A fun, easy summer rom-com!
I loved the reality TV show premise of the book. The forced proximity trope was fun, too! I do think the story lost a little momentum around 70-80% through, and some of the dialogue/situations seemed a bit trite/convenient. Overall, though, the perfect amount of steamy and entertaining.
Olivia and Chuck’s relationship is finally over after explosive flights and even more hot steamy make ups. However what neither of them could have anticipated what they accidentally public breakup goes viral a popular reality show called “Name Your Price” approaches them to live in a house for one month. This book was so cute and fun and totally binge able in one sitting. This is my second Holly James book and it did not disappoint. I loved the dynamic between Olivia and Chuck and how their past histories were interwoven so seamlessly into the plot. I feel like both characters were so well written and I couldn’t get enough of their stories!
DNF @ 66%. This book feels like it was written by a completely different author than their last one, which I loved! The premise doesn’t really make sense- you show us the couple being absolutely terrible to each other, and then want us to root for them to get back together? Additionally, the pacing was all over the place and there were too many side stories going on that would all progress at the same time after long periods of lull. Also- IT’S NOT THAT HARD TO NOT HAVE SEX!!! A MILLION DOLLARS IS ON THE LINE!!
There is no doubt that Chuck Walsh and Olivia Martin have combustible chemistry. But between Chuck chasing after acting auditions and Olivia running at any sign of conflict, they have the make up and break up routine down pat. However, after Chuck flakes out on Olivia’s grandmother’s birthday celebration, this is the last straw for Olivia, or is it? After a very public argument, caught on film, what was supposed to be the absolute end of their relationship is rolled over into a reality television show. Both of them need the money even if they have to be trapped in the same house.
I am a sucker for reality tv storylines. Especially with two exes and a history like theirs. Obviously there are going to be contests, competitions and interviews. I thought Chuck was flaky at first, but he actually proves me wrong and demonstrates how much of a boyfriend he’d rather be than a past fling. Olivia had celebrity parents who are now deceased and most of her insecurities are tied into that so she avoids the spotlight. Now that she’s on camera, she has no choice but to be the object of public opinion. The whole experience is both funny and entertaining because they are like a married couple except they were supposed to be permanently broken up and realize they know each other better than anyone else. What about the love part and everything that goes with it in a committed relationship? There’s definitely some second thoughts there, but certain truths have to be laid out and secrets revealed and is it worth breaking the contract for the money that they both desperately need? This was a cute story with charming characters and enjoyable plot overall.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the Publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
2.5⭐️
The first 2/3 of the book was about how the two main characters fight all the time, but have so much sexual chemistry they can’t stay away from each other. It was all very toxic, and though as the story develops you find more reasoning behind their behaviors, it still doesn’t make you root for the couple. Throw in a reality tv show for two money starved individuals and you now have forced proximity and the manipulation of the producers. The characters fell flat and the game portion of the book was a bit boring. To be honest, it all got a lot more interesting in the last 15% or so. Not a bad book, but it was a bit of a miss for me. It’s a quick read and would be best read on the beach or by the pool.
This story was just not for me. In the beginning, that whole first chapter makes the same joke (the physical relation was amazing while the emotional part was not) over and over and over again until they finally break up. Except, wait, we aren't rid of the terrible guy yet! Not much about this story seemed plausible. Like, why is the only television in a retirement home rec room turned to some celebrity clip show instead of old movies or the news? Didn't make sense. Anyway, this was a swift DNF for me.
Chuck and Olivia have a very passionate, explosive relationship that ends on the sidewalk in a very public way. Before they know it the epic fight has gone viral and they are approached to be on a TV show. Against her better judgement, Olivia agrees because she really needs the money. I really enjoyed this book and the forced close proximity. The reader gets insight on both characters and their flaws and why they have had such a rocky relationship. The author tugged at my heart strings and made me feel for both characters. Overall, a well written story.
Olivia and Chuck have always had great chemistry but lately if seems like they are fighting just as much as they are making up. After their last fight and their break up goes viral they are offering an opportunity that helps both out: Live with each other for one month without either on leaving. Can they do it?
This was quick read almost 2 quick. Every aspect of the book felt rush and left me wanting more. I also would of like if this would been dual pov. Having only Olivia point of view almost made me dislike her but I absolutely loved Chuck.

Thank you netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this complimentary books. All thoughts are my own.
I absolutely adored this rom-com! I felt like I was watching a reality tv show. It was like if Too Hot to Handle and Marriage Bootcamp had a baby. I loved the characters especially the FMC. We truly got to know her and why she acts the way that she does. I already expressed to my book club that this will be our August Choice! Thank you!

Thank you Dutton for the review copy of Name Your Price by Holly James. James is an author I enjoy, she tends to offer themes that are topical and fit in with pop culture/romance themes but takes them in interesting directions. For me this book was a fun, quick read and great for a long airport delay but... at the same time I was looking for more. At times the plot alluded I felt to deeper directions that book could have gone in (such as really getting into why the male MC flaked on the female MC at the start of the book, exploring the fairly repugnant and problematic scope of the reality show host and premise, why we watch media like the proposed reality show..., our obsession with celebrity gossip) but it never quite found one edgy theme and stuck with it, which left me feeling like some of the book was a lost opportunity. The themes are still there but I wanted to go darker, at least deeper, and avoid the rush to the HEA.
That doesn't mean that this isn't a fun book and that I did not enjoy it, I did, but I really think a more developed plot was here with a little more development.
Another miss for me from Holly James. I love the premise. The execution was shaky. I was missing the depth of the characters
James does it again. I've loved her other books and this was no different! She created REAL characters that felt like REAL people and made you fall in love with them. You must read this one!
A fun, second chance romance with enough ridiculousness and angst to keep you going!
Sparks ignite as a pair of broke exes get locked in a house together on a reality show for a chance to win a million dollars.
I enjoyed this read. It is the perfect mindless beach read that no doubt one should pick up this summer.
Olivia and Chunk are ridiculous main characters but endearingly so. I struggle with second chance romance, but this one was fun, had a solid foundation, and one I was willing to root for. They're passionate, a little broken, but earnest in how the other makes them feel.
I enjoyed the thoughtful side characters, Chuck's celebrity status, the reality tv show setup, but especially the more serious topics like their financial situation, Chuck's firing, and Olivia's parents. It all worked well, but didn't take away from the romance.
Overall, an easy read that will make you giggle, shake your head, and put on your favorite trash reality tv show afterwards.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for my gifted electronic advanced reader's copy in exchange for honest review.
Oh. My. Gosh! This story was sooooo cute!! And the premise was something I've never read before: a broken up couple went viral after their break up being filmed in the street, and they were approached by a game show to earn a million dollars each...but there was a catch. MANY catches, actually. No internet, no touching, daily challenges...it was like Big Brother with sexual tension. This story was so well written, the characters were deep and well developed, and the plot kept me wanting more. My only wish was that there was more of the "in the house" time before it ended, but that's me being picky! 5 stars!
I really enjoy Holly James and she is a newer writer. The romcom are Corky and funny and she has well developed characters. I feel like she just gets women and men and relationships.

Name Your Price was an entertaining, tv drama, rom-com read. We have two of the most gorgeous Hollywood hotties, Olivia and Chuck, who cannot seem to make their relationship work no matter how much they are drawn to each other. This book definitely plays out the forced proximity, ex- lovers trope to the T and I was here for it! Olivia and Chuck find themselves on a high stakes reality TV show for prize money of $1 million dollars if they can live in a house together without being together. It definitely sparked my interest to see if they could make it or break it when challenges arose from the crew, the jerk show host, and even their pent up feelings for one another. It also made me think about what I do for that sum of money? Would you ever subjugate your partner for reality TV all for the sake of $1 million dollars? I mean groceries and cost of living are high y’all…
My one bump in the road was the third act break-up and the drama around it. I felt like Chuck was just a basic Chris Evens look alike, but I was looking for more character depth from him. One character I did enjoy reading was Olivia’s grandma, she was a hoot!
Overall this was a quick, face paced read that is perfect for your next summer vacation. This was my first book by Holly James I look forward to reading the rest of her books to come! Thank you NetGalley and Penguin Group Dutton for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Could you live under the same roof for a month with your ex for the chance to get 1 million dollars? How bout if the breakup is super recent, and your ex is super hot/charming/sexy?
4.5 stars for this; I loved this book! What a cute and fun storyline. And holy chemistry! It burned off the page for these two. This was a simmering slow burn, worth every second of the build up. The backstory of Olivia’s past and her parents was an added layer that I loved.
Would definitely recommend this one!

I read the ARC and I wasn´t sure about it because I was not a fan of Holly Jamses' 1st novel. But I was more than pleasantly surprised, I loved this book so much. The story is original and the characters lovable. 10/10

This had a really fun premise and I was intrigued by the concept. It took some somewhat unexpected twists and turns. But, it just wasn’t for me. I didn’t connect with the characters or the story, and the dialogue often felt more telling than showing, which took me out of the moment. I didn’t fully buy the romance and it all kind of felt like beautiful people being idiots.
2.5 rounded up. Thank you for the ARC and opportunity to review.
Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Group for this Advanced Reader’s Copy in exchange for an honest review!
Name Your Price began very superficial, as it seemed that the majority of Olivia and Chuck’s relationship was solely based off of their physical and sexual attraction toward one another. As the story continues, it pulls out several classic rom-com moves straight out of early two-thousands movies, which I’m always a sucker for.
I would rate the story higher, but I unfortunately felt a lack of true chemistry and depth within the main characters’ romantic relationship, and I had a hard time with Chuck as a character because he just truly did not seem that great of a dude.
This story was a fun read, nevertheless, and I appreciate this ARC!
