This collection includes 3 novellas all with a plot around deadly milkshakes. The plots are all independent of each other. The stories include, in order: Irish Milkshake Murder by Carlene O'Connor, Murder Most Irish by Peggy Ehrhart, and Mrs. Claus and the Luckless Leprechaun by Liz Ireland.
The first 2 stories were alright. I listened all the way through, but they were pretty forgettable. I didn't finish the third. It was too cutesy for me to get into it. Overall I don't think short stories are for me. 2.5 stars rounded up to 3.
The narration was good.
Thank you to #NetGalley and #TantorAudio for a free copy of #IrishMilkshakeMurder by Carlene O’Connor; Peggy Ehrhart; Liz Ireland. All opinions are my own.
Irish Milkshake Murder is a fun collection of 3 St. Patrick’s day mysteries. They all revolved around potentially poisoned milkshakes, yet were each drastically different from each other and are written by different authors.
I really enjoyed these stories!! My favorite one was the first one, Irish Milkshake Murder, which the collection itself was named after. It takes place on a bachelorette party boat, when one of the hired Irish dancers collapses mid-dance after drinking a milkshake. It was funny, unpredictable, and was very much a “cozy mystery”.
The other 2 stories in this collection were fun as well.
Thank you NetGalley and Tantor Audio for providing me an ALC in exchange for my honest review.
I'm really growing to love these cozy mystery novella collections that Kensington has been publishing. I read some of the series regularly, and some are new to me, but it's easy to follow along with the stories and characters regardless. This one was no exception. With each story centered around a green, St. Patrick's Day milkshake, there was a fun common thread. The first story is almost a locked-room style mystery, taking place on a ferry; the second was a diner poisoning involving sheep; and the third was another Mrs. Claus solving crime installment. I'm a huge fan of Liz Ireland's Mrs. Claus series, so I knew that story would be a winner, but I also adored the first closed universe short story.
I listened to these on audio and thought the narrator did a wonderful job, especially given the Irish accents in the first one and elfin voices in the last.
Thanks to Kensington for my ARC and Tantor Audio for my ALC! All thoughts and opinions are my own.
5 stars - 9/10
This is a delightful collection of 3 stories from different cozy mystery authors all surrounding the "Irish Milkshake" theme. It was a lot of fun! The narration was fabulous on the audiobook. I really liked the opportunity to try out the writing styles of different authors and these stories were long enough to get a great feel for their work. I will absolutely add each to my "to be read" list. Peggy Ehrhart’s Murder Most Irish was my favorite of the three stories. Her descriptions were so vivid that they made me wish I had neighbors, friends, and a knitting group like the one in the book! If you like cozy mysteries, you won't be disappointed.
Irish Milkshake Murder
Irish Milkshake Murder
Carlene O’Connor
Tara Meehan did not want a bachelorette party but her best friend Breanna Cunningham, insisted and she planned the party despite Tara’s wishes. Not only has Breanna planned a party she has invited Rachel, a woman that Tara hasn’t had any contact with for years.
Tara Meehan and Danny O’Donnell head to the Aran Islands with their bridal party for a “hen and stag” party (a bachelor and bachelorette party.) The wedding is set for St. Patrick’s Day. The bridal party begins with a trip to Inis Mor by ferry. As with most bachelor and bachelorette parties the participants enjoy a bit of drinking. The drink of the day is an Irish Milkshake with more than a little booze. The entertainment was a pair of famous dancing twin brothers, Irish of course. One of the Irish Milkshakes is spiked with more than booze and murder is the result.
This was an interesting read. It was funny and well done.
Murder Most Irish
Peggy Ehrhart
The setting is Arborville, New Jersey at Hyler’s Luncheonette. The owners and patrons are getting into the Irish spirit. The menu has been updated to fit the holiday. They have a new milkshake “The Leprechaun”. The patrons love the new brew until one of the patrons falls over dead. The victim is well liked and there seems no reason for the murder. Bettina Fraser and Pamela Paterson are on the case and determined to find the murderer.
This murder mystery was just ok. If I was rating it on its own, I would give it a 3.
Mrs. Claus and the Luckless Leprechaun
Liz Ireland
Finally, it’s almost springtime in Santaland, a time when the elves can relax and have a little fun. Claire creates a delicious minty green flavored milkshake to serve in her ice cream shop. They are celebrating St. Patrick’s Day by playing Iceball and drinking minty milkshake. Crumble has been injured; he plays on the Twinkler’s team. Poor Crumble was found injured lying on the ice with a milkshake close by. Could someone be trying to stop the Twinkler’s from winning.
This is a very short story, cute and a little silly.
Thank you NetGalley for a copy of this book for review. My reviews are my unbiased opinions.
Thank you Tantor Audio and NetGalley for ALC.
This book consists of three stories written by three different authors where in the center of the mystery is an Irish milkshake. It was interesting to see how each author put their own twist and created a story. This collection would be perfect to get into St Patrick’s Day mood.
Callie Beaulieu did a wonderful job narrating these stories. Her voice was a great addition to cozy mysteries.
Maybe it is just that I don’t really enjoy cozies as much as I used to. Or maybe because these authors were never on my favorites list even when I liked cozies more and so I was not really familiar with the characters. Whatever the reason, I just couldn’t get interested in any of these novellas and had to DNF. Narrator was okay and I have listened to her before with no complaints.
Thanks to Tantor Audio, NetGalley, authors Carlene O’Connor, Peggy Ehrhart, Liz Ireland and narrator Callie Beaulieu for this delightful anthology of St. Paddy’s Day themed cozy mysteries. Each mystery has one key thing in common—Irish milkshakes. Carlene O’Connor’s Irish Milkshake Murder makes you question whether you ever want to drink another minty milkshake again. In Peggy Ehrhart’s Murder Most Irish, neighbors distrust one another after a frothy minty milkshake kills somebody. And finally, in Liz Ireland’s Mrs. Claus and the Luckless Leprechaun, when someone doctors the minty shakes Mrs. Claus and friends has to solve the case. Of the three stories I enjoyed this story probably the most just because of how the characters interact with each other. In all thought the book was a fun listen and enjoyable and it introduced me to a couple of cozy writers I hadn’t heard of before.
A fun set of listens . I originally chose this as I like the Knit and Nibble series by Peggy Ehrhart and loved this story too. I liked the theme as they all had a milkshake as part. I had not read/listened to anything by Liz Ireland before and plan to find others as I liked the story and the characters in Santa Land. The third story by Carlene O'Connor was as expected, not my taste, but still a good mystery. I liked seeing the characters piece out the mysteries. I would have liked a different narrator for each though as I felt like I was in the same story at times.
EXCERPT: (Taken from the title story, Irish Milkshake Murder)
Tara Meehan didn't want to disappoint her dear friend Breanna Cunningham, but if she had any doubts about going wild before her wedding, the plastic penis wand Breanna was waving in her face way too enthusiastically solidified her decision. No hen party for her.
ABOUT 'IRISH MILKSHAKE MURDER': IRISH MILKSHAKE MURDER by CARLENE O’CONNOR
In advance of their St. Patrick’s Day wedding, Tara Meehan and Danny O’Donnell are off to the Aran Islands with their bridesmaids and groomsmen for a joint hen and stag party. The weekend kicks off with the ferry trip to Inis Mór, as the passengers enjoy boozy milkshakes on board and entertainment from a pair of famous Irish-dancing twin brothers. But faster than Tara can say “Oh, Danny Boy,” a murder shamrocks the boat as someone’s spiked shake turns out to be their final round. Stuck in a rural island cottage, while a storm rages outside, Tara must find the Celtic killer before her luck runs out . . .
MURDER MOST IRISH by PEGGY EHRHART
St. Patrick’s Day is drawing near in Arborville, New Jersey and the folks at Hyler's Luncheonette are getting into the holiday spirit with a new, limited-time, Irish-themed menu item--a festive green milkshake appropriately named, “The Leprechaun.” It’s a hit, until a patron is felled by one of the frothy concoctions during a sheep parade through the town. Now, it’s up to Pamela Paterson and her Knit & Nibble knitting club pal, Bettina Fraser, to catch a murderer and put a stop to the sheer madness . . .
MRS. CLAUS AND THE LUCKLESS LEPRECHAUN by LIZ IRELAND
Spring in Santaland means two the elves have more leisure time and iceball season is in full swing! To celebrate, April Claus’s friend, Claire, whips up some minty milkshakes for her bustling ice cream shop, Santaland Scoop. But when the St. Paddy’s promotion makes one elf the target of a decidedly unlucky strike, Mrs. Claus and her friends must figure out if the attack was a failed hit job, a crime of passion, or an extremely unfortunate accident . . .
MY THOUGHTS: I enjoyed the first two of these St Patrick's Day themed novellas more than the third which was just a little too much on the silly side for me. Of them all, I liked Murder Most Irish the most. I hadn't read any of the Knit and Nibble series or indeed anything by Peggy Ehrhart previously but will now be watching for more by this author. ⭐⭐⭐.7
Carlene O'Connor has long been an author I read regularly, and I enjoyed Irish Milkshake Murder, although I thought it was pretty obvious who the murderer was. Also the relationship between Tara and Danny seemed decidedly odd - they didn't feel like a couple about to be married. ⭐⭐⭐.3
Mrs Claus and the Luckless Leprechaun just wasn't my cup of tea - t00 cheesy. I couldn't wait for it to be over. ⭐⭐
This novella collection is recommended for anyone who enjoys the more 'themed' cosy-mysteries.
Narrator Callie Beaulieu did a mostly admirable job of narrating these novellas.
Overall rating ⭐⭐⭐

DISCLOSURE: Thank you to Kensington Books (Kensington Cozies) and Tantor Audio via NetGalley for providing a both a digital and audio ARC of Irish Milkshake Murder by Carlene O'Connor, Peggy Ehrhart and Liz Ireland for review. All opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own personal opinions.
This is a cute cozy mystery. I loved the whole thing. It was a bit jarring to realize that they were 3 separate books with 3 separate authors and 3 entirely different plots and worlds. but if you think of them all as their own individual books they are all individually great!
I absolutely love these collections of short stories that are from a variety of different authors. I love how they pick an item or theme and weave it into their individual story lines while giving you a preview of what their series is like it is new to you or giving you a "snack" to tide you over until they release the next full book in the series to sate your appetite! In this case, I was thrilled to get a snack from Carlene O'Connor's Home to Ireland series. I absolutely adore the main character, Tara, and her sidekicks. In this case, quite a time hop has taken place and I'm thrilled to see how things have progressed in her personal life and that she once again finds herself having to solve a murder. The second story if from Peggy Ehrhart's Knit & Nibble series which is completely new to me and I must say that I am absolutely intrigued by the series. I have already looked up the series and printed off the list of titles there and am quite excited to find 10 books waiting for me to read as well as a handful of shorts like this one! The main characters are more in my age bracket so I am quite excited to see what the ladies get up to in the future. If this book is any indication then the characters are intelligent and the murders are intricately woven to be entertaining to the max! The third book is from Liz Ireland's Mrs Claus series which is absolutely a ball of fun! Mrs Claus lives in Santaland, where else right!?!, and it seems the elf in charge of solving crime is more interested in elf games and cake than actually solving crime so Mrs Claus is on the case! It was a hoot of fun to see our favorite Christmas characters in a story that isn't about Christmas and solving crime too boot! If you are looking for a bit of fun and entertainment, then I highly recommend this collection of stories as it will entertain while introducing you to new characters. The narration of the audiobook is outstanding as well. I was thrilled to hear that one of my favorite narrators was doing this book so of course had to take the listening option!
This is my first taste of these cozy Irish mysteries, and I have never read any of the authors previously, there are 3 novellas which revolve around the common ground of deadly milkshakes in 3 distinctly different stories. I listened to this on audio, approximately 11 hours long, delightfully, captivatingly and engagingly narrated by Callie Beaulieu, she held my attention with ease in this fun, humorous, and entertaining listen, which left me keen to read and or listen to future additions to this wonderful series!
Irish Milkshake Murder by Carlene O'Connor:
A reluctant Tara Meehan is persuaded by Breanna to have a hen party with her upcoming wedding to Danny O'Donnell on St Patrick's day, to which intriguingly Rachel has been invited. In advance of their St. Patrick's Day wedding. Tara and Danny set off on a joint hen and stag do, embarking on the ferry with storm clouds on the horizon, travelling to the Aran Islands. Chaos and mayhem unfolds with the celebrations as alcoholic milkshakes are imbibed, one of the milkshakes turns out to have been poisoned as murder has Tara investigating and looking for a killer.
Murder Most Irish by Peggy Ehrhart:
With St. Patrick's Day looming, there is delicious food and a bubbly new green concoction of a milkshake is going down well with people, that is until we have a murder in which Pamela Paterson and her Knit & Nibble knitting club reporter friend, Bettina Fraser, intend to catch the killer.
Mrs. Claus and the Luckless Leprechaun by Liz Ireland:
In Santaland, April Claus has married Nick, it is iceball season that can become quite heated, and in Santaland Scoop ice cream shop milkshakes are selling well. In this lovely story with reindeer, there is an attack which has April trying to work out what precisely happened.
I enjoyed all 3 murder mystery stories, although the atmospheric Irish Milkshake Murder was my own personal favourite. I can highly recommend the audio to readers. Many thanks to Tantor Audio for an ALC.
This was a combination of three different stories three different books and each one was very intriguing and good they all were like to do with the same place and the same type of thing but each one was its own individual mystery I did enjoy the book it was well written and well organized and I would recommend it for anyone who likes Mysteries and I would read it again
This is a wonderful collection of St. Patrick’s Day themed cozy mysteries. If you are new to any of the featured authors, this book is a fun way to sample their work for future reads. I found two new authors to check out!
This was a fun read and I enjoyed all 3 stories. I did read books 1 & 2 by Carlene O'Connor before reading this ARC and I am glad I did as I would have been lost in the 1st short story. I love that Danny and Tara got together! I can't wait to see what shenanigans Tara gets up to in the next installment of this series!

I love Carlene O'Connor's writing and the Home to Ireland Mystery series and I am hopeful that a full story in this series is forthcoming.
I absolutely love the titles of Peggy Ehrhart's Knit & Nibble series, they always make me giggle. I wish that Peggy was a little less descriptive with her story telling; I don't need to know how Bettina takes her coffee and other small details.
This was the third story I have read in the Mrs. Claus series and the stories are whimsical and enchanting. I love that April comes from a normal city, fell in love with Santa, and moved to the North Pole. The elves are interesting and the different factions are representative of the way we treat each other.
Callie Beaulieu did a great job narrating these short stories. I honestly thought there were multiple narrators until I looked at the NetGalley widget when I was ready to write the review. I will definitely look for books narrated by Callie in the future.
The first one I thought was cute and I liked most of the characters. I was also surprised by the reveal.
The second story I couldn't get into. I think it suffered from being too similar to the first one. Since I have an ARC/ALC, the chapters/sections aren't labeled making me unable to skip through and get to the third installment.
The irish accents really made the first story! Thanks netgalley for my ALC.
Thank you NetGalley and publisher for this audio!
I went in to this blind so I had no idea this was a set of short novellas all taking place on St. Patrick’s Day. I enjoyed each and every novella! Great mysteries.
I hadn't realized when I requested Irish Milkshake Murder that this was a set of novellas. Each of the three stories involves St. Patrick's day, an Irish milkshake and murder. I was just starting to see the characters in the first story start to be fleshed out and thought it would now be gaining steam, when the confession was made and the story abruptly concluded. It felt more like the early framework of a story that was yet to be developed.
It is for this reason I tend not to read novellas. It feels a bit too much like a an episode of "Murder She Wrote" tied up neatly within the hour allotted. Sadly, I have to say "it's not you, it's me" to the authors. This does not mean other will not enjoy this, it was just not my cup of tea.
My thanks to NetGalley and Kensington Cozies for the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
