I really enjoyed this one! If you want something giving a Pirates of the Caribbean vibe then this one is definitely for you! This is a sapphic romance fantasy and it follows Lizzie the vampire and Maeve a selkie who has gotten herself into some trouble. This was such a fun read and it was interesting to see Lizzie especially with her grumpy cold killer personality deal with love and a new relationship. I would almost say this might be a grumpy sunshine romance but I think it’s just cause anyone feels like sunshine compared to Lizzie haha. 😉 Katee Robert really knows how to write romance and this is a great sequel to Hunt on Dark Waters. Would definitely recommend. 🫶❤️
I was so excited to get my hands on this sequel and I was not disappointed. I really enjoyed reading Lizzie’s story.
I surprisingly think thaybi liked this book so much more then book 1
Don't get me wrong, Hunt on Dark Waters was good too. I definitely had a few times I thought it was roo fast paced and was just missing somw littlesomething at times. And was really disappointed when I realized book 2 would be about different characters. But I was so wrong to be disappointed.
I really enjoyed this onw though. I think things that I struggled with in book one wete done better in this story. And some loose ends kinda wrapped themselves up in ways.
Definitely give this one a chance if ypu wrtenon the fence after HODW.
Plus the characters.... perfection! Haha
Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with an ARC of this story.
SPOILERS TO FOLLOW
HAPPY BOOK BIRTHDAY KATEE
I think it's safe to say that I'll read anything and everything by Katee Robert. I love her stories so much. (which isn't to say that I will always love ALL of her stories but there's a big majority so far that I've enjoyed. Every now and then I read something by her though that I'm like... Oh this isn't what I thought it'd be). The reason I like this story more than the first one is because it has a F/F relationship and not a M/F relationship. DONT GET ME WRONG. Bowen and Evelyn in the first book were great but I just wasn't feeling them or the plot. Bown sounds great and I like Evelyn's magic and her tenacity but Lizzie is just so much more fun!! I really enjoy how murderous she is and how sweet she is to Maeve. I think they make an incredible couple and even though I was skeptical at first (after reading the first book and learning the second one was about Lizzie) I'm glad I decided to read this one and go to Katee's event at the Ripped Bodice!! It was delightful to meet her and I'm REALLY looking forward to the next title in the series. It's going to be called Rebel In the Deep (according to the end of this book) and Katee at the even said it's going to be a relationship between a non-binary sea captain (IT'S GOTTA BE NOX!!!), a himbo, and a noble lady. So she's leaning HEAVILY into the Pirates of the Caribbean vibes here and I love it!!!
If Katee Robert wasn’t already an auto buy author for me…the dedication for this book would’ve sealed that fate immediately. I absolutely fell head over heels into the world of the Threshold in Hunt on Dark Waters and was thrilled to be selected for an ARC of the second book of the series. 🥰
Blood on the Water- Katee Robert
The second book in this addicting series follows Lizzie, Evelyn’s bloodline vampire ex girlfriend on her quest to find her family jewels that were stolen. We pick up right where we left off on board the Audacity ⚓️. Except now they are making a pit stop to rescue a friend of the rebellion, a selkie named Maeve, who’s lost her pelt. 🦭
Lizzie is immediately drawn to Maeve like a moth to a flame and Maeve is equally as curious about the blood thirsty, murderous, beautiful vampire who comes to her rescue. When the two decide to band together, tensions run high and emotions run deep. This book was the epitome of grumpy x sunshine in another dimension with shifters, creatures, vampires and monsters alike. 🧛🏻♀️
These two were poetry in motion. I absolutely loved watching each of them open up for the other and in turn learn more about themselves. The complete devotion and fierceness in which Lizzie defends, protects, and ultimately loves Maeve is mesmerizing. The conflicts that the two faced together ultimately strengthened them in a way neither was looking for or expected, but it was beautiful all the same.
A little part of me knew we’d be ending on a slight cliffhanger WHICH IS THE WORST. But there was a good amount of closure and HEA involved that it only made me more excited for the next book and getting to delve back into all these characters all over again.
Thank you again Katee Robert + Netgalley for the ARC!! 💓
Katee Robert does it again. I can't wait to add this title to my Katee Shelf! I loved loved loved getting to explore Lizzie more in Blood on the Tide! It was so fun to see this side of her fall in love with Maeve after seeing Lizzie in Hunt on Dark Waters and Court of the Vampire Queen.
I liked this one better than the Hunt on Dark Waters. The romance was hot and the plot was a little more exciting. At this point I am reading the series to see what happens with the rebellion.
I was really surprised when I started reading this that a minor character from Court of the Vampire Queen was one of the main focuses of this book. Lizzy, a bloodline vampire, joins up with Maeve, a selkie who has lost her skin, to hunt down the things they've lost: her skin and Lizzy's family heirlooms. In the midst of brewing rebellion. I absolutely love Lizzy. She's ruthless and bloody and completely unapogetic for it. She performs some very neat vampire "tricks." She reminds me a little bit of one of my favorite vampires: Elijah Michaleson from the Originals show.
She is brilliantly flawed and some murderously endearing. Maeve seems soft, but she has a spine of steel.
I don't think I've ever read a book about selkies before. It's just not a legend or tale that most authors tackle. And it made this one riveting. The romance is so hot it practically sizzles off the page. Katee Roberts doesn't leave anything out. I can't wait to find out more about Threshold and where the story is going to next. I have a feeling it's going to be explosive. I was honored for this to be my first Berkley arc.
4 Stars A sapphic romance between a cold-hearted vampire and a sweet selkie that's written by Katee Robert? Say no more. I'm in.
Bloodline vampire Lizzie needs to reclaim family heirlooms that were stolen from her and find a portal home, but those helping her have bigger things to worry about. They rescue selkie Maeve from captivity and it seems like the perfect solution to Lizzie's problems. Maeve needs someone to help her get her selkie skin back, so Lizzie partners with her to get through the Threshold. Maeve knows better than to team up with the dangerous vampire who has an alluring bite; it will just end in heartbreak. The danger facing both Maeve and Lizzie is ramping up, and their strength may not be enough to save them.
I didn't read the first book in the Crimson Sails series, but I don't think it was entirely necessary; I felt like I knew enough of what was going on to follow the plot. And what a plot it was! I was surprised that the spice was pretty minimal (at least for a Katee Robert book), but the orgasmic vampire bite was 🔥 I also loved the morally gray heroine and both FMCs were complete badasses, though I wouldn't expect anything less because Katee Robert knows how to write fierce women.
Thank you NetGalley and Berkley Publishing for the ARC in exchange for my honest review!
📣 an adventurous vampire / selkie romance with a hunt for a missing pelt
Thanks to the publisher & Netgalley for the complimentary ARC. All opinions provided are my own.
📖 what’s one of your Monday numbers? Mine are: 2 books I’m currently reading (The Ornithologist’s Field Guide to Love & Crescent City); 1 jog I got in this morning, 1 field day at school today.
Katee Robert’s Threshold books have blasted into my life like dynamos of fun & steam & adventure.
Blood on The Tide (out tomorrow) is another rollicking read, featuring murderous vampire Lizzie (she is ice cold), who’s only in Threshold to find her stolen family jewels, & selkie Maeve, who has the lost the thing most valuable to her: her pelt.
This is a case of leads forced to work together—luckily for us. Though there are emotional undertones & overtones in this book, for me, it was mainly here for a good time & I wasn’t complaining.
Read this one if you’re looking for a murderer with morals, pleasure-inducing vampire bites, & a comfort moment.
It’s a lot of fun.
4.25 ⭐️. Out tomorrow.

This is the second book in the Crimson Sails series and could probably be read as a standalone, but I would recommend reading Hunt On The Water first to get more of the overall backstory.
Blood On The Tide follows Lizzie as she continues her quest on locating her lost jewels and recently saved Maeve who is searching for her stolen pelt.
I personally love Katee Robert’s writing style, I find it very descriptive, captivating and she sure knows how to write some spice🥵. I really enjoyed Lizzie and Maeve’s story and I cannot wait to see what happens in the third book!
Thank you NetGalley and Berkley Pub for an eARC in exchange for an honest review!
thank you to katee and net galley for this arc !! i knew the second i saw the cover to this book, i would be hooked- considering katee robert is the queen of stories that are excitingly dark and euphoric !!
this story between maeve and lizzie was one i so appreciated, as i am currently still navigating my own sexuality as a woman for other women. this sapphic story alone is great queer representation in mainstream romance, as a helpful way of exploring the many thoughts and feelings we all have regarding sexuality.
maeve and lizzie are also fantastic representations of how women can be fierce and for the people in their lives that they love, and yet still soft and sweet in intimate settings. the duality of a woman is laced so wonderfully throughout this story, i loved it!
enjoyed this hot and sexy, adventurous, sapphic story from katee!
3.5 rounded up to 4
I didn’t enjoy this book as much as the first installment, Hunt on Dark Waters. I felt that the two FMC’s were both incredibly whiny and unlikeable at times. It was also incredibly tame for a Katee Robert book. That being said, it’s a nice, easy read, and a solid follow up to the first book in the series. The main relationship is FF and there were some really sweet moments between them. I think I would have enjoyed more spice.
I’m a huge fan of Katee Robert’s books! This series isn’t my favorite of their though. I liked Blood on the Tide more than Hunt on Dark Waters though. I guess that this world and storyline just isn’t my vibe. Still a solid book and I think people will enjoy it.
Who doesn't love Katee Robert?
Want steamy? Katee.
Want adventure? Katee.
Want deviously bad@ss characters? Katee.
Want fast paced romantasy? Katee.
She never fails. This book was no different in exceeding my expectations. It was just the right amount of adventure, spice, and loveable characters that we all need.
In this FF romantasy, a beautiful dominant vampire needs to find something she's lost, and needs the help of a somewhat mousey selkie who's also lost something that she's hoping to find. The two get lost in their adventures of attempting to find these personal items that mean so much to them and end up finding more than their missing items, but finding themselves and each other.
The characters all fit their roles beautifully and were likeable. The storyline so well executed. Katee is a pro. I cannot wait to see what else she comes up with.
Will 100000% be recommending this!
Jump on board of the second fantasy romance in Robert’s Crimson Sails series. Lizzie, a fierce bloodline vampire, is on a quest to retrieve stolen family heirlooms and find a way back home. Her path takes a twist when she rescues Maeve, a selkie whose skin has been taken from her. Together, they form an uneasy but electric alliance—Lizzie needs a guide through the perilous Threshold, and Maeve needs help reclaiming her stolen skin.
As they navigate their mutual needs, Maeve finds herself both terrified and drawn to Lizzie’s deadly charm and seductive bite. But their journey is fraught with danger, as they are chasing a ship owned by the Cŵn Annwn, a fierce group that fiercely punishes thieves. With danger looming, the stakes are high, and Lizzie’s ferocity and Maeve’s selkie strength might not be enough to escape the wrath of the Cŵn Annwn.
Pirates, selkies and vampires—really, what more could you want from a story?
Lizzie was a really intriguing character—fans of Robert’s other books and who have read the first book in this series (though it isn’t a must to understand Blood on the Tide!) will know that Lizzie wasn’t the most likeable character before. Now, though, we get a glimpse of what has driven Lizzie to become the “ice queen” who often seems heart—and ruthless. She’s by no means perfect and has flaws just like everyone else but it is endearing seeing how she reacts to mistakes she makes and wants to do better. I’m a sucker for chaotic characters who are morally grey so Lizzie’s bloodlust also made me grin quite a few times.
Maeve, meanwhile, proved to be just as much of a powerhouse as Lizzie is. While she’s less fleshed out than Lizzie, her character compels with her ambition to regain her stolen skin and her instantaneous attraction to Lizzie that makes their chemistry feel real from the beginning.
Speaking of their chemistry, fans of the grumpy meets sunshine trope will love Lizzie and Maeve’s romance. Unlike the first book in the series where we followed Evelyn and Bowen, this time around we really hone in on the two main characters, mostly forgoing scenes with a big cast of characters and instead focusing on how Maeve and Lizzie balance each other out with their quick wit and their ability to hold their own even when sharp words pass between them. Sure, this doesn’t leave the characters interacting a lot with others, but it does give the reader a lot more opportunities to get to know Lizzie and Maeve and what makes both of these badass women tick. While the spicy scenes aren’t as steamy as you’re probably used to from Robert, the love felt all the more real for it. Both Lizzie and Maeve aren’t looking for love or a relationship (they have their own issues to deal with when it comes to love) and while they are quite stubborn, they both can’t help but fall for the other. I especially enjoyed how Maeve was so into Lizzie whenever Lizzie basically offered to destroy anyone who’d even think of harming a hair on Maeve’s body. The “I would kill for you” vibes sometimes read quite cringey in books but here they fit perfectly.
Beyond the romance plot, this book also focuses a lot more on worldbuilding than the previous instalment did. The world is expanded on and shared in more detail as the stakes rise, which not only drives the plot forward in a fast-pace (and thus makes for a very quick read) but also adds much-needed action sequences that drive Maeve and Lizzie closer together.
All in all, Blood on the Tide proved to be a fun blend of action and romance and is sure to be a hit with lovers of paranormal romance.
Looking for an adventurous sapphic romance with pirates, vampires and selkies? Katee Robert delivers all that and more in Blood on the Tide, sprinkled with a dash of grumpy meets sunshine vibes and morally grey characters you can’t help but love.
I mean, it's Katee Robert and sapphic pirates/selkies/vampires, I'm not NOT going to like it. I still don't really get how the world works but whatever.
Recently had a dream come true and was approved for an eARC written by one of my favorite authors - Katee Robert!
Blood on the Tide is the second installment in the Crimson Sails series. We meet Maeve, a Selkie who lost her pelt, and follow her adventure with everyone’s favorite athleisure wearing vampire, Lizzie, to retrieve both her pelt and Lizzie’s family heirlooms. The perfect set up for anyone who loves FxF romance, paranormal romance, forced proximity, and grumpy x sunshine!
I thought this book was so fun! I enjoyed it even more than Hunt on Dark Waters. I loved how we got to explore more of the magic of Threshold both through the eyes of a native (Maeve) and an unwilling visitor (Lizzie). It’s such a fantastical world, and I’m excited to see what else it holds as this series continues.
Also, for anyone who is a fan of Court of the Vampire Queen, you’ll love the little life updates Lizzie drops about Mina & the boys.
This book releases next week - make sure you check it out! Thank you again to Berkley Publishing Group & NetGalley for the free eARC!

🧜♀️💖 Blood on the Tide ARC Review 💖🧜♀️
Thank you so much to Katee Robert and Berkley Romance for the opportunity to read and review this book!
Blood on the Tide is a sapphic fantasy romance and book two in the Crimson Sails series. All Lizzie wants is to find her family’s stolen jewels and to portal back home. As a bloodline vampire, her family has lofty expectations for her future. But when a selkie named Maeve is rescued from the sea, she sees an opportunity to recover her family’s heirlooms and maybe have some fun in the meantime
This was a fun read! We met Lizzie in the first book of this series, Hunt on Dark Waters and I really enjoyed learning more about her. Maeve was a wonderful match for her and I enjoyed their relationship overall. This was a fast burn and a little “insta love” but overall I enjoyed it. The story continued to expand from the first book and I’m excited to see where it goes in the future.
This was a solid four star read. I enjoyed these characters and really like this world. This book does have some darker elements, so please check triggers if you’re sensitive. This book did have spice throughout, so overall three flames for spice
If you’re a fan of sapphic fantasy romance with fun characters, enjoyable world building and low angst romance, then absolutely luck this up! While it can technically be read as a standalone, I definitely recommend reading Hunt on Dark Waters first to get the most out of the story.
