3.5 STARS - Name Your Price has a strong start that's both high-adrenaline and hilarious, it hooked me immediately. I loved the nod to Jack and Gemma (squee!), and the premise of the show. I did not particularly care for the character motives (needing money to care for an ailing parental figure/grandparent has been done a few too many times), and the character romance/relationship felt like it got put on the backburner at the 75% mark to tie up the other loose plot ends, many of which were resolved too easily for my liking.

Thank you to NetGalley, Penguin Group and Dutton Books for the ARC and the opportunity to read and review this title.

3.5 stars. A couple’s very public break-up on a sidewalk on L.A. goes viral so they are presented with the opportunity to participate in a reality television competition. Stay in a house together for one month and they receive a huge payout. The only problem is, they can’t stop fighting. This premise, although unbelievable, was a lot of fun. The chemistry between the two characters, Chuck and Olivia, was sweet and palpable. This light-hearted and entertaining romance was just what I needed at the moment. I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley.

This was my first book by Holly James, and although I liked the premise, the execution was lacking. I didn't feel connected to either of the main characters, who were immature and superficial. Most of the characters, in fact, were cardboard cutouts of the roles they were playing. The book would've benefitted from a dual POV so the reader could get Chuck's side of the story. With only Olivia's perspective and her constant lusting after him, the romance lacked depth and was purely physical. The game show challenges—in particular, having to put together furniture handcuffed—should have been funny, but they came off as boring. I felt no tension at all. The fact that they didn't even make it a week before throwing in the towel was simultaneously disappointing and a relief.

On the up side, I did find Olivia's relationship with her grandmother to be a sweet side story. That not only gave her a strong motivation for agreeing to go on the show, but it also helped give her character some much-needed depth.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a free ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book is un-putdown-able. The reality show premise had me HOOKED. It released serotonin in my brain higher than even a bachelor finale does (or more like men/women tell all). I wanted this to be real life. I loved the mix of feeling like a viewer but also getting all the behind the scenes of a celebrity trope relationship.

The use of single POV of this was genius. We start off mid-break up and I am 100% on this girl’s side. I didn’t know how this was going to end up a satisfying second chance romance. Until I realized Olivia is absolutely an untrustworthy narrator. We start to see Chuck from new perspectives or just hear him out at all. Because Olivia stuck in a house for a million dollars realizes she has a tendency to always run away. But in every miscommunication trope haters dream she can’t go anywhere and they have to TALK IT OUT. It is glorious. There’s also challenges for the show and producer plays for views. The stakes felt so high with Olivia trying to protect her family’s history and with Chuck’s celebrity status.

By the end you get the full picture and trust me it’s such a satisfying romance. The way they look out for each other and still have mutual respect even as exes. And some of their tough and tense interactions and conversations just had me. Also, this isn’t overly spicy but it is mostly open door for the 2ish scenes and overall high tension heat between the two of them. They were made for each other.

Thank you to Dutton Books/PRH for the eARC. I LOVED it! Now I need to read this author’s other book.

This second-chance romance is fun, sexy, and features celebrities and game shows. Name Your Price tells the story of writer Olivia and actor Chuck who have a breakup fight that goes viral where both say no amount of money could pay them to get back together despite a fierce attraction to each other. A game show called Name Your Price recruits both to come on a show that will pay them $1 million each to live together for a month.

Strapped for cash to pay for her grandmother's nursing home expenses, Olivia agrees to do the show. But it isn't just living together. The show's staff has created common obstacles that couples navigate in the real world such as no dishwasher, one bathroom, and building furniture together. All while not being allowed to touch or else they get fined for each infraction. With their hot and cold history, things really heat up in the house while living together.

At first we don't see Chuck as more than a vain actor concerned about appearances, but as Olivia lets her guards down, Chuck lets her in and we get more of the depth of his character. Not to mention, Olivia's got her own traumatic past related to her celebrity parents who died when she was a baby that she is struggling to navigate while being thrust into the spotlight.

Scandals, flirtation, and antics only couples go through keeps this book moving. I read it all in one sitting and couldn't put it down. I was given an ARC copy of this book to read, and all opinions are my own.

I have tried to read other things by Holly James, and I have DNF’d them all. I tried to give this one a shot, but I have had the hardest time wanting to pick it up and read it. Just don’t think it’s for me.

I have read all 3 of Holly James's novels now, and Name Your Price comes out on top as my favorite. It's also one of my favorite rom coms I've read in a good while. I am a reality dating show FREAK and Holly captured all of the perfect elements to brew up the most sinister (and hilarious) situation possible. I literally laughed out loud at multiple points. Not a whoosh of breath through the nose. A belly laugh. I fell in love with Chuck and Olivia and couldn't have asked for a better ending. This one will be getting a few rereads for sure.

Is there anything more terrifying than the thought of being locked in a house full of cameras with only your ex to keep you company? When Olivia and Chuck’s public outburst put them in the crosshairs of a reality show’s production crew, with their backs against the wall, there’s only one possible decision. Will they be able to follow the rules of the show and win the million dollars?

Sweet romance with great character development!

Thank you NetGalley for this ARC! Here’s my honest review:

I wanted to love this book so much. I really did. The plot really intrigued me and I thought the story had SO much potential. I love a cheesy little romcom as much as the next girl! BUT I do need a level of depth to my reads that I felt like this book lacked.

To start, the main character’s connection was purely physical. The entire book is basically built around their attraction and tension. Rarely do you get any nuggets of emotion depth. It was so few and far between that when it’d happen I’d be holding on for dear life. I could probably count on one hand how many times they connected on an emotional level throughout this book. That’s just not enough for me to root for them.

As for the plot, it personally felt a little directionless. Some scenes just felt like they didn’t fit in the book. There were parts I would have wanted to explore further that were overlooked. And there were parts I could have cared less about that became the centerpiece. It just felt choppy and poorly paced.

Without spoilers I’ll say this: the main plot of the book at one point shifts so abruptly it caught me so far off guard. For lack of a better term it just felt so random? I couldn’t grasp how we were full swing into the story and then it suddenly just… stopped. All because of a simple miscommunication.

The conflicts were silly, the characters were beyond immature, and the romance just fell flat. I couldn’t root for these characters and wouldn’t have minded if they part ways in the end.

Overall — it wasn’t for me and that’s okay! It did have some sweet moments sprinkled in and I would have loved more of that! Because this author does write captivating dialogue. A big positive in my book! Would read more by this author in the future for sure. This just wasn’t the one for me.

Oh my goodness this big brother/too hot to handle vibes romcom following two exes who agree to be on a show, living together for a month in order to win a million dollars (each, thank you Olivia) is just so delightful!

I came for the love story and the hope that Olivia and Chuck could work out their issues in sweet sweet proximity, but stayed for the profound personal story and growth that my girl Olivia underwent!!! The exes baiting each other and clearly still being very very very into each other was the expected fun, but Olivia learning more about why she runs and how that’s connected to her parents’ lives and deaths was the unexpected bonus!!

Thank you so much to Holly James and NetGalley for a chance to read this in exchange for an honest review. Name Your Price comes out on July 30, 2024!

This was my first book by Holly James and I really enjoyed it! Olivia and Chuck went viral for a very public break up fight. A reality show contacted them and for a chance to win one million dollars they must live together for one month. If someone leaves, they lose the money. They also lose chunks of money if they touch each other. Their sexual chemistry is off the charts but the only problem is, they fight, A LOT. They both have their reasons for needing money so they both agree to the deal.

This book is unlike anything I’ve ever read before, which I appreciate! Between the challenges the show throws in and their fire chemistry, this makes such an entertaining read. Chuck made me swoon quite a few times! The forced proximity forces them to face each other and their problems head on. Maybe they fought so much because they just misunderstood each other?

Overall, I was pleasantly surprised with this book. Cute, easy read!

Thank you NetGalley and Penguin Group Dutton for this ARC! This is my honest review.

Thank to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of Name Your Price. Olivia and Chuck, exes with remarkable chemistry who cannot get along. When their very heated breakup goes viral, they’re offered a million dollars to go on Name Your Price. All they have to do to win big is live together for one month. But can they survive?

Forced proximity and second chance romances are some of my favorite tropes and they’re both done really well. This book was a lot of fun and I would definitely recommend it!

I absolutely loved this book! i thought that 'Name Your Price' is one of my favorite light romance reads of 2024 thusfar. I really thought it was so well written and developed. I also thought that the characters were very easy to root for and easy to visualize. I thought the ending was also executed so good too! My only wish was that it was a tadddddd but longer. I think another 100 pages would've been perfect. That being said I would read it again in a heartbreak and recommend it to all my friends.

Thank you so much to Holly James and PENGUIN GROUP Dutton for the eARC to review. I loved this book! I mean who doesn't love a reality TV second chance love romance?!?! Olivia and Chuck's story is so well written. The game show reminds me a bit of Netflix's Too Hot Too Handle which is one of my favorites. I definitely recommend this to any one who love some good reality TV.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review. Name Your Price follows Olivia, the infamous love child of two Hollywood celebrities turned journalist, and Chuck, a B-list actor, who are always either breaking up or making up. The book opens with them having a fight on the street in front of Chuck’s apartment building which a passerby films. Producers of a reality TV show see the video, which has gone viral, and invite Olivia and Chuck to be on the show for a chance to win a million dollars. Olivia wants nothing less but the retirement home where her beloved grandmother lives is threatening eviction if she can’t keep up with the rent and Chuck wants the chance to win Olivia back.

Olivia and Chuck are well-developed characters with believable chemistry and I understood both their motivations for breaking up and why they wanted to be together. However, I struggled to get through the majority of scenes about filming the reality show. The producers of the show kept intentionally bringing up painful moments from the characters' lives and blindsiding them in interviews for the drama. While I understand that this is likely realistic and worked to move the plot forward, I found it hard to read about characters continuously being put in unpleasant situations by people who were taking advantage of them. Although I didn’t enjoy this aspect of the book, I think it shows how well-written it is that Holly James was able to make me feel deeply connected with these characters and want the best for them. By the end of the book we get to see Olivia and Chuck have both individual character development and grow as a couple. It was rewarding to see them learn to communicate and how to best support each other. While this book didn’t personally work for me, I am excited to see what else Holly James publishes in the future.

This book left me in a what’s gonna happen next stance for almost a majority of the book! This book reminds you of reality tv shows and what must really go on behind the drama. Olivia and Chuck are cute together, but seriously Olivia, you need to tone it down sometimes. Team Chuck 100%.

Olivia and Chuck have amazing chemistry in this heartfelt, rom-com style novel about a couple who has a huge breakup that breaks the internet, and then tries to live together for a month to win a million dollars. It’s exactly as entertaining as it sounds. The will they/won't they energy was strong and the switching between banter, steam, earnestness, and arguments was super entertaining. Although the lead-up and talk about their physical connection was often, there were only two scenes of intimacy, so thankfully that wasn’t the whole book. The actual plot line and character development was actually well done, especially since they both had a long way to go. I like how the relationship issues were actually talked about and not just smoothed over making the fiction romance feel more attainable. Overall this was an enjoyable quick romance, easily 4 stars.
