I received an ARC of this book from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.
I LOVED this book! I’m such a fan of Christina Lauren and this is my favorite yet! This actually had a bit of a Colleen Hoover feel in the best possible way - but also still uniquely Christina Lauren.
I quickly cared about these characters and appreciated how much we got to really know and understand the depth of their internal struggles. There was plenty of steam but also so much heart. Get your hands on this when it becomes available - you will not be disappointed!
The best Christina Lauren book I have read since "Love and Other Words" (which is also one of my favorite books of all time)! I loved these characters so much and their chemistry was was the perfect amount of otherworldly and human.
In college, Anna and West decide to become legally married in order to get low income housing. Once West graduates, they go their separate ways, never to see each other again. Until...
Anna is now a struggling artist who recently lost her job, living paycheck to paycheck when her not-so-ex-husband, who is the heir to a large luxury grocery chain, Weston Foods, comes to her with a proposition: pretend to be married for two weeks on his parents' private island. How hard can it be?
Living in close quarters with her alluring "husband" proves to light a fire that neither Anne nor West can extinguish the more they explore this gorgeous corner of paradise and they begin to wonder: what will happen when their time is up?
A swoon-worthy romance as well as an exploration into family dynamics and the value of love.
One of my favorite romances I've read all year and I can't wait for its moment to shine when it hits shelves this May!
Fans of The Unhoneymoomers and True Love Experiment will devour the newest Christina Lauren piece just in time for summer!
Anna and Liam have their work cut out for them. After getting married in college for convenience, the two haven’t seen each other since their “divorce” 3 years prior, but SURPRISE!!! Anna didn’t read the fine print and didn’t realize that her husband was an heir to a grocery chain and can’t access his inheritance until he’s been married for 5 years. They must keep up the ruse at Liam’s sister’s wedding, or he will lose his trust fund.
What to expect:
✅fake dating
✅marriage of convenience
✅”pretty woman” trope
✅pop culture references
✅opposites attract
✅dysfunctional family
✅dual POV
✅destination wedding (summer vibes)
✅spice! 🌶️🌶️
The duo Christina Lauren made me a believer in the opposites attract trope. Anna is a quirky artist who speaks her mind & Liam is a Stanford professor who likes order. It was incredibly entertaining to watch their relationship transition from the surface to something deeper. There’s wit, banter, toxic family drama, and lots of spice! This is a perfect beachy read!
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Just like almost any book with the fake dating trope, the premise of this book was pretty absurd. Yet if you can put all of that aside, it is an absolute delight! I immediately loved the character of Anna. She was someone I could imagine being friends with and I really enjoyed a lot of her jokes- I found myself laughing out loud several times while reading. I really enjoyed the pop culture references- they were super witty and made the book fun to read.
I also truly love a book set on a tropical island and this one pulled out all the stops. It was a really fun setting and was nice to read about somewhere warm while in Oregon in winter. It also had a lot of rich people behaving badly which is always fun.
This is a top notch Christina Lauren! If you have like their other books you will also enjoy this one.
Thank you netgalley for the arc in exchange for my honest review
Loved this! The perfect fake dating/marriage book. Great backstories with some depth with good spicy angst buildup. Liam's family were truly dysfunctional. A definite read for fans of Succession.
This book was completely swoonworthy, and I could not put it down! Filled with tension, angst, and incredible banter— this is signature Christina Lauren, and fans of the duo are going to love this one. I seriously kicked my feet, and laughed out loud so many times, and I was sad when it was over. And I wasn’t convinced anything could top my love for the True Love Experiment. This is the perfect beach read!
The concept is a little bit out there, but so fun if you can keep an open mind. The scenery and setting are so fun, and this book is giving White Lotus meets Succession. There’s a marriage of convenience between Liam, an heir to a grocery chain and Anna, a fine arts student who needs subsidized family housing at UCLA. She thought she signed divorce papers, but three years later Liam shows up and quickly realizes that Anna never read the agreement, and they’re still married— and he needs her to accompany him to his youngest sister’s wedding in Southeast Asia.
As you can imagine, there are some intense family dynamics in this Billionaire family, and a gross display of wealth and privilege. Anna and Liam come from different worlds, but it’s clear they have a lot more in common than they think.
Thanks to Netgalley and Gallery Books the ARC!!
This was a fun escapist read - I loved the island setting and seeing the lives of the rich and famous! Something I appreciate about all of Christina Lauren's books is the realistic dialogue and the fact that people actually communicate and talk to each other in a realistic and/or aspirational way (it's the open honest way I wish more people would communicate!!.
I was a bit skeptical going into this that it would be too similar to The Unhoneymooners since it's a book based in "paradise." No, this book is the complete opposite. When they say paradise, they mean actual hell on earth disguised by beautiful blue waters and riches. When Anna agrees to go to a private island in Indonesia for Liam's sister's wedding (a man whom she has not seen in 3 years and knows nothing about other than that they married for different benefits), she's thrown into the world of the Westons, aka a horribly toxic (but incredibly rich!) family that she's unfamiliar with.
I loved how messy this book is (in terms of family dynamics), how so many of the characters are just kind of insane but also hilarious. But nothing beats the two main characters, Anna and Liam. They're complete opposites, but they were so adorable!
As with almost every Christina Lauren book I've read, this story had me laughing out loud multiple times. Such a fun read, especially for the summertime.
Christina Lauren does romance like no one else. Loved this book and these characters. The perfect slow burn relationship. These two had so much chemistry and it made this so fun
YAAAAASSSS! This book is just Christina Lauren at their best. Fun, flirty, steamy and engaging with really well-rounded complex characters you can fall in love with. It reminds me of "The Unhoneymooners," which is one of my favorite CL books of all time. I completely loved Anna and West, I found their unlikely pairing to be so ridiculously fun, and the way they navigated West's crazy family to be completely enthralling. This is going to be THE summer read - thank you so much to Net Galley and Simon and Schuster for the advanced reader copy in exchange for my honest review. Honestly, it's the best book I've read in a long time!
Christina Lauren strikes again! I adored this book!!! It was so cute and I was hooked from the start. I enjoyed the slow burn and then explosion. I'll never think of late night pizza the same. Can't recommend enough!
Thank you Net Galley and Simon and Schuster for giving me a chance to read this book in exchange for an honest review. ☺️📖
Let me start by saying, I love Christina Lauren books. This one doesn't miss. This book, like the others, will grip you by your shirt and make you feel all the emotions. The two main characters are polar opposites, financially and just in general. She's not "sunshine" exactly, but she brightens his life and I really enjoyed getting to read it as the book went on. Maybe I just really like romcoms, but I was giddy while reading this book.
"The Paradise Problem" was epic in so many ways. I absolutely adored both West and Anna. Their situation and family dynamic could not have been better. I stayed up way past my bed time reading this book because I had to know what happened.
This book would be perfect for a summer vacation because you could dive in and be taken away. However, the main tropical setting of the book is also perfect for a cold day when you just need to get out of your house in some way.
I want all of my friends to read this book and love it as much as I do. I also think that I might need a sequel because there is more family drama to be had!!
Definitely a Christina Lauren Classic and I loved every second of it! Anna was such a relatable lead and it was such a fun ride throughout the entire read!
I really enjoyed this book! Christina Lauren has a great way of writing books that are quite simply just fun to read. I thought the dichotomy between the two romantic interests was charming. This book definitely gave the same vibes as "Crazy Rich Asians." - going to halfway across the world to deal with ridiculous wealth.
Like all other Christina Lauren books I’ve read, I really enjoyed it! Anna and West are a great couple to root for and their story is both entertaining and enjoyable. Anna is the type of person I’d love as a friend, or to have at a dinner party!
Thank you Netgalley for the digital ARC.
I had to keep reading this book because I needed to find out how long this charade would go on.This started out as a real marriage on paper but an actress and an actor who played their parts until their love for each other could no longer be hidden. Great read.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book! Receiving an advanced copy was a delightful surprise. I believe both existing fans and newcomers will find it equally enjoyable.
Christina and Lauren are the queens of romantic comedies. The Paradise Problem is gold standard. Anna is an artist, living paycheck to paycheck, and trying to keep up with her dad's medical bills. Liam comes from an extremely wealthy family and destined to be the next CEO of his family's grocery store empire. They married five years ago to get a deal on family housing at their university. Present day, Anna finds out they are in fact still married and Liam needs her to come, as his wife, to his sister's wedding on an all inclusive private island. The fake marriage ensues, there is an extravagance of wealth, some very real feelings develop, and loads of family drama. Christina Lauren have done it again.
It had a fun premise and was a solid read. It was as though the authors tried to channel Kevin Kwan vibes and it worked for the most part. The outlandish location and wacky characters entertained us as we watched Anna and Liam's connection grow. The only thing that bothered me was how cliche Anna's character was portrayed in the beginning. She's artsy and chaotic and the initial meeting with Liam/West felt disconnected from the Anna we see throughout the book. After that slow start, it got better with some really enjoyable moments throughout.
3.5 stars rounded up.
