A fun rom-com meets reality tv romance. Think Big Brother, but with one couple and they have to complete challenges together to win the ultimate prize. Olivia and Chuck have a very public break up that lands them trending online which piques the interest of a television producer. The couple will get a million dollars each if they survive one month locked in a house together. Sounds easy right? Lots of obstacles along the way including handcuffs, lies, and tight spaces. Quick read and if you enjoy some romance, comedy, and reality tv then this if for you. It was a little much with the plot at times, but overall a different read. 3.9 stars.
Holly James's latest book is perfect for all game show fans :)
Name Your Price is an unusual romcom that I'm so glad I picked up! Quirky, unique, and laugh-out-loud funny this book is enjoyable from the beginning. This is the first book I've read by Holly James but it won't be the last!
I really enjoyed this one! I loved that she made an actor and a writer seem “just like” regular people. Grandma Ruby was also a favorite character as she seemed really sweet but also held her own secrets. I thought the story was great up until the major sex scene; it felt a little shallow and expected, I guess? I just felt like the author spent so much time showing how they actually had a relationship with depth while they lived in the house and the sex scene felt like it cheapened the quality of their relationship. Overall, would recommend!
This was such a cute rom com! I enjoyed reading this story and loved the chemistry between the two main characters.
Thank you to netgalley for this ARC!
Name Your Price has such a fun premise for the book! I LOVED the book, but went back and forth the whole time I’m trying to decide if I liked Chuck and Olivia. I really enjoyed Chuck’s character growth and understanding him better as the story went on. With that being said, this book is a fun rom-com for anyone who loves reality TV!
I could not stop reading this book!! I loved reading about Olivia and Chuck in the house <3 The forced proximity and the addition of the rule that <spoiler> they could not touch without losing prize money </spoiler> highlighted and intensified each moment they had together! For example, <spoiler> the secret moment in the pantry!?!?! </spoiler> Of course, chemistry was never the problem for them, but the house allowed them to finally be more emotionally vulnerable with each other and talk through their major issues.
In the beginning, Olivia painted Chuck in a pretty unflattering light so I wasn't sure how to feel about him, but he won me over and was so, so sweet! The resolution for more minor issues (such as dishes, cleanliness, etc) weren't addressed as much, but I'd like to think that Olivia and Chuck were able to work through those.
This book has forced proximity, some forbidden love, a bit of opposites attract, and insane chemistry. If you love reality TV shows like Bachelor in Paradise/Big Brother definitely read this book! (I used to religiously watch the Bachelor/Bachelorette/Bachelor in Paradise, so no surprise that I loved this book :) )
Thanks to NetGalley and Penguin Group for this ARC!
Cute and fast paced rom-com. The game show idea in this book was unique and funny as well as an interesting concept for a forced proximity trope. I will for sure be checking out the other books by Holly James.
Thank you to Netgally for providing this ARC.
3.5 rounded down. This book was cute and I really enjoyed a reality TV concept. I would have loved if the book started with the headlines from her parents scandal and then went into hers. The drama and tension was fun, I just didn’t feel the romantic connection between the characters.
I really enjoyed this book and will definitely being going back to check out her backlist. There was such a wonderful tension between our leads. I know other reviewers mentioned hoping for a little more volatility in the house as it was indicated that they really could not stand each other, but I appreciate that it was not over the top or truly mean because it is hard for me to root for a couple after we get to that level. This was really strong and hit a lot go the marks people are looking for so I cannot wait to recommend this.
Olivia and Chuck's chemistry is unbelievable and it is either bad or good which can blow up their face. They fight and they make up. This goes on and on until one day they have a gigantic fight in public and break up for good, Unbeknownst to either of them their break up was filmed. This happened because Olivia is the "golden child" of her parents who are considered Hollywood Royalty. Chuck is an actor whose star is starting to shine very bright, Because of this video, a reality show offers them a million dollars to coexist in a house for a month with out any physical contact. There are a few other rules to and games that they will need to participate in. The decide to do it. Both of them have reasons why they want that million dollars and it should make for good tv, So now one wonders how this is going to work. Will they be a able to keep a hands off policy going or will they give in to the attraction and lose the money bit by bit. This book will have the reader laughing from the very start. This book was good read and a must for anyone who loves a good ROM-COM.
OMG! I absolutely loved this more than I thought I would.
The chemistry between the two main characters is 🫶🏻
I found myself laughing a ton in this book and loved the forced proximity trope.
definitely need to grab a copy of this one!

This book hooked me in from the first chapter. I loved the character development and how the story progressed.
This book was alright, honestly. I think I was expecting way better thus my disappointment but overall i think it was a fun enjoyable read. The characters especially the heroine was a little bit annoying at times and it was hard to keep on reading but I pushed myself because I just wanted to k ow how it ended.
I will admit that it took me a few times to really get into this book. Once I reached chapter 7 i was hooked. Chuck may seem like a self-absorbed a$$hole to Olivia, but I fell in love with him so easily. Olivia, I understand why you always want to jump his bones whenever you’re near him. There is quite a bit of miscommunication, so if that’s an ick for you then you might want to skip. I was so happy to see that Olivia was able to realize how she was letting her past and what she believed affect her relationship with Chuck. I loved how Chuck and Olivia tried to turn each other on by doing the things they knew would set each other off. Out of all the people behind the show, I hated TJ with a burning passion.
If you were offered a million dollars to live in the same house as your ex for thirty days... would you do it? Oh AND you aren't allowed to touch.
I've never been drawn to second chance romance books, but this might have sold me. I loved how the book began with action so there wasn't an issue with having to wait for the plot to pick up. The two main characters had so much depth to them and it was refreshing to read a romance book that wasn't just romance, there were real people behind the romance. The writing was fabulous and I was truly rooting for the characters along the way. Also huge props to Holly James for having female characters talk about something other than men.
tropes:
second chance romance
he falls harder
witty banter
forced proximity
tv reality show
Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Group Dutton for gifting me this ARC in exchange for my honest review! This is my first Holly James book and rest assured it will not be my last. I cannot wait for the publish date so I can get a hard copy of this book!
After reading The Deja Glitch, I was so excited to read Name Your Price. Boy, oh boy, this did not disappoint.
Olivia and Chuck's chemistry is off-the-charts. I'm used to sexual chemistry in romance novels (duh), but these two felt more like magnets that couldn't help but be drawn to each other. I loved the reality tv aspect of the book, as it allowed Olivia and Chuck to explore both their problems as a couple, as well as their own issues with their lives in Hollywood.
I really loved this book. Holly James has solidified herself on my list of favorite authors with this book, and I can't wait to see what she does next.
Nice lighthearted rom-com! The characters had great banter and there was good tension between them. It took a little bit to really get into the story and fall in love with the characters but I enjoyed that the character's flaws were seen in the story because it made them feel more like regular people. The ending was a little quick but otherwise an enjoyable read.
5 stars. 10/10. I didn’t know how badly I needed this book until I started reading it.
After a public break up with her B list actor boyfriend, entertainment journalist Olivia loudly proclaims that she wouldn’t stay with him for a million dollars.
Next thing she knows a reality show comes knocking with just that premise, if they can live together for a month they’ll give them each a million dollars. With them both needing the cash they decide to do it. How bad can it be?
Really bad when they aren’t allowed to touch each other and the reality crew is doing everything in their power to get them to fall in love again.
I loved this book. The premise was fun. Olivia and Chuck were both great. I loved the sexual tension and the heart of the story. I can’t recommend it enough.
Thank you NetGalley and Pegnuin Group Dutton for the Arc.
Was pleasantly surprised with how captivating Name Your Price was and just how much I loved the characters. The game show ex-lovers, unmatched chemistry made it fit into an untapped category of reads for me. Chuck and Olivia have both the banter and the spice to make it a page turner. Would you stay cooped up with your ex in a house for a month for the chance to win a million dollars each?? Throw in the few challenges, no internet and ONE BED!! Holly James did a great job incorporating just the right about of spice, unwavering chemistry and banter so good it will have you ugly laughing. Definitely recommend this to any reader who loves a witty, independent FMC and a MMC who will do anything to not let the one get away!!
