I love a good marriage of convenience, and it’s always interesting to see how contemporary authors manage to contrive one. In this case it’s an effort to claim an inheritance that requires buttoned up professor Liam to marry artist Anna. Shades of Crazy Rich Asians, but with more entitled white people. Anna and Liam are a well balanced match and their chemistry burns through the book.
Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher, and the author for the ARC to review. All opinions are my own.
CUTE! A fake dating/marriage trope masterpiece. Christina Lauren does it again, ladies and gents.
I was lucky to receive an arc of “paradise problems” and really enjoyed it. Anna had me laughing, Liam had me swooning, and the entire Weston family had me wanting to pull my hair out. This story was simply adorable and a little steamy - who doesn’t love that?

This is the best RomCom of 2024. The laughs in which I laughed, the tears that I teared, the smiles that I smiled, UNMATCHED. This is my new favorite from Christina Lauren, and I think it’ll become yours too!
West & Anna were married for…shall we say…less than genuine reasons when they were in college. Anna believed they’d been divorced since, but when West shows up at her door asking his wife for a favor, she realizes she was wrong.
Mark your calendars, you’ll want to run to the bookstore on pub day. I would 1000% recommend this read, and I’ll be gushing about it for the rest of the year.
Thank you to the publisher for the gifted (free) ARC!
CHRISTINA LAUREN DOES IT AGAIN. I was hooked from the start and I knew I would be because I love this Author duo and their books. I cannot wait for this book to be published so that I can share it with my patrons at the library!
The sexual tension in this book is real! I truly enjoyed reading about Liam and Anna as they slowly fall in love while navigating their past traumas, feelings for eachother, and Liam's absolutely horrible family. I seriously could not put this book down from the moment I started reading! Christina Lauren knows how to write a suspenseful romance where you are deeply connected to the main characters. This is definitely one I would recommend to others.
My first true Christina Lauren book (besides The Exception to the Rule short story) & I now totally understand why they’re such a dynamic duo!
The beginning felt like such a hot funny mess that I knew I was in for a rollercoaster of a ride!
I loved Anna’s character, she was SO unhinged, quirky, funny & vulnerable - Liam caught my heart & I was rooting for them from the start
The banter had me laughing out loud, the family dynamic/drama I was all here for & the chemistry between Anna & Liam was so genuine & adorable that it all worked SO well
The setting was beautifully described & it truly felt like I was in paradise. I will not be surprised if this one becomes a beach read fave 🌺
I will say, that I am more of a closed-door romance girlie (but can respect a few scenes here & there) but this one was a few scenes too spicy 😅 which took away from the story at times (in my opinion) - so to all my spice loving girlies, you’ll love this one
Overall, I had such a fun time reading & can’t wait to continue reading more of their books! 4-4.5 stars from me!
I loved this book SO much!! The fake dating trope was so well done and I loved every second of it. I was kicking my feet & giddy with Anna & Liam.
Christina Lauren does it again! I settled down to read another lovely romance and then ended up weeping because of the deepness of the story. Fake dating/marriage is one of my favorites so I knew I would love this one. But the family plot was really compelling. The dad is such a piece of work. I really loved the relationship between Anna and Liam.
I ADORED this new novel by Christina Lauren! The main characters were layered, the problems realistic, and the laughter uproarious! I found myself giggling out loud so many times. I love a fake marriage trope, and this one did not disappoint! I rooted for Liam and Anna the whole way, and I loved that I didn't know exactly how the conflict would resolve. It *might* be my favorite CLo book to date! I can't wait to read it again this summer when I'm on the beach!
If you're looking for a quick, easy read for spring/summer this is the perfect one! Anna is a quirky artist struggling to pay her bills while taking care of her father, and Liam is son to a rich, controlling father (probably an understatment) trying to find his own way. They both meet in college and enter a marriage of convenience. 4ish years later Liam needs Anna's help to be his wedding date and sell his family on the fact that they are in a loving marriage, then all the family drama insues.
Overall this book was super cute and quick read. I enjoyed the characters. Anna is quick and witty with no filter, and Liam is more reserved but caring and kind. They were a great match and made for an entertaining read! This book contains a lot of pop culture references that might not suit all readers, but overall I really enjoyed it. I found myself truly invested in the story and fell in love with these characters. Would recommend to any romcom lovers!
THE PARADISE PROBLEM is a fantastic, hilarious literary romp. It has a lot of the joy and humor I felt in THE HONEYMOONERS with some of the deeper, serious undertones in LOVE AND OTHER WORDS. I adore the two MCs: Anna and Liam are doing the best in the best way they know. A marriage of convenience that quickly transforms into more, Anna and Liam discover so much about themselves and each other. I laughed out loud several times, but also got so nervous when THINGS occurred. (An audible gasp definitely happened.) This is Christina Lauren at their best - that is for sure.
This book was absolutely darling! I am a huge fan of The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren. This story had the same playful energy, but with even better character development. I thought the premise was unique. I loved the Weston family dynamics and I found the monetary conflicts intriguing. Truly all the best parts of a rom com! The only reason I did not give this book five stars was because of the last 20% of the book. I struggle to stay invested during a third act break up, and it felt like the resolution dragged a bit. That being said, I still devoured this book in less than 24 hours and will be recommending it to my bookish friends & fellow romance fiends.
Anna Green and Liam “West” Weston get married in college to take advantage of cheap family housing. After two years, they go their separate ways, but three years later Liam needs Anna to play the loving wife to convince his family that he’s still happily married at his sister’s wedding on a private island.
Christina Lauren never disappoint. Anna and Liam have wonderful chemistry and swoon-worthy moments. I loved Anna’s character and was rooting for her throughout. Blaire was definitely my favorite side character, and I enjoyed her frequent comic relief.
I appreciated the extended epilogue because there were quite a few loose ends that needed wrapping up, but the pacing would have been thrown off if they were answered within the story itself.
This is the story of Anna and Liam who married five years ago to get subsidized housing. Anna thought they were divorced until Liam shows up, saying they are still legally married and he needs Anna to go with him to his sister's lavish wedding on a private tropical island.
I loved the tropical island setting. It was vividly described and I felt like I was there. I also loved Anna's character. Even though she was putting on an act for Liam's family, she still stayed true to herself at times. The banter between Liam and Anna was great! Many times I laughed out loud at some of the dialogue.
I will say that though I don't mind sex scenes I thought there were a few too many.
I loved the ending! It was a bit of a surprise! I wasn't sure what was going to happen!
Over all CL has once again delivered an entertaining book that will allow you to escape to a tropical island! Highly recommend.
Thanks to NetGalley for an ARC of this book.
Absolutely loved this book from start to finish!! Loved Anna and Liam’s relationship and enjoyed the whole storyline!
The premise of this book is ridiculous, and I mean that in the best possible way. The idea that Anna and Liam married for affordable university housing….and then years later Anna discovers that they are still married and Liam needs her to attend a family wedding with him? That is when I knew I would be in for a wild ride, and I was 100% correct. This book is centered around the secrets, lies, and deception of a very wealthy and dysfunctional family. They spend over a week on a private island in Indonesia—a setting that was described wonderfully, giving me White Lotus vibes even before Anna mentioned the same—and the proximity and endless pre-wedding events give them plenty of time to antagonize each other. Oh, and while all that is going on, Anna and Liam are getting to know each other and the heat is building. This book is sweet and warm and extremely funny; Anna is a riot and I loved how she stayed true to herself even while wearing clothes that cost more than her rent. She has a few lines that are truly laugh out loud amazing. However, it is not just a fun and fluffy story, and the end of the book reveals the complexities of Liam’s life and his relationship with Anna. I loved every word. Thanks to the authors, publisher, and NetGalley for the opportunity to review this fabulous book.
My official review: I am sad I will never get to read this book for the first time again.
Tropes (which are my freaking favorite)
One Bed (oh nooo)
Fake Marriage (bummmer)
Millionaire/Billionaire (omfg yes)
Tropical Destination (sun, beach, books)
Family Feud (who doesn't have family issues?)
"The Paradise Problem" by Christina Lauren gets my highest acclaim with a 5-star rating and a resounding "chef's kiss" endorsement! As an avid fan of Christina Lauren's work, diving into another tropical, fake marriage escapade was an absolute delight. I was practically willing to trade a limb for an ARC, though thankfully, that extreme wasn't necessary. Huge thanks to Gallery for the ARC!
Anna is an absolute gem of a character. Her wild, carefree spirit and indifference to the world of the rich and famous instantly won me over. And Liam? Well, let's just say he's every bit as sexy as you'd expect. The drama, the fake romance, the indulgence—it's all there, wrapped up in the irresistible allure of the millionaire/billionaire trope. Christina Lauren truly works her magic once again, weaving a tale that kept me hooked from start to finish.
In "The Paradise Problem," Anna and Liam's journey is a rollercoaster of emotions, filled with humor, heart, and plenty of steamy moments. Christina Lauren effortlessly captures the essence of their relationship, delivering a story that's equal parts entertaining and heartfelt. I adore every piece of it!
Fake dating or should I say fake marriage. Anna and Liam married in college to secure housing, seems simple enough. Until Liam’s rich family demands he brings his wife of four years to his sisters destination wedding on a private island.
I devoured this book. Rich dynamics. Family issues. Fake dating/marriage. One bed. This book had the usual Christina Lauren charm.
Christina Lauren always saves the day when I'm in a rut, and this was no exception. I loved Anna and West and hope we might see more side characters in the future.
What a great read! I Loved it until the end, then it ended a little abrubtly. which there were some more details. it felt rushed.
