Thank you NetGalley for providing me a first look at Holly James' Name Your Price. I enjoyed reading this book! I loved the reality show element and the overall character development. I found this to be a refreshing read! It is sad at times but still remains light-hearted and leaves you feeling hopeful. Elements and relationships between Olivia's family in this story remind me of Taylor Jenkins Reid's The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. I enjoyed this book and I appreciate how it is not too sexual but overall a quality rom-com story.
Thank you Penguin Group & Netgalley for the advance reading copy. OH MY GOSH 😍🔥 This book is Too Hot To Handle meets second chance romance. The sparks were flying from page one & it just got better. Liv & Chuck had witty banter, sweet moments and sizzling chemistry. The cast of support characters were hilarious and so realistic. This is a must read romance for summer 2024!
This was so cute! I love a good romcom and this one did not disappoint. Olivia and Chuck’s chemistry was explosive from page 1 and the slow burn was absolutely perfect. The idea of them being on a reality show to win money was hilarious and the time they spent living together for the show will make you laugh out loud.
I liked the book pretty well, but I could not stand Chuck's obessive diet. I think also, their relationship might have been to volitale for me.
* I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley. Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for this book. All thoughts are my own.
Little sweet and spicy read! Chuck and Olivia have a massive breakup fight which ends up going viral, when a reality tv show reaches out to them for a chance to win a million dollars. How could you say no to that?! There are some fun challenges and uncomfortable interviews but it’s clear as day that they aren’t over eachother one bit. Of course there’s also some family and work drama thrown in to mix it up even more.
Would recommend.

Chuck Walsh and Olivia Martin have a tumultuous, albeit sexy, relationship. A repeat storm of fights and makeups, and most importantly, undeniable chemistry. When Olivia and Chuck's grand <s>finale</s> fight is recorded and posted all over the internet, they are thrusted into an opportunity they never thought they had. When gameshow <i>Name Your Price</i> reaches out to offer the unhappy couple one million dollars (each!) to stay locked up in a house together for a month, the two forge a temporary truce. They both need the money, and a million dollars could be life changing. But is it worth their sanity? As the gameshow ups the antics, Olivia and Chuck have to confront the reasons behind their on-again/off-again relationship and somehow make it through a month locked up together.
I think the premise of this story is super cute, although not something I would typically pick out for myself. I think it's difficult to write a story about Hollywood characters while staying true and authentic and accessible to readers, and I think that's mostly where Name Your Price lacks. The chemistry between Chuck and Olivia is undeniable, if a little over explained and analyzed by James' prose. However, the parts of the book that lost me were about Chuck and his experience trying to make it in Hollywood. Sorry Chuck, but I stand with Olivia in getting pissed that you missed her grandma's birthday for an audition.
Chuck did win me over eventually, however. Although pointedly overprotective (probably James' attempt at justifying his other male behaviors), I loved how you know from early on that he is in this situation to win Olivia back and for no other reasons. He is doting and wants to work hard to make it work with Olivia and I appreciate his tenacity. I think Holly James let the plot do a lot of the heavy lifting in telling the story and sort of understated the actual details that would allow for further connection to the characters, but there's only so much one can do.
Thank you to Dutton, Penguin Random House, and Netgalley for the eARC in exchange for my honest opinion and review.
Holly James does it again! I always look forward to her reads. She makes them fun and entertaining, with a little bit of seriousness and healing.
Chuck and Olivia are given the opportunity to win $1 million. What do they have to do? Just live in the same house for one month. Oh, and they're exes.
There are a few rules they must adhere by when they're in the house: no touching. Doesn't seem bad, right? Well, this couple couldn't keep their hands off of each other. Did I mention there's only one bed?
Read this is you enjoy: reality tv competitions, good banter, character development, one bed trope, second chance trope.
Holly James knows how to write characters! You truly want these two to win that money with the many tests that they are given. It's a quick read with a little spice to it. The characters are working through their own problems throughout. I would recommend!
Thanks to the publisher for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
I love Hollywood set rom-coms and this book delivered. The premise is really clever, the backstory moving, the spice is spicy, and the love story is surprisingly tender. Bravo.
Holly James has written some of my fav books in the past, but after reading so many reality dating books, this one fell so flat. I didn't care much about the characters and I had a hard time caring what happened to them based on first impressions.

Despite their obvious chemistry, Olivia and Chuck are constantly fighting, and when their breakup goes viral, they’re presented with a unique opportunity: be filmed for a reality show living together for 30 days and get paid a million dollars each. Both needing the money, they decide to do the show, but there’s a catch, they can’t touch each other either, or risk losing the money. Can they put up with each other and resist each other for a whole month?
I have a love hate relationship with forced proximity trope romcom. On one hand, the tension has the potential to be great, but on the other hand, the premise of the forced proximity also has the potential to be so contrived it hurts to read. This fell somewhere in the middle, where the idea of a reality show forcing exes to cohabitate isn’t that far fetched honestly, but there was also a bit of a logical gap here somewhere around how physically attracted they were to each other, and how bafflingly unable they were to put their problems aside for so much money. First off, the physical attraction was just kind of obnoxious and ridiculous to read about. It just went too far I think, even for a romcom. Then there was the unforgivable immaturity of both parties, especially Olivia. Both were just so sheltered and spoiled, so the contention between the two of them trying to be created came off as just unnecessary and childish. I was in for the plot at the beginning, but it just didn’t pan out in a direction I enjoyed or related to. Overall, this one was a light and quick read, but there’s much better romcoms out there with similar tropes. Also, single POV just doesn’t hit as hard as dual POV, you can’t prove me wrong.

Can we give standing ovations to books? Because this one right here is amazing with lots of heartfelt moments that had me blinking back tears multiple times and very high sexually charged energy from both MCs. Loved the chemistry between Olivia and Chuck.
This was not my favorite read, and for me was really difficult to get into. I’m not crazy about second chance romance or reality television. The conflicts seemed superficial and parts seemed derivative of The 7 Husbands of Evelyn Hugo.
This sounds harsher than I intend. I think if you enjoy reality television, Hollywood, or second chance romance you could enjoy this.
I liked the premise - Olivia and Chuck are celebrity adjacent and have a volatile relationship that ends in blowout fight with her saying you couldn’t pay her enough money to get back together in a viral moment captured on film. Enter a game show with a million dollar prize and both Olivia and Chuck have deep reasons for doing the show and attempting to win a million dollars each. It was just okay and the reason for their conflict felt like a lot of misunderstandings. I am betting you know how this one turns out.
3.5 stars but rounding down.
Thank you netgalley & PENGUIN GROUP Dutton | Dutton for the advanced reader copy.
This book was unique, but I really didn’t love the characters. I thought the MMC was a jerk and did a lot of unforgivable things. It was a fun story, but it wasn’t my favorite read.

Rating: 4/5⭐⭐⭐⭐
Genre: Adult/Women's Fic, Contemporary Romance
Tropes: 2nd chance romance, reality TV game, enemies to lovers, forced proximity, 1 bed/1 bathroom, attraction/repulsion, steamy chemistry
💭Summary: After an explosive, public break up Olivia "Liv" Martin and Charles "Chuck" Walsh are approached to appear on a reality TV game show. They will live together without touching to win $1 million each. The press filmed their argument and saw the chemistry they had. Olivia needs the money for debts and Chuck is trying to break into Hollywood's A-list of actors.
🤔My Thoughts: I loved the witty banter between Liv and Chuck. Both attracted and angry with each other, they are forced to live in close quarters and hash out their feelings. They confronted all the things they loved and hated about each other while competing for money.
This was my first Holly James book and it will not be my last! I loved the book and the characters, i loved how i was able to picture everything in my head and it felt like i was reading a movie, rather than a book if that makes sense
Name Your Price by answers the question: what would happen if you got locked in a house with your ex-boyfriend, and have to stay there in order to win a million dollars?
Olivia is the daughter of two former Hollywood big names, and Chuck is an up-and-coming actor. After their break-up goes viral, they are contacted with an opportunity, one they have to decide if it is worth it to this newly broken up couple.
What I liked: I loved the honest conversations these two characters had. In the beginning of the book, they are so toxic for each other and we see how their relationship progresses through this reality show. Honestly, this just says so much about the skill of James’ writing and how she portrayed the ups, downs, and resolutions of our two leads. This book is laugh-out-loud funny and has so much heart.
Rating: I loved this book. Holly James has such a great writing style that is so easy to enjoy. I could not put this book down and stayed up late to finish it.
Thank you to NetGalley, James, and the publisher for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!
I adore Holly James books. For many reasons, but mostly because her characters shine so bright. They are so relatable and real. Their struggles are our struggles. She's also the queen of sexual tension. Phew, is it hot in here or just me? I loved this one! I can't wait to see what she writes next.
One of my most anticipated summer releases by a fav author and while it didn't turn out to be my new favorite of theirs, it was still really enjoyable!
A recently separated Hollywood couple get convinced to join a reality TV show forcing them to spend time alone together in a house with the catch that they will forfeit the million dollar prize money (they both really need) if they so much as touch OR leave the house before filming is over.
Forced proximity goodness and reality tv shenanigans ensue, think Big Brother meets Love island in this highly emotional second chance romance that was good on audio narrated by Nikki Massoud. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early digital copy and @prhaudio for a complimentary ALC in exchange for my honest review.
Steam level: open door, mild details
