The storyline kept me on the edge of my seat as I tried to figure out who was after Stella. The descriptions of Yosemite brought me into the story and the fast-paced action kept me there.
One secret leads to another and it will keep you guessing to the end. I especially enjoyed Von's transformation and his long journey back to God.
I highly recommend Trapped in Yosemite. I feel it is one of the author's best. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
I received an ARC from the author and voluntarily chose to review it. All opinions are my own.
Immersing readers in the breathtaking backdrop of Yosemite, Dana Mentink’s Trapped in Yosemite delivers a gripping narrative that blends suspense with an exploration of the Christian faith. As the lives of Stella Rivers and Von Sharpe teeter on the edge, the secrets and challenges that unfold set the stage for a life-and-death journey.
One of my favorite quotes from this story which happens to be said by side character, Tate: “If you aren’t tied together by God, the world will tear you apart in short order.” Tate's words emphasize the importance of being anchored by God in a world full of challenges, allowing for readers to look for the overarching theme of faith.
A powerful quote given by our main character, Stella, is expressed during one of her reflective moments: “She was depleted, mind and body, but there was still a baby to be tended. And that was a fact with which she grappled on a daily basis. What if she didn’t have enough resources, physical and mental, to meet Hannah’s needs? What if she wasn’t strong enough, smart enough, brave enough? You aren’t, but God will give you enough, one day at a time, like He has been doing.” This introspective quote captures the essence of her trust in God and how He is providing for her and her baby one day at a time.
The Christian content in the book is very lightly presented. Mentions of Jesus and the Gospel are absent, making the Christian content in this narrative focused more on the scenarios of what someone has gone through, what he thinks and feels before committing one’s life to Jesus. Redemption is available for all of us, which comes through clearly in this story where secrets and unknown dangers are exposed!
This stands out in the portrayal of the male character, Von Sharpe, who initially resists any connection with God. His transformation towards the end, where he acknowledges God's second chance and expresses a need for spiritual remediation. This journey from resistance to possible acceptance aligns with the redemptive theme present throughout the story.
Trapped in Yosemite delivers an edge-of-your-seat suspenseful experience and also delves into the characters' mental, emotional, and spiritual struggles and growth. Dana Mentink's novel is not just a thrilling read; many who are new to the Christian faith or are struggling with similar situations as our main characters will enjoy this suspenseful story of challenges and obstacles.

Everything I want in a book is in this one. Secrets, murder, suspense, forgiveness, lies, doubts, and trust all wrapped up in a faith based page turner.
Stella and Von parted ways and never expected to see each other again. However, a natural disaster has them reunited in order to survive a killer. In the midst of the storms, these two find forgiveness, redemption, and the understanding of true love despite brokenness and deep grief.
This new-to-me author had me from Page 1! Suspense, intrigue and a touch of romance. Stella Rivers is trying to make it as a single mom and arborist. When she meets a perspective client and suddenly finds herself fired upon - she takes off at breakneck speed to get away. Enter Von Sharpe who can't believe a someone would be so reckless to drive on a hiking path! But when he sees who it is and learns what has happened, his military training kicks in. Suddenly they find themselves in the middle of a massive earthquake and things take off. Staying at a local camp until things can be sorted out and help can reach them, they find themselves the target of a ruthless killer. Who wants Stella dead, who wants to harm her 9-month-old and what secrets are lurking behind those who say they want the best for Stella?

Trapped In Yosemite by Dana Mentink was a truly exciting story from beginning to end. A real page turner.
I loved Von and Stella's story and how they met in the past. With a killer stalking them in Yosemite and earthquakes, this is one book you don’t want to put down.
I was provided an advanced review copy of this book by the author/publisher. All opinions in this review are my own.
Trapped in Yosemite is a well written romantic suspense. The plot is a real edge of your seat page turner. Suspense fans will love this book. My thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for my advance book. This is my unbiased review.
What an action packed story! The title and cover caught my eye on NetGalley and I couldn't request it fast enough. The book did not disappoint. It had a lot of the elements I like in a suspense story.
Action in the first chapter, check.
Well-trained K-9s and handlers, check.
Second chance romance, check.
Emotional relationships to repair with forgiveness, check.
A who-dunit to figure out, check.
Reconnecting with your faith and spirituality, check.
A secret forced into the open, check.
The characters were interesting and held my attention throughout the book. The pace was fast, I didn't want to put the book down. The setting of the book was in a place I would love to visit and the atmosphere was tense due to the earthquake, after-shocks and people drama.
I will definitely look for more books by Dana Mentink. Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book. This review is by my choice and freely given. I hope it encourages other readers to give this book a read.
Sadly this isn't for me ,even though it's a Harlequin romance ,and I do love their books but I just can't get into their Christian romance ones , so this will be a DNF for me .
Trapped in Yosemite is not my favorite of Dana Mentink. Her female main character, Stella, is not very likable. She was over the top panicking, childish misdirected anger at Von, and determination to do things her way was irritating.
I read other reviews that didn’t care for Von, but I have always tried to understand a persons character by where they came from. His back ground explains a lot. His determination to protect Stella and the rest of the group is admirable.
I did enjoy the book overall and will read Dana’s books anytime.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Trapped in Yosemite is a fast-paced, action-packed story encased in a beautiful yet dangerous Yosemite National Park setting. Thanks to Ms. Mentink’s detailed descriptions, I could almost feel the tremors of the earthquake and could vividly picture the devastation it caused. Secrets and surprises wrapped in danger and mystery kept me guessing and totally immersed in the story from beginning to end. The characters are well-crafted and relatable. Von and Stella must work through their hurts and regrets from the past as they face danger after danger from man and nature adding a touching, emotional layer to the story. I especially appreciate the faith thread woven throughout the story with themes of redemption and second chances. I thoroughly enjoyed this compelling, entertaining story, and I think all Inspirational Romantic Suspense fans will too. I highly recommend it.
I received a copy of this book from the author/publisher via NetGalley with no obligation to write a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
What a story! There is a lot going on in this book and I could not set it aside. I had to keep reading. It is wild to read a book that involves an earthquake while the natural disaster is in the world news of late. Now full disclaimer, I am a Dana Mentink fan from way back. If a book is off in my opinion, I will be totally honest and say so. I received this book from the publisher, through NetGalley and this is my own unsolicited opinion. It is full of danger, tension, secrets, suspense and a real-feel atmosphere.
Right from the start Stella Rivers is in trouble. She witnesses a murder, endures an attack and experiences the terror of a devastating earthquake. And she comes face-to-face with her ex-fiancé Von Sharpe, a K-9 handler who is working in the area with the Mountain Dog Wilderness Guides. These two have some serious issues to deal with.
Between the threads of back story and current actions of several interesting characters including Bear, the well-trained K-9, I read late into the night. I really enjoyed this book, and it took me a while to figure out part of the mystery of what man-made danger was in the works. Wow! I'm really hoping that this is the first in a MDWG series. This is a five-star read in my opinion.
this is a riveting suspense story he is a k9 handler out in the park when he sees a car being pushed of the road .then the ground starts to shake. when he get to the car he knows the lady but before he can help the earth opens up if you like suspense along with what nature can do you will want to read the story i was given a copy of the book by net galley but this is an honest review
While this book was slow start, I really enjoyed this book. Never read any from this author I definitely will now. I enjoyed the mystery surrounding Stella and Von and loved their characters. I hope to see Tate and Camy's stories. Highly recommend this book..
A page-turning second chance romance and mystery. I was captivated by the couple, their friends and dogs. Not so enthralled by the other characters, but then that is the expectation. Just which one is the bad man or woman. Wonderful setting. Thanks to the publisher for providing a copy via NetGalley. My review is voluntary.
Stella Rivers had no idea that when she left her little girl Hannah with her Aunt Zoe that she would live through a shooting, a murder and an earthquake!
Because the earthquake destroyed most of the roads, Stella crept along the highway that was left, all of a sudden she was being pursued by the shooter and shot at as she was crossing a bridge!
Unbeknownst to her, her former fiancé, Von, was watching as she was being shot at and pursued and he rescued her and took her back to the resort where he and other friends of Stella worked.
But there is more terror to face as the earthquakes continue and the shooter follows her everywhere she goes!
Fractured Earth, Mended Hearts.
Trapped in Yosemite by Dana Mentink is a gripping Christian romantic suspense novel that deserves a solid 5-star rating. The story unfolds in the breathtaking and unstable setting of Yosemite National Park, offering readers a vivid taste of its beauty and danger.
Mentink's writing immerses you in the wilderness, where nature's unpredictability mirrors the characters' own tumultuous lives. The mystery woven into the plot kept me guessing until the end, a testament to the author's storytelling prowess.
Stella and Von, the protagonists, are well-crafted characters who undergo personal growth and reconciliation as they face the challenges of the wild. Their rekindled relationship feels authentic and heartwarming.
One standout aspect is Von's journey of finding purpose in unexpected ways, a theme that resonates deeply. The book incorporates faith seamlessly, emphasizing the importance of God's role in relationships.
As a Christian fiction enthusiast, I appreciate the biblical worldview woven into the narrative. The favorite quotes provided beautifully reflect the book's core themes:
"Yosemite region was a wild place, where people didn’t subdue nature as much as they learned how to thrive alongside it."
"Facts, not feelings. Feelings were wild, unpredictable things that made him behave like a fool. He never should have jumped into an engagement with Stella no matter how in love he’d felt. She was young and so was he, emotionally. He’d thought since then many times about what Tate had said about marriage. If you aren’t tied together by God, the world will tear you apart in short order."
"Love couldn’t be enough without the bedrock of faith. She knew that now."
"He had loved Stella once, passionately, recklessly, selfishly, and they’d blown each other up."
In summary, Trapped in Yosemite is a compelling, immersive, and faith-infused read that explores love, redemption, and the untamed beauty of nature. It's a must-read for fans of Christian romantic suspense.
Trapped in Yosemite is a Christian adventure suspense novel: a genre I've not read before. It had many moments of intensity and the plot kept me guessing. After reading, I think I'm most in love with Bear. I enjoyed the adventure aspects but had a hard time with the likability of both Stella and Von as well as the confidence in belief regarding the assassin. I'd read another book about a set of individuals with trained dogs, as that was my favourite aspect of the story.
This was an excellent book. I appreciated the fact that ot was long enough that it took mode than a day to read. The author does a great job of keeping you guessing until the very end. There are many layers to the story and the relationships in the story which make it very interesting. I received a free copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Trapped in Yosemite is a captivating story set in the beautiful backdrop of Yosemite National Park. There are multiple stories going on from attempted murder, to earthquakes, to secrets and sorrows from the past. The intensity throughout the book kept me engrossed, making it hard to put down. I enjoyed this book and recommend it.
If you love the ex trope, you’ll enjoy this. Lots of drama and things going wrong at every turn. Both Von and Stella carry a lot of trauma, that they have to navigate while also surviving the wilderness of Yosemite National Park. I especially loved stories with K-9 partners, so Bear was an added bonus. Overall this book gave me exactly what I hoped it would.
