I really wanted to love this book, but it just didn’t work for me. The plot had potential, and I’m a sucker for a good romcom, but I need more emotional depth than what this offered. The connection between the characters felt almost entirely physical—there was hardly any emotional intimacy, and when there was, it was so rare that it didn’t make me root for their relationship.
The pacing was off too. Some scenes felt out of place, while others I was actually interested in were glossed over. At one point, the plot shifted so abruptly due to a miscommunication that I couldn’t even process it. It felt random and threw the story off balance.
The conflicts were pretty silly, the characters immature, and overall the romance just didn’t land. I wouldn’t have minded if they parted ways by the end. That said, the author does write great dialogue, and I did find a few sweet moments. I’m definitely open to trying more from this author in the future, just not this particular book.
DNFing this one. Thanks anyway for the ARC, but after the first chapter things feel incredibly immature and I’m not interested in continuing.
This is a forced-proximity, second-chance celebrity romance with some spice. It was entertaining to read the reality tv show setting for the first half of the book. The last half of the book had them dealing with their personal dramas which helped with their character flaws. Overall, a fun and lighthearted read.

After a viral video, exes Olivia and Chuck sign on for a reality show. They agree to be locked in a house, and if they can make it (including following a variety of rules, completing challenges, etc.), then they'll win a million dollars each. They each need the money, so they go for it. For me, I was most drawn into the gameplay, so would've dug more of that. However, there also was an added layer of secrets/truths with each character's past and present, and it brought in some feels and complexities that I did not expect with relationships and their true realities. This was an interesting spin on a romance, and I dug the uniqueness of the story. Thanks to NetGalley for the look at this July 2024 release.
I'm normally wary of reality show based romances but this was a fun premise and I really liked the characters!
Name Your Price by Holly James was a good read. It was slightly predictable, and I wish the characters had been developed more. Thank you for allowing me to read and review this book.
This book starts off, quite literally, with a bang. After a passionate hook up and an even more passionate public argument, exes Olivia and Chuck become internet famous when a video of their blow up goes viral. Because of who they are: she an aspiring writer and the love child of Hollywood stars and he a Hollywood actor who is desperate to get off the B list and revive his career, they are offered the chance at a reality game show. The game’s premise: live together locked in a house for one month. The prize: one million dollars. Each.
Liv jumps at the chance to ensure that she can afford to give her grandmother the best care possible. Chuck jumps at the chance to win back Olivia and revive his career. Enter the usual romantic tropes of only one bed and forced proximity and combine with a rule of NO touching and it’s guaranteed to be a long month!
What I do love in a rom com is witty banter and hot chemistry, and this author delivered in both! I do love a good second chance romance, and this one made me laugh and swoon and fan my heated face as I cheered on our two MC’s. Sometimes I was a little frustrated by some immature behavior, but you do have to have some conflicts in a story to make a happy ending feel more complete.
Thanks, NetGalley and Penguin Group Dutton for the digital ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I know it's a bit of an inception having a book about a TV game show, but there's something about it that made me swoon all over it. "Name Your Price" follows Olivia and Chick, who did a very public viral video of their breakup where Olivia says, "I wouldn't get back together with you even for a million dollars," and Hollywood said BET and made a show out of it!
The tension and chemistry between Olivia and Chuck were to die for!! I would say it's a slow burn, but it's more like a continuously burning candle that never turns off. Anyway, I would totally recommend this book, it was so stinkin' cute. It def makes me think of the Netflix Show called "Perfect Match" because the show in the book even had challenges.
The book, in my opinion, concluded quite nicely. The writer provided us with further information regarding the course of their lives following the program and the outcomes that affected them both.
Two of my favorite tropes are forced proximity and second-chance relationships, and both are done incredibly well in this book. Anyone who like such tropes or decent reality TV should absolutely check this out.
Throughly enjoyed this book - I loved the premise of the book (and I am not a reality tv person). The couple splits up in public and a reality show teams sees the video of the break up and pitches the idea of the show to them. They agree- but for different reasons. She wants to pay for her grandma's nursing home, he wants a second chance at love with her. I will say this book felt a bit strung out, which is why it's a 3 star, but I think with some extra edits, it could have been a 4 star.

Overall the book was pretty good. The plot is a bit predictable and the characters could be more developed.
I absolutely loved Name Your Price by Holly James! This read exceeded my expectations, especially since this was my first read by this author. Being I did not know what to expect, I was initially hesitant, worrying that the miscommunication trope would not be of interest; I haven’t read a book with this trope before. The story was written well and this trope was definitely enjoyable! I loved the character development throughout the story - modern and unique! This is a perfect choice for a light read!
A fun story, but not a huge hit for me. I didn't relate to the characters and found a lot of their dialogue a turn off. The transition from hate to love felt rushed. It was hard for me to stay in the story.
This was a fun second chance romance with the reality tv twist. I enjoyed this as a fun light hearted romance. It gave me all kinds of feel good vibes. It’s a nice palate cleanser and bubble fun.
I liked the premise of the book. I loves Chuck and how he rationally tried to communicate, however Olivia was insufferable in the beginning. There was an abrupt shift in the plot that kind of throws you for a loop, but I e joyed the book more after this point rather than before. I do feel like there was a character progression for Olivia that did redeem her. The third portion of the book was much better for me than the forst parts. Overall it was a unique story with some spice, a third act breakup, and a redeeming quality.

Synopsis: Olivia Martin and Chuck Walsh have chemistry. Too much chemistry, perhaps. Their every interaction as a couple either lights the house up with sexual tension or burns it down with anger. After one huge, very public fight, they finally break up for good. Or so they think. Someone was filming their dramatic argument in the street and—because Olivia’s parents were Hollywood royalty, and because Chuck’s an actor whose star is on the rise—the video goes viral. When Name Your Price, a reality game show, sees the footage, they invite Olivia and Chuck to shoot a very unusual Live locked in a house together for one month and they will be paid a million dollars. Each.
Olivia really needs the money if she's going to keep her beloved grandmother in her nursing home, and Chuck is desperate for any chance to win Olivia back. So the game is on—even as the show tries to pluck every nerve with only one bed, one bathroom, and a set of rules that will lose them money if broken—including no touching. With stakes that have never been higher and their explosive chemistry at a fever pitch, can Chuck and Olivia keep it together (and their hands off each other) for one month? Find out next week on Name Your Price!
My Thoughts: I found this to be refreshing. I read romances and thrillers and this was an excellent palette cleanser. Their chemistry and witty banter was not only off the charts but the best I have read in a while. After a huge fight in the public, Olivia and Chuck break up for good. Unbeknownst to them, their fight was captured on video and went viral. A reality TV Show, “Name Your Price!”, gets a hold of this footage and feels that they are perfect for the show and if they can survive 30 days locked in a house, they will be millionaires. Each time they break a rule, it cost them money out of the cool million, such as the no touching rule. When you have palpable chemistry like theirs, the no touching rule is almost impossible not to break. With unresolved feelings on the surface, will they be able to last 30 days without touching each other, or breaking any other rules? Or will they risk the million (each) to be together, when they are both in desperate need of funds? This follows the tropes of second chance romance, forced proximity, one bed, rivalry, lovers to enemies to lovers, and reality tv. This book is truly best going in blind if possible.
Olivia was raised by her grandmother, they remain close, and she would do anything for her. She was kind, compassionate, and brilliant. Chuck had some bad blood in Hollywood and was trying to rebuild his reputation. He was sexy, swoony, and charming. The characters were well developed with depth, witty banter (so witty and so funny), chemistry (so hot, it was sizzling most of the novel), they were flawed, and felt authentic. The supporting characters really did support our MCs. The flashbacks of the beginning of their relationship that was interwoven into the storyline really adds another layer to the character’s authenticity. The author’s writing style was complex, swoony, funny, engaging, and even had a twist or two woven into the storyline. The characters were explored with their backstories established, the plot was delivered in a slow burn manner, and the HEA was really perfect.
Overall, I really enjoyed this story. While there was some stretched plot areas and questionable character behaviors, I did not feel that it ever “over-reached.” There is even a twist in the middle that I enjoyed, even if it was a bit questionable. The tropes of second chance romance and forced proximity were done very well in this story. The overall message of the book is hope, hope that even walking through the hard stuff graduates you to the easy, carefree stuff. I am really behind on my reviews with two hurricanes and other commitments, so I am trying to get one out a day, if I can. I have read a bunch of books but have not written the reviews. This was a fun story that touched my heart. It was swoony, charming, sweet, endearing mixed with witty banter and humor, the perfect balance for a rom-com. I would highly recommend picking it up today.
This was the kind of fun romance novel that I needed as a palate cleanser. Name Your Price is about two people in showbiz who very publicly breakup and it leads them to an opportunity to be part of a reality show. Cheesy, I know, but something about this one felt a little more real and easier to relate to. I loved the chemistry between Olivia and Chuck. I loved their supporting characters. Even better, their tumultous relationship was not frustratingly over the top.
This one was a huge thumbs up for me.
Second chance romance but it's also a reality competition?! Sign me up.
Oh wait, I did already. Ha, thanks NetGalley and Dutton Publishing for my DRC.
Take a Big Brother episode, but make it like Survivor (where you can't leave), and the grand prize of a million bucks! Yes.
This book had all the pieces, however, I wish it was a little less woe is me on the late parents, I felt like that one was a bit too much at times. While I can understand the reasoning why, it just seemed a bit excessive in certain parts.
Thanks again NetGalley and Dutton!

After their breakup goes viral, Olivia (publicist) and Chuck (B list celebrity) are offered a chance of a lifetime. Agreeing to appear on an episode of the hit reality show, Name Your Price, the pair can win a million dollars each if they can survive a month of sequestered living. Will they come out victorious, or will their differences force them to forgo life changing money?
Holly James’ Name Your Price is a fun, flirty, fast-paced read that I highly recommend!!!
As a fan of reality television shows (Big Brother, Survivor, The Real World, etc.) Holly James premise was right up my alley. I immediately connected with the characters and plot. It is a commentary on how we struggle with effectively communicating in relationships due to our own insecurities and experiences.
Read this book if you enjoy:
-witty banter
-forced proximity
-exes to lovers
-slow burn
-second chance romance
Special thanks to Netgalley, Penguin Group Dutton, and Holly James for allowing me to listen to this book in exchange for my honest review.
I just could not bring myself to care!!! I didn’t like the characters very much, the drama with her late parents felt ridiculous (she was a BABY! Nobody would be hating on her for existing, the forced drama was so *eyeroll*), the chemistry was supposed to be super hot but I didn’t FEEL anything…I wasn’t enjoying it, so I decided to put it to rest and move on. Sorry this one was not for me!
I picked this book to read because I'd read and like a different book by Holly James, and this one was ok... not great, but not a complete waste of time, either. The main characters certainly grew and changed throughout the novel, so that was good. I just wasn't really interested in the Hollywood setting. And the people who were involved in the show that came about from their very public breakup were all just awful people. The show was so manipulative and toxic, just reinforcing what I already think about Hollywood-types.
Plus, the nickname "Chuck" just really didn't do it for me.
