Name Your Price" by Holly James totally hit the spot for me - it's like the perfect blend of reality TV drama and a steamy romance novel that you just can't put down. I felt like I was right there in the audience, watching everything unfold on the show, but with the juicy bonus of knowing all the behind-the-scenes emotions and thoughts of Olivia and Chuck. Their chemistry is off the charts, and I was here for it, especially during those intense moments in the house. What really got me was how James captured their inner battles and how these struggles impacted their rollercoaster relationship. But beyond the romance and tension, it was refreshing to see how they fought for each other, against all odds. And that ending? Absolutely perfect! It tied everything together in such a satisfying way. This book is a definite page-turner, and it's earned a solid 4 stars from me. Great for anyone who loves a romance with a bit of reality TV flair!
When a video of Olivia, child of legendary and scandalous hollywood stars, and Chuck, b-list actor, goes viral. They are volatile and are constantly fighting with each other. They are propositioned to live together for a month for a prize. If either of them leaves, they loose a million dollars. It was so wonderful to see Chuck and Olivia’s story unfold during their wild stay in the reality show house. Olivia and Chuck both had their issues and the story show cased how to appreciate your partner and fight for each other, not fight with each other. I really enjoyed Holly’s style of writing in this book and would read future releases from her.
GOOD WRITING!
GOOD CHARACTERS!
GOOD PLOT!
I liked this book a lot! It was so easy to get through because it was so intriguing and you couldn’t help but just route for the couple straight away. The plot was so unique and done so well. The characters were funny and so cute together!
If I had to criticize it I would say I wish it delved a little deeper into the emotional aspect of them forgiving each other and working towards bettering themselves. Also I wish the game show aspect lasted a bit longer because they only last six days out of the month. I feel like it would’ve been better to gloss over some of the days and it would’ve made it more emotional and a bigger impact if they had made it closer to the reward.
4.5 ⭐️ for this absolute gem from Holly James ! She truly encapsulates the humor, banter, sexiness and fun of a reality TV comedy, but in a way that actually makes you want to root for the couple!
This book was such a fun concept that serves as a great reminder to give yourself grace and allow for vulnerability. An absolutely great read that should be on everyone’s TBR! Thank you to NetGalley + the Holly James team for the advanced reader copy.
This was fun, entertaining, sweet, and tender, and I LOVED how it all played out! I’m a sucker for reality tv, so the initial plot with a game show is right up my alley. It’s something I’d love to watch, but I especially loved the “behind the scenes” aspect of the story. The chemistry between Olivia and Chuck is undeniable! It went above and beyond my expectations- I loved the development of the characters and all the relationships involved in the story. I’d definitely recommend!
Olivia and Chuck are A LOT. But they're a lot of drama, a lot of chemistry, a lot of realness and a lot of love. Chuck is an up and coming actor who has been labeled as trouble(unwarranted). Olivia is a writer who is the child of two celebrities with bad reputations. Together they are explosive. They are electric together, but their fighting is epic. In their final fight as a couple, it spills outside and is recorded and goes viral(naturally). Hell, it was a great fight. They get talked into starring in a reality show full of challenges to get them to give the network the drama of the viral video. Olivia does it for the money. She's supporting her grandmother in a facility that she can't afford. Chuck also wants the money, but he wants to get Olivia back. I honestly didn't expect such a touching story with how they were fighting. Chuck doesn't want to let anyone down and Olivia doesn't want to let anyone in. Olivia learns the truth about her parents. That they loved each other and Olivia and were a happy couple. The media portrayal of them was false and hurtful. Olivia gets to right this wrong. She also learns why Chuck was labeled as trouble and was able to fix that as well. My review is not doing this book justice. It's an enjoyable read with likeable characters. Except TJ, F TJ.
I was given this ARC in exchange for an honest review. I look forward to reading more from this author.
Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Group for a digital ARC of Name Your Privce.
I wasn't sure I was going to like this, knowing the two MC's had chemistry, because I love to see the tension unfold and I thought I would be told instead of shown. Let me tell you, I was wrong! This had everything I needed in a RomCom. Funny parts, especially from Chuck. Swoon-worthy moments and perfectly paced tension. More than that, towards the end I loved the underlying themes and the character transformations. I would give this book no less than 3.5 stars, inching towards 4.
5 stars 🌟
Thank you, Netgalley and Dutton publishers, for the ARC of Name Your Price by Holly James!
Olivia and Chuck have really good chemistry, but they have explosive fights, resulting in multiple breakups and makeups. After a very public breakup was filmed and went viral, a game show called Name Your Price reaches out to Olivia and Chuck, offering them one million dollars if they can live in the same house for one month. Both of them need the money badly enough to agree, but the show has many twists that neither expected. Can they survive the month to win the jackpot?
Omg ya'll, this was so good! The chemistry between the two MCs was explosive! The forced proximity made both MCs reevaluate their place in the relationship and their behavior. Both of them grew so much in this book, and it was so nice to see. I can't recommend this book enough!
I really enjoyed this book! I’d give it 4.5. Second chance romance, living together by forced proximity. Chuck and Olivia had all the chemistry and the spice level was hot, but they struggled to communicate and not just jump each other! Plenty of embarrassing laughable moments as they tried to torture each other while they attempted to resist their chemistry and pull to each other. Not to give anything away, but I liked how they figured out their problems and lack of communication and happy with the way it ended. All in all, an enjoyable and fun read.
As a lover of James’ “The Deja Glitch,” I was so thrilled to receive an ARC of her upcoming release and I was not disappointed in the slightest!
This story was so fresh and different, which kept me captivated for the entirety of the novel. The characters are so electric together, which was only one small piece of what I adored. Such great banter, and such explosive spice!! I ate this up in less than 24 hours.
Overall, a 4.5 rounded up!!

QOTD: Would you accept the challenge to live with your ex for one month for a reality TV show with the chance of winning $1 million dollars?
This story is about the breathtaking relationship between a famous actor, Chuck, and reporter, Olivia. The book starts off with their breakup in the street where paparazzi captures pictures from a distance. It quickly escalates into being in the spotlight and leads to TV game show, Name Your Price. The banter and romance between the two was great and added perfectly to the chemistry they had. Throughout the book you learn so much about these characters and their relationship. These two were always looking for each other, even when they are fighting. No matter how hard they try, their connection is really and irresistible. The support they had for each other’s issues was so heartwarming that you can really see they genuinely cared for one another. It was fantastic!
Did I mention in order to win this money they were not allowed to touch one another in any way over the course of the month or they get docked money? Will they win the big money or lose it all? Find out on July 30th!
Thank you @netgalley & @duttonbooks for this ARC in exchange an honest review.
Would you accept $1 million to live with your ex for a month? Fans of Big Brother and Love Island, and honestly any sort of reality TV/celebrity gossip — this is a must read!
Holly James crafted a novel with beautiful prose and the most intense chemistry. I appreciate her writing style in this novel, as it never once took away from the story or was filler. The restraint between Olivia and Chuck is impressive, and Holly James delivers readers with a new play on a slow burn here. Found it unique as the MCs aren’t dancing around their feelings wondering how the other person feels, their physical attraction is blatant.
There is a scene in the kitchen where Chuck and Olivia begin to address their faults, and why they broke up. Olivia’s inner dialogue broke my soul, made my heart speed up and slow down all at once and also made me nauseous.
I’d miss every dinner reservation to just eat cereal for dinner and watch a Parks and Rec rerun with my guy. That sounds absolutely perfect.
One of my favorite relationships in this book is Olivia’s and her grandma. The sacrifices Olivia makes to give her grandma a beautiful and easy life have more dimension to her character.
I spent a lot here talking about Olivia, but Chuck’s prioritization of his family and their happiness is swoon worthy. If Olivia is one to runaway, Chuck is one to run in head on.
Their character growth is multi dimensional and it’s impossible not to root for them.
Thank you NetGalley and Dutton for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.
4.25 stars.
I enjoyed this book a lot more than I was expecting too! The book literally starts with the two main characters breaking up and fighting with each other so I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to root for them. Throughout the book, however, you get to know more about them and their relationship. The chemistry between these two was FANTASTIC. The sneaking around, the pining, it was fantastic. These characters were always looking out for each other even when they were fighting. No matter how hard they tried they just couldn't resist their connection.
The stories with both of their families were also really interesting and helped move their relationship along in a really interesting way. They way they were able to support each other through dealing with these issues was really heartwarming and showed how much they cared about each other
Read this book if you like:
-forced proximity
-reality show competitions (specifically like Big Brother and Too Hot to Handle)
-Second chance (??)
-forbidden romance
This book was funny, sweet, and just a little bit spicy. Definitely check it out if you're looking for something fun to read when this book comes out this summer.
Thank you to NetGalley and Dutton for the ARC!
This was so freaking good! I loved the banter, the romance and it all just added to the chemistry they had
I laughed out loud so many times reading this! The absolute perfect RomCom! Also, it was fun to see a sort of behind the scenes look into how my favorite kind of shows are made, and what’s it’s like being a contestant. Olivia and Chuck are electric!
A story about the electric relationship between a famous actor and reporter with an interesting history. Chuck and Olivia’s breakup became in the spotlight which led to a game-show esque tv show. Will they win the big money? Only if they can contain their electric chemistry and not each other for a month.
Tropes: forced proximity, movie star/common romance, enemies-to-lovers, cracked door romance.
Spice: 🔥 not suitable for teens.
Tension: 🦋🦋
I wanted to love this story so much, the premise of the book is awesome but in my opinion, I felt that the delivery was mediocre. It started strong, the middle was nothing to write home about but, the ending was where it was at.
I wish the show was live so that the audience could watch as it was happening.
The two main characters were great, and their backstories were strong.
Thank you Netgalley and Dutton Books for allowing me the opportunity to read this book.
i really loved the premise of this book and thought the execution was great! it follows chuck, a b-list celebrity and olivia, a writer caught in the tabloids for a scandal her now descended parents had years ago. after a public fight and breakup, the show name your price seeks the exes out for a month-long challenge to live in a house together.
this one was addicting! i loved the too hot to handle vibes of this one and challenges that the couple had to face along the way. the forced proximity made the story super funny and interesting, i read it simply in one sitting. i really loved the characters - they were easy to like and follow throughout the story. definitely recommend if you’re looking for an easy and fun beach read when it comes out this summer!
the two things i were struggling with were:
(1) unrealistic short timeline, most of the book takes place only through a few weeks.
(2) i also felt like the big reveal could’ve been a bit ~bigger.~ it seemed a bit rushed and also wasn’t super climactic based on the way it was written into the story. it was also previously revealed in a way, so i wanted a little more to it.
all in all, i would recommend this to a romance reader who wants a fun and bantery book this summer! thank you again and i can’t wait to check out more books by this author!
5 STARS! This book surprised me more than I ever expected. The book follows two recent ex-lovers (they break up right at the start of the book and the plot follows the next few weeks after it) as they navigate what went wrong in their relationship while appearing on a reality TV show, living together, and having cameras and producers following their every move! This was the perfect rom-com that made me laugh out loud, but it also discussed relationship habits in a very real way. Both main characters have a volatile way of handling their relationship that they talk through during their time living together.
This was my first book by Holly James but it most certainly will not be my last!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange of an honest review.
This was overall not my favorite I’ve ever read, but that’s not to say I didn’t enjoy it! I think a lot of my issues with the book were the lack of depth in every aspect. The plot was fairly cheap and predictable, while the characters were very surface level and not very interesting, This sounds negative, but i had a good time reading it. I think it could have been better with some extra layers structured into the plot and motivations overall.
