a plethora of big life changes, from divorce to big career changes, from infertility to finding love again. Thankfully they have one another to lean on through it all.
This was an easy, enjoyable listen that felt like one part women's fiction, one part soap opera. So much drama! We get all three perspectives here, and each woman has a lot going on. It made for a fast moving plot and an entertaining book that I finished in one day.
Adenrele Ojo portrayed each character uniquely, which made it easier to keep track of the switching stories.
When the last remaining 3 women of their sisterhood hear that Evette has purchased them tickets for a week in Jamaca before she died, they had no idea what the next 6 months would bring them. Adjusting to life without their friend is the first major hurdle. What else is happening in their lives is the other.
Dealing with topics of infertility, divorce and abuse, No Reservations is a very good book. It is one that brought me into a group of friends that I could not relate to at all and yet felt welcome into their relationship. Author Sherly Lister does a great job on writing what she knows and making no apology for what happens in the lives of her characters. Which made the book very believable and very much worth a read.
I am looking forward to more by Lister and maybe even revisiting these 3 delightful women and how they have each other's backs all the time. 100%, no questions asked, they believe and support each other threw it all.
I went into this one expecting a romance and it may have done a disservice to my reading experience since this was definitely more of a women's fiction story about female friendship, the hardships of marriage/relationships and infertility/found family. Good on audio, it was still an entertaining book that I would recommend. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a digital and audio copy in exchange for my honest review!
