Thank you to NetGalley & Penguin for the arc!
the beginning was a little bit difficult to get into but as soon as it hit the 25% mark i could not put it down. This might be one of my favorite holly james books to this day and olivia and chuck had chemistry that you literally could see from page one. I was skeptical but slowly books based loosely on reality tv shows are becoming my favorite genres of the year. I really cannot wait to see what comes next from HJ. i am literally writing this review at 3:30 am I am obsessed with this book.
Name Your Price by Holly James was such a cute summer vacation read.
Olivia and Chuck…. They have some tension. Some major chemistry. They cannot keep their hands off each other despite all their fighting.
Olivia has finally had it. Chuck misses her grandma’s birthday party, and she is TICKED off. She’s done with Chuck for good.
After going to his apartment to break up with him (and maybe get tangled in his sheets one last time), Olivia and Chuck take their last hoorah outside, screaming at each other on the sidewalk.
Unbeknownst to the ex-lovers, this scene is being filmed and thanks to Chuck’s b-lister status, the news travels fast and ends up on the nightly news.
Olivia is obviously mortified.
Thanks to the video, the fighting exes earn a spot on a reality TV show. It’s not something Olivia wants to do, but grandma’s nursing home is anything but cheap, and Olivia doesn’t have enough money to cover the bills.
The TV show is a brutal experience, however Olivia does learn more about herself.
Once the show is over, Olivia feels lost and alone. As she processes the end of the show, she reconnects with Chuck while also going outside her comfort zone and talking to someone from her past.
It’s a sweet story. I liked the characters. Chuck may be a b-lister, but he seems pretty darn great.
Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Group Dutton for the ARC in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I was really intrigued by the concept of this book- two exes trapped together in a house for a reality show with the promise of one million dollars at the end- Sign me up! I loved the dynamic between Olivia and Chuck. They are so fiery together- they are either passionately fighting or passionately making up. When video of their breakup goes viral, they are approached to star on a reality show called Name Your Price where they are offered one million dollars, if they can stay in the house together for one month.
Once they are in the house, they are told about other rules- they will have to complete challenges in order to earn things in the house. If they have any physical contact, they will lose money. I didn't like the challenge aspects. It felt like Big Brother with a mix of Too Hot To Handle. I was excited about the reality show concept, but this was the part of the book that fell flat for me. The third act breakup felt out of place, and I didn't like the fallout around that.
I liked how Olivia grew and learned that she doesn't have to run from everything. She and Chuck were great together, and I liked the ending of the book.
Thanks to NetGalley and Penguin for this ARC.
If you were offered a million dollars to live in a house with your ex, would you do it?
Funny, cute, and sexy describes Name Your Price by Holly James perfectly! Olivia and her boyfriend, Chuck, just had a very public you-tube famous horrible break-up. When TV execs come knocking, the two must decide if they want to try for a million dollars by being locked in a house together for one month. They hate each other-but do they really?
I enjoyed Name Your Price and found it to be the perfect pool-side read!
Thank you, NetGalley, for the ARC!
Holly James is officially an autobuy author for me. This book was so much fun but also so tender at the same with an added layer of heat. It was a total winning combination.
Olivia and Chuck are caught on camera having a blowup fight ending their tumultuous relationship. A fight that has Olivia declaring she wouldn’t be around him for a million dollars. Reality TV comes calling for an episode of ‘Name Your Price’ tasking the two of them to live together for a month to win that million dollars. Challenges are issued, boundaries are tested, and conversations can no longer be avoided. The question is, can they stand the tension long enough to win?
Let me say again: this was so much FUN. I was hooked from chapter one. Olivia and Chuck’s fight told me everything I needed to know about their chemistry. It was combustible, and yet there was still so much more simmering beneath the surface.
When it came to the show premise, I mean…forced proximity? Check. Only one bed? Check. Oh, but the twist the show issued as their first challenge? CHECK because the tension was about to be off the charts. I couldn’t wait to find out how Holly James was going to handle that. She delivered in ways that included both the tenderness and heat that I mentioned at the beginning of this review.
The external factors in both Chuck and Olivia’s lives really gave the story a full-bodied feel and reinforced the three dimensional existence of their characters. These are not two characters signing on to reality television to make a quick buck and get their fifteen minutes of fame. They had genuine, understandable reasons for their choices. I loved the growth and self-actualizations they were able to achieve during their time in the house,
I enjoyed this book fully from beginning to end. Thank you to NetGalley and Dutton for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.
Oh em gee!! This book was so much fun!! I loved the premise of it; a game show of being locked in a house with your ex for a month to win a substantial cash prize!! The TENSION! My. Goodness! It was beautiful to see all the facets of the relationship between Olivia and Chuck; the memories, the fights, and the eventual vulnerability and growth.
There is 💯 on page, open door spice 🌶️ And those scenes are quite 🥵😉
Thank you, NetGalley, for my eARC!
I absolutely LOVED The Dejá Glitch by Holly James and was so excited to get this ARC. Then when I saw the clever premise of exes getting their second chance forced proximity reality tv game show style?? SOLD!
Unfortunately, I just couldn’t seem to get into it. There were definitely some clever moments and I love James’ descriptive writing, but in general I found the MCs to be unlikable and extremely immature. I kept powering through, but just didn’t fall in love. It wasn’t on the same level as the Dejá Glitch for me.
I will continue to look out for more books by Holly James in the future. The specific style of her descriptive writing really is inspiring to me!
Thank you to NetGalley for an advanced copy.
Thank you to NetGalley and Dutton Books for the ARC of Name Your Price by Holly James. This was my first novel by James, but it won't be my last! Name Your Price was so fun - the chemistry was off the charts! This isn't so much a slow burn as it is a constant sizzle- I loved both main characters, their character development, and the fun Hollywood/reality tie-in. This book is laugh-out-loud funny but also very heartfelt -- I love a book that can do both!
I'm so glad I read this one, and I'm off to read the rest of Holly James's novels; see you soon! Have you read any books by her?
Olivia and Chuck, a fiery couple with a tumultuous relationship, break up after a viral video of their fight. They're then roped into a reality game show where they must live together for a month, with a million dollars at stake. Olivia needs the money for her grandmother's care, and Chuck hopes to win her back. It's a high-stakes game with plenty of tension.
Personally, this book wasn't my favorite, I could not stand Olivia and their relationship felt like it was just physical. BUT "Deja Glitch" was a hit for me and I'll keep an eye out for more from the author.
Holly James's latest romantic comedy follows ex-couple, Chuck Walsh and Olivia Martin, who are confined in a locked house for a month to win a million dollars each. The show, Name Your Price, obtains a video of them during a heated argument and wants them to keep up that chemistry. The catch? Chuck and Olivia must keep their hands off each other, with rules that will cost them money if broken, while trying to play on everyone's fears. Name Your Price captures the ludicrous sincerity of made-for-TV love.
Name Your Price was such a fun story!! The characters were adorable, and I loved their witty banter. At first, I wasn’t sure where this book was going, but following the characters' development and their stories to unfold and merge, they won my heart in the end. I liked the author’s previous book, The Deja Glitch, and I loved this one even more! I would recommend this a fun beach read that you will continue to appreciate for a while after.
This was my first Holly James book. It had a lot of sizzle but didn’t feel like much substance at first. As I got further into the book, I realized there was more to Chuck and Olivia’s relationship.
Chuck and Olivia's epic public breakup is caught on video and blows up on social media. It gets noticed by a reality TV producer who offers them a million dollars if they can live in a house together for one month. With their explosive relationship, this will be a challenge.
I enjoyed the relationship between Olivia, Grandma Ruby, and her best friend, Mansi. Strong female characters are the best. The scandal with Olivia’s parents was not a big hook for me.
While I’m sure many readers will find this book enjoyable, I personally felt that it lacked the heartfelt moments I was hoping for. The angst and chemistry, while present, didn’t quite hit the mark for me. It's a decent romance, but I found it to be a bit repetitive at times.
Sparks ignite as a pair of broke exes get locked in a house together on a reality show for a chance to win a million dollars, a second-chance romance that perfectly captures the absurd sincerity of made-for-TV love.
What I Liked: In the last 20% of the book once they are out of the competition Liv starts taking control of her life. She helps Chuck get his career back on track by writing the article exposing why he got let go from his job and putting him into a better spotlight. But even more so Liv finally comes to terms with her parent's untimely death and eventually capitalizes on the story they never got to share with the world. I didn't really understand why she thought her parents hated her when she was a baby but I liked the plotline about Liv getting together with the "other woman" to hash it out. I also liked Liv's emotional arc of not running when things get rough and realizing that she was kind of the problem, not Chuck.
What I Didn't Like: The toxic relationship between Chuck and Liv for the first half of the book They're all sex and no communication. Liv seemed kind of immature. I mean she locks Chuck out of the house and makes him sleep on a pool chair because god forbid they share a bed. Like what are we 16? It felt like it went on like that for over 50% of the book and I was just over it.
Read if you like enemies to lovers, forced proximity, and second-chance romance. Thanks to the publisher for the ARC in return for an honest review. This book releases 7/30
I enjoyed this book! It was an interesting concept and idea that I haven’t heard before in a book which I really liked!! It was an interesting take on a more modern love story. The banter was so fun, the challenge was so fun I couldn’t put it down I had to see if they were able to win the million dollars or not!!
3.5 stars!
Perfect from start to finish! Great banter and a charming cast in Name Your Price — I loved Chuck and Olivia, loved how the story opened and unfolded, and thought the premise made for an entertaining journey. I was itching to get back every time I had to put it down, and was gasping as if actually watching this play out on air 😂
It didn’t disappoint!! Thank you so much to Netgalley and the publisher for a DRC in exchange for my honest review.
"How he could go from making her want to scream to make her ovaries burst in the same hour was truly a unique talent."
Would you agree to spend a month in the same house with your ex? For a million dollars 💰 🤔🤔
Well that's what happened to our heroine Olivia.
She and Chuck had just broken up and their break up went viral on the internet then they got spotted by the producers of the show Name Your Price.
The challenge is they have to spend a month in the same house with only one bathroom one bedroom no internet and no touching of any kind or else they will lose money easier said than done right?!😮💨😏 especially when the two cannot stand each other but also they cannot stay away from each other they are both fire and gasoline could she survive and not kill him and win a million dollar? Will it end badly? At the end there are both in the same house anything could happen and a speck of fire could light their passion on again 🔥🔥🔥.
Loved this book soooo much 😍 ❤️
From the first chapter I was hooked and laughing 🤣 so hard. It was different from all the other rom-coms I usually read which made it way more interesting ❣️.
Olivia & Chuck relationship was complicated, sweet, and fiery. I really loved the chapters were they were forced together and not trying to touch but they were dying inside 🫠🫠🫠.
So much angst and passion 💕💕.
It was written perfectly and I wish it could be made into a movie or TV show it would be a blast 😉.
Thank you so much @netgalley and the publisher for granting me an ARC of #NameYourPrice in exchange for my honest review.
Xoxo💋
NAME YOUR PRICE is a romance about two exes who are offered a prize of a million dollars if they can spend 30 days locked in a house without leaving or killing each other. without a doubt, it's one of the funniest, messiest books i've ever read and i had the time of my life!! it takes a very talented author to make me go from disliking the MMC in the beginning to loving him in the end, and that's exactly what happened. liv and chuck's chemistry was absolutely insane and the bickering, arguing and sexual tension in this book had me SWEATING but loving every minute.
read if you like:
- forced proximity
- second chance
- reality romance
thanks to netgalley and dutton for the advanced copy! NAME YOUR PRICE comes out july 30.
Well, it was a good read. It gave me a few butterflies and I enjoyed the snark. A solid contribution to my contemporary romance reads!
This was so much fun! Really the perfect rom-com and would be fabulous as a movie. Chuck and Olivia have such awesome chemistry and banter, plus the forced proximity game show adds the perfect amount tension. I felt like the stakes were at the right level: Liv needs the prize money to fund her grandmother's assisted living fees and Chuck is trying to stay afloat after mysteriously being fired from his big-break acting job. These two really struggle to keep their hands off each other which had me giggling and kicking my feet. They fight a lot, especially in the beginning (that's how they wind up on the show). But the way we learn about them while they learn about themselves and each other made for some great character development. Olivia and Chuck felt like real people with realistic flaws who needed to face their issues to move forward and the game show was a great setting and antagonist for this process. The pacing is consistent and the end of the story felt, honestly, perfect. I often feel like endings are either rushed or drawn out, but this was a great blend of third-act conflict, reconciliation, and upward growth. My one wish was that somehow Olivia and Chuck were able to sue the show for their prize money because the host broke contract by bringing up Chuck's job. But the actual endings solved their money troubles so I don't mind that this didn't happen. It just would have been fun karma for TJ.
Thank you so much to Dutton/PRH and NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for my honest review.🫶🏻

I absolutely loved this book! Holly is such a fun author to read and this book really had it all!! I did not want this book to end. Olivia and Chuck have witty banter, spice, tension and show so much growth as individuals and in their relationship! I love the touch of Hollywood scandal and reality tv! It’s a MUST READ if you’re a rom-com fan like me!
