This author’s books all focus on bringing a group of strangers or misfits together and creating a found family. While I enjoyed the quirky characters uniting for a common goal, it all felt a little over the top to me. Read if you’re in the mood for septuagenarian hi-jinx with a happy ending.

Lydia hasn’t had a job in 20 years when she gets employed by the Community Council to run the new senior social club. How hard can it be to entertain elder citizens with bingo, puzzles and story-telling she thinks. But then, on their first meeting, one of the senior dies, and shortly after, the Community Center seems doomed to be closed. Enter Daphne, 70, who is determined to find purpose - and maybe a lover - in her life.
At the Community Center, her path crosses with Lydia, Art, William, Ruby, Anna and Ziggy, all of whom are not too happy with their current lives and are looking for a spark of luck. Determined to save the Community Center, they combine forces with the center’s Childrens Day Care and try to convince the Council that the center is an important part of the community and needs to stay open.
This book is hilarious! I laughed out loud all the time. Each of the characters is quirky, unique and lovable in different ways. My favorite was Daphne, the grumpy little old lady with the good heart - a fearless leader.
The story is told from multiple POV’s and so we learn about everyone’s feelings and personal problems. A group of people who could not be more different. Can they save the Community Center and each other in the end? This is a story of loneliness, failure, struggle but, above all, friendship.
I would like to thank the author, the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this novel. It’s been a real pleasure. Bravo!

Funny, heartwarming, middle aged, elderly and young. This book really has it all, hope, despair, murder (maybe), thievery, child stars, dogs and affairs. Wonderful stuff, a great read which will liven up anyone’s book pile!
If you have read any of Clare Pooley’s other books this won’t disappoint and if you haven’t this is a good one to start with.

This is a 5 ⭐️ book ❤️❤️❤️
I absolutely loved this. The characters were so great and there was a touch of everything for everyone- romances, revenge, life lessons, a few mysteries, and great friendships. I work with the Geriatric Population so this was so relatable and fun- reminds me why I love working with elderly patients (especially sassy ones like Daphne).
This is a must read for a fun and light hearted mood this summer…Find it on June 11th (which happens to my birthday 🤷🏼‍♀️ and will continue to age #dis-grace-fully)

Thank you @netgalley for the advanced copy and @clare_pooley

Many thanks to NetGalley and the Publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Clare Pooley has done it again!!! I absolutely adored this book and it is every bit as good as her last book, Iona Iverson's Rules for Commuting! Cute, charming, unique, witty, heart warming, great characters and truly, zero flaws. Without question, the best book I've read this year! Put it on your list!!!

This was a delight. Pooley creates a cast of eccentric, flawed but lovable characters like no other. I was so invested in their unique stories from the start of the prologue to the last line.

What a fun read! I loved the world building and the warmth under all the humor, as well as how deeply attached I got to both Ruby and Lydia. There’s something so refreshing about the storyline, how it’s from a perspective I never get to read! Clare Pooley really managed to get so much heart, humor and fantastic plot all in one!

Another great book by Claire Pooley! I love the way she seamlessly ties so many odd characters together in the most heartwarming way. Thanks NetGalley for an early copy of this book!!

This was an entertaining and truly hilarious story. I don’t usually laugh out loud while reading but this one was able to make me laugh every few pages. I loved the members of the social club. Each character was very different and brought a different type of humor to the story but they had issues they were dealing with outside of the club that was interesting to watch play out. This story went in directions I wasn’t expecting when it came to the situations the characters were dealing with on their own. It also touched on the power of friendship and learning to get out of your own way to allow others to help you. Also it touched on being able to open up to people and allow yourself to trust new people in your life. This book was such a delight and I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. I would highly recommend!

"How to Age Disgracefully" by Clare Pooley is a delightful and humorous novel that had me hooked from the start. The story centers around a senior citizens' social club with a cast of quirky characters, including a kleptomaniac ex-actor, a mysterious woman with a dark past, and a rebellious knitter. When the community center is threatened with closure, they join forces with a daycare next door to save it, leading to hilarious and heartwarming moments.

The plot is engaging, and the characters are wonderfully eccentric and lovable. This book is a fun read that leaves you wanting more. If you're looking for a feel-good story with lots of laughs, this is the perfect choice!

As Daphne celebrates her 70th birthday, she finds herself reflecting on her quiet past filled with secrets, wondering if it's time to step out of her comfort zone and embrace a more sociable life. Despite her checkered history, she decides to break out of her shell by joining a Senior Citizens Social Club and even delving into the world of Internet dating.

Daphne's prickly personality makes her interactions, especially with fellow senior Art, full of entertaining and witty exchanges. While she may not be the easiest person to befriend, her complex character adds a layer of depth that steals the spotlight.

Within the narrative, the author introduces a diverse array of characters, each with their own compelling stories, ranging from comical to sinister. Together, they unite in a common goal to preserve their beloved community center from closure, leading to a mix of laughs, heartfelt moments, and unexpected twists. If you're in search of a lively and emotionally engaging read, this book offers a perfect blend of humor and drama.

A big thank you to Netgalley and the Publisher for providing an advance copy for review!

A cleverly constructed, lighthearted comedy with an eccentric cast of characters. It was fun reading about their creative plans and efforts to save their community center building that serviced so many in the neighborhood: seniors, a daycare program, AA meetings and more. The star of it all is the dog!

This is hands down one of the most feel good books that I have read in a very long time. I am not going to lie, at first I was not entirely sure what I had gotten myself into. A middle aged woman enduring a loveless marriage while rentering the workforce. Senior Citizens trying to save their Center and the attached daycare. A high school senior/single father, trying to find success through so many obstacles.

Any doubts that I had were erased after the first chapter. I fell in love with the characters and Clare’s writing instantaneously.

When I tell you this book was funny, I mean genuinely laugh out loud funny. These are no ordinary characters, and their backstories and personalities were relatable, lovable, and just plain great. This story has it all, and the character development was just incredible (for literally all of the characters, I cheered for them all.)

Thank you so much @netgalley and @clare_pooley for the chance to read this one early! I highly reccomend adding this one to your list in anticipation of its release on 6/11/24!

It was pretty obvious from the first page that this book was something special, but I didn't expect to spend almost every page with a smile on my face. A cozy story about finding your people and creating the right community for you, this is a book I think I'll be picking up every time I start to feel down. Loved it!

Thank you to the publisher for providing a review copy

I looooove a good book with a rag tag crew! How to Age Disgracefully is the perfect story about aging, and how no matter how old you are, you should never let that fiery spark in you die down. Filled with such special and funny characters, it truly warmed my heart.

Newly 70 Daphne has finally decided she's bored enough with her mundane life to once more live a little. Being a woman of a certain age does have it's perks though. Like being old enough that people in general will ignore you and that will allow you to keep any secret you might need. A life of careful seclusion has really gotten Daphne though and she's ready to rejoin society. She joins a local seniors social club and just when she thought it might be too boring for her a freak accident in the community center changes her mind. The accident leaves the already old and broken down community center with a substational amount of damage that the board of directors is willing to sell off the building and land and call it a loss. Enter Daphne, the motley crew of the senior social club, a teenage father, and an elderly dog who aren't willing to let go of their community center quite so easily.

I'm a big Clare Pooley fan and Daphne might easily being one of my favorites of her protagnists. I loved Iona in her last book, but it's Daphne's mixture of intrigue, style, and overall empathy that make her so compelling. She's also incredibly funny. I enjoyed this one from beginning to end.

How delightful! if you loved Iona Iverson, then you’ll love Daphne, the main character in another cast of misfits that join together to save a community center. The multiple perspectives and short chapters keep you reading. Each character is just as lovable and endearing as the next. There’s also infidelity, drugs, online dating, theft, and a dog! What’s not to like?

Huge thanks to Netgalley and Penguin Group Viking for the ARC.
