I’ve literally been dying for this book since I got the arc for Hunt on Dark Waters!

Lizzie only wants to get her family jewels back, but her plans change when she meets Maeve, a selkie who has her skin stolen from her. They agree to team up together and help each other get what they want and if they happen to hook up along the way.. so be it 😈 If anyone can handle Lizzie it’s Maeve.

Tropes:

Another fantastic masterpiece from Katee Robert. She truly is the OG smut queen. I absolutely loved EVERYTHING about this.

(This was more of a 3.5 star read)
I really like the way the Katee Robert writes fantasy, since the world gets built as you go and not at the very beginning with front-loading. It's something I really appreciate because it hooks me right away. I love seeing a sapphic fantasy romance -- it's kind of rare for the genre -- and I love the myth-bending that Katee will always pull off.

Second one of the series, but could totally be read as a standalone! This was good, well paced, spicy right where it should be and a lovely love story. Very entertaining to read and fun to follow along the characters in their adventures.

I’ll admit, I wasn’t a huge fan of Lizzie in Hunt on Dark Waters, but she really grew on me in her own story. It’s easy to villainize a character when viewing them through the lens of someone they wronged. But getting inside Lizzie’s head really gave me the opportunity to empathize with her—which I know is the last thing she would want. She’s a lethal killer who has one mission: recover her family heirlooms and go home. But then she meets Maeve, and everything changes.

Maeve is a new character and I adored her. A selkie who is for all intents and purposes fairly sheltered—until a pirate steals her skin and she sets off on an adventure to get it back, enlisting Lizzie’s help to do so. While she may appear soft and meek on the surface, once she gets her skin back, she is such a badass. And I loved the way she was willing to open herself to a physical relationship—and more—again despite how badly her previous partner betrayed her. She really softened Lizzie, too, which was refreshing.

I also loved the introduction of Siobhan and the progression of the rebellion movement. I can’t wait to see what happens in book three!

I love when Katee Robert writes sapphic romance. Lizzie and Maeve had such wonderful passion and a love you could tally feel through the page. I'd been waiting on Lizzie's story for so long and this was well worth the wait!

I enjoyed Blood on the Tide and I was a little surprised that I did. I didn't totally love the first book in the series, but BOTT checked more boxes for me. The connection between the two main characters was developed really nicely and felt genuine. It felt like I watched them fall for one another and go through things together versus instalove. I really enjoy the way Robert takes folklore and mythology and puts her spin on it--BOTT is no exception to the Robert magic.

Overall, this gets a 4/5 from me. There was some repetitiveness to the writing that irked me slightly (frequent mention of crusted salt and taking your time in bed with some iteration of those phrases being repeated), but this was a really good second book in the series! Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this title. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This was your typical Katee Robert novel. You either love it or hate it and I wasn’t too much of a fan of this one, unfortunately.

This book blew me away! I was hesitant on it after book one in the series, but diving into Blood on the Tide, I fell in love with Katee's story telling again and Maeve and Lizzie. This book transported me back into the world and into a romance and story that just felt so real and so perfectly written on Katee's part!

The spice, as always, was impeccable and literally jaw dropping in moments I could not put this book down because I desperately needed to get to the end of it, and I wasn't disappointed. This book was perfection and truly so much fun to read!

Katee and pirates and sirens and vampires? What more could a gal want!

Thank you NetGalley, Edelweiss+ and PRH for this ARC. Once I finished Hunt on Dark Waters, I knew I needed to know what happened next. Thankfully it wasn’t long before I was able to get my hands on this ARC. This book picks up right where the first ended. Lizzie is still on the hunt for her jewels. With a few detours, the ship, Audacity, and its crew set sail to save a Selkie named Maeve. Once saved, Maeve and Lizzie team up to find each of their stolen items.
Katee Roberts spice writing is, as always, perfect. The book has everything you could want in a spicy pirate romance novel. You do need to read Hunt on Dark Waters to be able to enjoy this book, as this is not a series of novels like most of the rest of her series.
The only thing I will say is I feel like these books read a little short (even though they are 300 pages -roughly), and while I do wish I had a better way of explaining that I cannot really put it into words so thus I am giving it a 4/5 stars...

Hunt on Dark Waters was so much fun so I was very excited for this and it delivered. I love how unique the characters are and the storyline. So much fantasy has very similar characters and tropes so this series has been great and unique. Also Katee Robert’s spice is top tier if you’re looking for something more adult. Would for sure recommend this and really any of her book!

I acquired a physical copy of book 1 and plan to come back to this one after reading it.

Thank you to NetGalley and Berkley for the ARC.

Fun read in an interesting world full of magical creatures and pirates, with a structure that draws just enough from mythology to be accessible while creating a world that’s fantastical enough to be intriguing. Compelling story line of tyranny and rebellion, has me wanting to know how it all turns out! Will definitely read the third book to find out.

Robert never disappoints. From the moment I heard about it, I knew I had to read it. And now, having finished it, I can say with full certainty that THIS IS ALREADY GOING TO BE ON TOP OF THE BEST BOOKS I HAVE READ THIS YEAR. So loved and enjoyed it.

Thank you to NetGalley, Katee Robert and Berkley Publishing/Berkley Romance for a digital ARC of Blood on the Tide in exchange for an honest review.

I ravished Hunt on Dark Waters last year and am so excited I didn't have to wait long for the next installment.

As suspected, this story follows Lizzie, a bloodline vampire, as the MC in her quest to retrieve her family heirlooms from the Cŵn Annwn, a cutthroat group of pirates who will fight like hell to keep what they consider is theirs. Along her journey, a selkie whose skin has been stolen is rescued by their ship (Maeve) and Lizzie forms a bond with Maeve and is hoping in helping retrieve her stolen skin, that Maeve's selkie powers will also help Lizze retrieve her heirlooms from the Cŵn Annwn so she can finally go home.

Anyone who has ever read Katee Robert knows that this story is going to get down & dirty. Lots of fighting & lots of sexual activities! That's what we sign up for! As always, Katee Robert delivers a scrumpscious erotic fantasy. If you can read a Katee Robert novel and not get hot & bothered, YOU did something wrong! LOL

I will 100% be promoting this title on my IG closer to release and also re-promoting Hunt on Dark Waters for those who may have missed it the first time around.

The second in the Crimson Sails series picks up right after book 1. Lizzie is still aboard the Audacity and trying to make herself useful until she can hunt down the jewels stolen from her. Enter the adorable and feisty Selkie, Maeve. She is also seeking something stolen from her and a team up with Lizzie is quickly established. From there adventure and spice ensue!
I am very in love with this series! The characters are so diverse and the world building is incredibly rich. I'm so excited to see where the series is going to go, with book one and two finished, it feels like the stage is getting set for some really awesome action.
Maeve and Lizzie are a really sweet couple and I am a HUGE fan of the grumpy/sunshine pairing. Their growing relationship feels so real and their issues are relatable. Also, Katee's spice is on point and hot as expected. This is everything I wanted in a pirate romantasy novel. So good!

This was great, exactly what I hoped it would be and then some. I loved Lizzie and Maeve both individually and together, and the morality chain aspect of this romance was SO good. I'd definitely rank this higher than Hunt on Dark Waters.
