A child murder which happened years ago is the backdrop for this psychological thriller. Very few of the characters are who they say they are and there are lots of twists and turns throughout the book. I was gripped throughout and found it hard to put down. I was a little disappointed by the ending though as it felt weak compared to the rest of the story.
I received a free copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
The girl on the news is a really clever book! I did sometimes get the characters mixed up but that wasn't often. The story was told really well and the ending absolutely did the book justice.
A very interesting story. There are lots of twists and turns and although I did get a bit confused about who the characters were, it didn’t take away from the story. It had an ending that I didn’t see coming and was a good book to get into on my summer holidays.
Omg! This book had me obsessed until I got to the last page. It started out quite predictable but the twists as the book goes on were awesome! I flew through it in an afternoon because I just couldn't wait to find out what happened back then and what was going to happen now. Its well written with just such an easy writing style to get lost in. Absolutely amazing and not what you're expecting
The easy to read writing style is what made this one flow so quickly for me and what kept me going. The story was a bit sad and compelling telling the story of revenge, loss, and murder. There were a few inconsistencies, though. Towards the end, the protagonist is made aware of something that she already was told in the previous chapters. The ending, while throwing me for a loop, also needed a bit more of an explanation. Overall, this was enjoyable and quick, but okay read for me.
Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for this ARC.
An exhilarating and totally satisfying read. I read it breakneck fast, such a brutally good page-turner. Yet another fine outing from a master of thrillers. It hits the ground running and the pace never misses a beat. An absolutely gripping thriller that will keep you reading late into the night, unable to put the book down for a second.
Jessie has carefully created her life but it all falls apart in one moment- when someone claims that her daughter Mia is actually a missing child. Now her secrets, her life as Rosie, are coming out but who is doing this? No spoilers from me. Thank to Netgalley for the ARC. A twisty one.
It took some getting used to the writing style and the different POV, but I loved the story !!! I was for a few parts but I really really loved the ending !!!!
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for access to this Arc in exchange for my honest review.
Someone is posting lies on the internet, saying that Jessie's daughter Mia is missing. Who would do such a thing and why?
What I liked about this book: It starts off well with us finding out more about Jessie and who she really is, The story moves at a pace and you are left wanting to find out more.
What I didn't like about the book: As it when on, the suspense tailed off a little. I found the central premise unbelievable, that a child would be found guilty of murder on so little evidence and this affected my view of the whole book, I'm afraid. We needed much more evidence to give credibility to this. I also found the ending rather lacking both in credibility and in suspense.
Overall, an easy read but I don't think it will stay with me for long. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
Wow! How many twists can a single book contain?
I ended up binging the last. Three quarters in one sitting, as it was absolutely adddictive!
Well written, good plot, exceptional twists. 5*. HIGHLY recommend!
Why would someone post about your daughter being missing when that is not true at all? Is someone trying to play a joke, albeit a very bad one, on you or is it something a lot more sinister? Is it a warning or is it a promise? One thing is for sure, you won't let your little girl out of your sight.
Making mistakes is human and thus understandable. What I cannot comprehend is when people realise this, they just let it go and hope the truth will never come out. Why would it? Someone was thrown under the bus, so case closed, right. At least that is when there isn't anyone who is unhappy with the outcome and keeps on digging until they hit pay dirt.
It's a very sad story on the one hand, but it also shows that there is always hope and there are always people fighting your corner. It's a pity that some wrongdoings can never ever be righted again.
I utterly enjoyed this book and I felt for Rosie. What also caught my eye is that young people did not seem to be heard and the words of the adults were the only ones that were taken into consideration. It could all have been so different... 5 stars
Thank you
Rosie is jailed for the murder of her friend, Lauren. She is only 12 years old, and she keeps protesting her innocence.
She is given a new identity when she is released, and gets on with her life.
She gets married to her brother's friend, and they have a daughter, Mia. Suddenly, the social media sites are filled with Mia's photo, and claiming that she is missing.
Wow.
Can I say that again? Wow!
This book just grabbed my attention, and I could not stop reading. The twists. The revelation at the end.
It is one of those books that is dark, and very sad as well. My heart broke for Rosie losing her daughter, but just so happy that all was well in the end.
I felt rage and anger as well, at Rosie's mother. How can a mother treat her child that way?
I don't want to give any spoilers, but this book had me feeling all sorts of emotions.
I have to award 5/5 stars. It is an excellent book.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read this book.
GREAT BOOK! I powered through this one. As a child, Rosie McShane is locked up for the murder of her best friend. She maintains her innocence. While in custody, Sadie (who ends up being not who you would think), continues to interview her to get into her head. Meanwhile, Jessie is dealing with her husband being "sketchy," and false media posts that her daughter has been kidnapped. It doesn't take long for the author to reveal who the characters are and how they all intertwine. Great suspense. Great writing. Highly recommended!
