Thank you Bookouture and NetGalley for an EXCELLENT early copy of The Baby Monitor. This was definitely HEARTPOUNDING!! I felt Miriam’s frustration every time, it was so consuming. I Never knew who was speaking the truth, this totally got me, the ending was totally NOT what I expected. This book will stay with me for a long time, I will definitely be telling my friends about it. LOVED, LOVED, LOVED IT!!!!! Super Great Book.
A brilliant storyline for me, loved every page, had me on the edge of my seat throughout with a brilliant ending.
Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for this ARC which I have no hesitation in recommending.
Okay, this was an unexpected delightful read full of twists that I didn't see coming. I haven't read this Author before but definately will read more of her books. This was the perfect book to binge. Fast and propulsive.
This was such a great story, but at the same time a creepy one. I am glad I used an old fashioned baby monitor when my son was born, because I would not have wanted to deal with this kind of situations. I know the modern ones have a lot more advantages, but there is that danger lurking too. I most certainly don't want to invite too many creeps into my home, but I guess it's something that is hard to avoid.
I found it difficult at first to determine who was the villain for me in this story, but little by little I started to point my finger in a certain direction. Was I right though or did the author keep a joker up her sleeve?
I could not blame Mim for feeling the way she felt. After all, I guess I would start thinking I went crazy and paranoid as well.
When you feel utterly alone, because everybody you trusted seems to abandon you, it's time to make it all go away.
I loved this book. The characters are great, the suspense is wonderful and the confusion is amazing. I secretly hope there is a sequel, because I feel like the story is not finished yet. 5 stars
Thank you
I'm closing my baby daughter's bedroom door after putting her to bed and saying I love her one last time, when I hear the baby monitor crackle into life. The voice sends shockwaves to me. "Your mother doesn't love you." My husband says it's just exhaustion, and I'm hearing things. But he has no idea what that voice is doing to Olivia. He doesn't see the look in his daughter's eyes as she pushes me away and says, "I want my other mother," Then Olivia plunges down the stairs screaming. In my worst nightmares, I never imagined I could come so close to losing my child.
Miriam has just given birth to her second child, Samuel. Her husband, Jeremy, is worried that she will experience the same thing that she had after she has their daughter. Olivia, postpartum psychosis. Miriam had thought that Olivia would be better off without her, Jeremy she will be mentally stable enough to stay at home with the kids.
This story comes with lots of twists and surprises. A mysterious voice is heard on the baby monitor. Olivia becomes more distant from her mother, and an incident leaves a child in hospital. There's also some manipulation and deceit, This is a well-written and gripping story.
I would like to thank #NetGalley #Bookouture and the author #RosieWalker for my ARC of #TheBabyMonitor in exchange for an honest review.
3 stars. Middle of the road book. The Baby Monitor was a very well executed book with lots of twists and surprises. I enjoyed the author's writing style. I enjoyed the twists and the feeling of being able to understand Miriam, new new mother. Yes, with a newborn, we are sleep deprived, tired, we forget things, and the author made this flow smoothly to show reality.
Miriam is married to Jeremy, the love of her life. They have a 5 year old daughter, Liv. They just came home with baby Samuel. Liv is not happy about the new baby. But why? Turns out they have a wifi baby monitor which is talking to Liv, telling her lies about her mother. Miriams husband gets a promotion which means he is away from home frequently. He insists she leaves on the baby monitor so he can check on Miriam and the children. After Miriam had Liv, she had some post partum psychosis and he believes everything Miriam is telling him about Liv and the baby monitor are signs that her psychosis is returning. No one will listen to her or take her seriously.
I just have to jump in here about their positive parenting style, where nothing Liv does is wrong. Everything she does has a positive outcome. No time outs, just time ins being cuddled. No consequences. This isn't part of the book, but how can this child get ready to face the world when she is always right. Liv's outrageous behavior continues with no consequences. This is where my stars for this book get taken away. As a mother, we all will protect our children before anyone else. That baby monitor would have been ripped out of the wall so fast, Jeremy's head would have spun. This is where Miriam becomes weak to me. She knows she's right, but still leaves that thing there to implant thoughts in her child's head.
Anyway, there are lots of twists. Even in the epilogue which is very very good. A very well done book. Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC. I greatly appreciate it. I highly recommend this book.
What a ride!
Walker masterfully crafts a narrative filled with suspense and psychological intrigue. The protagonist, a devoted mother, faces an unimaginable nightmare when she begins to question the safety of her own home and the trustworthiness of those closest to her. The plot thickens as her daughter becomes distant and a mysterious voice continues to haunt them, culminating in a heart-stopping incident that leaves her child hospitalized.
What makes "The Baby Monitor" stand out is its exploration of maternal instinct against a backdrop of deceit and manipulation. Walker delves deep into the psyche of a woman who is battling not just external threats, but also the demons of her past and the skepticism of her own husband. The tension is palpable as she begins to unravel the mystery, revealing the disturbing reality of someone close trying to sabotage her life.
The narrative is a roller coaster of emotions, keeping readers on the edge of their seats as they navigate the twists and turns of the story.
This is more than just a thriller; it's a profound exploration of a mother's unconditional love and her unyielding determination to protect her child at all costs. Rosie Walker has crafted a novel that is both terrifying and deeply moving, making it a must-read for anyone who loves a story that stays with them long after the last page is turned.
What a suspenseful read! It really kept me hooked and the twists and turns kept my attention like no other, definitely recommended.
Holy Cow what a ride!!! Twists and turns and just a great book!
This book is full of so many turns and keeps you up way past your bedtime! I will read more from this author.
Great writing and great way to keep you engaged.
Thanks NetGalley foe letting me read and review
This was one of those books that once you start you can not put it down you need to know it is all going to turn out. It was such a suspenseful read I couldn’t guess who the culprit was or if there was one. I loved how unreliable the narrator was it had you on edge all the way through.
Miriam a mother of a five year old daughter, Olivia, and a new born son,Samuel. When she arrives home from hospital she hears the wireless baby monitor in Olivia's room tell Olivia that her mother does not love her. No body believes her. she then is convinced her husband is watching her through the camera to find evidence she is an unfit mother after what happened after Olivia’s birth everyone is thinking she is heading for another breakdown but Miriam is convinced she is being watched and setup. This was such a gripping emotional read. Which I can’t recommend enough thanks to netgallery and the publisher for my advanced copy.
Miriam has a five-year-old daughter named Liv and has recently given birth to baby Samuel. She is married to the love of her life Jeremy who is constant dependable and steady but he has recently started worrying about his wife. After giving birth to baby live she had a mental and emotional setback and so with the birth of their second child he is watchful. They even have a baby monitor that he could remotely check in with while away at work. When Miriam tells him that someone is telling little live negative things about her through the baby monitor he really starts to worry she’s having another breakdown. When their little girl starts acting out it all becomes a little too much for Miriam. This is why she had to go in the backyard to take a breather from both of the children to get her thoughts together but when Jeremy finds out about it he calls an intervention with her mom and good friends Jack Nicole and Zayn to convince Miriam to go to a wellness resort for rest. Her stay at the spa clinic it’s far from restful and Will change how she thinks of her husband Jeremy but is it all true? Having read a true crime story out of Germany involving a baby monitor I really couldn’t wait to get into the story even though it was so good with mini twist interns I did fine the end a bit confusing. I mean how could Miriam and this person know each other for so long and she not know said persons godmother? Not only that but what is up in with that overloading of positivity? I would think raising your child in an unrealistic atmosphere would do more harm than good I mean I get it the whole positive reinforcement making your home age appropriate But when raising children your responsibility is to equip them to live in the world with others. However when everything your child does good or bad you have a positive happy reaction I don’t think that is setting them up for real life because when they are rude or ugly others are going to get angry or hurt when your child will not be prepared for that but I am not a child psychologist and that is not what the book was about this is just my opinion about a part of the book that really is an important to the story. I do want to say if you read this book read it completely and do not miss the epalogue because the twist do not stop coming until it’s over. Even though this wasn’t the best executed book I do think the author has great talent and would definitely read another book by her, because this one had great twist and I cannot wait to see what the author comes up with next. I want to thank Bookoucher and net galley for my free arc copy please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.
What an exciting rollercoaster ride through the lens of a baby monitor. It revolves around a strong woman who fights relentlessly for her daughter’s safety against unusual threats within their home.
The main character, despite being surrounded by fear, remains resolute. Her courage and determination are commendable. The narrative intertwines elements of anxiety and fear, yet beautifully captures the profound bond between a parent and child.
The plot is filled with unexpected twists that maintain a gripping pace till the end. It’s a fascinating blend of suspense, thrill, and a deep exploration of a mother’s love.
If you enjoy suspense-filled narratives with a strong element of parental love, this book is a must-read for you.
Thank you to Bookouture, and NetGalley for allowing me to read and review this book.
I really loved the writing style of this author. All throughout the book, I thought I knew who the villain was, but what a twist at the end ! Even if I would have loved a bit more about the why and how.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for access to this arc in exchange for my honest review.
I loved the suspense in The Baby Monitor! Miriam has a young child and an infant and believes she has heard a voice coming over the baby monitor that is not hers nor her husband's. Did she really hear this voice or is post-partum psychosis to blame?
Miriam has it rough, she has no idea who is for her or against her, who is her friend and who is her enemy? When Miriam's family begins to suffer because of someone's actions, she knows she has to find out who would hurt them, but is it real or all in her head?
Very suspenseful and a book you will stay up late to read!
Miriam is the frazzled mother of a five year old daughter, Olivia, and a new born son, Samuel.
She hears the wireless baby monitor in Olivia's room tell Olivia that her mother does not love her.
No body believes her. she is convinced her husband is watching her through the camera to find evidence she is an unfit mother.
Convinced that Miriam is paranoid, Jeremy convinces her to be admitted to a mental facility that is disguised as a Wellness Clinic.
I started this book twice, and read something else, then decided to pick it up again, and I am so glad that I did.
I definitely was not expecting the chills that ran down my spine at the constant camera surveillance. The twists made my head spin! When Kate made the Reddit discovery while Miriam was in the Clinic, I started suspecting absolutely everyone of trying to unhinge Miriam.
This book is so totally worth reading, you won't look at surveillance cameras or baby monitors the same way again!!
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read this book.
Miriam comes home with her second baby, after suffering from Post Party Psychosis the first time. All is well until she hears someone on the baby monitor telling her daughter Miriam doesn't love her.
I finished this book over the course of 24 hours, it really was engaging and sucked you in. It starts like its going to be a typical unreliable narrator with an abusive husband similar to The Girl on The Train, but it became obvious early on this wasn't the case.
I did guess the person responsible really early on due to clues in the story, but the final twist wasn't predictable, I feel it maybe wasn't really needed and raised more questions than it solved. I didn't feel the ending really wrapped everything up.
I still enjoyed reading it, and it was a great idea for a story, but maybe just a twist too many in the last few chapters!
This was one of those books I couldn’t stop thinking about when I wasn’t reading. Was desperate to get back to it! A lot about this one really spoke to me. It’s rare I love a book like this so much, but definitely a hit for me!
This book was AMAZING and full of twists! I honestly could not put it down and almost read it all in one go ( I would of if I had the time!). Miriam has just given birth to her second child, Samuel, and her husband Jeremy is worried that she will experience the same thing she did after she had their first child Olivia - postpartum psychosis. Miriam had a history of thinking that her child would be better off without her which led to Jeremy being overly cautious and a bit controlling over her, always wondering if she is mentally stable enough to stay alone with their kids while he travels away for work. Miriam starts to get paranoid after she hears a strange voice over their new baby monitor telling Liv that her “mummy doesn’t love her”. Liv begins acting out against her mother and her baby brother which was frightening. Miriam is then sent to a “wellness retreat” which is more like a mental institution but once she returns home her paranoia only increases as she discovers multiple hidden cameras around the house and electronics/devices being controlled remotely. This is where it gets interesting as she tries to unravel who is behind this - throw in Jeremy not believing her and gaslighting her and making her question what is real and what’s not. Their relationship starts to crumble as their trust in each other dissipates and accusations are thrown about. The ending was so unexpected and there was so much going on but in a good suspenseful way!
Highly recommend this to everyone who enjoys psychological thrillers!
Thank you to netgalley and Bookouture for a copy of an ARC! ✨
It was okay. Not your typical unreliable narrator with a gaslighting husband, but an adequate read. The person responsible is pretty obvious, although the last twist was a surprise.
I felt Miriam does some questionable things and her husband is clueless.
What a book! I loved that it was more than a thriller, it also had so many relatable elements about parenthood, relationships and trust. It's well written and just whbe you think you know what's happening, it all switches up. It's constantly moving forward and the writing style flows so perfectly that you just get sucked in and can't put it down til thst very last page!
