Right off the bat, really dislike Chuck. I guess he’s a typical LA guy but obsessed with his skincare and clothes? Missed her grandmother’s birthday? He also doesn’t listen when she’s telling him she’s upset about it but instead turns the tables on her. How am I supposed to root for this guy?

Further into the book and he is on a special diet so he constantly turns down places to eat to where they don’t go out and end up at home and miserable AND he doesn’t wash dishes and is very messy AND is rude to the assistant. I’m 25% in and if this is supposed to be a romance book, I cannot fathom wanting these people together.

Of course Olivia isn’t much better. She’s extremely immature and self serving. They do start getting along and their issues seem pretty trite about halfway through so much that flashbacks have to be used as filler because there isn’t a good, solid reason these two can’t exist in harmony and get the million dollars, or even just get back together. Then of course the “big secret.” Olivia is supposed to be an intelligent, educated woman but she can’t see how easily she’s being manipulated so much that she does the absolute dumbest thing possible. This running thing is SO weird and childish. Her grandmother pointing out how she knows how tabloid photos are manipulated based on her whole entire life just sealed the deal for me that I don’t like either character. I don’t want this couple together and I don’t want them to get the money. I could see what was happening a mile away and didn’t even need the Madison explanation.

This is a couple based on lust, not love. I think this is even more so apparent after their initial meeting after leaving the house. Then the part about Astrid. After all that time, her suddenly having a change of heart? Also, why was she written like she is 60 or 70 years old. The whole “divorce would have hurt her career” sounds like something from the 50’s when all of that should have taken place in the 90’s right? I was alive then. Divorce wasn’t hurting any actors. So should Astrid maybe be 50? She’s “lived her life”? WTF?

I love HEA. I love everything working out even if it’s not based in reality, but this was all too much. Too convenient and not really deserved. I wish I had liked this book better. I wanted to like it so much more. The main characters needed to have been written more sympathetic and more emotionally intelligent in the beginning for the ending to be worth it.

Thank you to NetGalley and Dutton Books for the ARC.

For anyone craving Love Island Villa vibes, this is the romance for you. Great chemistry and a very fun premise, I couldn’t put this LA love story down. Holly James writes such fun stories, I’m already sad I have to wait so long for the next one. Thank you Netgalley and Dutton for my copy!

"Name Your Price" is such a delightful read.

If you are a fan of reality tv and drama, this is the book for you. Olivia and Chuck are a couple that have plenty of fiery passion but a lack of communication skills. This is evident when a blowout, break up lands them on the internet in a viral moment everyone is talking about. Cue the producers of a hit tv show, "Name Your Price" swooping in to capitalize on their sudden infamy. Chaos ensues and lessons are learned on set.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was a quick read with a lot of laugh out loud, funny moments. I will definitely be sharing this one with my friends.

Thank you NetGalley, Holly James, and Dutton for gifting me this ARC.

I got immediately sucked in by the premise of this book. Chuck and Olivia really did have great chemistry on the page and the idea of them being stuck together in a house for a reality show got me excited. I was a bit disappointed by how the third act breakup was done (kind of cliche and unbelievable), and the denouement was a bit drawn out, but overall this was a really fun, cute book that I enjoyed reading.

Having chemistry is NOT Olivia and Chuck's problem. Well, it's a problem, but in a different way. Despite being able to turn up the heat in nearly any situation, they realize it's not exactly a healthy way to have a relationship. But when an opportunity for a million dollars knocks on their doors in the form of a reality TV show where they have to live in the same house for a month, they can't turn it down.

This book was so fun! Olivia and Chuch were such a compelling couple, and their love/hate issues were 🔥 The way that I was rooting for them along with the producers! The reality TV part was great, too, because who doesn't want a peek behind that curtain? Definitely a unique premise that I think lots of people will like!

Thank you to NetGalley and Dutton Books for the advanced copy!!

This was a really fun read! I am obsessed with reality TV so I knew I was in for a treat with this one! The story had a lot of depth to it and the characters had really important backstories that added to who they were. This had all my favorite tropes; I love forced proximity, second chance and of course only one bed. This was a really enjoyable read that I flew through because I was really invested in this story. It was funny, light hearted and filled with so much tension.
I highly recommend!!

Thank you again to NetGalley and Dutton Books for the advanced copy!

Olivia and Chuck have an explosive relationship so it only makes sense that they have an explosive break-up. Now, the video of their break-up goes viral, Olivia and Chuck get the opportunity to win big bucks. The only catch? They have to live together for a month without leaving the house...at all.

This book was a top read for the year for me! Here's what I loved:

The Forced Proximity: I love this trope and this book was the perfect situation for it. Olivia and Chuck have literally no way to get away from each other. On top of that, they are thrown some hilarious, and difficult, challenges that make their lives even harder.

The romance: I adored the relationship between these two. They have a strong physical attraction that pushes them together all the time. But it goes beyond that. They are funny and caring while trying to not be. I loved it.

The side stories: This book has a few side stories that really drive the narrative beyond just a usual romance. You get into Olivia's family and Chuck's acting life (and scandal).

All in all, this was such an amazing and funny romance! Top read of 2024!

Thank you to the author and publisher for the gifted copy!

Two exes participate in a reality show with a million dollars (each!) on the line. The catch? They are stuck in a tiny house together for a whole month.

I have adored both of Holly James' prior novels- Nothing But The Truth and The Deja Glitch- so I was incredibly excited to receive an ARC for her latest work. Name Your Price is a cheeky, spicy rollercoaster ride that I enjoyed every minute of!

Liv had agency, depth and a lovely complexity to her character that was so engaging. I had such a blast diving into the reality tv world and exploring how producers manipulate their cast with edits and suggestions and many, many other tactics.

Holly James never disappoints with her fantastical rom coms. This is truly a cheeky, super fun summer romance read!

A huge thank you to Holly James, Penguin Group Dutton and NetGalley for the ARC <3

Name Your Price was a classic second-chance, enemies-to-lovers, and forced proximity rom-com. Also, there is only one bed! It ticks half of everyone’s favorite tropes! A pair of exes who were caught on camera having an explosive breakup on an LA sidewalk find themselves living together in a house for a month in order to win a million dollars each. They each have their own reason for that money - Olivia needs that money to continue caring for her grandmother, who is the only family she has left after her parents died when she was a baby, and Chuck needs the funds to support himself as he continues to pursue an acting career in Hollywood. And they all have to do it on camera for a reality show for a whole month with no touching or leaving the house in order to get that money. Easier said than done with two lovers whose main form of communication was getting physical and then storming out at the first sign of conflict. It’s anyone’s bet whether they can fight their chemistry to make it long enough to see the money. And these two have chemistry in spades - it practically jumps off the page and slaps you in the face. And while initially coming off as a bit selfish and arrogant, Chuck is actually written as a gentle, caring guy, while Olivia at first impression is a self-absorbed and abrasive girl who is actually using her bravado to hide the lingering grief and insecurity over her and her parents’ past history. It’s a humorous and heartwarming romance with a lovely happy ending.

dnf @ around 25%

I’m normally not a huge fan of the second chance trope, and this book made me realize that there’s two types of second chance. The first is when one of the characters is “the one that got away” and both characters had years to mature and grow since they broke up. In the second type, the breakup is very recent. In this case, I have a lot of trouble believing that the characters actually solve and address their problems by the conclusion of the book in a way that’s different from the last time they got back together.

That was my primary issue with “Name Your Price”. The book begins with Chuck and Olivia having a blowout fight that leads to them breaking up (and not for the first time). I thought Olivia’s issues with Chuck were very valid, and overall found him very unlikable. Even if he does grow and change over the month (!) that most of this book takes place over, I’m not sure it will sell me.

Looking at reviews, this seems to be a personal problem, but I just wasn’t motivated to continue reading this.

Thank you NetGalley and Dutton for the eARC. All opinions are my own.

Name Your Price has such a fun concept. A reality TV show where you're forced to live with your ex (who you're still insanely attracted to) in a locked house for a month to win a million dollars. Plus there's challenges to create even more drama. This was set up to be a fun time right from the premise and I was not wrong in my assumption.

Olivia and Chuck had a very messy, public break-up which inspires a TV producer to create a reality competition show around them. This concept created a lot of tension, drama and a lot of laugh out loud moments. Seeing these two enemies have to live in the same house was entertaining, plus the challenges made the scenario even better. It felt like I was reading an episode of Too Hot to Handle.

The romance was developed well. It wasn't rushed and seemed believable. Not too steamy but I liked what was there.

Would recommend this unique romcom for a good time!

I want to extend my gratitude to @NetGalley and @Dutton Books for providing me with the opportunity to read an ARC of Name Your Price by Holly James. Although this was my first experience with James's writing, it certainly won't be my last. Name Your Price was an absolute delight - the connection between the characters was electric! Rather than a slow burn, it was more like a constant simmer that had me hooked. Both characters were endearing, their growth throughout the story was well-crafted, and the Hollywood/reality aspect added an extra layer of fun. This book had me laughing out loud while also tugging at my heartstrings - a perfect balance in my opinion.

I Loved the first Holly james book I read but this one just was not for me! I think the pacing of the book did not really agree with me and I did not feel connected to the characters.

I would still like to read more of James's books and would recommend if anyone needed a light fun read!

First of all the premise for this is top notch. Two exes forced to live together for a month for a million dollars as part of a game show? This is romantic comedy gold and I think a lot of people will love this one because of that. I personally did not care for either main character and because of that I had a hard time rooting for them. But I think this has all of the ingredients for a book lots of people will really enjoy.

Thank you NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for the ARC.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing an Ebook ARC of this story, this is my objective review. Our couple is Olivia (reporter) and Chuck (actor), who at the beginning of the story have had a passionate and short-lived romantic relationship. Physically they're irresistible to one another but emotionally they're volatile. After their loud public break-up goes viral, they agree to appear on a reality show together. For a million dollars they'll have to live in a house together for one month without touching each other. How hard could it be? Turns out it's pretty darn difficult, especially with unresolved personal issues and history getting in the way. I have to say, this book is a nice change of pace from the typical romance story that starts at the beginning of the story. In a book like this we get to see where things went wrong, and if the couple cares about one another to do the work to make things right. I'm such a sucker for a redemption story. There was a lot of emphasis on Olivia's self-growth too, which worked here even though it's a romance. It's a single 3rd person POV from Olivia's standpoint, I would have liked to see more of Chuck's POV and more focus on him fixing his issues alongside with Olivia fixing hers. Olivia and Chuck were portrayed as a couple who favored their physical connection over nurturing their emotional connection, and it was good to see the emotional connection unfold during their time together in the house. It was like forced guerilla couples counseling. There is a nice amount of humor and, because this is a feel-good kind of book, a nice HEA and a resolution that wrapped a lot of loose ends up. This is a new-to-me author and I enjoyed this book enough that I'd read other books by her. 3.5 stars rounded up to 4 stars.

I made it 18% into this story before I decided it wasn't for me and marked it as a DNF. The two main characters were insufferable and I found myself not caring about what ended up happening to them. Since DNF'ing I haven't thought about this book once. Overall, just not for me! Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to be an early reader. All thoughts are my own.

I always want to start my reviews by thanking the author and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read this book early. I liked this book, but I didn't find myself reading the book quickly. I think it would be a fine beach read, but I wasn't as drawn as I would've liked.

Name Your Price is a lovers to enemies romcom with some twists and a lot of heart!

Imagine having to live with your ex in a house that you can’t leave for an entire month! If you succeed, you’ll win one million dollars. You would have to consider your super messy breakup and the fact that you’re still attracted to each other. What could go wrong?! This book was super cute and such a fun read! While I did find the relationship between Chuck and Olivia to feel quite superficial and shallow at first, their characters developed and we got to see inside of their heads a bit more. I was very hooked and couldn’t put this down!

Thank you so much to Netgalley, Holly James, and Penguin Group for providing this free ARC. This is my honest review! This will publish on July 30th.

I have posted my review on Goodreads, my Facebook book club, and will make a TikTok to post before the pub date!

The third-act breakup is the trickiest part of a romantic comedy. Building a conflict big enough to end a relationship, but not so big that the couple can't reunite, is a delicate balance - even more so when the breakup comes in the book's first chapter, as it does in Name Your Price, a forced proximity romance about cash-strapped, semi-famous exes who agree to live in the same house for a reality show.

The book's premise was intriguing, offering plenty of opportunities for juicy arguments and spicy interludes. The author did a great job of moving quickly through the story's opening act and getting quickly into reality-show hijinks - but little time was spared for showing any positive (non-sex) interaction between the exes, even in flashback, or any motivation for them to reunite.

The characters began to deepen, and their interaction began to feel more emotionally driven, in the final third of the book. I really liked both characters at this point and really enjoyed watching grow. I finished the book as fast as I started it, and with a smile on my face.

A fun, fast read, heavy on hijinks. 4+ stars.
